| Старець — улюбленому Гаєві, якого я дійсно люблю. | The elder unto Gaius the beloved, whom I love in truth. |

| Улюблений! Молюся, щоб ти був здоровий і досяг успіхів у всьому, як досягає душа твоя. | Beloved, I pray that in all things thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. |

| Бо я дуже зрадів, коли прийшли браття і засвідчили про твою вірність істині. | For I rejoiced greatly, when brethren came and bare witness unto thy truth, even as thou walkest in truth. |
|

|
| Для мене немає більшої радости, як чути, що мої діти ходять в істині. | Greater joy have I none than this, to hear of my children walking in truth. |
|

|
| Улюблений! Ти вірно чиниш у тому, що робиш для братів і для подорожніх. | Beloved, thou doest a faithful work in whatsoever thou doest toward the brethren and toward strangers; |

| Вони засвідчили перед церквою про твою любов. Ти добре зробиш, коли випровадиш їх, як належить перед Богом, | who bare witness to thy love before the church: whom thou wilt do well to set forward on their journey worthily of God: |

| бо вони заради імені Його пішли, не взявши нічого від язичників. | because that for the sake of the Name they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles. |

|
| Отже, ми повинні приймати таких, щоб стати співпрацівниками істини. | We therefore ought to receive such, that we may be fellow workers for the truth. |

|
| Я писав до церкви; але Діотреф, що любить бути першим у них, не приймає нас. | I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not. |

| Тому, коли прийду, то нагадаю про діла, які він чинить, обмовляючи нас лихими словами, i‚ не задовольняючись тим, сам не приймає братів і забороняє бажаючим та виганяє з церкви. | Therefore, if I come, I will bring to remembrance his works which he doeth, prating against us with wicked words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and them that would he forbiddeth and casteth them out of the church. |

| Улюблений! Не будь подібним до лихого, але до доброго: хто робить добро, той від Бога; а хто чинить зло, той не бачив Бога. | Beloved, imitate not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: he that doeth evil hath not seen God. |

| Про Димитрія засвідчено всіма і самою істиною, свідчимо також і ми, і ви знаєте, що свідчення наше правдиве. | Demetrius hath the witness of all men, and of the truth itself: yea, we also bear witness; and ye know that our witness is true. |

| Багато чого мав я написати; але не хочу писати до тебе чорнилами і тростиною, | I had many things to write, but I am unwilling to write them to thee with ink and pen: |

| а сподіваюся незабаром побачити тебе і поговорити устами до уст. | but I hope shortly to see thee, and we shall speak face to face. |

| Мир тобі. Вітають тебе друзi; вітай друзів поіменно. Амінь. | Peace be unto thee. The friends salute thee. Salute the friends by name. |
