Як написано у пророків: ось Я посилаю ангела Мого перед лицем Твоїм, який приготує путь Твою перед Тобою.	As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, Who shall prepare thy way before thee;

Глас вопіющого в пустелі: приготуйте путь Господеві, прямими зробіть стезі Йому.	The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ye ready the way of the Lord, Make his paths straight;

Явився Іоан, який хрестив у пустелі і проповідував хрещення на покаяння для відпущення гріхів.	John came baptizing in the wilderness, and preaching the baptism of repentance unto remission of sins.

І виходили до нього з усієї країни Юдейської і єрусалимляни; і всі хрестилися в річці Йордані від нього, сповідаючи гріхи свої.	And there went out unto him all the country of Judea, and they of Jerusalem; and they were all baptized of him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.

Іоан же носив одяг з верблюжого волоса і пояс шкіряний на стегнах своїх і їв акриди^* та дикий мед.	Now John was clothed with camel’s hair, and had a leathern girdle about his loins, and did eat locusts and wild honey.

І проповідував, кажучи: гряде Сильніший за мене слідом за мною, Якому я недостойний, нахилившись, розв’язати ремінь взуття Його.	And he preached, saying, There cometh after me he that is mightier than I, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose.

Я хрестив вас водою, а Він хреститиме вас Духом Святим.	I indeed baptized you in water; but he shall baptize you in the Holy Spirit.

І сталось у ті дні, прийшов Ісус із Назарета галилейського і хрестився від Іоана в Йордані.	And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in the Jordan.

І коли виходив з води, зараз же побачив Іоан небеса, що розкривалися, і Духа, Який, мов голуб, сходив на Нього.	And straightaway coming up from the water, he saw the heavens rent asunder, and the Spirit as a dove descending upon him:

І голос був з небес: Ти Син Мій Улюблений, в Якому Моє благовоління.	and a voice came out of the heavens, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Негайно після того Дух веде Його в пустелю.	And straightaway the Spirit driveth him forth into the wilderness.

І пробув Він там у пустелі сорок днів, спокушуваний сатаною, і був із звірами; і ангели служили Йому.	And he was there in the wilderness forty days tempted of Satan; and he was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him.

Після того ж, як виданий був Іоан, прийшов Ісус до Галилеї, проповідуючи Євангеліє Царства Божого	Now after John was delivered up, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,

і кажучи, що настав час і наблизилося Царство Боже: покайтеся і віруйте в Євангеліє.	and saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe in the gospel.

Проходячи ж біля моря Галилейського, побачив Симона і Андрія, брата Симонового, що закидали неводи в море, бо вони були рибалками.	And walking by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of the same Simon, casting a net in the sea; for they were fishers.

І сказав їм Ісус: ідіть за Мною, і Я зроблю, що ви будете ловцями людей.	And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.

І вони відразу ж, покинувши свої сіті, пішли за Ним.	And straightaway they left their nets, and followed him.

І, пройшовши звідтіля трохи, Він побачив Якова Зеведеєвого і Іоана, брата його, які також були у човні, лагодили сіті;	And going on a little further thence, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the boat mending the nets.

і зараз же покликав їх. І вони, залишивши батька свого Зеведея в човні з наймитами, пішли за Ним.	And straightaway he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and went after him.

І приходять до Капернаума; і незабаром у суботу увійшов Він у синагогу і навчав.	And they go into Capernaum; and straightaway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue and taught.

І дивувалися вченню Його; бо Він учив їх, як Такий, що має владу, а не як книжники.	And they were astonished at his teaching: for he taught them as having authority, and not as the scribes.

І був у синагозі їхній чоловік, який мав у собі духа нечистого, і закричав:	And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out,

облиш, що Тобі до нас, Ісусе Назарянине? Ти прийшов погубити нас! Знаю Тебе, хто Ти, — Святий Божий.	saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, Jesus thou Nazarene? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.

І заборонив йому Ісус, кажучи: замовкни і вийди з нього.	And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him.

І стряс його дух нечистий і, скрикнувши гучним голосом, вийшов з нього.	And the unclean spirit, tearing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him.

І вжахнулися всі так, що один одного питали: що це, що це за нове вчення, що Він владно і духам нечистим наказує, і вони слухаються Його?	And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What is this? what new teaching is this, that with authority he commandeth even the unclean spirits, and they obey him?

І враз розійшлися про Нього чутки по всій країні Галилейській.	And the report of him went out straightaway into all the region of Galilee round about.

Вийшовши невдовзі з синагоги, прийшли до господи Симона і Андрія, з Яковом та Іоаном.	And straightaway, when they were come out of the synagogue, they came into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.

Теща ж Симонова лежала в гарячці; і зразу сказали Йому про неї.	Now Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick of a fever; and straightaway they tell him of her:

І, підійшовши, Він підняв її, взявши її за руку; і гарячка зараз же залишила її, і вона почала слугувати їм.	and he came and took her by her hand, and raised her up; and straightaway the fever left her, and she ministered unto them.

Надвечір, коли заходило сонце, приносили до Нього всіх недужих і біснуватих.	And at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were sick, and them that were possessed with demons.

І все місто зібралося біля дверей.	And all the city was gathered together at the door.

І Він зцілив багатьох, що страждали всякими недугами; вигнав багатьох бісів, і не дозволяв бісам говорити, що вони знають, що Він Христос.	And he healed many that were sick with diverse diseases, and cast out many demons; and he suffered not the demons to speak, because they knew him.

А вранці, ще затемна, вставши, вийшов і пішов у безлюдне місце і там молився.	And in the morning, a great while before day, he rose up and went out, and departed into a desert place, and there prayed.

І поспішили за Ним Симон і ті, що були з Ним,	And Simon and they that were with him followed after him;

і, знайшовши Його, кажуть Йому: всі Тебе шукають.	and when they had found him, they say unto him, All are seeking thee.

Він говорить їм: ходімо в найближчі села та міста, щоб Мені і там проповідувати; бо Я для того прийшов.	And he saith unto them, Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also; for to this end came I forth.

І Він проповідував у синагогах їхніх по всій Галилеї і виганяв бісів.	And he was preaching in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and casting out demons.

Приходить до Нього прокажений і, благаючи Його та падаючи перед Ним на коліна, говорить Йому: якщо хочеш, можеш мене очистити.	And there cometh to him a leper, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

Ісус, змилосердившись над ним, простягнув руку, доторкнувся до нього і сказав йому: хочу, очисться.	And Jesus, being moved with compassion, stretched forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou made clean.

І як тільки сказав, зараз же зійшла з нього проказа, і він став чистим.	And when he had spoken, straightaway the leprosy departed from him, and he was made clean.

І, заборонивши йому, негайно відіслав його.	And he strictly charged him, and straightaway sent him out,

І сказав йому: гляди ж, нікому нічого не кажи, але піди покажись священикові і принеси за очищення твоє, що повелів Мойсей, — на свідчення їм.	and saith unto him, See thou say nothing to any man: but go show thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing the things which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.

А він, вийшовши, почав розголошувати і розповідати про подію, яка сталася, так що Ісус не міг уже явно ввійти до міста, але перебував зовні, в безлюдних місцях. І приходили до Нього звідусіль.	But he went out, and began to publish it much, and to spread abroad the matter, insomuch that Jesus could no more openly enter into a city, but was without in desert places: and they came to him from every quarter.
Глава 2	Chapter 2

Коли через кілька днів знову прийшов до Капернаума, пішла чутка, що Він у домі.	And he entered again into Capernaum after some days; and it was noised that he was in the house.

Зразу ж зібралося багато людей, так що вже не вміщалися біля дверей, і Він говорив їм слово.	And straightaway many were gathered together, so that there was no longer room for them, no, not even about the door: and he spake the word unto them.
3	3
І прийшли до Нього з розслабленим, якого несли четверо.	And they come, bringing unto him a man sick of the palsy, borne of four.

І, не маючи можливости наблизитись до Нього через народ, розкрили покрівлю дому, де Він був, і, розібравши її, спустили постіль, на якій лежав розслаблений.	And when they could not come nigh unto him for the crowd, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed whereon the sick of the palsy lay.

Ісус, побачивши віру їхню, говорить розслабленому: чадо, відпускаються тобі гріхи твої.	And Jesus seeing their faith saith unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins are forgiven thee.

Були там деякі з книжників, що сиділи і помишляли в серцях своїх:	But there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,

чому Цей так богохулить? Хто може прощати гріхи, крім одного Бога?	Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but one, even God?

Ісус, відразу зрозумівши духом Своїм, що вони так помишляють у собі, сказав їм: навіщо так помишляєте в серцях ваших?	And straightaway Jesus, perceiving in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts?

Що легше — сказати розслабленому: прощаються тобі гріхи? Чи сказати: встань, візьми постіль свою і ходи?	Which is easier, to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins are forgiven; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk?

Та щоб ви знали, що Син Людський має владу на землі відпускати гріхи, — говорить розслабленому:	But that ye may know that the Son of man hath authority on earth to forgive sins (he saith to the sick of the palsy),
11	11
тобі кажу: встань, візьми постіль твою та йди до дому твого.	I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go unto thy house.
12	12
Він зараз же встав і, взявши постіль, вийшов перед усіма, так що всі дивувались і прославляли Бога, кажучи: ніколи ще такого ми не бачили.	And straightaway he arose, and took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.

І вийшов Ісус знову до моря; і весь народ пішов до Нього, і учив їх.	And he went forth again by the seaside; and all the multitude resorted unto him, and he taught them.
14	14
Проходячи, побачив Він Левія Алфеєвого, що сидів на митниці, і сказав йому: йди за Мною. І той, вставши, пішов за Ним.	And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the place of toll, and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose and followed him.
15	15
І коли Ісус возлежав у господі його, возлежали з Ним і ученики Його і багато митарів та грішників; бо багато їх було, і вони йшли за Ним.	And it came to pass, as he was sitting at meat in his house, that many publicans and sinners sat down with Jesus and his disciples: for there were many, and they followed him.

Книжники й фарисеї, побачивши, що Він їсть з митарями і грішниками, говорили ученикам Його: як це Він їсть і п’є з митарями і грішниками?	And the scribes and the Pharisees, when they saw him eating with the publicans and sinners, said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners?

Почувши це, Ісус говорить їм: не здорові потребують лікаря, але хворі; Я прийшов покликати не праведників, а грішників до покаяння.	And when Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of a physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Учні Іоанові та фарисейські постили. Приходять до Нього і кажуть: чому учні Іоанові та фарисейські постять, а Твої ученики не постять?	And the disciples of John and those of the Pharisees were fasting: and they come and say unto him, Why do the disciples of John and those of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not?

І сказав їм Ісус: чи можуть постити гості весільні, коли з ними жених? Доки з ними жених, не можуть постити.	And Jesus said unto them, Can the sons of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them? as long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.
20	20
Прийдуть же дні, коли заберуть від них жениха, і тоді поститимуть у ті дні.	But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then will they fast in those days.
21	21
І ніхто не пришиває латки з нової тканини до старої одежі: інакше нове відірветься від старого, і ще гірша дірка буде.	And no man seweth a piece of undressed cloth on an old garment: else the new piece that filled it up taketh away from the old, and a worse rent is made.
22	22
І ніхто не вливає вина молодого в міхи старі: інакше молоде вино прорве міхи, і вино витече, і міхи пропадуть; але вино молоде треба вливати в міхи нові.	And no man putteth new wine into old wineskins; else the new wine doth burst the skins, and the wine is spilled, and the skins will perish: but new wine must be put into fresh wineskins.

І довелося Йому в суботу проходити через посіви, і ученики Його дорогою почали рвати колоски.	And it came to pass, that he was going on the sabbath day through the grainfields; and his disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears.

І фарисеї сказали Йому: дивись, що вони роблять у суботу, чого не слід робити.	And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful?

Він сказав їм: невже ви ніколи не читали, що зробив Давид, коли мав потребу, бо зголоднів сам і ті, що були з ним?	And he said unto them, Did ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was hungry, he, and they that were with him?

Як увійшов він у дім Божий за первосвященика Авиафара і їв хліби принесення, яких не повинен їсти ніхто, крім священиків, і дав тим, що були з ним?	How he entered into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the showbread, which it is not lawful to eat save for the priests, and gave also to them that were with him?

І сказав їм: субота для людини, а не людина для суботи;	And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath:

тому Син Людський є господар і суботи.	so that the Son of man is lord even of the sabbath.
Глава 3	Chapter 3

1	1
І знов увійшов до синагоги. І там був чоловік, який мав усохлу руку.	And he entered again into the synagogue; and there was a man there who had his hand withered.

І стежили за Ним, чи не зцілить його в суботу, щоб звинуватити Його.	And they watched him, whether he would heal him on the sabbath day; that they might accuse him.

Він же говорить чоловікові, котрий мав усохлу руку: стань посередині.	And he saith unto the man that had his hand withered, Stand forth.
4	4
А їм говорить: чи годиться в суботу добро робити, чи зло робити — душу спасти чи загубити? Вони ж мовчали.	And he saith unto them, Is it lawful on the sabbath day to do good, or to do harm? to save a life, or to kill? But they held their peace.

І, глянувши на них з гнівом, засмучений закам’янілістю сердець їхніх, каже чоловікові: простягни руку твою. Він простягнув, і стала рука його здорова, як друга.	And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved at the hardening of their heart, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he stretched it forth; and his hand was restored whole, as the other.

Фарисеї, вийшовши, зразу ж радилися з іродіанами проти Нього, як би погубити Його.	And the Pharisees went out, and straightaway with the Herodians took counsel against him, how they might destroy him.

Але Ісус з учениками Своїми відійшов до моря; і за Ним пішло багато народу з Галилеї, Юдеї,	And Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the sea: and a great multitude from Galilee followed him, and from Judea,

з Єрусалима, Ідумеї, з-за Йордану; та з Тира й Сидона, почувши, що Він робив, йшли до Нього у великій кількості.	and from Jerusalem, and from Idumea, and beyond the Jordan, and they about Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, when they heard what great things he did, came unto him.

І сказав ученикам Своїм, щоб приготували для Нього човен, через багатолюдність, аби не тіснилися до Нього.	And he spake to his disciples, that a little boat should wait on him because of the crowd, lest they should throng him:
10	10
Бо багатьох Він зцілив, тому ті, які мали рани, кидалися до Нього, щоб торкнутися Його.	for he had healed many; insomuch that as many as had plagues pressed upon him that they might touch him.
11	11
І духи нечисті, коли бачили Його, падали перед Ним і кричали: Ти Син Божий.	And the unclean spirits, whensoever they beheld him, fell down before him, and cried, saying, Thou art the Son of God.

Та Він суворо забороняв їм, щоб не робили Його відомим.	And he charged them much that they should not make him known.
13	13
Потім зійшов на гору і покликав до Себе, кого Сам хотів; і прийшли до Нього.	And he goeth up into the mountain, and calleth unto him whom he himself would; and they went unto him.

І обрав з них дванадцять, щоб були з Ним і щоб посилати їх на проповідь,	And he appointed twelve, that they might be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach,
15	15
і щоб вони мали владу зціляти від недуг і виганяти бісів.	and to have authority to heal diseases, and to cast out demons:

І поставив Симона, давши йому ім’я Петро,	and Simon he surnamed Peter;

Якова Зеведеєвого та Іоана, брата Якова, давши їм імення Воанергес, тобто «сини громові»,	and James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James; and them he surnamed Boanerges, which is, Sons of thunder:

Андрія, Филипа, Варфоломія, Матфея, Фому, Якова Алфеєвого, Фадея, Симона Кананіта	and Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Cananite,

та Іуду Іскаріотського, який і зрадив Його.	and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.
20	20
Приходять у дім; і знову збирається народ, так що їм неможливо було і хліба їсти.	And they come into a house. And a multitude cometh together again, so that they could not so much as eat bread.
21	21
І, почувши, ті, хто був у Нього, пішли взяти Його, бо говорили, що Він не при собі.	And when his friends heard it, they went out to lay hold on him: for they said, He is beside himself.
22	22
А книжники, які прийшли з Єрусалима, говорили, що Він має в Собі Вельзевула і що силою бісівського князя виганяє бісів.	And the scribes that came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebul, and, By the prince of demons casteth he out demons.
23	23
І, покликавши їх, говорив їм притчами: як може сатана виганяти сатану?	And he called them unto him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan?
24	24
Якщо царство розділиться само в собі, не може встояти царство те.	And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.
25	25
І якщо дім розділиться сам у собі, не може встояти дім той.	And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.
26	26
І якщо сатана повстав сам на себе і розділився, не може встояти, але прийшов кінець його.	And if Satan hath risen up against himself, and is divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
27	27
Ніхто, ввійшовши в дім сильного, не може пограбувати речей його, якщо раніш не зв’яже сильного, і тоді розграбує дім його.	No one can enter into the house of the strong man, and plunder his goods, except he first bind the strong man; and then he may plunder his house.

Істинно кажу вам: простяться синам людським усі гріхи та хули, якими б вони не хулили;	Verily I say unto you, All their sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme:

хто ж хулитиме Духа Святого, тому не буде прощення довіку, але підлягає він вічному осуду.	but whosoever shall blaspheme against the Holy Spirit hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal judgment:
30	30
Бо ж говорили: в Ньому нечистий дух.	because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.
31	31
Прийшли Мати і брати Його і, стоячи надворі, послали до Нього покликати Його.	There come then his brethren and his mother; and, standing without, they sent unto him, calling him.
32	32
Навколо Нього сидів народ. І сказали Йому: ось Мати Твоя і брати Твої і сестри Твої надворі, шукають Тебе.	And a multitude was sitting about him; and they said unto him, Behold, thy mother, and thy brethren, and thy sisters without seek for thee.

І відповів їм: хто мати Моя і брати Мої?	And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother or my brethren?
34	34
І, поглянувши довкола Себе на тих, що сиділи, сказав: ось мати Моя і брати Мої;	And looking round on them that sat round about him, he saith, Behold, my mother and my brethren!

бо хто творитиме волю Божу, той брат Мій, і сестра Моя, і мати Моя.	For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.
Глава 4	Chapter 4

І знову почав навчати біля моря; і зібралося до Нього багато народу, так що Він увійшов у човен і сидів на морі; а весь народ був біля моря на землі.	And again he began to teach by the seaside. And there was gathered unto him a great multitude, so that he entered into the boat, and sat in the sea; and all the multitude was by the sea on the land.

І багато вчив їх притчами, і в навчанні Своєму говорив їм:	And he taught them many things in parables, and said unto them in his teaching,

слухайте, ось вийшов сівач сіяти;	Hearken: Behold, the sower went forth to sow:

і, коли сіяв, трапилося, що одне зерно впало при дорозі, і налетіли птахи і видзьобали його.	and it came to pass, as he sowed, some seed fell by the wayside, and the birds came and devoured it.
5	5
Інше ж упало на кам’янисте місце, де небагато було землі; і скоро зійшло, бо земля була неглибока.	And other fell on the rocky ground, where it had not much earth; and straightaway it sprang up, because it had no deepness of earth:
6	6
Коли ж зійшло сонце, зів’яло і, не маючи коріння, засохло.	but when the sun was risen, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away.
7	7
Ще інше впало в терня; і виросло терня, і заглушило зерно, і воно не дало плоду.	And other fell among the thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit.
8	8
А інше впало на добру землю і дало плід, який зійшов і виріс; і вродило в тридцять, в шістдесят і в стократ.	And other fell into the good ground, and yielded fruit, growing up and increasing; and brought forth, thirtyfold, and sixtyfold, and a hundredfold.

І сказав їм: хто має вуха слухати, нехай слухає!	And he said, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

Коли ж залишився на самоті, то ті, що були з Ним разом з дванадцятьма, запитали Його про притчу.	And when he was alone, they that were about him with the twelve asked of him the parable.

І сказав їм: вам дано знати тайни Царства Божого, а тим, зовнішнім, усе буває в притчах,	And he said unto them, Unto you is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all things are done in parables:

так що вони своїми очима дивляться, і не бачать; своїми вухами чують, і не розуміють, та й не навернуться, щоб відпустились їм гріхи.	that seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest haply they should turn again, and their sins should be forgiven them.

І говорить їм: не розумієте цієї притчі? Як же вам зрозуміти всі притчі?	And he saith unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how shall ye know all the parables?

Сівач слово сіє.	The sower soweth the word.

Посіяне при дорозі означає тих, у яких сіється слово, але, як тільки почують слово, зараз же приходить сатана і забирає слово, посіяне в серцях їхніх.	And these are they by the wayside, where the word is sown; and when they have heard, straightaway cometh Satan, and taketh away the word which hath been sown in their hearts.

Так само і посіяне на камені означає тих, які, коли почують слово, зразу з радістю сприймають його,	And these in like manner are they that are sown upon the rocky places, who, when they have heard the word, straightaway receive it with joy;

але не мають у собі кореня і непостійні; а потім, коли настане скорбота або гоніння за слово, відразу спокушаються.	and they have no root in themselves, but endure for a while; then, when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, straightaway they stumble.

Посіяне між терням означає тих, що слухають слово,	And these are they that are sown among the thorns; such as hear the word,

але в яких турботи віку цього, спокуси багатством та інші пожадання, увійшовши в них, заглушують слово, і воно безплідним буває.	and the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.

А посіяне на добрій землі означає тих, що слухають слово і приймають, і приносять плід один у тридцять, другий в шістдесят, інший в стократ.	And these are they that were sown upon the good ground; such as hear the word, and accept it, and bear fruit, thirtyfold, and sixtyfold, and a hundredfold.

І сказав їм: чи для того приносять світильник, щоб поставити під посудину або під ліжко? Чи не для того, щоб поставити на свічнику?	And he said unto them, Is the lamp brought to be put under the bushel, or under the bed, and not to be put on the stand?

Нема нічого таємного, що не стало б явним, і нічого не буває захованого, що не виявилося б.	For there is not anything hidden, which shall not be manifested; neither was anything made secret, but that it should come to light.

Коли хто має вуха слухати, нехай слухає!	If any man hath ears to hear, let him hear.

І сказав їм: дотримуйтесь того, що чуєте: якою мірою міряєте, такою відмірено буде вам, тим, що слухають.	And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete it shall be measured unto you; and more shall be given unto you that hear.

Бо хто має, тому дасться; а хто не має, у того відніметься і те, що має.	For whoso hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken away even that which he hath.

І сказав: Царство Боже подібне до того, як коли чоловік кине насіння в землю;	And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed upon the earth;

і чи спить, чи встає вночі та вдень, а насіння сходить і росте, а як — не знає він.	and should sleep and rise night and day, and the seed should spring up and grow, he knoweth not how.

Земля бо сама з себе родить спочатку стебло, потім колос, далі повне зерно в колосі.	For the earth beareth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear.

Коли ж достигне плід, негайно посилає серп, бо настали жнива.	But when the fruit is ripe, straightaway he putteth forth the sickle, because the harvest is come.

І сказав: до чого уподібнимо Царство Боже? Або якою притчею зобразимо його?	And he said, Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God? or with what comparison shall we compare it?

Воно — мов зерно гірчичне, яке, коли сіється в землю, дрібніше за всяке насіння на землі.	It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown upon the earth, is less than all the seeds that are upon the earth,

А коли посіяне, сходить і стає більше від усякого зілля та дає таке велике гілля, що під тінню його можуть укриватися птахи небесні.	yet when it is sown, groweth up, and becometh greater than all the herbs, and putteth out great branches; so that the birds of the heaven can lodge under the shadow thereof.

І такими багатьма притчами проповідував їм слово, скільки вони могли слухати.	And with many such parables spake he the word unto them, as they were able to hear it;

Без притчі ж не говорив їм; а ученикам на самоті пояснював усе.	and without a parable spake he not unto them: but privately to his disciples he expounded all things.

І сказав їм увечері того ж дня: переправимось на той бік.	And on that day, when even was come, he saith unto them, Let us go over unto the other side.

І, відпустивши народ, узяли Його, як Він був у човні; і з Ним були інші човни.	And leaving the multitude, they take him with them, even as he was, in the boat. And other little boats also were with him.

І знялась велика буря; хвилі били в човен так, що він уже наповнювався водою.	And there ariseth a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the boat, insomuch that it was now filling.

А Він спав на кормі на підголівнику. Його розбудили і говорять Йому: Учителю, невже Тобі байдуже, що ми гинемо?	And he himself was in the stern, asleep on the cushion: and they awake him, and say unto him, Teacher, carest thou not that we perish?

І, вставши, Він заборонив вітрові і сказав морю: умовкни, перестань. І стих вітер, і настала велика тиша.	And he awoke, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

І сказав їм: чого ви такі боязкі? Чому не маєте віри?	And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?

І страх великий напав на них, і говорили між собою: Хто ж Цей, що і вітер, і море слухають Його?	And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
Глава 5	Chapter 5

1	1
І прийшли на другий берег моря, в країну Гадаринську.	And they came to the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes.
2	2
І коли вийшов Він з човна, зразу зустрів Його чоловік, який вийшов з гробів і мав духа нечистого;	And when he was come out of the boat, straightaway there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,
3	3
він жив у гробах, і ніхто не міг його зв’язати, навіть ланцюгами,	who had his dwelling in the tombs: and no man could bind him, no, not with a chain;
4	4
бо багато разів він був скований кайданами та ланцюгами, але розривав ланцюги і розбивав залізні кайдани, і ніхто не мав сили приборкати його.	because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been rent asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: and no man had strength to tame him.

Завжди, вночі та вдень, був він у гробах і в горах, кричав та бився об каміння.	And always, night and day, in the mountains and in the tombs, he was crying out, and cutting himself with stones.

Побачивши ж Ісуса здаля, прибіг і поклонився Йому.	But when he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and worshiped him;

І, скрикнувши гучним голосом, сказав: що Тобі до мене, Ісусе, Сину Бога Всевишнього? Заклинаю Тебе Богом, не муч мене!	and crying out with a loud voice, he said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the Most High God? I adjure thee by God, torment me not.

Бо Ісус сказав йому: вийди, душе нечистий, з цього чоловіка.	For he said unto him, Come forth, thou unclean spirit, out of the man.
9	9
І спитав його: як твоє ім’я? І він сказав у відповідь: легіон ім’я моє, бо багато нас.	And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion; for we are many.
10	10
І благав Його вельми, щоб не висилав їх геть з країни тієї.	And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.
11	11
Паслось же там біля гори велике стадо свиней.	Now there was there on the mountainside a great herd of swine feeding.
12	12
І благали Його всі біси, кажучи: пошли нас у свиней, щоб нам увійти в них.	And all the demons besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.
13	13
Ісус відразу повелів їм. І, вийшовши, духи нечисті увійшли в свиней; і кинулося стадо з кручі в море, а їх було близько двох тисяч; і потонули в морі.	And straightaway Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits came out, and entered into the swine: and the herd rushed down the steep into the sea (and they were about two thousand); and they were drowned in the sea.

Пастухи ж свиней побігли і розказали у місті і в селах. І жителі вийшли подивитись, що сталося.	And they that fed the swine fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. And they came out to see what it was that had come to pass.

Приходять до Ісуса і бачать, що біснуватий, в якому був легіон, сидить — і одягнений, і при здоровому розумі; і злякалися.	And they come to Jesus, and behold him that was possessed with demons sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind, even him that had the legion: and they were afraid.

Очевидці ж розказали їм про те, як це сталося з біснуватим, і про свиней.	And they that saw it declared unto them how it befell him that was possessed with demons, and concerning the swine.
17	17
І почали благати Його, щоб відійшов від меж їхніх.	And they began to beseech him to depart from their borders.
18	18
І коли Він увійшов у човен, колишній біснуватий просив Його, щоб бути з Ним.	And when he was entered into the boat, he that had been possessed with demons besought him that he might be with him.
19	19
Але Ісус не дозволив йому, а сказав: йди додому до своїх і розкажи їм, що створив з тобою Господь і як помилував тебе.	But Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go to thy house unto thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and how he had mercy on thee.

І пішов, і почав проповідувати у Десятиградді про те, що сотворив з ним Ісус; і всі дивувалися.	And he went his way, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men marveled.
21	21
Коли Ісус знову переправився в човні на той бік, зібралося до Нього багато народу; Він був біля моря.	And when Jesus had crossed over again in the boat unto the other side, a great multitude was gathered unto him; and he was by the sea.
22	22
І ось приходить один з начальників синагоги на ім’я Іаїр і, побачивши Його, падає до ніг Його	And behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and seeing him, he falleth at his feet,

і дуже благає Його, кажучи: дочка моя при смерті; прийди і поклади на неї руки, щоб вона видужала і залишилася жива.	and besought him much, saying, My little daughter is at the point of death: I pray thee, that thou come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be made whole; and she shall live.

Ісус пішов з ним. За Ним йшло багато народу, і тиснули на Нього.	And he went with him; and a great multitude followed him, and they thronged him.
25	25
Якась жінка, що хворіла на кровотечу дванадцять років,	And a certain woman, who had an issue of blood twelve years,

багато потерпіла від багатьох лікарів, і витратила все, що було в неї, і не дістала ніякого полегшення, але їй стало ще гірше, —	and had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,

почувши про Ісуса, підійшла ззаду в натовпі і доторкнулась до одягу Його,	having heard of Jesus, came in the crowd behind, and touched his garment.
28	28
бо говорила: якщо доторкнусь хоч до одежі Його, то видужаю.	For she said, If I touch but his garments, I shall be made whole.
29	29
І зразу припинилась у неї кровотеча; і вона відчула тілом, що зцілилася від недуги.	And straightaway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her plague.
30	30
І негайно Ісус відчув у Собі, що вийшла з Нього сила, звернувся до народу і сказав: хто доторкнувся до одежі Моєї?	And straightaway Jesus, perceiving in himself that the power proceeding from him had gone forth, turned him about in the crowd, and said, Who touched my garments?

Ученики сказали Йому: Ти бачиш, що натовп тисне на Тебе, і говориш: хто доторкнувся до Мене?	And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?

Але Він оглядався навкруги, щоб бачити ту, яка зробила це.	And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.

Жінка ж, знаючи, що з нею сталося, зі страхом і трепетом підійшла, впала перед Ним і сказала Йому всю правду.	But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what had been done to her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.

Він же сказав їй: дочко, віра твоя спасла тебе. Іди з миром і будь здорова від недуги твоєї.	And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.

Коли він ще говорив це, приходять від начальника синагоги і кажуть: дочка твоя померла; чого ще турбуєш Учителя?	While he yet spake, they come from the ruler of the synagogue’s house, saying, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Teacher any further?

Але Ісус, почувши ці слова, зразу говорить начальникові синагоги: не бійся, тільки віруй.	But straightaway Jesus, when he heard the word that was spoken, saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Fear not, only believe.

І не дозволив нікому йти за Собою, крім Петра, Якова та Іоана, брата Якова.	And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.

І прийшов у дім начальника синагоги і бачить тривогу і тих, що плакали та дуже голосили.	And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue; and he beholdeth a tumult, many weeping and wailing greatly.

І, увійшовши, говорить їм: чого тривожитесь і плачете? Дівчина не вмерла, а спить.	And when he was entered in, he saith unto them, Why make ye a tumult, and weep? the child is not dead, but sleepeth.

І глузували з Нього. Він же, виславши всіх, бере з Собою батька й матір дівчини і тих, що були з Ним, і входить туди, де лежала дівчина.	And they laughed him to scorn. But he, having put them all forth, taketh the father of the child and her mother and them that were with him, and goeth in where the child was lying.

І, взявши дівчину за руку, каже їй: «таліфа, кумі», що значить: дівчино, тобі кажу, встань.	And taking the child by the hand, he saith unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, Arise.

В ту ж мить дівчина встала і почала ходити, бо була років дванадцяти. І всі, хто бачив, жахнулися від дива великого.	And straightaway the damsel rose up, and walked; for she was twelve years old. And they were amazed with a great amazement.

І Він суворо наказав їм, щоб ніхто про це не знав, і сказав: дайте їй їсти.	And he charged them much that no man should know this: and he commanded that something should be given her to eat.
Глава 6	Chapter 6

1	1
І вийшов звідти Він, і прийшов у Свою батьківщину, і за Ним ішли ученики Його.	And he went out from thence; and he came into his own country; and his disciples follow him.
2	2
Коли настала субота, Він почав навчати в синагозі; і багато з тих, хто слухав, дивуючись, говорили: звідки в Ньому це? Що за премудрість дана Йому, і що за сили в руках Його?	And when the sabbath was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, Whence hath this man these things? and, What is the wisdom that is given unto him? and, Such mighty works are wrought by his hands!

Хіба не тесля Він, син Марії, брат Якова, Іосії, Іуди і Симона? Чи не тут, між нами, Його сестри? І спокушалися через Нього.	Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James, and Joses, and Judas, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended in him.

Ісус же сказав їм: не буває пророка без пошани, хіба тільки на батьківщині своїй, і серед родичів, і в домі своїм.	And Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honor, save in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.

І не міг створити там ніякого чуда, тільки зцілив небагатьох недужих, поклавши на них руки.	And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them.
6	6
І дивувався невір’ю їхньому; і обходив села навколишні, і навчав.	And he marveled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages teaching.
7	7
І покликавши дванадцятьох, почав посилати їх по двоє, даючи їм владу над нечистими духами.	And he calleth unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and he gave them authority over the unclean spirits;
8	8
І заповідав їм нічого не брати в дорогу, тільки один жезл: ні торбини, ні хліба, ні міді в поясі,	and he charged them that they should take nothing for their journey, save a staff only; no wallet, no bread, no money in their purse;
9	9
щоб були взуті у сандалі і не зодягалися у дві одежі.	but to go shod with sandals: and, said he, Put not on two coats.
10	10
І сказав їм: коли де увійдете в дім, залишайтеся в ньому, доки не підете з того місця.	And he said unto them, Wheresoever ye enter into a house, there abide till ye depart thence.

І коли хто не прийме вас і не послухає вас, виходячи звідти, обтрусіть порох з ніг ваших, на свідчення проти них. Істинно кажу вам: відрадніше буде Содому і Гоморрі в день судний, ніж місту тому.	And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, as ye go forth thence, shake off the dust that is under your feet for a testimony unto them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom or Gomorrah in the day of judgment, than for that city.

Вони пішли і проповідували, щоб покаялися;	And they went out, and preached that men should repent.

виганяли багатьох бісів і багатьох хворих мазали оливою і зціляли.	And they cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them.

Цар Ірод, почувши про Ісуса [бо Його ім’я стало відомим], говорив: це Іоан Хреститель воскрес з мертвих, і тому чудеса діються ним.	And king Herod heard thereof; for his name had become known: and he said, John the Baptizer is risen from the dead, and therefore do these powers work in him.

Одні говорили, що це Ілля, а інші говорили, що то пророк або один з пророків.	Others said, It is Elijah. And others said, It is a prophet, as one of the prophets.

Ірод же, почувши, сказав: це Іоан, якому я відсік голову; він воскрес з мертвих.	But Herod, when he heard thereof, said, It is John, whom I beheaded: he is risen from the dead.

Бо цей Ірод, пославши, взяв Іоана і посадив його у в’язницю, через Іродіаду, жінку Филипа, брата свого, з якою він одружився.	For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife; for he had married her.

Бо Іоан говорив Іродові: не годиться тобі мати жінку брата твого.	For John said unto Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother’s wife.

Іродіада ж, гніваючись на нього, бажала вбити його, та не могла.	And Herodias set herself against him, and desired to kill him; and she could not;

Бо Ірод боявся Іоана, знаючи, що він муж праведний і святий, і охороняв його; багато що робив, слухаючись його, та із задоволенням слухав його.	for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and kept him safe. And when he heard him, he did many things; and he heard him gladly.
21	21
І настав нагідний день, коли Ірод, святкуючи день свого народження, влаштував бенкет для вельмож своїх, тисяцьких і старійшин галилейських;	And when a convenient day was come, that Herod on his birthday made a supper to his lords, and the high captains, and the chief men of Galilee;

і увійшла дочка Іродіади, танцювала і догодила Іродові і тим, що возлежали з ним; цар сказав дівчині: проси в мене, чого хочеш, і дам тобі.	and when the daughter of Herodias herself came in and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat at meat with him, the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it thee.

І клявся їй: чого тільки попросиш у мене, дам тобі, навіть до половини мого царства.	And he sware unto her, Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it thee, unto the half of my kingdom.

Вона вийшла і спитала у матері своєї: що просити? Та відповіла: голову Іоана Хрестителя.	And she went out, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist.

Вона відразу ж пішла з поспішністю до царя і просила, кажучи: хочу, щоб ти зараз же дав мені на блюді голову Іоана Хрестителя.	And she came in straightaway with haste unto the king, and asked, saying, I will that thou give me forthwith on a platter the head of John the Baptist.

Цар засмутився, але, заради клятви і тих, що возлежали з ним, не захотів відмовити їй.	And the king was exceeding sorry; but for the sake of his oaths, and of them that sat at meat with him, he would not reject her.

І негайно, пославши ката, цар звелів принести голову його.	And straightaway the king sent forth a soldier of his guard, and commanded his head to be brought:

Той пішов, відсік йому голову в темниці, і приніс голову його на блюді, і віддав її дівчині, а дівчина віддала її матері своїй.	and he went and beheaded him in the prison, and brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the damsel; and the damsel gave it to her mother.

Учні його, почувши, прийшли і взяли тіло його, і поклали його у гробі.	And when his disciples heard thereof, they came and took up his corpse, and laid it in a tomb.

І зібрались апостоли до Ісуса і розповіли Йому все, і що зробили, і чого навчили.	And the apostles gather themselves together unto Jesus; and they told him all things, even whatsoever they had done, and whatsoever they had taught.

Він сказав їм: підіть ви одні у безлюдне місце і трохи відпочиньте, — бо так багато народу приходило і відходило, що їм ніколи було і їсти.	And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while. For there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.

І вирушили в безлюдне місце в човні одні.	And they went away to a desert place by boat privately.

І побачили їх, як вони вирушали, і багато хто впізнав їх; і сходились туди піші з усіх міст, і випередили їх, і зійшлись до Нього.	And the people saw them going, and many knew him, and they ran together there on foot from all the cities, and outwent them, and came together unto him.

Ісус, вийшовши, побачив багато людей і змилосердився над ними, бо вони були як вівці, що не мають пастиря; і почав навчати їх багато.	And Jesus, when he came forth, saw a great multitude, and he had compassion on them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.

І вже минуло багато часу, коли ученики Його приступили до Нього, кажучи: місце тут людне, а час уже пізній, —	And when the day was now far spent, his disciples having come unto him say, The place is desert, and the day is now far spent;

відпусти їх, щоб вони пішли у навколишні селища та села і купили собі хліба; бо їм нічого їсти.	send them away, that they may go into the country and villages round about, and buy themselves bread: for they have nothing to eat.

Він сказав їм у відповідь: ви дайте їм їсти. І сказали Йому: чи ми маємо піти купити хліба динаріїв на двісті і дати їм їсти?	But he answered and said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they say unto him, Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii’ worth of bread, and give them to eat?

Але Він сказав їм: скільки у вас є хлібів? Підіть і подивіться. Вони, довідавшись, сказали: п’ять хлібів і дві рибини.	And he saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? go and see. And when they knew, they say, Five, and two fish.

Тоді повелів їм розсадити всіх рядами на зеленій траві.	And he commanded them to make all sit down by companies upon the green grass.

І посідали рядами, по сто і по п’ятдесят.	And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and by fifties.

Він взяв п’ять хлібів і дві рибини, звівши очі на небо, благословив і розломив хліби і дав ученикам Своїм, щоб вони роздали їм; і обидві рибини поділив на всіх.	And he took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake the loaves; and he gave to his disciples to set before them; and the two fish divided he among them all.

І всі їли, і наситились.	And they all ate, and were filled.

І набрали шматків хліба і залишків від риб дванадцять повних кошиків.	And they took up twelve baskets full of the broken pieces, and of the fish.

Було ж тих, що їли хліби, близько п’яти тисяч мужів.	And they that ate the loaves were five thousand men.

І зразу наказав ученикам Своїм увійти в човен і переправитись раніше за Нього на той бік до Вифсаїди, поки Він відпустить народ.	And straightaway he constrained his disciples to enter into the boat, and to go before him unto the other side to Bethsaida, while he himself sent the multitude away.

І побачив, як вони знемагали у плаванні; бо вітер їм був зустрічний; близько до четвертої сторожі ночі прийшов до них, ідучи по морю, і хотів проминути їх.	And he saw them distressed in rowing, for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking on the sea; and he would have passed by them:

Вони ж, побачивши, що Він іде по морю, подумали, що це привид, і закричали.	but they, when they saw him walking on the sea, supposed it to be a ghost, and cried out;

Бо всі побачили Його і стривожилися. І зараз же заговорив з ними і сказав їм: підбадьоріться! Це Я, не бійтеся!	for they all saw him, and were troubled. And straightaway he spake with them, and saith unto them, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid.

І увійшов до них у човен; і вітер стих. І вони надзвичайно про себе жахалися і дивувалися,	And he went up unto them into the boat; and the wind ceased: and they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure, and marveled;

бо не зрозуміли і чуда з хлібами, тому що серце їхнє було скам’яніле.	for they understood not concerning the loaves, for their heart was hardened.

І, переправившись, були в землю Генісаретську і причалили до берега.	And when they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret, and moored to the shore.

Коли вони вийшли з човна, відразу жителі, впізнавши Його,	And when they were come out of the boat, straightaway the people knew him,

оббігли всю околицю ту і почали приносити на постелях недужих туди, де тільки чули, що Він є.	and having run round about that whole surrounding region, they began to carry about on their beds those that were sick, thither where they heard he was.

І куди тільки не приходив Він, чи в села, чи в міста, чи в селища, на перехрестях клали недужих і просили Його, щоб їм доторкнутись хоч до краю одежі Його; і ті, які доторкалися до Нього, зцілялись.	And wheresoever he entered, into villages, or cities, or the country, they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and besought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment: and as many as touched him were made whole.
Глава 7	Chapter 7

Зібрались до Нього фарисеї і деякі з книжників, які прийшли з Єрусалима,	And there are gathered together unto him the Pharisees, and certain of the scribes, who had come from Jerusalem:

І, побачивши, що деякі з учеників Його їли хліб нечистими, тобто немитими, руками, докоряли їм.	and when they saw some of his disciples eating bread with defiled, that is, unwashed, hands, they found fault.
3	3
Бо фарисеї і всі юдеї не їдять, не вимивши старанно рук, додержуючись передань предків.	(For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash their hands diligently, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders;
4	4
І після торжища, доки не обмиються, не їдять. Є і багато іншого, чого у них прийнято дотримуватись: обмивання чаш, кухлів, казанів і лавок.	and when they come from the marketplace, except they bathe themselves, they eat not; and many other things there are, which they have received to hold, washings of cups, and pots, and brazen vessels, and couches.)

Потім питають Його фарисеї і книжники: чому ученики Твої не роблять за переданням предків, а їдять хліб немитими руками?	Then the Pharisees and the scribes ask him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat their bread with unwashed hands?

Він сказав їм у відповідь: добре пророкував Ісая про вас, лицемірів, як і написано: люди ці шанують Мене устами, серце ж їхнє далеко від Мене.	And he answered and said unto them, Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoreth me with their lips, But their heart is far from me.

Марно ж шанують Мене, навчаючи вчень, заповідей людських.	But in vain do they worship me, Teaching as their doctrines the precepts of men.

Бо ви, залишивши заповідь Божу, дотримуєтесь передання людського, обмиваєте чаші і кухлі і робите багато іншого, до цього подібного.	For leaving the commandment of God, ye hold fast the tradition of men, washings of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.
9	9
І сказав їм: чи добре, що відкидаєте заповідь Божу, щоб дотримуватися свого передання?	And he said unto them, Full well do ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your tradition.
10	10
Бо Мойсей сказав: шануй батька свого і матір свою; і: хто лихословить на батька або матір, нехай смертю помре.	For Moses said, Honor thy father and thy mother; and, He that speaketh evil of father or mother, let him die the death:

А ви кажете: якщо скаже людина батькові чи матері: «корван», тобто дар Богові те, чим би ти скористався від мене,	but ye say, If a man shall say to his father or his mother, That wherewith thou mightest have been profited by me is Corban, that is to say, Given to God;

то вже дозволено нічого не робити для батька свого або матері своєї.	and ye no longer suffer him to do aught for his father or his mother;

Переступаєте слово Боже переданням вашим, яке ви ж і установили; і робите багато чого, до цього подібного.	making void the word of God by your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things ye do.

І, покликавши весь народ, говорив йому: слухайте Мене всі і розумійте:	And he called to him all the multitude, and said unto them, Hear me all of you, and understand:
15	15
нічого нема поза людиною, що входило б у неї і оскверняло її; але те, що виходить з неї, — те й оскверняє людину.	there is nothing from without the man, that going into him can defile him; but the things which proceed out of him, those are they that defile the man.
16	16
Якщо хто має вуха слухати, нехай слухає!	If any man hath ears to hear, let him hear.
17	17
І коли Він увійшов у дім від народу, ученики Його спитали Його про притчу.	And when he was entered into a house from the multitude, his disciples asked him concerning the parable.
18	18
Він сказав їм: невже ви такі нерозумні? Невже не розумієте, що все те, що входить у людину ззовні, не може осквернити її?	And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Perceive ye not, that whatsoever from without goeth into the man, it cannot defile him;
19	19
Бо входить їй не в серце, а в утробу, і виходить геть, чим очищається всяка їжа.	because it goeth not into his heart, but into his belly, and goeth out into the draft, making all meats clean?
20	20
Далі сказав: те, що виходить з людини, оскверняє людину.	And he said, That which proceedeth out of the man, that defileth the man.
21	21
Бо зсередини, від серця людського, виходять лихі помисли, перелюбства, любодійства, вбивства,	For from within, out of the heart of men, evil thoughts proceed, adulteries, fornications, murders,
22	22
злодійство, здирство, лукавство, зради, ганебні вчинки, заздрісне око, богохульство, гордощі, безумство, —	thefts, covetings, wickednesses, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, railing, pride, foolishness:

все це зло зсередини виходить і оскверняє людину.	all these evil things proceed from within, and defile the man.
24	24
І підвівшись, пішов звідти у краї Тирські та Сидонські; і, увійшовши в дім, не хотів, щоб хтось пізнав Його; але не зміг утаїтися.	And from thence he arose, and went away into the borders of Tyre and Sidon. And he entered into a house, and would have no man know it; and he could not be hidden.

Бо почула про Нього жінка, в якої дочка мала нечистого духа, прийшла і припала до ніг Його;	For a woman, whose little daughter had an unclean spirit, having heard of him, came and fell down at his feet.
26	26
а жінка та була язичниця, родом сирофінікіянка; і благала Його, щоб вигнав біса з дочки її.	Now the woman was a Greek, a Syrophoenician by race. And she besought him that he would cast forth the demon out of her daughter.
27	27
Ісус же сказав їй: дай перше насититися дітям, бо недобре взяти хліб у дітей і кинути псам.	But Jesus said unto her, Let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children’s bread and cast it to the dogs.

Вона ж сказала Йому у відповідь: так, Господи; але і пси під столом їдять крихти від дітей.	But she answered and saith unto him, Yea, Lord; for even the dogs under the table eat of the children’s crumbs.
29	29
І сказав їй: за це слово, іди; вийшов біс із дочки твоєї.	And he said unto her, For this saying go thy way; the demon is gone out of thy daughter.
30	30
І, прийшовши до свого дому, вона знайшла, що біс вийшов, і дочка лежить на постелі.	And she went away unto her house, and found the demon gone out, and her daughter laid upon the bed.

Вийшовши з країв Тирських і Сидонських, Ісус знову пішов до моря Галилейського через околиці Десятиграддя.	And again he went out from the borders of Tyre and Sidon, and came unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the borders of Decapolis.

І привели до Нього глухого й гугнявого, і благали Його, щоб поклав на нього руку.	And they bring unto him deaf man who had an impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to lay his hand upon him.

Ісус, одвівши його одного вбік від народу, вклав пальці Свої у вуха його і, сплюнувши, доторкнувся до його язика.	And he took him aside from the multitude privately, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spat, and touched his tongue;

І, звівши очі на небо, зітхнув і сказав йому: «єффафа», тобто відкрийся.	and looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened.
35	35
І відразу відкрився у нього слух, і розв’язались пута язика його, і почав говорити правильно.	And straightaway his ears were opened, and the bond of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain.
36	36
І наказав їм, щоб нікому не розповідали. Та скільки Він не забороняв їм, вони ще більше розголошували.	And he charged them that they should tell no man: but the more he charged them, so much the more a great deal they published it.
37	37
І надзвичайно дивувалися, кажучи: все добре робить, — глухим дає чути, і німим — говорити.	And they were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done all things well; he maketh even the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.
Глава 8	Chapter 8

1	1
У ті дні, коли зібралося дуже багато народу і нічого було їм їсти, Ісус, покликавши учеників Своїх, сказав їм:	In those days, when there was a very great multitude, and they had nothing to eat, Jesus called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them,

жаль Мені людей, що вже три дні знаходяться зі Мною і нічого їм їсти.	I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat:

Якщо відпущу їх голодними до своїх домів, ослабнуть у дорозі, бо багато з них прийшли здалека.	and if I send them away fasting to their home, they will faint on the way; for some of them are come from far.
4	4
Ученики Його відповіли Йому: звідки міг би хто нагодувати їх хлібом тут, у пустелі?	And his disciples answered him, Whence shall one be able to fill these men with bread here in a desert place?

І запитав у них: скільки у вас хлібів? Вони сказали: сім.	And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven.
6	6
Тоді звелів народові сісти на землю; і, взявши сім хлібів і воздавши хвалу, переломив і дав ученикам Своїм, щоб вони роздали; і вони роздали людям.	And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground: and he took the seven loaves, and having given thanks, he brake, and gave to his disciples, to set before them; and they set them before the multitude.

Мали вони і трохи риби; благословивши, Він звелів роздати і її.	And they had a few small fish: and having blessed them, he commanded to set them also before them.
8	8
І їли, і наситились; і набрали залишків сім кошиків.	And they ate, and were filled: and they took up, of broken pieces that remained over, seven baskets.
9	9
А тих, що їли, було близько чотирьох тисяч. І відпустив їх.	And they that had eaten were about four thousand: and he sent them away.
10	10
І, відразу увійшовши у човен з учениками Своїми, прибув у краї Далмануфанські.	And straightaway he entered into the boat with his disciples, and came into the parts of Dalmanutha.

Вийшли фарисеї, почали сперечатися з Ним і вимагали від Нього знамення з неба, спокушаючи Його.	And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, trying him.
12	12
І Він, тяжко зітхнувши, сказав: чого рід цей вимагає знамення? Істинно кажу вам: не дасться родові цьому знамення.	And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek after a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation.
13	13
І, залишивши їх, знову увійшов у човен і відбув на той бік.	And he left them, and entering again into a boat departed to the other side.
14	14
При цьому ученики Його забули взяти хлібів і, крім однієї хлібини, не мали з собою в човні нічого.	And they forgot to take bread; and they had not in the boat with them more than one loaf.
15	15
А Він заповідав їм, кажучи: глядіть, стережіться закваски фарисейської і закваски Іродової.	And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.
16	16
І, розмірковуючи, один одному говорили, що хлібів немає у них.	And they reasoned one with another, saying, We have no bread.
17	17
Ісус, зрозумівши, говорить їм: чого ви міркуєте про те, що немає у вас хлібів? Чи ще не збагнули і не розумієте? Чи ще окам’яніле у вас серце?	And Jesus perceiving it saith unto them, Why reason ye, because ye have no bread? do ye not yet perceive, neither understand? have ye your heart yet hardened?

Маючи очі, не бачите, маючи вуха, не чуєте?	Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?
19	19
Чи не пам’ятаєте, коли Я п’ять хлібів переломив для п’яти тисяч чоловік, скільки повних кошиків набрали ви залишків? Говорять Йому: дванадцять.	When I brake the five loaves among the five thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces took ye up? They say unto him, Twelve.

А коли сім для чотирьох тисяч, скільки кошиків набрали ви того, що залишилося? Сказали: сім.	And when the seven among the four thousand, how many basketfuls of broken pieces took ye up? And they said, Seven.

І сказав їм: як же не розумієте?	And he said unto them, How is it that ye do not understand?
22	22
Приходить до Вифсаїди; і приводять до Нього сліпого, і благають, щоб доторкнувся до нього.	And he cometh unto Bethsaida. And they bring to him a blind man, and beseech him to touch him.

Він, взявши сліпого за руку, вивів його геть із села, і, плюнувши йому на очі його, поклав на нього руки і запитав його, чи бачить що.	And he took hold of the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the village; and when he had spit on his eyes, and laid his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw aught.

Він, глянувши, сказав: бачу, мов дерева, людей, що проходять.	And he looked up, and said, I see men; for I behold them as trees, walking.
25	25
Потім знову поклав руки на очі йому і велів йому прозріти. І він зцілився, і став бачити все ясно.	Then again he laid his hands upon his eyes; and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw them all clearly.
26	26
І послав його додому, кажучи: не заходь у село і нікому в селі не розповідай.	And he sent him away to his home, saying, Neither enter into the village, nor tell it to anyone in the village.
27	27
І пішов Ісус з учениками Своїми в села Кесарії Филипової. Дорогою Він питав учеників Своїх: за кого вважають Мене люди?	And Jesus went forth, and his disciples, into the villages of Caesarea Philippi: and on the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Who do men say that I am?

Вони відповідали: за Іоана Хрестителя, інші ж — за Іллю, а деякі — за одного з пророків.	And they answered, John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; but others, One of the prophets.

Він говорить їм: а ви за кого Мене вважаєте? Петро сказав Йому у відповідь: Ти є Христос.	And he saith unto them, But who say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ.

І заборонив їм, щоб нікому не говорили про Нього.	And he charged them that they should tell no man of him.

І почав навчати їх, що Сину Людському належить багато постраждати, і відцураються від Нього старійшини, первосвященики та книжники, і буде вбитий, і на третій день воскресне.	And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.

І говорив про це відкрито. Але Петро, відізвавши Його, почав перечити Йому.	And he spake the saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him.

Він же, обернувшись і глянувши на учеників Своїх, заборонив Петрові, кажучи: відійди від Мене, сатано, бо ти думаєш не про те, що Боже, а що людське.	But he turning about, and seeing his disciples, rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan; for thou mindest not the things of God, but the things of men.

І, покликавши народ з учениками Своїми, сказав їм: хто хоче йти за Мною, нехай зречеться себе, і візьме хрест свій, і за Мною йде.	And he called unto him the multitude with his disciples, and said unto them, Whosoever will follow after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

Бо хто хоче душу свою спасти, той погубить її; а хто погубить душу свою заради Мене і Євангелія, той спасе її.	For whosoever would save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his own life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it.

Бо яка користь людині, коли вона придбає ввесь світ, а душу свою занапастить?	For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and forfeit his life?
37	37
Або що дасть людина взамін за душу свою?	Or what shall a man give in exchange for his life?

Бо якщо хтось посоромиться Мене і Моїх слів у роді цьому перелюбному і грішному, того посоромиться і Син Людський, коли прийде у славі Отця Свого з ангелами святими.	For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of man also shall be ashamed of him, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
Глава 9	Chapter 9

1	1
І сказав їм: істинно говорю вам, що деякі з тих, які стоять тут, не зазнають смерти, доки не побачать Царство Боже, що прийшло в силі.	And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There are some of them that stand here, who shall in no wise taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God come with power.

І через шість днів узяв Ісус Петра, Якова та Іоана, і вивів лише їх одних на гору високу, і преобразився перед ними.	And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and bringeth them up into a high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them;

Одяг Його став блискучим, дуже білим, мов сніг, як жоден білильник не може вибілити на землі.	and his garments became glistering, exceeding white as snow, so as no fuller on earth can whiten them.

І явилися їм Ілля з Мойсеєм, і розмовляли з Ісусом.	And there appeared unto them Elijah with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus.

При цьому Петро сказав Ісусові: Учителю, добре нам тут бути; зробимо три намети: Тобі один, Мойсеєві один та Іллі один.	And Peter answereth and saith to Jesus, Rabbi, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.

Бо не знав, що сказати; тому що страх охопив їх.	For he knew not what he should say; for they were sore afraid.

І з’явилася хмара, і осінила їх, і пролунав голос із хмари, кажучи: Цей є Син Мій Улюблений, Його слухайте!	And there came a cloud overshadowing them: and there came a voice out of the cloud, This is my beloved Son: hear ye him.

І тут же, поглянувши, нікого вже не побачили, крім одного Ісуса з собою.	And suddenly looking round about, they saw no one anymore, but Jesus only with themselves.
9	9
Коли ж вони сходили з гори, Він наказав їм нікому не розповідати про те, що бачили, доки Син Людський не воскресне з мертвих.	And as they were coming down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, save when the Son of man should have risen again from the dead.
10	10
І вони тримали в собі це слово, допитуючись: що то означає, — воскреснути з мертвих.	And they kept the saying, questioning among themselves what the rising again from the dead should mean.
11	11
І спитали Його: як же книжники говорять, що раніше належить прийти Іллі?	And they asked him, saying, How is it that the scribes say that Elijah must first come?

Він же відповів їм: Ілля повинен прийти раніш і приготувати все; і як написано про Сина Людського, Йому належить багато постраждати і бути зневаженим.	And he answered and said unto them, Elijah indeed cometh first, and restoreth all things: and how is it written of the Son of man, that he should suffer many things and be set at nought?

Але кажу вам, що Ілля прийшов, і вчинили йому, як хотіли, як написано про нього.	But I say unto you, that Elijah is come, and they have also done unto him whatsoever they would, even as it is written of him.

Прийшовши до учеників, побачив багато народу біля них і книжників, які сперечалися з ними.	And when he came to the disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and scribes questioning with them.
15	15
І відразу, побачивши Його, всі люди здивувалися, і, підбігаючи, вітали Його.	And straightaway all the multitude, when they saw him, were greatly amazed, and running to him saluted him.
16	16
Він запитав книжників: про що сперечаєтеся між собою?	And he asked the scribes, What question ye with them?
17	17
Один з натовпу сказав у відповідь: Учителю, я привів до Тебе мого сина, що має духа німого.	And one of the multitude answered and said, Teacher, I brought unto thee my son, who hath a dumb spirit;
18	18
Де тільки нападе на нього, кидає його на землю, і він пускає піну, і скрегоче зубами своїми, і ціпеніє. Я казав ученикам Твоїм, щоб вигнали його, та вони не змогли.	and wheresoever it taketh him, it dasheth him down: and he foameth, and grindeth his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast it out; and they were not able.

Він же, відповідаючи йому, сказав: о роде невірний, доки буду з вами? Доки буду терпіти вас? Приведіть його до Мене.	And he answereth him and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I bear with you? bring him unto me.

І привели його до Нього. Побачивши Його, дух стряснув його; він упав на землю і валявся, пускаючи піну.	And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightaway the spirit tare him grievously; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming.
21	21
Ісус запитав батька його: скільки років, як це сталося з ним? Він сказав: з дитинства;	And he asked his father, How long a time is it since this hath come unto him? And he said, From a child.
22	22
багато разів дух кидав його і в огонь і у воду, щоб згубити його; але, якщо можеш, допоможи нам, змилосердься над нами.	And ofttimes it hath cast him both into the fire and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do anything, have compassion on us, and help us.
23	23
Ісус сказав йому: якщо хоч трохи можеш вірувати, все можливе віруючому.	And Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.

І тут же скрикнув батько отрока, зі сльозами говорячи: вірую, Господи! Допоможи моєму невірству.	And straightaway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, I believe, Lord; help thou mine unbelief.

Ісус, побачивши, що збігається народ, заборонив духові нечистому, сказавши йому: душе німий і глухий! Я тобі повеліваю: вийди з нього і більше не входь у нього.	And when Jesus saw that a multitude came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I command thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.

І, закричавши та сильно напружившись, вийшов; і він став наче мертвий, так що багато хто говорив, що він помер.	And having cried out, and torn him much, he came out: and the boy became as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead.

Але Ісус, взявши його за руку, підняв його; і той устав.	But Jesus took him by the hand, and raised him up; and he arose.
28	28
Коли Ісус увійшов у дім, ученики спитали Його на самоті: чому ми не змогли вигнати його?	And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, How is it that we could not cast it out?

І сказав їм: цей рід не може вийти інакше, як від молитви і посту.	And he said unto them, This kind can come out by nothing, save by prayer and fasting.

Вийшовши звідти, проходили через Галилею, і Він не хотів, щоб хто довідався.	And they went forth from thence, and passed through Galilee; and he would not that any man should know it.

Бо навчав учеників Своїх і говорив їм, що Сина Людського видано буде до рук людських, і вб’ють Його, і, вбитий будучи, Він на третій день воскресне.	For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered up into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after he is killed, he shall rise again the third day.

Прийшли до Капернаума; і коли був у домі, запитав їх: про що дорогою ви міркували між собою?	And he came to Capernaum: and when he was in the house he asked them, What were ye reasoning among yourselves on the way?

Вони мовчали, бо дорогою сперечалися між собою, хто більший.	But they held their peace: for they had disputed one with another on the way, who was the greatest.

І, сівши, запросив дванадцятьох і сказав їм: хто хоче бути першим, нехай буде з усіх найменшим і всім слугою.	And he sat down, and called the twelve; and he saith unto them, If any man would be first, he shall be last of all, and servant of all.

І, взявши дитину, поставив її посеред них і, обнявши її, сказав їм:	And he took a little child, and set him in the midst of them: and taking him in his arms, he said unto them,

хто одного з таких дітей прийме в ім’я Моє, той Мене приймає; а хто Мене приймає, той не Мене приймає, але Того, Хто послав Мене.	Whosoever shall receive one of such little children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me.

Відповів Йому Іоан, сказавши: Учителю, ми бачили одного, який Твоїм іменем виганяє бісів, а не ходить за нами; і заборонили йому, бо він не йде слідом за нами.	And John answered him, saying, Teacher, we saw one casting out demons in thy name, who followeth not us; and we forbade him, because he followeth not us.

Ісус сказав: не бороніть йому, бо нема нікого, хто сотворить чудо в ім’я Моє і зможе скоро лихословити на Мене.	But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man who shall do a mighty work in my name, and be able quickly to speak evil of me.

Бо хто не проти вас, той за вас.	For he that is not against you is for you.

І хто напоїть вас чашею води в ім’я Моє, тому що ви Христові, істинно кажу вам, не втратить своєї нагороди.	For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye are Christ’s, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.

А хто спокусить одного з малих цих, віруючих у Мене, тому краще було б, якби повісили йому камінь жорновий на шию і кинули його в море.	And whosoever shall cause one of the little ones that believe on me to stumble, it were better for him if a millstone were hung about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.

І якщо спокушає тебе рука твоя, відсічи її; краще тобі калікою ввійти в життя, ніж, дві руки маючи, йти в геєну, в огонь невгасимий,	And if thy hand cause thee to stumble, cut it off: it is good for thee to enter into life maimed, rather than having thy two hands to go into hell, into the unquenchable fire;

де черв їхній не вмирає і вогонь не вгасає.	where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

І якщо нога твоя спокушає тебе, відсічи її; краще тобі кривим увійти в життя, ніж, дві ноги маючи, бути вкинутим у геєну, в огонь невгасимий,	And if thy foot cause thee to stumble, cut it off: it is good for thee to enter into life halt, rather than having thy two feet to be cast into hell, into the unquenchable fire;

де черв їхній не вмирає і вогонь не вгасає.	where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

І якщо око твоє спокушає тебе, вирви його: краще тобі з одним оком увійти в Царство Боже, ніж, два ока маючи, бути вкинутим у геєну вогненну,	And if thine eye cause thee to stumble, cast it out: it is good for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into the hell of fire;

де черв їхній не вмирає і вогонь не вгасає.	where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

Бо кожний вогнем осолиться, і всяка жертва сіллю посолиться.	For everyone shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.

Сіль — добра річ; якщо ж сіль не солона буде, чим осолиться? Майте сіль у собі і майте мир між собою.	Salt is good: but if the salt have lost its saltiness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace one with another.
Глава 10	Chapter 10

Вийшовши звідти, приходить у краї Юдейські, по той бік Йордану. Знову збирається до Нього народ, і, за звичаєм Своїм, Він знову навчав їх.	And he arose from thence, and cometh into the borders of Judea by the other side of the Jordan: and multitudes come together unto him again; and, as he was wont, he taught them again.

Підійшли фарисеї і запитали, спокушаючи Його: чи дозволено чоловікові розводитися з жінкою?	And there came unto him Pharisees, and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? trying him.

Він сказав їм у відповідь: що вам заповів Мойсей?	And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you?

Вони сказали: Мойсей дозволив написати розвідний лист і розлучатись.	And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away.

Ісус відповів їм: через жорстокосердя ваше написав вам заповідь цю.	And Jesus answered and said unto them, For your hardness of heart he wrote you this commandment.

На початку ж творіння чоловіком і жінкою створив їх Бог.	But from the beginning of the creation, God made them male and female.

Ось чому залишить чоловік батька свого і матір	For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife;

і пристане до жінки своєї, і будуть обоє єдиною плоттю. Так що вони вже не двоє, а одна плоть.	and the two shall become one flesh: so that they are no more two, but one flesh.

Отже, що Бог з’єднав, того людина нехай не розлучає.	What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

У домі ученики Його знову запитали Його про те саме.	And in the house his disciples asked him again of the same matter.

Він сказав їм: хто розведеться з жінкою своєю та ожениться на іншій, той перелюб чинить з нею.	And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her:

І якщо жінка розведеться з чоловіком своїм і вийде за іншого, перелюб чинить.	and if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.

Приносили до Нього дітей, щоб Він доторкнувся до них; ученики ж не допускали тих, що приносили.	And they were bringing unto him little children, that he should touch them: and the disciples rebuked those that brought them.

Побачивши те, Ісус обурився і сказав їм: дозволяйте дітям приходити до Мене і не забороняйте їм, бо таких є Царство Боже.	But when Jesus saw it, he was moved with indignation, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me; forbid them not: for to such belongeth the kingdom of God.

Істинно кажу вам: хто не прийме Царства Божого, як дитина, той не ввійде в нього.	Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall in no wise enter therein.

І, обнявши їх, покладав руки на них і благословляв їх.	And he took them in his arms, laid his hands upon them, and blessed them.
17	17
Коли виходив Він у дорогу, підбіг один якийсь, упав перед Ним на коліна і запитав Його: Учителю благий, що мені робити, щоб життя вічне успадкувати?	And as he was going forth into the way, there ran one to him, and knelt to him, and asked him, Good Teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?

Ісус сказав йому: чому ти називаєш Мене благим? Ніхто не благий, тільки один Бог.	And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good save one, even God.

Заповіді знаєш: не чини перелюбу, не вбивай, не кради, не лжесвідчи, не кривди, шануй батька твого і матір.	Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor thy father and mother.

Той же сказав Йому у відповідь: Учителю, всього цього я дотримувався від юности моєї.	And he answered and said unto him, Teacher, all these things have I observed from my youth.

Ісус, поглянувши на нього з любов’ю, сказав йому: одного тобі не вистачає: піди і все, що маєш, продай і роздай убогим; і матимеш скарб на небесах; тоді приходь та іди вслід за Мною, взявши хрест.	And Jesus looking upon him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me, taking up the cross.

Він же, засмутившись від цього слова, відійшов зі скорботою, бо мав велике багатство.	But his countenance fell at the saying, and he went away sorrowful: for he was one that had great possessions.

І, поглянувши довкола, Ісус сказав ученикам Своїм: як тяжко тим, хто має багатство, увійти в Царство Боже.	And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!

Ученики вжахнулись від слів Його. Але Ісус знову говорить їм у відповідь: діти, як тяжко тим, хто надіється на багатство, увійти в Царство Боже!	And the disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!

Бо легше верблюдові пройти крізь вушко голки, ніж багатому ввійти в Царство Боже.	It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

Вони ж надзвичайно здивувалися і говорили між собою: хто ж може спастись?	And they were astonished exceedingly, saying among themselves, Then who can be saved?

Ісус, глянувши на них, говорить: для людей це неможливо, та не для Бога, бо все можливо Богові.	And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for all things are possible with God.
28	28
І почав Петро говорити Йому: ось ми все залишили і пішли слідом за Тобою.	Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and followed thee.
29	29
Ісус же відповів: істинно говорю вам: нема нікого, хто залишив би дім, чи братів, чи сестер, чи батька, чи матір, чи жінку, чи дітей, чи землю ради Мене і ради Євангелія	Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and for the gospel’s sake,

і не одержав би сторицею вже нині, в час цей, серед гонінь, — домів, і братів, і сестер, і батьків, і матерів, і дітей, і земель, а в грядущому віці — життя вічне.	but he shall receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.

І багато хто з перших будуть останніми, а останні — першими.	But many that are first shall be last; and the last first.

Коли вони були в дорозі, йдучи до Єрусалима, Ісус ішов попереду них, а вони жахалися і, йдучи за Ним слідом, боялися.	And they were on the way, going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus was going before them: and they were amazed; and as they followed, they were afraid. And he took again the twelve, and began to tell them the things that were to happen unto him,

Покликавши знову дванадцятьох, Він почав їм говорити про те, що буде з Ним: ось ми йдемо до Єрусалима, і Син Людський виданий буде первосвященикам і книжникам, і осудять Його на смерть, і видадуть Його язичникам;	saying, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the chief priests and scribes; and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him unto the Gentiles:

і знущатимуться з Нього, і битимуть Його, і обплюють Його, і уб’ють Його; і на третій день воскресне.	and they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him, and shall kill him; and the third day he shall rise again.

Тоді підійшли до Нього Яків та Іоан, сини Зеведеєві, і сказали: Учителю, ми хочемо, щоб Ти зробив нам, про що попросимо.	And there come near unto him James and John, the sons of Zebedee, saying, Teacher, we would that thou shouldest do for us whatsoever we shall ask.

Він сказав їм: що хочете, щоб Я зробив вам?	And he said unto them, What would ye that I should do for you?

Вони сказали Йому: дай нам одному праворуч від Тебе, а другому ліворуч від Тебе сісти у славі Твоїй.	And they said unto him, Grant unto us that we may sit, one on thy right hand, and one on thy left hand, in thy glory.

Ісус же сказав їм: не знаєте, чого просите. Чи можете пити чашу, яку Я п’ю, і хрещенням, яким Я хрещусь, хреститися?	But Jesus said unto them, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink the cup that I drink? and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?

Вони відповіли Йому: можемо. Ісус же сказав їм: чашу, яку Я п’ю, вип’єте, і хрещенням, яким Я хрещусь, охреститеся;	And they said unto him, We are able. And Jesus said unto them, The cup that I drink indeed ye shall drink; and with the baptism that I am baptized withal shall ye be baptized:

але щоб сісти праворуч і ліворуч від Мене — не від Мене залежить, а кому уготовано.	but to sit on my right hand and on my left hand is not mine to give; but it is for them for whom it hath been prepared.
41	41
І, почувши, десять почали гніватись на Якова та Іоана.	And when the ten heard it, they began to be moved with indignation concerning James and John.
42	42
Ісус же, покликавши їх, сказав їм: ви знаєте, що ті, яких називають князями народів, панують над ними, і вельможі їхні володіють ними.	But Jesus called them to him, and saith unto them, Ye know that they who are accounted to rule over the Gentiles lord it over them; and their great ones exercise authority over them.

Але між вами нехай не буде так: хто хоче бути більшим між вами, нехай буде вам слугою.	But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever would become great among you, shall be your minister;
44	44
І хто хоче бути першим між вами, нехай буде всім рабом.	and whosoever would become first among you, shall be servant of all.

Бо і Син Людський не для того прийшов, щоб Йому служили, але щоб послужити і віддати душу Свою за визволення багатьох.	For the Son of man also came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

Приходять до Єрихона. І коли Він з учениками Своїми і численним людом виходив з Єрихона, син Тимеїв, Вартимей, сліпий, сидів при дорозі і просив милостиню.	And they come to Jericho: and as he went out from Jericho, with his disciples and a great multitude, a son of Timaeus, Bartimaeus the blind man, was sitting by the wayside begging.

Почувши, що це Ісус Назорей, він почав кричати і говорити: Ісусе, Сину Давидів! Помилуй мене.	And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Son of David, Jesus, have mercy on me.

І примушували його мовчати багато хто, він же ще більше кричав: Сину Давидів, помилуй мене!	And many rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried out the more a great deal, Thou son of David, have mercy on me.

Ісус зупинився і сказав його покликати. Кличуть сліпого і кажуть йому: не бійся, вставай, кличе тебе.	And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good cheer: rise, he calleth thee.

Той скинув з себе верхній одяг, встав і прийшов до Ісуса.	And he, casting away his garment, rose up, and came to Jesus.

Відповідаючи йому, Ісус спитав: чого ти хочеш від Мене? Сліпий сказав Йому: Учителю, аби я прозрів.	And Jesus answereth, and saith unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? And the blind man said unto him, Rabboni, that I may receive my sight.

Ісус сказав йому: йди, віра твоя спасла тебе. І відразу він прозрів, і пішов дорогою за Ісусом.	And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And straightaway he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.
Глава 11	Chapter 11

1	1
Коли наблизились до Єрусалима, до Виффагії та Вифанії, до гори Елеонської, Ісус посилає двох з учеників Своїх	And when they draw nigh unto Jerusalem, unto Bethsphage and Bethany, at the mount of Olives, he sendeth two of his disciples,
2	2
і говорить їм: підіть у селище, яке прямо перед вами; і як тільки ввійдете в нього, зараз же знайдете осля прив’язане, на якого ніхто з людей ще не сідав; відв’язавши його, приведіть.	and saith unto them, Go your way into the village that is over against you: and straightaway as ye enter into it, ye shall find a colt tied, whereon no man hath ever sat; loose him, and bring him.

І якщо хто скаже вам: що це ви робите, — відповідайте, що Господь потребує його; і відразу ж пошле його сюди.	And if anyone say unto you, Why do ye this? say ye that the Lord hath need of him; and straightaway he will send him hither.

Вони пішли і знайшли молодого осла, прив’язаного на вулиці біля воріт, і відв’язали його.	And they went away, and found a colt tied at the door without in the open street; and they loose him.
5	5
І деякі з тих, що там стояли, говорили їм: що робите, навіщо відв’язуєте осля?	And certain of them that stood there said unto them, What do ye, loosing the colt?

Вони відповіли їм, як велів Ісус, і ті відпустили їх.	And they said unto them even as Jesus had commanded: and they let them go.
7	7
І привели осля до Ісуса; і поклали на нього одяг свій; і сів на нього.	And they brought the colt unto Jesus, and cast on him their garments; and he sat upon him.
8	8
Багато хто стелив свій одяг по дорозі; а інші різали гілки з дерев і встилали ними дорогу.	And many spread their garments upon the way; and others cut branches from the trees, and spread them in the way.
9	9
І ті, які пішли попереду Нього, і ті, які супроводжували Його, викликували: осанна! Благословен, Хто гряде в ім’я Господнє!	And they that went before, and they that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna; Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord:

Благословенне Царство отця нашого Давида, що гряде в ім’я Господнє! Осанна у вишніх!	Blessed is the kingdom of our father David, That cometh in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest.

І ввійшов Ісус в Єрусалим і в храм; і, оглянувши все, оскільки час уже був пізній, пішов до Вифанії з дванадцятьма.	And Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and into the temple; and when he had looked round about upon all things, it being now eventide, he went out unto Bethany with the twelve.

На другий день, коли вони вийшли з Вифанії, зголоднів.	And on the morrow, when they were come out from Bethany, he hungered.

І, побачивши здалека смоковницю, вкриту листям, пішов, чи не знайде чого на ній; але, прийшовши до неї, нічого не знайшов, крім листя, бо ще не час був для смокв.	And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find anything thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for it was not the season of figs.

І сказав їй Ісус: віднині нехай довіку ніхто плоду твого не з’їсть. І чули те ученики Його.	And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit from thee henceforward forever. And his disciples heard it.

Прийшли до Єрусалима. Ісус, увійшовши до храму, почав виганяти тих, що продавали і купували в храмі; і столи міняйл, і лави тих, що продавали голубів, поперекидав.	And they come to Jerusalem: and Jesus entered into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the money-changers, and the seats of them that sold the doves;

І не дозволяв, щоб хто переніс через храм будь-яку річ.	and he would not suffer that any man should carry a vessel through the temple.

І вчив їх, кажучи: чи не написано: дім Мій домом молитви назветься для всіх народів? Ви ж зробили його вертепом розбійників.	And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations? but ye have made it a den of robbers.

Почули це книжники і первосвященики і шукали, як би погубити Його, але боялися, тому що весь народ дивувався Його вченню.	And the scribes and the chief priests heard it, and sought how they might destroy him: for they feared him, because all the multitude was astonished at his teaching.

Коли ж стало пізно, Він вийшов геть з міста.	And when even was come, he went forth out of the city.

Проходячи вранці, побачили смоковницю, що всохла до кореня.	And in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree withered away from the roots.

І, згадавши, Петро сказав Йому: Учителю, дивись, смоковниця, яку Ти прокляв, усохла.	And Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him, Rabbi, behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away.

Ісус, відповідаючи, говорить їм:	And answering, Jesus saith unto them, Have faith in God.

майте віру Божу, бо істинно кажу вам, якщо хто скаже горі цій: посунься і кинься в море, і не сумніватиметься в серці своїм, а повірить, що станеться за його словом, — буде йому, що тільки скаже.	For verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou taken up and cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith cometh to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

Тому кажу вам: усе, чого ви попросите в молитві, вірте, що одержите, — і буде вам.	Therefore I say unto you, All things whatsoever ye ask for, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

І коли стоїте на молитві, прощайте, коли щось маєте на кого, щоб і Отець ваш Небесний відпустив вам гріхи ваші.	And whensoever ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have aught against anyone; that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.

Якщо ж не прощаєте, то і Отець ваш Небесний не відпустить вам гріхів ваших.	But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father who is in heaven forgive your trespasses.

Прийшли знову до Єрусалима. І коли Він ходив у храмі, підійшли до Нього первосвященики, і книжники, і старійшини	And they come again to Jerusalem: and as he was walking in the temple, there come to him the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders;

і говорили Йому: якою владою Ти це робиш? І хто дав Тобі владу це робити?	and they say unto him, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority to do these things?

Ісус сказав їм у відповідь: запитаю і Я вас про одне, відповідайте Мені; тоді і Я скажу вам, якою владою це роблю.	And Jesus answered and said unto them, I also will ask of you one question, and answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things.

Хрещення Іоанове з небес було чи від людей? Скажіть Мені.	The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men? answer me.

Ті міркували між собою: якщо скажемо, що з небес, то Він скаже: чому ж ви не повірили йому?	And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then did ye not believe him?

А сказати, що від людей, — боялись народу; бо всі знали, що Іоан воістину був пророк.	But should we say, From men—they feared the people: for all held John to be a prophet indeed.

І сказали у відповідь Ісусові: не знаємо. Тоді Ісус сказав їм у відповідь: і Я не скажу вам, якою владою це роблю.	And they answer and say unto Jesus, We know not. And Jesus answereth and saith unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.
Глава 12	Chapter 12

1	1
І почав говорити їм притчами: один чоловік насадив виноградник і обгородив плотом, і викопав виностік^*, і збудував башту, і, передавши все виноградарям, від’їхав.	And he began to speak unto them in parables. A man planted a vineyard, and set a hedge about it, and dug a pit for the winepress, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into another country.

І послав у свій час до виноградарів слугу — одержати від виноградарів плоди з виноградника.	And at the season he sent to the husbandmen a servant, that he might receive from the husbandmen of the fruit of the vineyard.

Вони ж, схопивши його, били і відіслали ні з чим.	But they took him, and beat him, and sent him away empty.
4	4
Знову послав до них іншого слугу; і тому камінням розбили голову і відіслали з безчестям.	And again he sent unto them another servant; and at him they cast stones, and wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully handled.
5	5
І знову іншого послав, і того вбили; і багатьох інших — одних били, інших вбивали.	And again he sent another; and him they killed: and many others; beating some, and killing some.

Маючи ж єдиного сина, улюбленого свого, наостанку послав і його до них, кажучи: посоромляться сина мого.	Having yet therefore one son, his well-beloved, he sent him also last unto them, saying, They will reverence my son.

Але виноградарі сказали один одному: це спадкоємець, ходім уб’ємо його, і спадщина буде наша.	But those husbandmen said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance shall be ours.

І, схопивши його, вбили і викинули геть з виноградника.	And they took him, and killed him, and cast him forth out of the vineyard.

Що ж зробить господар виноградника? Прийде і покарає виноградарів смертю, і віддасть виноградник іншим.	What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do? he will come and destroy the husbandmen, and will give the vineyard unto others.

Невже ви не читали цього в Писанні: камінь, який відкинули будівничі, той самий став наріжним каменем.	Have ye not read even this scripture: The stone which the builders rejected, The same was made the head of the corner;

Це від Господа, і дивним є в очах наших.	This was from the Lord, And it is marvelous in our eyes?

І шукали нагоди схопити Його, але побоялися народу, бо зрозуміли, що про них сказав притчу; і, залишивши Його, відійшли.	And they sought to lay hold on him; and they feared the multitude; for they perceived that he spake the parable against them: and they left him, and went away.
13	13
І посилають до Нього декого з фарисеїв та іродіан, щоб спіймати Його на слові.	And they send unto him certain of the Pharisees and of the Herodians, that they might catch him in talk.
14	14
Вони ж, прийшовши, говорять Йому: Учителю, ми знаємо, що Ти справедливий і не прагнеш будь-кому догодити, бо не зважаєш на особу, а воістину навчаєш путі Божої. Чи дозволено платити податок кесареві, чи ні? Давати нам чи не давати?	And when they were come, they say unto him, Teacher, we know that thou art true, and carest not for anyone; for thou regardest not the person of men, but of a truth teachest the way of God: Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not? Shall we give, or shall we not give?

Але Він, знаючи їхнє лицемірство, сказав їм: чого спокушаєте Мене? Принесіть Мені динарій, щоб Я побачив його.	But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said unto them, Why make ye trial of me? bring me a denarius, that I may see it.

Вони принесли. Тоді говорить їм: чиє це зображення і напис? Вони ж сказали: кесаря.	And they brought it. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? And they said unto him, Caesar’s.

Ісус сказав їм у відповідь: віддайте кесареве кесарю, а Боже Богові. І дивувалися Йому.	And Jesus answered and said unto them, Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s. And they marveled at him.

Потім прийшли до Нього саддукеї, які кажуть, що не існує воскресіння, і запитали Його, кажучи:	And there come unto him Sadducees, who say that there is no resurrection; and they asked him, saying,

Учителю! Мойсей написав нам: якщо в кого помре брат і залишить жінку, то брат його нехай візьме жінку його і відродить потомство братові своєму.	Teacher, Moses wrote unto us, If a man’s brother die, and leave a wife behind him, and leave no children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.

Було сім братів: перший узяв жінку і помер, не залишивши дітей.	There were seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and dying left no seed;

Узяв її другий і помер, і він теж не залишив дітей; і третій так само.	and the second took her, and died, neither left he any seed; and the third likewise:

Брали її за себе семеро і не залишили дітей. Після всіх померла й жінка.	and the seven took her, and left no seed. Last of all the woman also died.

Отже, в час воскресіння, коли воскреснуть, котрого з них буде вона жінкою? Бо семеро мали її за жінку.	In the resurrection, when they shall rise again, whose wife shall she be of them? for the seven had her to wife.

Ісус сказав їм у відповідь: чи не тому ви й помиляєтеся, що не знаєте ні Писання, ані сили Божої?	And Jesus answered and said unto them, Is it not for this cause that ye err, that ye know not the scriptures, nor the power of God?

Бо, коли воскреснуть з мертвих, тоді не будуть ні женитися, ні заміж виходити, а будуть як ангели на небесах.	For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels that are in heaven.

А про мертвих, що вони воскреснуть, хіба не читали ви в книзі Мойсея, як при купині Бог сказав йому: Я Бог Авраама, і Бог Ісаака, і Бог Якова?	But as touching the dead, that they are raised; have ye not read in the book of Moses, in the place concerning the Bush, how God spake unto him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?

Бог не є Бог мертвих, а Бог живих. Отже, ви дуже помиляєтесь.	He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: ye therefore do greatly err.

І приступив один з книжників, що слухав, як вони сперечалися, і бачив, як добре Ісус відповів їм, і спитав Його: яка заповідь перша з усіх заповідей?	And one of the scribes came, and heard them questioning together, and knowing that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all?

Ісус відповів йому: перша з усіх заповідей: слухай, Ізраїлю! Господь Бог наш є Господь єдиний.	And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God, the Lord is one:

І полюби Господа Бога твого всім серцем твоїм, і всією душею твоєю, і всім розумінням твоїм, і всією силою твоєю, — ось перша заповідь!	and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

І друга подібна до неї: полюби ближнього твого, як самого себе. Більшої за ці заповіді немає.	And a second like it is this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

Книжник сказав Йому: добре, Учителю! Ти істину сказав, що один є Бог, і немає іншого, крім Нього;	And the scribe said unto him, Of a truth, Teacher, thou hast well said that he is one; and there is none other but he:

і любити Його всім серцем, і всім розумом, і всією душею, і всією силою, і любити ближнього, як самого себе, є більше за всі всепалення і жертви.	and to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbor as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.

Ісус, побачивши, що він розумно відповів, сказав йому: ти недалеко від Царства Божого. Після того ніхто не насмілився питати Його.	And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question.

Продовжуючи навчати в храмі, Ісус говорив: як це кажуть книжники, що Христос є син Давидів?	And Jesus answered and said, as he taught in the temple, How say the scribes that the Christ is the son of David?

Бо сам Давид сказав Духом Святим: сказав Господь Господеві моєму: сиди праворуч Мене, доки покладу ворогів Твоїх — підніжжям ніг Твоїх.	for David himself said in the Holy Spirit, The Lord saith unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, Till I make thine enemies the footstool of thy feet.

Отже, сам Давид називає Його Господом — як же Він син йому? І багато народу слухало Його з насолодою.	David himself therefore calleth him Lord; and whence is he his son? And the common people heard him gladly.

І говорив їм у вченні Своїм: стережіться книжників, які люблять ходити в довгому одязі і приймати вітання на народних зібраннях,	And he said unto them in his teaching, Beware of the scribes, who desire to walk in long robes, and to have salutations in the marketplaces,

сидіти спереду в синагогах і возлежати на перших місцях на бенкетах, —	and chief seats in the synagogues, and chief places at feasts:

ції, котрі поїдають доми вдів і лицемірно довго моляться, приймуть найтяжче осудження.	they that devour widows’ houses, and for a pretense make long prayers; these shall receive greater condemnation.

І сів Ісус навпроти скарбниці і спостерігав, як народ кладе гроші в скарбницю. Чимало заможних клали багато.	And Jesus sat down over against the treasury, and beheld how the multitude cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.

Прийшла одна вбога вдова і поклала дві лепти, тобто кодрант.	And there came a poor widow, and she cast in two mites, which make a penny.

Покликавши учеників Своїх, Ісус сказав їм: істинно кажу вам, що ця вбога вдова поклала більше за всіх, хто клав у скарбницю,	And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, This poor widow hath cast in more than all they that are casting into the treasury:
44	44
бо всі клали з достатку свого, а вона із злиднів своїх поклала все, що мала, весь прожиток свій.	for they all did cast in of their superfluity; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.
Глава 13	Chapter 13

1	1
І коли виходив Він з храму, один з учеників Його сказав Йому: Учителю, подивись, які камені і які будівлі!	And as he went forth out of the temple, one of his disciples saith unto him, Teacher, behold, what manner of stones and what manner of buildings!
2	2
Ісус сказав йому у відповідь: бачиш ці великі будівлі? Все це буде зруйноване, так що не залишиться тут і каменя на камені.	And Jesus answered and said unto him, Seest thou these great buildings? there shall not be left one stone upon another, which shall not be thrown down.
3	3
І коли Він сидів на горі Елеонській проти храму, то Петро, Яків, Іоан і Андрій запитали Його на самоті:	And as he sat on the mount of Olives over against the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately,

скажи нам, коли це буде, і яке знамення, коли все це має скінчитися?	Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign when all these things are about to be accomplished?

Відповідаючи їм, Ісус почав говорити: бережіться, щоб ніхто не спокусив вас,	And Jesus answered them and began to say, Take heed that no man lead you astray.

бо багато хто прийде під іменем Моїм і говоритиме, що це Я; і багатьох спокусять.	For many shall come in my name, saying, I am he; and shall lead many astray.
7	7
Коли ж почуєте про війни і воєнні чутки, не жахайтеся: бо належить цьому бути, — але це ще не кінець.	And when ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars, be not troubled: for these things must needs come to pass; but the end is not yet.
8	8
Бо постане народ на народ і царство на царство; і будуть землетруси у різних місцях, і будуть голод і заворушення; це — початок хвороб.	For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there shall be earthquakes in diverse places; and there shall be famines and troubles: these things are the beginnings of travail.
9	9
Стережіться ж ви самі, бо вас видаватимуть на судища і битимуть у синагогах, і перед правителями і царями поставлять вас через Мене, на свідчення перед ними.	But take ye heed to yourselves: for they shall deliver you up to councils; and in synagogues shall ye be beaten; and before governors and kings shall ye stand for my sake, for a testimony unto them.

І всім народам раніш повинно бути проповідане Євангеліє.	And the gospel must first be preached unto all the nations.
11	11
Коли ж поведуть видавати вас, то не турбуйтесь заздалегідь, що вам говорити, і не обдумуйте; але, що дасться вам у той час, те й говоріть, бо не ви будете говорити, а Дух Святий.	But when they shall lead you to judgment, and deliver you up, be not anxious beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye; for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Spirit.

Видасть же брат брата на смерть, і батько — дітей; і постануть діти на батьків, і уб’ють їх.	And brother shall deliver up brother to death, and the father his child; and children shall rise up against parents, and cause them to be put to death.
13	13
І ненавидітимуть вас усі за ім’я Моє; хто ж перетерпить до кінця, той спасеться.	And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end, the same shall be saved.
14	14
Коли ж побачите мерзоту запустіння, провіщену пророком Даниїлом, яка стоятиме, де не належить, хто читає, нехай розуміє, тоді хто буде в Юдеї, нехай біжить у гори;	But when ye see the abomination of desolation, which was spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where he ought not (let him that readeth understand), then let them that are in Judea flee unto the mountains:

а хто на покрівлі, той нехай не сходить у дім і не заходить узяти щось з дому свого;	and let him that is on the housetop not go down to the house, nor enter in, to take anything out of his house:
16	16
і хто на полі, нехай не вертається назад взяти одяг свій.	and let him that is in the field not return back to take his cloak.
17	17
Горе ж вагітним і матерям-годувальницям у ті дні!	But woe unto them that are with child and to them that give suck in those days!
18	18
Моліться, щоб не сталася втеча ваша взимку.	And pray ye that your flight be not in the winter.
19	19
Бо в ті дні буде така скорбота, якої не було від початку творіння, яке вчинив Бог, навіть і донині, і не буде.	For those days shall be tribulation, such as there hath not been the like from the beginning of the creation which God created until now, and never shall be.
20	20
І коли б Господь не вкоротив тих днів, то не спаслась би ніяка плоть; але заради обраних, яких Він обрав, укоротить дні.	And except the Lord had shortened the days, no flesh would have been saved; but for the elect’s sake, whom he chose, he shortened the days.
21	21
Тоді, якщо хто скаже вам: ось, тут Христос, або: ось там, — не йміть віри.	And then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is the Christ; or, Lo, there; believe it not:

Бо встануть лжехристи і лжепророки і дадуть знамення і чудеса, щоб спокусити, якщо можливо, і обраних.	for there shall arise false Christs and false prophets, and shall show signs and wonders, that they may lead astray, if possible, even the elect.

Ви ж бережіться. Ось, Я наперед сказав вам усе.	But take ye heed: behold, I have told you all things beforehand.

Але в ті дні, після тієї скорботи, сонце померкне, і місяць не дасть свого світла,	But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light,
25	25
і зірки спадуть з неба, і сили небесні похитнуться.	and the stars of heaven shall be falling, and the powers that are in the heavens shall be shaken.
26	26
І тоді побачать Сина Людського, Який гряде на хмарах, з силою і славою великою.	And then shall they see the Son of man coming in clouds with great power and glory.
27	27
І тоді Він пошле ангелів Своїх і збере обраних Своїх від чотирьох вітрів, від краю землі до краю неба.	And then shall he send forth his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.

Від смоковниці навчіться притчі: коли гілля її стає вже м’яким і пускає листя, то знаєте, що близько літо.	Now from the fig tree learn her parable: when her branch is now become tender, and putteth forth its leaves, ye know that the summer is nigh;

Так і ви: коли побачите, що все збувається, знайте, що близько, при дверях.	even so ye also, when ye see these things coming to pass, know ye that he is nigh, even at the doors.
30	30
Істинно кажу вам: не перейде рід цей, як усе це буде.	Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, until all these things be accomplished.

Небо і земля перейдуть, слова ж Мої не перейдуть.	Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

Про день же той або про годину ніхто не знає: ні ангели небесні, ні Син, а тільки Отець.	But of that day or hour knoweth no one, not even the angels that are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.

Пильнуйте, будьте на сторожі і моліться, бо не знаєте, коли настане час цей.	Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.

Подібно до того, коли чоловік, відходячи в дорогу і залишаючи свій дім, дав владу слугам своїм, і кожному своє діло, і наказав воротареві пильнувати,	It is as when a man, sojourning in another country, having left his house, and given authority to his servants, and to each one his work, commanded also the porter to watch.

так і ви: пильнуйте, бо не знаєте, коли прийде господар дому, ввечері, чи опівночі, чи як півні заспівають, чи вранці.	Watch therefore: for ye know not when the lord of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at cockcrowing, or in the morning;

Щоб, коли він несподівано прийде, ви не спали.	lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping.

А що кажу вам, кажу всім: пильнуйте.	And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.
Глава 14	Chapter 14

1	1
Через два дні мало бути свято Пасхи і опрісноків. І шукали первосвященики і книжники, як би взяти Його хитрощами і вбити.	Now after two days was the feast of the passover and the unleavened bread: and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him with subtlety, and kill him:

Але говорили: тільки не в свято, щоб не сталося заворушення в народі.	but they said, Not during the feast, lest haply there shall be a tumult of the people.
3	3
І коли Він був у Вифанії, в домі Симона прокаженого, і возлежав, — прийшла жінка з алавастровою посудиною мира з нарда чистого, дорогоцінного, і, розбивши посудину, злила Йому на голову.	And while he was in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster cruse of ointment of pure nard very costly; and she brake the cruse, and poured it over his head.

Деякі обурились і між собою говорили: навіщо така трата мира?	But there were some that had indignation among themselves, and saying, To what purpose hath this waste of the ointment been made?

Бо можна було б його продати більш як за триста динаріїв і роздати вбогим. І дорікали їй.	For this might have been sold for above three hundred denarii, and given to the poor. And they murmured against her.

Ісус же сказав: облиште її, навіщо її бентежите? Вона добре діло зробила для Мене.	But Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me.
7	7
Бо вбогих завжди маєте з собою і, коли захочете, можете їм добро робити; Мене ж не завжди маєте.	For ye have the poor always with you, and whensoever ye will ye can do them good: but me ye have not always.
8	8
Вона зробила, що могла: заздалегідь помазала Моє тіло на погребіння.	She hath done what she could; she hath anointed my body beforehand for the burying.
9	9
Істинно кажу вам: по всьому світу, де тільки буде проповідане це Євангеліє, буде сказано на спомин про неї і про те, що вона зробила.	Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, that also which this woman hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.

І пішов Іуда Іскаріотський, один з дванадцяти, до первосвящеників, щоб видати Його їм.	And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went away unto the chief priests, that he might deliver him unto them.

Вони ж, почувши, зраділи і пообіцяли дати йому срібників. І він шукав, як би в слушний час видати Його.	And they, when they heard it, were glad, and promised to give him money. And he sought how he might conveniently deliver him unto them.

У перший день опрісноків, коли готували пасхальне ягня, ученики сказали Йому: де хочеш їсти паску? Ми підемо і приготуємо.	And on the first day of unleavened bread, when they sacrificed the passover, his disciples say unto him, Where wilt thou that we go and make ready that thou mayest eat the passover?

І посилає двох з учеників Своїх, і каже їм: підіть до міста, і зустрінеться вам чоловік, який нестиме глек води; підіть за ним,	And he sendeth two of his disciples, and saith unto them, Go into the city, and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water: follow him;

і куди він увійде, скажіть господареві дому того, що Учитель каже — де світлиця, в якій Я споживатиму паску з Моїми учениками?	and wheresoever he shall enter in, say to the master of the house, The Teacher saith, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?

І він покаже вам велику, прибрану і готову горницю; там приготуйте нам.	And he will himself show you a large upper room furnished and ready: there make ready for us.
16	16
І пішли ученики Його, і прийшли до міста, і знайшли, як сказав їм; і приготували паску.	And his disciples went forth, and came into the city, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.
17	17
Як настав вечір, Він прийшов з дванадцятьма.	And when it was evening he cometh with the twelve.
18	18
І коли вони возлежали і їли, Ісус сказав: істинно кажу вам, один з вас, що їсть зі Мною, зрадить Мене.	And as they sat and were eating, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, One of you shall betray me, even he that eateth with me.
19	19
Вони засмутились і почали говорити Йому один за одним: чи не я? І інший: чи не я?	And they began to be sorrowful, and to say unto him one by one, Is it I? and another, Is it I?

Він же сказав їм у відповідь: один з дванадцяти, який умочає зі Мною в блюдо.	And he answered and said unto them, It is one of the twelve, he that dippeth with me in the dish.

Та Син Людський іде, як написано про Нього; але горе тій людині, якою Син Людський буде зраджений: краще було б не народитися людині тій.	The Son of man indeed goeth, even as it is written of him: but woe unto that man through whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had not been born.

І коли вони їли, Ісус узяв хліб, благословив, переламав, дав їм і сказав: прийміть, споживайте, це є Тіло Моє.	And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had blessed, he brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body.

І, взявши чашу та хвалу воздавши, подав їм; і пили з неї всі.	And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave to them: and they all drank of it.
24	24
І сказав їм: це є Кров Моя Нового Завіту, що за багатьох проливається.	And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for many.

Істинно кажу вам: Я вже не питиму від плоду виноградного до того дня, коли питиму нове вино в Царстві Божому.	Verily I say unto you, I shall no more drink of the fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.

І, проспівавши, пішли на гору Елеонську.	And when they had sung a hymn, they went out unto the mount of Olives.

І сказав їм Ісус: цієї ночі всі ви спокуситеся через Мене, бо написано: уражу пастиря, і розбіжаться вівці.	And Jesus saith unto them, All ye shall be offended: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered abroad.

По воскресінні ж Моїм буду раніше за вас у Галилеї.	Howbeit, after I am raised up, I will go before you into Galilee.

Петро сказав Йому: хоч і всі спокусяться, але не я.	But Peter said unto him, Although all shall be offended, yet will not I.

І говорить йому Ісус: істинно кажу тобі, що сьогодні, цієї ночі, раніше, ніж двічі проспіває півень, ти тричі зречешся Мене.	And Jesus saith unto him, Verily I say unto thee, that thou today, even in this night, before the cock crow twice, shalt deny me thrice.

Він же ще більше запевняв: хоч би мені належало і вмерти з Тобою, не зречуся Тебе. Так само і всі говорили.	But he spake exceeding vehemently, If I must die with thee, I will not deny thee. And in like manner also said they all.

Прийшли до місця, що зветься Гефсиманія; і Він сказав ученикам Своїм: посидьте тут, поки Я помолюся.	And they come unto a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith unto his disciples, Sit ye here, while I pray.

І взяв з Собою Петра, Якова та Іоана; і почав тужити й сумувати.	And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be greatly amazed, and sore troubled.

І сказав їм: сумна душа Моя смертельно; побудьте тут і пильнуйте.	And he saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful even unto death: abide ye here, and watch.

І, трохи відійшовши, впав на землю і молився, щоб, коли можливо, минула Його година ця.	And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass away from him.
36	36
І говорив: Авва, Отче! Все можливе для Тебе, пронеси мимо Мене чашу цю; та не чого Я хочу, а чого Ти.	And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; remove this cup from me: howbeit not what I will, but what thou wilt.

Повертається і знаходить їх сплячими, і каже Петрові: Симоне, чи ти спиш? Не міг ти пильнувати й однієї години?	And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest thou not watch one hour?

Пильнуйте і моліться, щоб не зазнати спокуси: дух бадьорий, плоть же немічна.	Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

І знову відійшов і молився, промовивши те саме слово.	And again he went away, and prayed, saying the same words.

І, повернувшись, знову знайшов їх сплячими; бо очі їхні обважніли, і вони не знали, що Йому відповідати.	And when he returned, he found them sleeping again, for their eyes were heavy; and they knew not what to answer him.

І прийшов утретє і каже їм: ви все ще спите і спочиваєте? Годі, прийшов час: Син Людський видається в руки грішників.	And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough; the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

Встаньте, підемо, ось наблизився той, хто видає Мене.	Arise, let us be going: behold, he that betrayeth me is at hand.

І зараз же, як Він ще говорив, прийшов Іуда, один з дванадцяти, і з ним багато народу з мечами та киями, від первосвящеників і книжників і старійшин.	And straightaway, while he yet spake, cometh Judas, being one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.

Зрадник же Його подав їм знак, сказавши: Кого я поцілую, Той і є; беріть Його і ведіть обережно.	Now he that betrayed him had given them a token, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that is he; take him, and lead him away safely.

І, прийшовши, відразу підійшов до Нього і каже: Учителю! Учителю! І поцілував Його.	And when he was come, straightaway he came to him, and saith unto him, Rabbi, Rabbi; and kissed him.
46	46
А вони наклали руки свої на Нього і взяли Його.	And they laid their hands on him, and took him.
47	47
Один же з тих, що стояли тут, вихопив меча та вдарив раба первосвященика і відсік йому вухо.	But a certain one of them that stood by drew his sword, and smote the servant of the high priest, and struck off his ear.
48	48
Тоді Ісус сказав їм: ніби на розбійника вийшли ви з мечами та киями, щоб Мене взяти.	And Jesus answered and said unto them, Are ye come out, as against a robber, with swords and staves to seize me?
49	49
Повсякдень Я бував з вами в храмі і навчав, і ви не брали Мене. Але нехай збудуться Писання.	I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not: but this is done that the scriptures might be fulfilled.
50	50
Тоді, залишивши Його, всі повтікали.	And they all left him, and fled.
51	51
Один юнак, загорнувшись покривалом на голе тіло, йшов слідом за Ним; і воїни схопили його.	And a certain young man followed him, having a linen cloth cast about him, over his naked body: and the young men lay hold on him;
52	52
Але він, покинувши покривало, голим утік від них.	but he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked.
53	53
І привели Ісуса до первосвященика; і зібрались до нього всі первосвященики, і книжники, і старійшини.	And they led Jesus away to the high priest: and there come together with him all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes.
54	54
Петро віддалік ішов слідом за Ним аж до середини двору первосвященика; і сидів зі слугами і грівся біля вогню.	And Peter had followed him afar off, even within, into the court of the high priest; and he was sitting with the officers, and warming himself in the light of the fire.
55	55
Первосвященики ж і весь синедріон шукали свідчення на Ісуса, щоб віддати Його на смерть; і не знаходили.	Now the chief priests and the whole council sought witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found it not.
56	56
Бо багато лжесвідчили на Нього, але ці свідчення не сходились.	For many bare false witness against him, and their witness agreed not together.
57	57
І деякі, вставши, лжесвідчили проти Нього і говорили:	And there stood up certain, and bare false witness against him, saying,
58	58
ми чули, як Він казав: Я зруйную храм цей рукотворний і через три дні зведу інший, нерукотворний.	We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and in three days I will build another made without hands.
59	59
Але й таке свідчення їхнє не сходилось.	And not even so did their witness agree together.
60	60
Тоді первосвященик став посередині і спитав Ісуса: чого ж Ти нічого не відповідаєш на те, що вони проти Тебе свідчать?	And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?
61	61
Він же мовчав і нічого не відповідав. Знову первосвященик спитав Його і сказав Йому: чи Ти Христос, Син Благословенного?	But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and saith unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?
62	62
Ісус сказав: Я! І ви побачите Сина Людського, Який сидить праворуч сили Божої і йде з хмарами небесними.	And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.

Тоді первосвященик, розірвавши одяг свій, сказав: для чого ще нам свідки?	And the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What further need have we of witnesses?
64	64
Ви чули богохульство? Як вам здається? Вони ж усі засудили Його до смерти.	Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be worthy of death.
65	65
І деякі почали плювати на Нього і, закриваючи Йому лице, бити Його і говорити Йому: проречи. І слуги били Його по щоках.	And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the officers did strike him with the palms of their hands.

Коли Петро був на подвір’ї внизу, прийшла одна із служниць первосвященика	And as Peter was in the court beneath, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest;
67	67
і, побачивши Петра, який грівся, та придивившись до нього, сказала: і ти був з Ісусом Назарянином.	and seeing Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and saith, Thou also wast with the Nazarene, even Jesus.

Але він відрікся, сказавши: не знаю і не розумію, що ти говориш. І вийшов геть на передній двір; і заспівав півень.	But he denied, saying, I know not, neither understand I what thou sayest: and he went out into the porch; and the cock crowed.
69	69
Служниця, побачивши його знову, почала говорити присутнім, що цей з них.	And the maid saw him again, and began to say to them that stood by, This is one of them.
70	70
Він знову відрікся. Трохи згодом присутні знову стали говорити Петрові: та й справді ти з них, бо ти галилеянин, і мова твоя схожа.	But he again denied it. And after a little while again they that stood by said to Peter, Of a truth thou art one of them; for thou art a Galilean, and thy speech is alike.

Він же почав божитися і клястися: не знаю Чоловіка Цього, про Якого говорите.	But he began to curse, and to swear, I know not this man of whom ye speak.

Тоді вдруге заспівав півень. І згадав Петро слово, сказане йому Ісусом: перше ніж двічі проспіває півень, ти тричі відречешся від Мене, і почав плакати.	And the second time the cock crowed. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept.
Глава 15	Chapter 15

1	1
Рано-вранці первосвященики зі старійшинами та книжниками і весь синедріон негайно зібрали раду і, зв’язавши Ісуса, відвели і видали Пилатові.	And straightaway in the morning the chief priests with the elders and scribes, and the whole council, held a consultation, and bound Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered him up to Pilate.

Пилат спитав Його: Ти Цар Юдейський? Він же сказав йому у відповідь: ти говориш.	And Pilate asked him, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered and said unto him, Thou sayest.
3	3
І первосвященики звинувачували Його багато в чому.	And the chief priests accused him of many things.
4	4
Пилат же знову спитав Його: Ти нічого не відповідаєш, бачиш, як багато звинувачень проти Тебе?	And Pilate again asked him, saying, Answerest thou nothing? behold how many things they witness against thee.
5	5
Але Ісус і на це нічого не відповів, так що Пилат дивувався.	But Jesus no more answered anything; insomuch that Pilate marveled.
6	6
На всяке ж свято він відпускав їм одного в’язня, за якого вони просили.	Now at the feast he used to release unto them one prisoner, whomsoever they asked of him.
7	7
Тоді був у темниці один на ім’я Варавва, із своїми спільниками, які під час бунту вчинили вбивство.	And there was one called Barabbas, lying bound with them that had made insurrection with him, men who in the insurrection had committed murder.
8	8
І народ почав кричати і просити Пилата про те, що він завжди робив для них.	And the multitude cried out and began to ask him to do unto them as he had always done.
9	9
Він сказав їм у відповідь: чи хочете, відпущу вам Царя Юдейського?	And Pilate answered them, saying, Will ye that I release unto you the King of the Jews?
10	10
Бо знав, що це через заздрість видали Його первосвященики.	For he perceived that for envy the chief priests had delivered him up.
11	11
Та первосвященики підмовили народ просити, щоб краще відпустив їм Варавву.	But the chief priests stirred up the multitude, that he should rather release Barabbas unto them.
12	12
Пилат же знову сказав їм у відповідь: що ж хочете, щоб я зробив з Тим, Кого ви називаєте Царем Юдейським?	And Pilate answered and said again unto them, What will ye then that I shall do unto him whom ye call King of the Jews?
13	13
Вони знову закричали: розіпни Його.	And they cried out again, Crucify him.
14	14
Пилат сказав їм: яке ж зло зробив Він? Вони ж ще дужче закричали: розіпни Його!	And Pilate said unto them, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more exceedingly, Crucify him.
15	15
Тоді Пилат, бажаючи догодити народові, відпустив їм Варавву, а Ісуса, бивши, віддав на розп’яття.	And Pilate, wishing to content the multitude, released unto them Barabbas, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified.
16	16
Воїни відвели Його всередину двору, тобто в преторію, і зібрали весь полк,	And the soldiers led him away within the court, which is the Praetorium; and they call together the whole band.
17	17
і одягли Його в багряницю та, сплівши терновий вінець, поклали на Нього;	And they clothe him with purple, and plaiting a crown of thorns, they put it on him;
18	18
і почали вітати Його: радуйся, Царю Юдейський!	and they began to salute him, Hail, King of the Jews!
19	19
І били Його по голові тростиною, і плювали на Нього та, ставши на коліна, кланялися Йому.	And they smote his head with a reed, and spat upon him, and bowing their knees worshiped him.
20	20
Коли ж наглумилися з Нього, зняли з Нього багряницю, одягли Його у власний одяг і повели Його, щоб розіп’яти.	And when they had mocked him, they took off from him the purple, and put on him his own garments. And they lead him out to crucify him.
21	21
І примусили одного перехожого, який ішов з поля, якогось киринеянина Симона, батька Олександра і Руфа, нести хрест Його.	And they compel one passing by, Simon of Cyrene, coming from the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to go with them, that he might bear his cross.
22	22
І привели Його на місце Голгофу, що означає Лобне місце.	And they bring him unto the place Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, The place of a skull.
23	23
І давали Йому пити вино зі смирною; але Він не прийняв.	And they gave him wine to drink mingled with myrrh: but he received it not.
24	24
Ті, що розпинали Його, поділили одяг Його, кидаючи жереб, кому що взяти.	And when they had crucified him, they part his garments among them, casting lots upon them, what each should take.
25	25
Була третя година, і розіп’яли Його.	And it was the third hour, and they crucified him.
26	26
І був напис провини Його: Цар Юдейський.	And the superscription of his accusation was written above, THE KING OF THE JEWS.
27	27
З Ним розіп’яли двох розбійників, одного праворуч, а другого ліворуч Нього.	And with him they crucify two robbers; one on his right hand, and one on his left.
28	28
І збулося Писання, яке говорить: і до злочинців приєднаний.	And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was reckoned with transgressors
29	29
Ті, що проходили, лихословили на Нього, киваючи головами своїми і кажучи: гей! Ти, Який руйнуєш храм і за три дні створюєш!	And they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads, and saying, Ha! thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days,
30	30
Спаси Себе Самого і зійди з хреста.	save thyself, and come down from the cross.
31	31
Так само і первосвященики з книжниками, глузуючи, говорили один одному: інших спасав, а Себе не може спасти!	In like manner also the chief priests mocking him among themselves with the scribes said, He saved others; himself he cannot save.
32	32
Христос, Цар Ізраїлів, нехай тепер зійде з хреста, щоб ми бачили, і увіруємо. І розп’яті з Ним ганьбили Його.	Let the Christ, the King of Israel, now come down from the cross, that we may see and believe. And they that were crucified with him reproached him.
33	33
О шостій же годині настала темрява по всій землі і тривала до дев’ятої години.	And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.
34	34
О дев’ятій годині Ісус викрикнув гучним голосом: Елоі! Елоі! Лама савахфані? — що значить: Боже Мій! Боже Мій! Навіщо Ти Мене покинув?	And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lima sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

Деякі з тих, що там стояли, почувши те, говорили: Він Іллю кличе.	And some of them that stood by, when they heard it, said, Behold, he calleth Elijah.
36	36
А один побіг, намочив губку оцтом і, настромивши на тростину, давав Йому пити, кажучи: стривайте, побачимо, чи прийде Ілля зняти Його.	And one ran, and filled a sponge full of vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink, saying, Let be; let us see whether Elijah cometh to take him down.

Ісус же, скрикнувши гучним голосом, спустив дух.	And Jesus uttered a loud voice, and gave up the ghost.
38	38
І завіса в храмі роздерлася надвоє, зверху донизу.	And the veil of the temple was rent in two from the top to the bottom.
39	39
Сотник, який стояв навпроти Нього, побачивши, як Він, так скрикнувши, віддав дух, сказав: воістину Чоловік Цей був Син Божий.	And when the centurion, who stood by over against him, saw that he so cried out, and gave up the ghost, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God.
40	40
Були тут і жінки, які дивилися здалеку; між ними були і Марія Магдалина, і Марія, мати Якова молодшого та Іосії, і Саломія,	And there were also women beholding from afar: among whom were both Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome;
41	41
які і тоді, коли Він був у Галилеї, ходили за Ним і служили Йому, і багато інших, які разом з Ним прийшли до Єрусалима.	who also, when he was in Galilee, followed him, and ministered unto him; and many other women that came up with him unto Jerusalem.
42	42
І настав уже вечір [бо була п’ятниця, тобто день перед суботою].	And when even was now come, because it was the Preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath,

Прийшов Йосиф із Аримафеї, поважний радник, який і сам чекав Царства Божого, і насмілився прийти до Пилата просити тіло Ісусове.	there came Joseph of Arimathea, a councilor of honorable estate, who also himself was looking for the kingdom of God; and he boldly went in unto Pilate, and asked for the body of Jesus.

Пилат здивувався, що Він уже помер, і, покликавши сотника, спитав його, чи давно помер.	And Pilate wondered if he were already dead: and calling unto him the centurion, he asked him whether he had been any while dead.
45	45
І, довідавшись від сотника, віддав тіло Йосифові.	And when he learned it of the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph.
46	46
Він, купивши плащаницю і знявши Його, оповив плащаницею і поклав Його у гробі, витесаному в скелі, і привалив камінь до дверей гробу.	And he bought a linen cloth, and taking him down, wound him in the linen cloth, and laid him in a tomb which had been hewn out of a rock; and he rolled a stone against the door of the tomb.

Марія ж Магдалина і Марія Іосієва дивились, де Його поклали.	And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses beheld where he was laid.
Глава 16	Chapter 16

1	1
Як минула субота, Марія Магдалина, Марія Яковова і Саломія купили пахощі, щоб піти помазати Ісуса.	And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spices, that they might come and anoint him.
2	2
І дуже рано, в перший день після суботи, прийшли до гробу, як сходило сонце.	And very early on the first day of the week, they come to the tomb when the sun was risen.
3	3
І говорять між собою: хто відвалить нам камінь від дверей гробу?	And they were saying among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the tomb?
4	4
І, глянувши, побачили, що камінь відвалений; а він був дуже великий.	and looking up, they see that the stone is rolled away for it was exceeding great.
5	5
І, увійшовши у гріб, побачили юнака, який сидів праворуч і був одягнений у білу одежу; і вжахнулися.	And entering into the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, arrayed in a white robe; and they were amazed.
6	6
А він каже їм: не жахайтеся. Ісуса шукаєте Назарянина, розп’ятого. Він воскрес — Його нема тут. Ось місце, де поклали Його.	And he saith unto them, Be not amazed: ye seek Jesus, the Nazarene, who hath been crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold, the place where they laid him!

Але йдіть, скажіть ученикам Його і Петрові, що Він буде раніше за вас у Галилеї; там Його побачите, як Він сказав вам.	But go, tell his disciples and Peter, He goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you.
8	8
І, вийшовши, вони побігли від гробу. Охопив їх трепет і жах. І нікому нічого не сказали, бо боялися.	And they went out, and fled from the tomb; and trembling and astonishment had come upon them: and they said nothing to anyone; for they were afraid.
9	9
Ісус же, воскреснувши вранці в перший після суботи день, насамперед явився Марії Магдалині, з якої вигнав сім бісів.	Now when he was risen early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom he had cast out seven demons.
10	10
Вона пішла і сповістила тих, які були з Ним, що плакали і ридали.	She went and told them that had been with him, as they mourned and wept.
11	11
Та вони, почувши, що Він живий і що вона бачила Його, — не повірили.	And they, when they heard that he was alive, and had been seen of her, disbelieved.
12	12
Після цього явився в іншому образі двом з них на дорозі, коли вони йшли до села.	And after these things he was manifested in another form unto two of them, as they walked, on their way into the country.
13	13
І ті, повернувшись, сповістили іншим; але й тим не повірили.	And they went away and told it unto the rest: neither believed they them.
14	14
Нарешті Він явився самим одинадцятьом, коли вони возлежали на вечері, і дорікав їм за невір’я і жорстокосердість, що не повірили тим, які бачили Його воскреслим.	Afterward he was manifested unto the eleven themselves as they sat at meat; and he upbraided them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them that had seen him after he was risen.
15	15
І сказав їм: ідіть по всьому світу і проповідуйте Євангеліє всьому творінню.	And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to the whole creation.
16	16
Хто увірує і охреститься, буде спасенний, а хто не увірує, буде осуджений.	He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that disbelieveth shall be condemned.
17	17
Віруючих супроводжуватимуть такі знамення: іменем Моїм виганятимуть бісів; говоритимуть новими мовами,	And these signs shall accompany them that believe: in my name shall they cast out demons; they shall speak with new tongues;
18	18
братимуть змій; і якщо смертоносне щось вип’ють, не пошкодить їм; покладуть руки на недужих, і вони будуть здорові.	they shall take up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall in no wise hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
19	19
Господь же, після розмови з ними, вознісся на небо і сів праворуч Бога.	So then the Lord, after he had spoken unto them, was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God.
20	20
Вони ж пішли і всюди проповідували, а Господь допомагав їм і стверджував слово наступними знаменнями. Амінь.	And they went forth, and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word by the signs that followed. Amen.
