Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.

Йосиф же, чоловік Її, будучи праведним і не бажаючи ославити Її, хотів потай відпустити Її.	And Joseph her husband, being a righteous man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily.

Та щойно він помислив це, як ось ангел Господній з’явився йому уві сні, промовляючи: Йосифе, сину Давидів! Не бійся прийняти Марію, жону твою, бо зачате в Ній є від Духа Святого.	But when he thought on these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.

Народить же Вона Сина, і наречеш Йому ім’я Ісус, бо Він спасе людей Своїх від гріхів їхніх.	And she shall bring forth a son; and thou shalt call his name JESUS; for it is he that shall save his people from their sins.

Це ж усе сталося, щоб збулося сказане Господом через пророка, який говорить:	Now all this is come to pass, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying,

ось Діва в утробі прийме й народить Сина, і наречуть ім’я Йому Еммануїл, що означає: з нами Бог.	Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, And they shall call his name Immanuel; which is, being interpreted, God with us.

Прокинувшись, Йосиф зробив, як звелів йому ангел Господній, і прийняв жону свою.	And Joseph arose from his sleep, and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took unto him his wife;

І не знав Її, поки й породила Сина Свого первістка, і він нарік ім’я Йому: Ісус.	and knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.
Глава 2	Chapter 2

1	1
Коли ж Ісус народився у Вифлеємі Юдейському у дні царя Ірода, волхви^* зі сходу прийшли до Єрусалима, кажучи:	Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem,

де є народжений Цар Юдейський? Бо ми бачили зірку Його на сході і прийшли поклонитися Йому.	saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we saw his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
3	3
Почувши це, Ірод цар стривожився, й увесь Єрусалим з ним.	And when Herod the king heard it, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
4	4
І, зібравши всіх первосвящеників і книжників народних, питав у них: де мав би народитися Христос?	And gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ should be born.

Вони ж сказали йому: у Вифлеємі юдейському, бо так написано пророком:	And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judea: for thus it is written through the prophet,
6	6
і ти, Вифлеєме, земле Іудина, нічим не менший від інших володінь Іудиних; бо з тебе вийде Вождь, Який упасе народ Мій, Ізраїля.	And thou Bethlehem, land of Judah, Art in no wise least among the princes of Judah: For out of thee shall come forth a governor, Who shall be shepherd of my people Israel.

Тоді Ірод, потайки покликавши волхвів, вивідав від них час з’явлення зірки	Then Herod privily called the wise men, and learned of them exactly what time the star appeared.

і пославши їх до Вифлеєма, сказав: підіть, старанно розвідайте про Немовля і, коли знайдете, сповістіть мене, щоб і мені піти поклонитися Йому.	And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search out exactly concerning the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word, that I also may come and worship him.

Вони, вислухавши царя, пішли. І ось зірка, яку бачили вони на сході, йшла перед ними, аж поки, нарешті, прийшла і зупинилась над місцем, де було Немовля.	And they, having heard the king, went their way; and lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.

Побачивши зірку, вони зраділи радістю вельми великою.	And when they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.

І, увійшовши в дім, побачили Немовля з Марією, Матір’ю Його, і, впавши, поклонилися Йому; і, відкривши скарби свої, принесли Йому дари: золото, ладан і смирну^*.	And they came into the house and saw the young child with Mary his mother; and they fell down and worshiped him; and opening their treasures they offered unto him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.

І, одержавши уві сні одкровення не повертатися до Ірода, іншою дорогою відійшли до країни своєї.	And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.
13	13
Коли ж вони відійшли, то ангел Господній уві сні з’явився Йосифові, говорячи: устань, візьми Немовля і Матір Його та біжи в Єгипет і будь там, доки не скажу тобі, бо хоче Ірод шукати Немовля, щоб погубити Його.	Now when they were departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I tell thee: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.

Він же, вставши, узяв Немовля і Матір Його вночі та й пішов у Єгипет	And he arose and took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt;
15	15
і був там до смерти Іродової, щоб збулося сказане Господом через пророка, який говорить: з Єгипту покликав Я Сина Мого.	and was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt did I call my son.

Тоді Ірод, побачивши себе осміяним волхвами, дуже розгнівався і послав повбивати усіх немовлят у Вифлеємі і в усіх околицях його, — від двох років і менше — за часом, про який вивідав у волхвів.	Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the male children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the borders thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had exactly learned of the wise men.

Тоді збулося сказане через пророка Єремію, який говорить:	Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying,

голос в Рамі чути, плач і ридання та голосіння велике; Рахиль плаче за дітьми своїми і не хоче втішитися, бо нема їх.	A voice was heard in Ramah, Lamentation and weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children; And she would not be comforted, because they are not.

Як помер Ірод, то ангел Господній уві сні з’явився Йосифові в Єгипті	But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,

і говорить: устань, візьми Немовля і Матір Його та йди в землю Ізраїлеву, бо вже померли ті, що шукали душу Немовляти.	saying, Arise and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead that sought the young child’s life.
21	21
Він же, вставши, узяв Немовля і Матір Його і прийшов у землю Ізраїлеву.	And he arose and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.
22	22
Почувши ж, що Архелай царює в Юдеї замість Ірода, батька свого, побоявся йти туди; а, одержавши уві сні одкровення, пішов у землю Галилейську.	But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither; and being warned of God in a dream, he withdrew into the parts of Galilee,

І, прийшовши, оселився в місті, яке зветься Назарет, щоб збулося сказане через пророків, що Він Назореєм наречеться.	and came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophets, that he should be called a Nazarene.
Глава 3	Chapter 3

1	1
У ті дні приходить Іоан Хреститель і проповідує в пустелі Юдейській,	And in those days cometh John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judea,
2	2
і каже: покайтеся, наблизилось бо Царство Небесне.	and saying, Repent ye; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Бо Він є Той, про Якого сказав пророк Ісая: глас вопіющого в пустелі: приготуйте путь Господеві, прямими зробіть стезі Йому.	For this is he that was spoken of by Isaiah the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ye ready the way of the Lord, Make his paths straight.

Сам же Іоан мав одяг з верблюжого волоса і пояс шкіряний на стегнах своїх, а їжею його були акриди^* та мед дикий.	Now John himself had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his food was locusts and wild honey.

Тоді виходили до нього Єрусалим, і вся Юдея, і вся околиця Йорданська;	Then went out unto him Jerusalem, and all Judea, and all the region round about the Jordan;

І хрестилися в Йордані від нього, сповідаючи гріхи свої.	and they were baptized of him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.
7	7
А побачивши багато фарисеїв і саддукеїв, що йшли до нього хреститися, Іоан сказав їм: поріддя єхиднове! Хто навчив вас тікати від грядущого гніву?	But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said unto them, Ye offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

Створіть же плід, достойний покаяння.	Bring forth therefore fruit worthy of repentance:
9	9
І не починайте говорити в собі: отця маємо Авраама. Кажу бо вам, що Бог може з каміння цього звести дітей Авраамові. Вже й сокира біля кореня дерева лежить:	and think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

бо всяке дерево, що не приносить доброго плоду, рубають і кидають в огонь.	And even now the axe lieth at the root of the trees: every tree therefore that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
11	11
Я хрещу вас водою на покаяння, але Той, Хто гряде після мене, Сильніший за мене; я недостойний понести взуття Його; Він хреститиме вас Духом Святим і вогнем;	I indeed baptize you in water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you in the Holy Spirit:

Його лопата^* в руці у Нього, і Він очистить тік Свій і збере пшеницю Свою в житницю, а полову спалить вогнем невгасимим.	whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor; and he will gather his wheat into the garner, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.

Тоді приходить Ісус з Галилеї на Йордан до Іоана хреститися від нього.	Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to the Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
14	14
Іоан же стримував Його і говорив: мені треба хреститися від Тебе, і чи Тобі приходити до мене?	But John would have hindered him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
15	15
Але Ісус сказав йому у відповідь: облиш нині, бо так належить нам виконати всяку правду. Тоді Іоан допускає Його.	But Jesus answered and said unto him, Suffer it now: for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness. Then he suffereth him.
16	16
І, охрестившись, Ісус вийшов зразу ж з води, — і ось розкрилися Йому небеса, і побачив Іоан Духа Божого, Який сходив, мов голуб, і спускався на Нього.	And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightaway from the water: and lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming upon him;

І ось голос лунає з неба, який говорить: Це є Син Мій Улюблений, в Ньому Моє благовоління.	and lo, a voice out of the heavens, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Глава 4	Chapter 4

1	1
Тоді Ісус виведений був Духом у пустелю, щоб спокушав Його диявол.	Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
2	2
І постився сорок днів і сорок ночей, наостанку зголоднів.	And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he afterward hungered.
3	3
І, приступивши до Нього, спокусник сказав: якщо Ти Син Божий, скажи, щоб каміння це хлібами стало.	And the tempter came to him and said, If thou art the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.
4	4
Він же сказав йому у відповідь: написано: не хлібом єдиним житиме людина, але всяким словом, що виходить з уст Божих.	But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
5	5
Тоді узяв Його диявол до святого міста і поставив Його на крилі храму,	Then the devil taketh him into the holy city, and setteth him on the pinnacle of the temple,
6	6
та й каже Йому: якщо Ти є Син Божий, кинься вниз, бо написано: ангелам Своїм заповість про Тебе, щоб оберігали Тебе, і на руки візьмуть Тебе, щоб не спіткнувся об камінь ногою Твоєю.	and saith unto him, If thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and, On their hands they shall bear thee up, Lest haply thou dash thy foot against a stone.

Сказав же йому Ісус: написано також: не спокушай Господа Бога твого.	Jesus said unto him, Again it is written, Thou shalt not make trial of the Lord thy God.
8	8
Знову бере Його диявол на дуже високу гору і показує Йому всі царства світу і славу їхню,	Again, the devil taketh him unto an exceeding high mountain, and showeth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
9	9
та й говорить Йому: це все Тобі дам, якщо, впавши, поклонишся мені.	and he saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
10	10
Тоді Ісус говорить йому: відійди від Мене, сатано, бо написано: Господу Богу твоєму поклоняйся і Йому Єдиному служи.	Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

Тоді залишив Його диявол, і ось ангели приступили й служили Йому.	Then the devil leaveth him; and behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

Коли ж почув Ісус, що Іоан відданий під варту, пішов до Галилеї.	Now when Jesus heard that John was delivered up, he withdrew into Galilee;

І, залишивши Назарет, прийшов і оселився в Капернаумі приморському, в краях Завулонових і Неффалимових,	and leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the borders of Zebulun and Naphtali:

щоб збулося сказане пророком Ісаєю, який говорить:	that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying,
15	15
земле Завулонова і земле Неффалимова, за Йорданом на шляху приморському, Галилеє язичників.	The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, Toward the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles,

Народ, що сидів у темряві, побачив світло велике, і тим, що перебувають у країні й тіні смерти, світло засяяло їм.	The people that sat in darkness Saw a great light, And to them that sat in the region and shadow of death, To them did light spring up.
17	17
Відтоді почав Ісус проповідувати й говорити: покайтеся, наблизилося бо Царство Небесне.	From that time began Jesus to preach, and to say, Repent ye; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Проходячи ж біля моря Галилейського, Він побачив двох братів: Симона, що звався Петром, і Андрія, брата його, які закидали сіті в море, бо вони були рибалками.	And walking by the sea of Galilee, he saw two brethren, Simon who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishers.

Та й каже їм: ідіть за Мною, і зроблю вас ловцями людей.	And he saith unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you fishers of men.
20	20
І вони зараз же, покинувши сіті, пішли за Ним.	And they straightaway left the nets, and followed him.
21	21
І, відійшовши звідтіля, побачив інших двох братів: Якова Зеведеєвого та Іоана, брата його, у човні із Зеведеєм, батьком їхнім, які лагодили сіті свої, і покликав їх.	And going on from thence he saw two other brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them.

Вони, одразу ж покинувши човен і батька свого, пішли за Ним.	And they straightaway left the boat and their father, and followed him.

І ходив Ісус по всій Галилеї, навчаючи в синагогах їхніх і проповідуючи Євангеліє Царства, зціляючи всяку недугу і всяку неміч у людях.	And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of disease and all manner of sickness among the people.

І розійшлася чутка про Нього по всій Сирії; і приводили до Нього всіх немічних, хворих на всілякі недуги, й одержимих, і біснуватих, і сновид, і розслаблених — і Він зціляв їх.	And the report of him went forth into all Syria: and they brought unto him all that were sick, holden with diverse diseases and torments, and possessed with demons, and epileptic, and palsied; and he healed them.

І йшло за Ним багато народу з Галилеї, і з Десятиграддя, і з Єрусалима, і з Юдеї, і з іншого боку Йордана.	And there followed him great multitudes from Galilee and Decapolis and Jerusalem and Judea and from beyond the Jordan.
Глава 5	Chapter 5

1	1
Побачивши народ, Він зійшов на гору; і, коли сів, приступили до Нього ученики Його.	And seeing the multitudes, he went up into the mountain: and when he had sat down, his disciples came unto him:
2	2
І, відкривши уста Свої, навчав їх, промовляючи:	and he opened his mouth and taught them, saying,

Блаженні убогі духом, бо їхнє є Царство Небесне.	Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4	4
Блаженні ті, що плачуть, бо вони втішаться.	Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
5	5
Блаженні лагідні, бо вони успадкують землю.	Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
6	6
Блаженні голодні і спраглі правди, бо вони наситяться.	Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
7	7
Блаженні милостиві, бо вони помилувані будуть.	Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
8	8
Блаженні чисті серцем, бо вони Бога побачать.	Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
9	9
Блаженні миротворці, бо вони синами Божими назвуться.	Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called sons of God.
10	10
Блаженні гнані за правду, бо їхнє є Царство Небесне.	Blessed are they that have been persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Блаженні ви, коли ганьбитимуть вас і гнатимуть, і зводитимуть на вас усяке лихослів’я та наклепи — Мене ради.	Blessed are ye when men shall reproach you, and persecute you, and say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12	12
Радуйтесь і веселіться, бо велика нагорода ваша на небесах. Так гнали і пророків, які були до вас.	Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets that were before you.
13	13
Ви — сіль землі. Якщо ж сіль втратить силу, то чим зробиш її солоною? Вона вже ні до чого не придатна, хіба що бути викинутою геть на потоптання людям.	Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost its savor, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out and trodden under foot of men.

Ви — світло світу. Не може сховатися місто, яке стоїть на верху гори.	Ye are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.
15	15
І не запалюють світильник, щоб поставити його під посудину, але на свічник, — і світить всім у домі.	Neither do men light a lamp, and put it under the bushel, but on the stand; and it shineth unto all that are in the house.
16	16
Так нехай сяє світло ваше перед людьми, щоб вони бачили ваші добрі діла і прославляли Отця вашого Небесного.	Even so let your light shine before men; that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
17	17
Не думайте, що Я прийшов порушити Закон або Пророків: не порушити прийшов Я, а виконати.	Think not that I came to destroy the law or the prophets: I came not to destroy, but to fulfill.
18	18
Бо істинно кажу вам: доки існуватимуть небо і земля, жодна йота чи жодна риска не перейде із закону, поки не здійсниться все.	For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass away from the law, till all things be accomplished.
19	19
Отже, якщо хто порушить одну з цих заповідей найменших і навчить того людей, той найменшим назветься в Царстві Небесному; а хто виконає і навчить, той великим назветься в Царстві Небесному.	Whosoever therefore shall break one of the least of these commandments, and shall teach men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Кажу бо вам, якщо праведність ваша не перевершить праведности книжників і фарисеїв, то ви не ввійдете до Царства Небесного.	For I say unto you, that except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no wise enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Ви чули, що було сказано древнім: не вбивай, а хто уб’є, підлягає суду.	Ye have heard that it was said to them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:

Я ж кажу вам, що всякий, хто гнівається на брата свого даремно, підлягає суду; а хто скаже на брата свого: «рака»^, підлягає синедріону^; а хто скаже: «потвора», підлягає геєні вогненній.	but I say unto you, that everyone who is angry with his brother without cause shall be in danger of the judgment; and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council; and whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of the hell of fire.

Отже, коли ти принесеш дар твій до жертовника і там згадаєш, що брат твій має щось проти тебе,	If therefore thou art offering thy gift at the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath aught against thee,

залиш там дар твій перед жертовником і піди перше помирися з братом твоїм, і тоді прийди й принеси дар твій.	leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way, first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
25	25
Мирися з суперником твоїм швидко, доки ти в дорозі з ним, щоб суперник не віддав тебе судді, а суддя не віддав би тебе слузі, і не вкинули б тебе у в’язницю.	Agree with thine adversary quickly, while thou art in the way with him; lest haply the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.

Істинно кажу тобі: ти не вийдеш звідти, поки не віддаси останній кодрант^*.	Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou have paid the last penny.

Ви чули, що було сказано древнім: не чини перелюбу.	Ye have heard that it was said, Thou shalt not commit adultery:

А Я кажу вам, що всякий, хто погляне на жінку, жадаючи її, вже вчинив перелюб з нею в серці своєму.	but I say unto you, that everyone that looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

Якщо ж праве око твоє спокушає тебе, вирви його і кинь від себе, бо краще для тебе, щоб загинув один з членів твоїх, аніж щоб усе тіло твоє було ввергнуте в геєну вогненну.	And if thy right eye causeth thee to stumble, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not thy whole body be cast into hell.

І коли правиця твоя спокушає тебе, відсічи її та кинь від себе: бо краще для тебе, щоб загинув один з членів твоїх, аніж щоб усе тіло твоє було ввергнуте в геєну.	And if thy right hand causeth thee to stumble, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not thy whole body be cast into hell.

Сказано також: коли хто розводиться з жінкою своєю, нехай дасть їй лист про розлучення.	It was said also, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:

А Я кажу вам: хто розведеться з жінкою своєю, хіба що через її любодійство, призводить її до перелюбства, і хто візьме шлюб з розлученою, той перелюбствує.	but I say unto you, that whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, maketh her an adulteress: and whosoever shall marry her when she is put away committeth adultery.

Ще чули ви, що було сказано древнім: не клянися неправдиво, а виконуй перед Господом клятви твої.	Again, ye have heard that it was said to them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:

А Я кажу вам — не клястися зовсім: ні небом, бо воно є престолом Божим;	but I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by the heaven, for it is the throne of God;

ні землею, бо вона є підніжжям ніг Його; ні Єрусалимом, бо це місто великого Царя.	nor by the earth, for it is the footstool of his feet; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.
36	36
І головою твоєю не клянися, бо не можеш жодної волосини білою або чорною зробити.	Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, for thou canst not make one hair white or black.
37	37
Нехай буде слово ваше: так — так; ні — ні, а що зверх цього, те від лукавого.	But let your speech be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: and whatsoever is more than these is of the evil one.

Ви чули, що було сказано: око за око і зуб за зуб.	Ye have heard that it was said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:

А Я кажу вам не противитися злу. Але якщо тебе хто вдарить у праву твою щоку, підстав йому і другу.	but I say unto you, Resist not him that is evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

І тому, хто захоче судитися з тобою і верхній одяг твій взяти, віддай йому і сорочку.	And if any man would go to law with thee, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.
41	41
І хто примусить тебе іти з ним одне поприще, іди з ним два.	And whosoever shall compel thee to go one mile, go with him two.
42	42
Тому, хто просить у тебе, дай; і від того, хто хоче в тебе позичити, не відвертайся.	Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.

Ви чули, що було сказано: люби ближнього твого і ненавидь ворога твого.	Ye have heard that it was said, Thou shalt love thy neighbor, and hate thine enemy:

А Я кажу вам: любіть ворогів ваших, благословляйте тих, хто проклинає вас, добро творіть тим, хто ненавидить вас, і моліться за тих, хто кривдить і гонить вас,	but I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them that despitefully use you and persecute you;

щоб ви були синами Отця вашого Небесного, бо Він сонцем Своїм осяває злих і добрих і посилає дощ на праведних і на неправедних.	that ye may be sons of your Father who is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sendeth rain on the just and the unjust.

Бо коли ви любите тих, хто любить вас, яка вам нагорода? Чи не те саме і митарі роблять?	For if ye love them that love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
47	47
І коли ви вітаєте тільки друзів ваших, що особливого робите? Чи не так само і язичники чинять?	And if ye salute your friends only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?

Отже, будьте досконалі, як Отець ваш Небесний досконалий.	Ye therefore shall be perfect, even as your Father who is in heaven is perfect.
Глава 6	Chapter 6

1	1
Стережіться, не творіть милостині вашої перед людьми для того, щоб вони бачили вас: інакше не буде вам нагороди від Отця вашого Небесного.	Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: else ye have no reward with your Father who is in heaven.
2	2
Отже, коли твориш милостиню, не сурми перед собою, як роблять лицеміри в синагогах і на вулицях, щоб прославляли їх люди. Істинно кажу вам: вони вже мають нагороду свою.	When therefore thou doest alms, sound not a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have received their reward.

У тебе ж, як твориш милостиню, нехай ліва рука твоя не знає, що робить правиця твоя,	But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
4	4
щоб милостиня твоя була потаємною; і Отець твій, Який бачить таємне, воздасть тобі явно.	that thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father who seeth in secret himself shall recompense thee openly.
5	5
І, коли молишся, не будь як лицеміри, які люблять молитися у синагогах і на перехрестях, зупиняючись, щоб бачили їх люди. Істинно кажу вам: вони вже мають нагороду свою.	And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites: for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have received their reward.

Ти ж, коли молишся, увійди до кімнати твоєї і, зачинивши двері твої, помолись Отцю твоєму, Який у таїні, і Отець твій, Який бачить таємне, воздасть тобі явно.	But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thine inner chamber, and having shut thy door, pray to thy Father who is in secret, and thy Father who seeth in secret shall recompense thee openly.

А молячись, не говоріть зайвого, як язичники, бо вони думають, що в багатослів’ї своєму почуті будуть.	And in praying use not vain repetitions, as the Gentiles do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

Не уподібнюйтесь їм, бо знає Отець ваш, чого ви потребуєте, раніше за ваше прохання до Нього.	Be not therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
9	9
Моліться ж так: Отче наш, що єси на небесах, нехай святиться ім’я Твоє;	After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10	10
нехай прийде Царство Твоє; нехай буде воля Твоя, як на небі, так і на землі.	Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, As in heaven, so on the earth.
11	11
Хліб наш насущний дай нам сьогодні;	Give us this day our daily bread.
12	12
І прости нам провини наші, як і ми прощаємо винуватцям нашим;	And forgive us our debts, As we also forgive our debtors.
13	13
І не введи нас у спокусу, але визволи нас від лукавого. Бо Твоє є Царство, і сила, і слава навіки. Амінь.	And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
14	14
Бо якщо ви прощатимете людям провини їхні, то простить і вам Отець ваш Небесний.	For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
15	15
А коли не будете прощати людям провин їхніх, то і Отець ваш не простить вам провин ваших.	But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
16	16
Коли ж постите, не будьте сумні, як лицеміри, бо вони потьмарюють обличчя свої, щоб показати людям, що постять вони. Істинно кажу вам: вони вже мають нагороду свою.	Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may be seen of men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have received their reward.

Ти ж, коли постиш, намасти голову твою і вмий обличчя твоє,	But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thy head, and wash thy face;
18	18
щоб не показувати людям, що ти постиш, але Отцю твоєму, — Який у таїні; і Отець твій, Який бачить таємне, воздасть тобі явно.	that thou be not seen of men to fast, but of thy Father who is in secret: and thy Father who seeth in secret shall recompense thee.
19	19
Не збирайте собі скарбів на землі, де черв і тля точать і де злодії підкопують і крадуть.	Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal:
20	20
Збирайте ж собі скарби на небі, де ні черв, ні тля не точать і де злодії не підкопують і не крадуть,	but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth consume, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
21	21
бо де скарб ваш, там буде й серце ваше.	for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
22	22
Світильником тіла є око. Отже, якщо око твоє буде чистим, то і все тіло твоє буде світлим;	The lamp of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
23	23
коли ж око твоє буде нечистим, то і все тіло твоє темним буде. Отже, якщо світло, що в тобі, є темрявою, то яка ж тоді темрява?	But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is the darkness!
24	24
Ніхто не може двом господарям служити: бо або одного полюбить, а другого буде ненавидіти; або одного триматиметься, а другим знехтує. Не можете служити Богові й мамоні^*.	No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
25	25
Задля цього кажу вам: не піклуйтеся для душі вашої, що вам їсти чи пити, ні для тіла вашого, у що вдягнутися. Чи душа не більша за їжу, а тіло — за одяг?	Therefore I say unto you, Be not anxious for your life, what ye shall eat, and what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not life more than food, and the body than raiment?

Погляньте на птахів небесних: вони не сіють, не жнуть, не збирають у житниці; і Отець ваш Небесний годує їх. Хіба ж ви не набагато кращі за них?	Behold the birds of the heaven, that they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; and your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are not ye of much more value than they?

Та й хто з вас, турбуючись, може додати собі зросту хоч на один лікоть?	And which of you by being anxious can add one cubit unto the measure of his life?
28	28
І про одяг чого піклуєтесь? Подивіться на лілеї польові, як вони ростуть: не трудяться і не прядуть;	And why are ye anxious concerning raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:

кажу ж вам: що й Соломон у всій славі своїй не одягався так, як кожна з них;	yet I say unto you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
30	30
якщо ж траву польову, що сьогодні є, а завтра буде вкинута в піч, Бог так зодягає, то хіба не набагато краще зодягне вас, маловіри!	But if God doth so clothe the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?

Тож не турбуйтеся і не кажіть: що нам їсти? чи що пити? або: у що одягтися?	Be not therefore anxious, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

Бо всього цього язичники шукають; знає бо Отець ваш Небесний, що ви маєте потребу в усьому цьому.	For after all these things do the Gentiles seek; for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

Шукайте ж спершу Царства Божого і правди Його, і все це додасться вам.	But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Отже, не піклуйтеся про завтрашній день, бо завтра саме за себе піклуватиметься. Досить кожному дневі своїх турбот.	Be not therefore anxious for the morrow: for the morrow will be anxious for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
Глава 7	Chapter 7

1	1
Не судіть, щоб і вас не судили;	Judge not, that ye be not judged.
2	2
бо яким судом судите, таким судитимуть і вас, і якою мірою міряєте, такою відміряється й вам.	For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured unto you.
3	3
І чому ж ти бачиш скалку в оці брата твого, а колоди, що є в оці твоєму, не відчуваєш?	And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
4	4
Або, як скажеш братові твоєму: дай я витягну скалку з ока твого, коли колода в оці твоїм?	Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me cast out the mote out of thine eye; and lo, the beam is in thine own eye?
5	5
Лицеміре, вийми спершу колоду з ока твого, і тоді побачиш, як вийняти скалку з ока брата твого.	Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.

Не давайте святого псам і не кидайте перлів ваших перед свиньми, щоб вони не потоптали їх ногами своїми і, обернувшись, не пороздирали й вас.	Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast your pearls before the swine, lest haply they trample them under their feet, and turn and rend you.
7	7
Просіть, і дасться вам; шукайте, і знайдете; стукайте, і відчинять вам;	Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
8	8
бо кожен, хто просить, одержує, і хто шукає, знаходить, і тому, хто стукає, відчиняють.	for everyone that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
9	9
Чи є між вами така людина, яка, коли син її попросить у неї хліба, подала б йому камінь?	Or what man is there of you, who, if his son shall ask him for a loaf, will give him a stone;
10	10
І коли попросить риби, подала б йому змію?	and if he shall ask for a fish, will give him a serpent?
11	11
Отже, якщо ви, будучи злими, вмієте дари добрі давати дітям вашим, тим паче Отець ваш Небесний дасть блага тим, хто просить у Нього.	If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father who is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
12	12
Отже, все, чого бажаєте, щоб вам робили люди, так і ви робіть їм, — бо в цьому є Закон і Пророки.	All things therefore whatsoever ye would that men should do unto you, even so do ye also unto them: for this is the law and the prophets.
13	13
Входьте вузькими воротами, бо просторі ворота і широка дорога ведуть до погибелі, і багато хто йде ними.	Enter ye in by the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many are they that enter in thereby.
14	14
А вузькі ворота і тісна дорога ведуть у життя, і мало тих є, хто знаходить їх.	How narrow is the gate, and straitened the way, that leadeth unto life, and few are they that find it!
15	15
Остерігайтеся лжепророків, які приходять до вас в одежі овечій, а всередині — вовки хижі.	But beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravening wolves.
16	16
По плодах їхніх пізнаєте їх. Хіба збирають виноград з терня або смокви з будяків?	By their fruits ye shall know them. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
17	17
Так усяке добре дерево і плоди добрі родить, а погане дерево і плоди погані родить.	Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but the corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
18	18
Не може дерево добре плоди погані родити, ні дерево погане плоди добрі родити.	A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
19	19
Всяке дерево, що не дає плоду доброго, зрубують і у вогонь кидають.	Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
20	20
Тож за їхніми плодами пізнаєте їх.	Therefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
21	21
Не кожен, хто говорить Мені: Господи! Господи! — увійде в Царство Небесне, а той, хто виконує волю Отця Мого Небесного.	Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father who is in heaven.
22	22
Багато хто скаже Мені того дня: Господи! Господи! Чи не Твоїм ім’ям ми пророкували, і чи не Твоїм ім’ям бісів виганяли, і чи не Твоїм ім’ям багато чудес творили?	Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy by thy name, and by thy name cast out demons, and by thy name do many mighty works?

І тоді скажу їм: Я ніколи не знав вас, відійдіть від Мене, хто чинить беззаконня.	And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Отже, всякого, хто слухає ці слова Мої і виконує їх, уподібню мужеві мудрому, який збудував будинок свій на камені;	Everyone therefore that heareth these words of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, who built his house upon the rock:

І пішов дощ, і розлилися річки, і знялися вітри, і ринули на будинок той, і він не впав, бо був збудований на камені.	and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon the rock.

А всякий, хто слухає ці слова Мої і не виконує їх, уподібниться мужеві нерозумному, який збудував будинок свій на піску;	And everyone that heareth these words of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand:

І пішов дощ, і розлилися річки, і знялися вітри, і налягли на будинок той; і він упав, і руйнування його було велике.	and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and smote upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall thereof.

І коли Ісус скінчив слова ці, народ дивувався вченню Його,	And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these words, the multitudes were astonished at his teaching:

бо Він учив їх, як Той, Хто має владу, а не як книжники і фарисеї.	for he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.
Глава 8	Chapter 8

1	1
Коли ж Він зійшов з гори, слідом за Ним пішло багато народу.	And when he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him.
2	2
І ось підійшов прокажений і, кланяючись Йому, сказав: Господи, коли хочеш, можеш мене очистити.	And behold, there came a leper and worshiped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
3	3
Ісус, простягши руку, доторкнувся до нього і сказав: хочу, очисться. І він у ту ж мить очистився від прокази.	And Jesus stretched forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou made clean. And straightaway his leprosy was cleansed.
4	4
І говорить йому Ісус: гляди ж, нікому не розповідай, але піди покажися священикові і принеси дар, який повелів у законі Мойсей, на свідчення їм.	And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go, show thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.

А як увійшов Ісус до Капернаума, підійшов до Нього сотник і благав Його:	And when he was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him,

Господи, слуга мій вдома лежить розслаблений і тяжко страждає.	and saying, Lord, my servant lieth in the house sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.
7	7
І говорить йому Ісус: Я прийду і зцілю його.	And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.
8	8
Сотник же у відповідь сказав: Господи! Я недостойний, щоб Ти увійшов під покрівлю мою; але промов тільки слово, і видужає слуга мій.	And the centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof; but only say the word, and my servant shall be healed.
9	9
Бо і я — людина підвладна, але, маючи під собою воїнів, кажу одному: іди, і йде; і другому: прийди, і приходить; і слузі моєму: зроби це, і зробить.	For I also am a man under authority, having under myself soldiers: and I say to this one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.

Почувши це, Ісус здивувався і сказав тим, що йшли за Ним: істинно кажу вам, і в Ізраїлі не знайшов Я такої віри.	And when Jesus heard it, he marveled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
11	11
Кажу ж вам, що багато прийдуть зі сходу й заходу і возляжуть з Авраамом, Ісааком і Яковом у Царстві Небесному;	And I say unto you, that many shall come from the east and the west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven:
12	12
А сини Царства вигнані будуть у пітьму непроглядну: там буде плач і скрегіт зубів.	but the sons of the kingdom shall be cast forth into the outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
13	13
І сказав Ісус сотникові: іди, і, як вірував ти, нехай буде тобі. І одужав слуга його в ту ж мить.	And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in that hour.
14	14
Прийшовши до Петрової господи, Ісус побачив тещу його, що лежала в гарячці,	And when Jesus was come into Peter’s house, he saw his wife’s mother lying sick of a fever.
15	15
і доторкнувся до руки її, і гарячка покинула її; і вона встала і слугувала Йому.	And he touched her hand, and the fever left her; and she arose, and ministered unto him.
16	16
Коли ж настав вечір, привели до Нього багатьох біснуватих, і Він вигнав духів словом і зцілив усіх недужих,	And when even was come, they brought unto him many possessed with demons: and he cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all that were sick:
17	17
щоб справдилося сказане пророком Ісаєю, який говорить: Він узяв на Себе недуги наші і поніс хвороби.	that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying, He took our infirmities, and bare our diseases.
18	18
А як побачив Ісус довкола Себе багато народу, звелів ученикам відпливти на другий бік.	Now when Jesus saw great multitudes about him, he gave commandment to depart unto the other side.

Тоді один книжник, підійшовши, сказав Йому: Учителю, я піду за Тобою, куди б Ти не пішов.	And there came a scribe, and said unto him, Teacher, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.
20	20
І каже йому Ісус: лисиці мають нори і птахи небесні — гнізда, Син же Людський не має де голови прихилити.	And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the heaven have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
21	21
Інший же з учеників Його сказав Йому: Господи! Дозволь мені перше піти і поховати батька мого.	And another of his disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.
22	22
Але Ісус сказав йому: іди за Мною і залиш мертвим ховати своїх мерців.	But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and leave the dead to bury their own dead.
23	23
І як увійшов Він у човен, за Ним пішли ученики Його.	And when he was entered into the boat, his disciples followed him.
24	24
І ось піднялися хвилі великі на морі, аж човен покривало; Він же спав.	And behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the boat was covered with the waves: but he was asleep.
25	25
Тоді ученики Його, підійшовши до Нього, розбудили Його і сказали: Господи, рятуй нас, гинемо.	And the disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Save us, Lord; we perish.
26	26
І говорить їм: чого ви такі боязкі, маловіри? Відтак, уставши, заборонив вітрам і морю, і настала велика тиша.	And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.
27	27
Люди ж, дивуючись, говорили: Хто Цей, що і вітри, й море слухають Його?	And the men marveled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him?
28	28
І коли Він прибув на другий бік, до країни Гергесинської, Його зустріли двоє біснуватих, що вийшли з гробниць, дуже люті, так що ніхто не міг пройти тією дорогою.	And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with demons, coming forth out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man could pass by that way.

І ось вони закричали: що Тобі до нас, Ісусе, Сину Божий? Прийшов Ти сюди передчасно мучити нас.	And behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?

А віддалік паслося велике стадо свиней.	Now there was afar off from them a herd of many swine feeding.
31	31
І біси благали Його: якщо виженеш нас, то пошли нас у стадо свиней.	And the demons besought him, saying, If thou cast us out, suffer us to go away into the herd of swine.
32	32
І Він сказав їм: ідіть. І вони, вийшовши, пішли у стадо свиней. І ось усе стадо кинулося з кручі в море і втопилось у воді.	And he said unto them, Go. And they came out, and went into the herd of swine: and behold, the whole herd of swine rushed down the steep into the sea, and perished in the waters.

Пастухи ж побігли і, прийшовши у місто, розповіли про все і про те, що було з біснуватими.	And they that fed them fled, and went away into the city, and told everything, and what was befallen to them that were possessed with demons.

І ось усе місто вийшло назустріч Ісусові; і, побачивши Його, просили, щоб Він відійшов від їхнього краю.	And behold, all the city came out to meet Jesus: and when they saw him, they besought him that he would depart from their borders.
Глава 9	Chapter 9

1	1
Тоді Він, увійшовши в човен, переплив назад і прибув до Свого міста.	And he entered into the boat, and crossed over, and came into his own city.
2	2
І ось принесли до Нього розслабленого, що лежав на постелі. І, побачивши віру їхню, Ісус сказав розслабленому: дерзай, чадо! Прощаються тобі гріхи твої!	And behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, be of good cheer; thy sins are forgiven thee.

При цьому деякі з книжників говорили собі: Він богохульствує.	And behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth.

Ісус же, бачачи помисли їхні, промовив: навіщо ви думаєте лукаве в серцях своїх?	And Jesus seeing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts?
5	5
Бо що легше — сказати: прощаються тобі гріхи, чи сказати: встань і ходи?	For which is easier, to say, Thy sins are forgiven; or to say, Arise, and walk?
6	6
Та щоб знали ви, що Син Людський має владу на землі прощати гріхи. Тоді говорить розслабленому: встань, візьми постіль твою та йди у дім твій.	But that ye may know that the Son of man hath authority on earth to forgive sins (then saith he to the sick of the palsy), Arise, and take up thy bed, and go unto thy house.

І той устав, узяв постіль свою і пішов у дім свій.	And he arose, and departed to his house.
8	8
Народ же, побачивши це, здивувався і прославив Бога, Який дав таку владу людям.	But when the multitudes saw it, they marveled, and glorified God, who had given such authority unto men.
9	9
Проходячи звідти, Ісус побачив чоловіка, що сидів на митниці, на ймення Матфей, і каже йому: іди за Мною. І той устав і пішов за Ним.	And as Jesus passed by from thence, he saw a man, called Matthew, sitting at the place of toll: and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him.

І коли Ісус возлежав у домі, прийшло багато митарів і грішників і возлежали з Ним і з учениками Його.	And it came to pass, as he sat at meat in the house, that behold, many publicans and sinners came and sat down with Jesus and his disciples.
11	11
Побачивши те, фарисеї сказали ученикам Його: чому Учитель ваш їсть і п’є з митарями і грішниками?	And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Teacher with the publicans and sinners?
12	12
Ісус же, почувши це, сказав їм: не здорові потребують лікаря, а недужі,	But when Jesus heard it, he said unto them, They that are whole have no need of a physician, but they that are sick.
13	13
підіть та навчіться, що означає: милости хочу, а не жертви. Бо Я прийшов прикликати не праведників, але грішників до покаяння.	But go ye and learn what this meaneth, I desire mercy, and not sacrifice: for I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
14	14
Тоді приступають до Нього ученики Іоанові і кажуть: чому ми і фарисеї постимо багато, Твої ж ученики не постять?	Then come to him the disciples of John, saying, Why do we and the Pharisees fast oft, but thy disciples fast not?
15	15
І сказав їм Ісус: чи можуть весільні друзі сумувати, поки з ними жених? Але настануть дні, коли відберуть у них жениха, і тоді поститимуть.	And Jesus said unto them, Can the sons of the bridechamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? but the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then will they fast.

Ніхто ж бо на старий одяг не накладає латки з нової тканини, бо відірветься від старого, і дірка буде ще гірша.	And no man putteth a piece of undressed cloth upon an old garment; for that which should fill it up taketh from the garment, and a worse rent is made.
17	17
Не вливають також вина молодого в старі міхи, а інакше прорвуться міхи, і вино витече, і міхи пропадуть; але вливають вино молоде в нові міхи, і зберігається те і друге.	Neither do men put new wine into old wineskins: else the skins burst, and the wine is spilled, and the skins will perish: but they put new wine into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved.

Коли Він говорив їм це, підійшов до Нього якийсь начальник і, кланяючись Йому, сказав: дочка моя нині померла, але Ти прийди, поклади на неї руку Свою, і буде жива.	While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshiped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.
19	19
І, вставши, Ісус за ним пішов, і ученики Його.	And Jesus arose, and followed him, and so did his disciples.
20	20
І ось жінка, що дванадцять років страждала на кровотечу, підійшовши ззаду, доторкнулася до краю одягу Його,	And behold, a woman, who had an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the border of his garment:
21	21
бо вона казала сама собі: як тільки доторкнусь до одягу Його, одужаю.	for she said within herself, If I do but touch his garment, I shall be made whole.
22	22
Ісус же, обернувшись і побачивши її, сказав: дерзай, дочко! Віра твоя спасла тебе. І одужала жінка з того ж часу.	But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good cheer; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.
23	23
Прийшов Ісус до господи начальника і побачив сопілкарів та людей, що голосили.	And when Jesus came into the ruler’s house, and saw the flute players, and the crowd making a tumult,
24	24
І сказав їм: відійдіть, бо не вмерла дівчина, а спить. І глузували з Нього.	he saith unto them, Give place: for the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn.
25	25
Коли ж людей було випроваджено, Він, увійшовши, взяв її за руку, і дівчина встала.	But when the crowd was put forth, he entered in, and took her by the hand; and the damsel arose.
26	26
І рознеслася чутка про це по всій землі тій.	And the fame hereof went forth into all that land.
27	27
Коли йшов Ісус звідтіля, за Ним слідом ішли двоє сліпих і кричали: помилуй нас, Ісусе, Сину Давидів!	And as Jesus passed by from thence, two blind men followed him, crying out, and saying, Have mercy on us, thou son of David.
28	28
Коли ж Він увійшов у дім, сліпі приступили до Нього. І говорить їм Ісус: чи віруєте, що Я можу це зробити? Вони говорять Йому: так, Господи!	And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They say unto him, Yea, Lord.

Тоді він доторкнувся до очей їхніх і сказав: за вірою вашою нехай буде вам.	Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it done unto you.
30	30
І відкрилися очі їхні; і сказав їм Ісус суворо: пильнуйте ж, щоб ніхто не довідався.	And their eyes were opened. And Jesus strictly charged them, saying, See that no man know it.
31	31
Вони ж, вийшовши, прославляли Його по всій землі тій.	But they went forth, and spread abroad his fame in all that land.
32	32
Коли ж ті виходили, то привели до Нього чоловіка німого, біснуватого.	And as they went forth, behold, there was brought to him a dumb man possessed with a demon.
33	33
І коли біса було вигнано, німий почав говорити. І народ, дивуючись, казав: ніколи не було такого в Ізраїлі.	And when the demon was cast out, the dumb man spake: and the multitudes marveled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel.

Фарисеї ж говорили: силою князя бісівського виганяє Він бісів.	But the Pharisees said, By the prince of demons casteth he out demons.
35	35
І ходив Ісус по всіх містах і селах, навчаючи в їхніх синагогах, проповідуючи Євангеліє Царства і зціляючи всякі недуги і всяку неміч у людях.	And Jesus went about all the cities and the villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of disease and all manner of sickness among the people.

Бачачи безліч людей, Він змилосердився над ними, бо вони були зморені й розпорошені, як вівці, що не мають пастиря.	But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion for them, because they were distressed and scattered, as sheep not having a shepherd.

Тоді говорить до учеників Своїх: жнива багато, а женців замало.	Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest indeed is plenteous, but the laborers are few.
38	38
Тож благайте Господаря жнива, щоб вислав женців на жниво Своє.	Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he send forth laborers into his harvest.
Глава 10	Chapter 10

1	1
Прикликавши дванадцять учеників Своїх, Він дав їм владу над нечистими духами, щоб виганяли їх і зціляли всяку недугу і всяку неміч.	And he called unto him his twelve disciples, and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of disease and all manner of sickness.

Дванадцяти ж апостолів імена такі: перший Симон, що зветься Петром, і Андрій, брат його, Яків Зеведеїв та Іоан, брат його,	Now the names of the twelve apostles are these: The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;

Филип і Варфоломій, Фома і Матфей-митар, Яків Алфеїв і Леввей, прозваний Фадеєм,	Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, who was surnamed Thaddaeus;

Симон Кананіт та Іуда Іскаріотський, який і зрадив Його.	Simon the Cananite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.

Цих дванадцятьох послав Ісус і заповів їм, промовляючи: на путь до язичників не ходіть і в місто самарянське не входьте;	These twelve Jesus sent forth, and charged them, saying, Go not into any way of the Gentiles, and enter not into any city of the Samaritans:

а йдіть краще до овець загиблих дому Ізраїлевого;	but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
7	7
ходячи ж, проповідуйте, кажучи, що наблизилося Царство Небесне;	And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.
8	8
хворих зціляйте, прокажених очищайте, мертвих воскрешайте, бісів виганяйте: задарма одержали, задарма давайте.	Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons: freely ye received, freely give.
9	9
Не беріть з собою ні золота, ні срібла, ані міді у пояси свої,	Get you no gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses;
10	10
ні торбини на дорогу, ні двох одежин, ні взуття, ані посоха, бо той, хто трудиться, достойний нагороди своєї.	no wallet for your journey, neither two coats, nor shoes, nor staves: for the laborer is worthy of his food.
11	11
В яке б місто або селище не ввійшли ви, довідуйтесь, хто в ньому достойний є, і там залишайтесь, доки не вийдете;	And into whatsoever city or village ye shall enter, search out who in it is worthy; and there abide till ye go forth.
12	12
а входячи в дім, привітайте його, кажучи: мир дому цьому.	And as ye enter into the house, salute it.
13	13
І якщо буде дім достойний, то мир ваш зійде на нього; якщо ж не буде достойний, то мир ваш до вас повернеться.	And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you.
14	14
А коли хто не прийме вас і не послухає слів ваших, то, виходячи з дому чи з міста того, обтрусіть порох з ніг ваших.	And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, as ye go forth out of that house or that city, shake off the dust of your feet.
15	15
Істинно кажу вам: відрадніше буде землі Содомській і Гоморрській у день судний, аніж місту тому.	Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment, than for that city.
16	16
Ось Я посилаю вас, як овець поміж вовків: отже, будьте мудрі, як змії, і лагідні, як голуби.	Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.
17	17
Остерігайтеся ж людей: бо вони видаватимуть вас на судилища і в своїх синагогах битимуть вас,	But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to councils, and in their synagogues they will scourge you;
18	18
і поведуть вас до правителів і царів заради Мене на свідчення їм та язичникам.	yea and before governors and kings shall ye be brought for my sake, for a testimony to them and to the Gentiles.
19	19
Коли ж видаватимуть вас, не турбуйтеся, як або що говорити; бо в той час дано буде вам, що сказати,	But when they deliver you up, be not anxious how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that hour what ye shall speak.
20	20
бо не ви будете говорити, а Дух Отця вашого говоритиме у вас.	For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father that speaketh in you.
21	21
Видасть же брат брата на смерть і батько сина; і повстануть діти на батьків і уб’ють їх;	And brother shall deliver up brother to death, and the father his child: and children shall rise up against parents, and cause them to be put to death.
22	22
і будуть вас ненавидіти всі за ім’я Моє; а хто витерпить до кінця, той спасенний буде.	And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end, the same shall be saved.
23	23
Коли ж гнатимуть вас в одному місті, біжіть у інше. Бо істинно кажу вам: не встигнете обійти ще міст Ізраїлевих, як прийде Син Людський.	But when they persecute you in this city, flee into the next: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone through the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come.

Учень не вищий за вчителя і слуга не вищий за господаря свого.	A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his lord.
25	25
Досить для учня, щоб він був як учитель його, і для слуги, щоб він був як господар його. Якщо господаря дому назвали Вельзевулом, то чи не тим більше — домашніх його?	It is enough for the disciple that he be as his teacher, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more them of his household!

Отже, не бійтесь їх, бо нема нічого прихованого, що не відкрилося б, і потайного, що не стало б відомим.	Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hidden, that shall not be known.

Що кажу вам у темряві, говоріть при світлі, і що чуєте на вухо, проповідуйте на покрівлях.	What I tell you in the darkness, speak ye in the light; and what ye hear in the ear, proclaim upon the housetops.
28	28
І не бійтеся тих, що вбивають тіло, а душі не можуть убити; але бійтесь більше Того, Хто може і душу, і тіло погубити в геєні.	And be not afraid of them that kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him who is able to destroy both the soul and the body in hell.
29	29
Чи не дві малі пташки продаються за один асарій^*? І жодна з них не впаде на землю без волі Отця вашого;	Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? and not one of them shall fall on the ground without your Father:
30	30
у вас же і волосся на голові все полічено;	but the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
31	31
не бійтеся ж: ви дорожчі за багатьох малих пташок.	Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.
32	32
Отже, кожного, хто визнає Мене перед людьми, того визнаю і Я перед Отцем Моїм Небесним.	Everyone therefore who shall confess me before men, him will I also confess before my Father who is in heaven.
33	33
А хто зречеться Мене перед людьми, зречуся того і Я перед Отцем Моїм Небесним.	But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father who is in heaven.
34	34
Не думайте, що Я прийшов принести мир на землю; не мир прийшов Я принести, а меч.	Think not that I came to send peace on the earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
35	35
Бо Я прийшов розлучити сина з батьком його, і дочку з матір’ю її, і невістку із свекрухою її.	For I came to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law:

І вороги людини — домашні її.	and a man’s foes shall be they of his own household.
37	37
Хто любить батька чи матір більше, ніж Мене, недостойний Мене; і хто любить сина чи дочку більше, ніж Мене, недостойний Мене;	He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
38	38
і хто не бере хрест свій і не йде слідом за Мною, той недостойний Мене.	And he that doth not take his cross and follow after me, is not worthy of me.

Хто зберігає душу свою, загубить її, а хто загубить душу свою заради Мене, збереже її.	He that findeth his life shall lose it; and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

Хто вас приймає, той Мене приймає, а хто приймає Мене, приймає Того, Хто послав Мене;	He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.

хто приймає пророка в ім’я пророка, одержить винагороду пророка; і хто приймає праведника в ім’я праведника, одержить винагороду праведника.	He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward: and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward.

І хто напоїть одного з малих цих чашею холодної води, тільки в ім’я ученика, істинно кажу вам, не втратить нагороди своєї.	And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only, in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you he shall in no wise lose his reward.
Глава 11	Chapter 11

1	1
І сталося, коли Ісус закінчив наставляти дванадцятьох учеників Своїх, то пішов звідти, щоб учити й проповідувати в містах їхніх.	And it came to pass when Jesus had finished commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and preach in their cities.
2	2
Іоан же, почувши у в’язниці про діла Христові, послав двох з учнів своїх	Now when John heard in the prison the works of the Christ, he sent two of his disciples
3	3
запитати Його: чи Ти Той, Хто має прийти, чи нам іншого чекати?	and said unto him, Art thou he that cometh, or look we for another?
4	4
І сказав їм Ісус у відповідь: підіть та розкажіть Іоанові, що чуєте і бачите:	And Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and tell John the things which ye hear and see:
5	5
сліпі прозрівають і криві ходять, прокажені очищаються і глухі чують, мертві воскресають і убогі благовістять;	the blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have good tidings preached to them.
6	6
і блаженний той, хто не спокуситься через Мене.	And blessed is he, whosoever shall find no occasion of stumbling in me.
7	7
Коли ж вони відійшли, Ісус почав говорити людям про Іоана: на що дивитися ходили ви в пустелю? Чи на тростину, що вітер колише?	And as these went their way, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to behold? a reed shaken with the wind?
8	8
На що ж дивитися ходили ви? Чи на людину, вдягнену в м’який одяг? Ті, що носять м’який одяг, у палацах царських живуть.	But what went ye out to see? a man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they that wear soft raiment are in royal houses.
9	9
На що ж дивитися ходили ви? На пророка? Так, кажу вам, більш як пророка.	But what went ye out to see? a prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet.

Цей бо є той, про якого написано: ось Я посилаю ангела Мого перед лицем Твоїм, який приготує дорогу Твою перед Тобою.	For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, Who shall prepare thy way before thee.
11	11
Істинно кажу вам: не було серед народжених жінками більшого за Іоана Хрестителя; але найменший у Царстві Небесному більший за нього.	Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not arisen one greater than John the Baptist: yet he that is but little in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
12	12
Від днів же Іоана Хрестителя донині Царство Небесне силою здобувається, і хто докладає зусилля, здобуває його,	And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and men of violence take it by force.
13	13
бо всі пророки і закон провіщали до Іоана.	For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.
14	14
І коли хочете знати, він є Ілля, що має прийти.	And if ye are willing to receive it, this is Elijah, that is to come.
15	15
Хто має вуха, щоб слухати, нехай слухає!	He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
16	16
Кому ж уподібню рід цей? Він подібний до дітей, що сидять на вулиці і, звертаючись до своїх товаришів,	But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the marketplaces, and calling unto their fellows,
17	17
кажуть: ми грали вам на сопілках, та ви не танцювали; ми співали вам жалібних пісень, та ви не ридали.	and saying, We piped unto you, and ye did not dance; we wailed unto you, and ye did not mourn.
18	18
Бо прийшов Іоан, який не їсть, не п’є; і кажуть: біса має.	For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a demon.
19	19
Прийшов Син Людський, Який їсть і п’є, і кажуть: цей чоловік, який любить їсти й пити вино, митарям друг і грішникам. І виправдалась премудрість від синів своїх.	The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold, a gluttonous man and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners! And wisdom is justified by her children.

Тоді почав Ісус докоряти містам, у яких явлено було найбільше чудес Його, за те, що вони не покаялися.	Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not.

Горе тобі, Хоразине! Горе тобі, Вифсаїдо! Бо якби у Тирі та Сидоні сталися чудеса, що явлені були у вас, то вони давно покаялися б у веретищі й попелі.	Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon which were done in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.

Але кажу вам: Тиру й Сидону відрадніше буде в день судний, ніж вам.	But I say unto you, it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment, than for you.

І ти, Капернауме, що до небес піднісся, до пекла зійдеш, бо якби в Содомі сталися чудеса, що явлені були в тобі, то зостався б він до сьогоднішнього дня.	And thou, Capernaum, who art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down unto Hades: for if the mighty works had been done in Sodom which were done in thee, it would have remained until this day.

Але кажу вам, що землі Содомській відрадніше буде в день судний, ніж тобі.	But I say unto you that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.

Продовжуючи далі, Ісус сказав: славлю Тебе, Отче, Господи неба й землі, що Ти втаїв це від премудрих та розумних і відкрив те немовлятам.	At that season Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou didst hide these things from the wise and understanding, and didst reveal them unto babes:

Так, Отче, бо таке було Твоє благовоління.	yea, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in thy sight.

Усе Мені передано Отцем Моїм, і ніхто не знає Сина, тільки Отець; і Отця ніхто не знає, тільки Син, і той, кому Син схоче відкрити.	All things have been delivered unto me of my Father: and no one knoweth the Son, save the Father; neither doth any know the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son willeth to reveal him.

Прийдіть до Мене, всі струджені і обтяжені, і Я заспокою вас;	Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

візьміть ярмо Моє на себе і навчіться від Мене, бо Я лагідний і смиренний серцем, і знайдете спокій душам вашим;	Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

бо ярмо Моє — благо, і тягар Мій легкий.	For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Глава 12	Chapter 12

У той час проходив Ісус у суботу засіяними ланами; ученики ж Його зголодніли і почали зривати колоски та їсти.	At that season Jesus went on the sabbath day through the grainfields; and his disciples were hungry and began to pluck ears and to eat.

Фарисеї ж, побачивши це, сказали Йому: ось ученики Твої роблять те, чого не годиться робити в суботу.	But the Pharisees, when they saw it, said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which it is not lawful to do upon the sabbath.

Він же сказав їм: хіба ви не читали, що зробив Давид, коли зголоднів сам і ті, що були з ним?	But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did, when he was hungry, he, and they that were with him;

Як він увійшов у храм Божий і їв хліби принесення, яких не можна було їсти ні йому, ні тим, що з ним були, а тільки одним священикам?	how he entered into the house of God, and ate the showbread, which it was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them that were with him, but only for the priests?

Або хіба ви не читали в законі, що по суботах священики в храмі порушують суботу, однак невинні?	Or have ye not read in the law, that on the sabbath day the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are guiltless?

Говорю ж вам, що тут Той, Хто більший від храму.	But I say unto you, that something greater than the temple is here.

Коли б ви знали, що значить: милости хочу, а не жертви, то не осуджували б невинних.	But if ye had known what this meaneth, I desire mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless.

Бо Син Людський є господарем і суботи.	For the Son of man is lord of the sabbath.

І відійшовши звідти, прийшов Він до їхньої синагоги.	And he departed thence, and went into their synagogue:

І ось був там чоловік, що мав суху руку, і спитали Його, чи дозволено зціляти в суботу, щоб звинуватити Його.	and behold, there was a man having his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day? that they might accuse him.
11	11
Він же сказав їм: чи є між вами людина, яка, маючи одну вівцю, якщо вона впаде в суботу в яму, не візьме і не витягне її?	And he said unto them, What man shall there be of you, that shall have one sheep, and if this fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?

Наскільки ж людина краща за вівцю! Отже, дозволено в суботу добро творити.	How much then is a man of more value than a sheep! Wherefore it is lawful to do good on the sabbath day.

Тоді каже чоловікові тому: простягни руку твою. Той простягнув, і стала вона здоровою, як і друга.	Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, as the other.

Фарисеї ж, вийшовши, радилися проти Нього, як би Його погубити. Але Ісус, дізнавшись, пішов звідти.	But the Pharisees went out, and took counsel against him, how they might destroy him.
15	15
І пішло за Ним багато народу, і Він зцілив їх усіх.	And Jesus perceiving it withdrew from thence: and great multitudes followed him; and he healed them all,

І заборонив, щоб не являли Його.	and charged them that they should not make him known:

Щоб справдилося сказане Ісайєю пророком, який говорить:	that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying,

це Отрок Мій, Якого Я обрав. Улюблений Мій, до Якого благоволить душа Моя. Покладу Дух Мій на Нього, і Він провістить народам суд.	Behold, my servant whom I have chosen; My beloved in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my Spirit upon him, And he shall declare judgment to the Gentiles.

Не буде ні суперечити, ні кричати, і ніхто не почує на перехрестях голосу Його;	He shall not strive, nor cry aloud; Neither shall anyone hear his voice in the streets.

тростини надломленої не переломить, і льону тліючого не загасить, доки не доведе суду до перемоги;	A bruised reed shall he not break, And smoking flax shall he not quench, Till he send forth judgment unto victory.

і на ім’я Його уповатимуть народи.	And in his name shall the Gentiles hope.

Тоді привели до Нього біснуватого — сліпого і німого; і Він зцілив його, так що сліпий і німий став говорити й бачити.	Then was brought unto him one possessed with a demon, blind and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb man both spake and saw.

І дивувався весь народ і говорив: чи не Цей є Христос, Син Давидів?	And all the multitudes were amazed, and said, Can this be the son of David?

Фарисеї ж, почувши це, сказали: Він виганяє бісів не інакше, як силою Вельзевула, князя бісівського.	But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This man doth not cast out demons, but by Beelzebul the prince of demons.
25	25
Але Ісус, знаючи думки їхні, сказав їм: усяке царство, що розділилося в собі, запустіє; і всяке місто чи дім, що розділилися у собі, не встоять.	And knowing their thoughts Jesus said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:

І якщо сатана сатану виганяє, то він розділився в собі, як же встоїть царство його?	and if Satan casteth out Satan, he is divided against himself; how then shall his kingdom stand?
27	27
І якщо Я силою Вельзевула виганяю бісів, то чиєю силою виганяють сини ваші? Тому вони будуть вам суддями.	And if I by Beelzebul cast out demons, by whom do your sons cast them out? therefore shall they be your judges.
28	28
Коли ж Я Духом Божим виганяю бісів, то настало для вас Царство Боже.	But if I by the Spirit of God cast out demons, then is the kingdom of God come upon you.

Або як може хто увійти в дім сильного та пограбувати його майно, якщо перше не зв’яже сильного? І тоді розграбує дім його.	Or how can one enter into the house of the strong man, and plunder his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he may plunder his house.

Хто не зі Мною, той проти Мене; і хто не збирає зі Мною, той марнує.	He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth.
31	31
Тому кажу вам: всякий гріх і хула простяться людям, але на Духа хула не проститься людям.	Therefore I say unto you, Every sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men; but the blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven unto men.

І коли хто скаже слово на Сина Людського, проститься йому, якщо ж хто скаже на Духа Святого, не проститься йому ні в цьому житті, ні в майбутньому.	And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him; but whosoever shall speak against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in the present world, nor in that which is to come.

Або визнайте дерево добрим і плід його добрим; або визнайте дерево поганим і плід його поганим, бо дерево пізнається з плоду.	Either make the tree good, and its fruit good; or make the tree corrupt, and its fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by its fruit.

Поріддя єхиднове, як можете добре говорити, злими будучи? Від повноти бо серця говорять уста.	Ye offspring of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.

Добра людина з доброго скарбу^* виносить добре, а зла людина зі злого скарбу виносить лихе.	The good man out of his good treasure bringeth forth good things: and the evil man out of his evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.

Кажу ж вам, що за всяке пусте слово, яке скажуть люди, вони дадуть відповідь у день судний:	And I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

бо за словами своїми будеш виправданий і за словами своїми будеш осуджений.	For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

Тоді деякі з книжників і фарисеїв сказали: Учителю, хочемо від Тебе знамення бачити.	Then certain of the scribes and Pharisees answered, saying, Teacher, we would see a sign from thee.
39	39
Він же сказав їм у відповідь: рід лукавий і перелюбний знамення шукає, та знамення не дасться йому, крім знамення Іони пророка.	But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it but the sign of Jonah the prophet:

Бо як був Іона в утробі кита три дні і три ночі, так буде і Син Людський в серці землі три дні і три ночі.	for as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the whale; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Мужі ниневійські постануть на суд з родом цим і осудять його, бо вони покаялись після проповіді Іониної; а ось тут Більший за Іону.	The men of Nineveh shall stand up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and behold, something greater than Jonah is here.

Цариця південна постане на суд з родом цим і осудить його, бо вона прийшла від краю землі послухати премудрість Соломонову; а ось тут Більший за Соломона.	The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, something greater than Solomon is here.

Коли ж нечистий дух вийде з людини, то блукає безводними місцями, шукаючи спокою, і не знаходить.	But the unclean spirit, when he is gone out of the man, passeth through waterless places, seeking rest, and findeth it not.

Тоді каже: повернуся в дім мій, звідки я вийшов. І, прийшовши, знаходить його порожнім, заметеним і прибраним.	Then he saith, I will return into my house whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.

Тоді йде і бере з собою сім інших духів, лютіших за себе, і вони, ввійшовши, живуть там; і буде для тієї людини останнє гірше від першого. Так буде і роду цьому лукавому.	Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more evil than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man becometh worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this evil generation.

Коли ж Він ще промовляв до народу, Мати і брати Його стояли надворі, бажаючи говорити з Ним.	And while he was yet speaking to the multitudes, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, seeking to speak to him.

І хтось сказав Йому: он Мати Твоя і брати Твої стоять надворі і бажають говорити з Тобою.	And one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, seeking to speak to thee.

Він же відповів тому, хто говорив до Нього: хто Мати Моя і хто брати Мої?	But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?

І, показавши рукою Своєю на учеників Своїх, сказав: ось мати Моя і брати Мої;	And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold, my mother and my brethren!

бо хто творитиме волю Отця Мого Небесного, той брат Мій, і сестра, і мати Моя.	For whosoever shall do the will of my Father who is in heaven, he is my brother, and sister, and mother.
Глава 13	Chapter 13

1	1
Того ж дня, вийшовши з дому, Ісус сів біля моря.	And on that day Jesus went out from the house, and sat by the seaside.

І зібралось до Нього багато народу, так що Йому довелося ввійти у човен і сісти; а весь народ стояв на березі.	And there were gathered unto him great multitudes, so that he entered into the boat, and sat; and all the multitude stood on the beach.
3	3
І говорив їм притчами багато, кажучи: ось вийшов сівач сіяти;	And he spake to them many things in parables, saying, Behold, the sower went forth to sow;
4	4
І коли він сіяв, одне зерно впало при дорозі, і прилетіли птахи і поклювали його.	and as he sowed, some seeds fell by the wayside, and the birds came and devoured them:
5	5
Інше впало на місця кам’янисті, де небагато було землі, і скоро зійшло, бо земля була неглибока.	and others fell upon the rocky places, where they had not much earth: and straightaway they sprang up, because they had no deepness of earth:
6	6
Коли ж зійшло сонце, зів’яло і, оскільки не мало кореня, засохло.	and when the sun was risen, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.
7	7
Інше впало в терня, і виросло терня, і заглушило його;	And others fell upon the thorns; and the thorns grew up and choked them:
8	8
інше впало на добру землю і дало плід: одно в стократ, а друге в шістдесят, інше в тридцять разів.	and others fell upon the good ground, and yielded fruit, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.

Хто має вуха слухати, нехай слухає!	He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
10	10
І, приступивши, ученики сказали Йому: чому притчами говориш їм?	And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?

Він сказав їм у відповідь: тому, що вам дано розуміти тайни Царства Небесного, а їм не дано.	And he answered and said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.

Бо хто має, тому дасться і примножиться, а хто не має, у того відніметься і те, що має.	For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that which he hath.
13	13
Тому говорю їм притчами, що вони, дивлячись, не бачать, і, слухаючи, не чують, і не розуміють;	Therefore speak I to them in parables; because seeing they see not, and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.

і збувається над ними пророцтво Ісаї, яке говорить: слухом почуєте — і не зрозумієте, і очима дивитись будете — і не побачите.	And unto them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall in no wise understand; And seeing ye shall see, and shall in no wise perceive:

Бо згрубіло серце людей цих, і вухами туго чують, і очі свої стулили, щоб не побачити очима, і не почути вухами, і серцем не зрозуміти, і не навернутися, щоб Я зцілив їх.	For this people’s heart is waxed gross, And their ears are dull of hearing, And their eyes they have closed; Lest haply they should perceive with their eyes, And hear with their ears, And understand with their heart, And should turn again, And I would heal them.

Ваші ж очі блаженні, бо бачать, і вуха ваші, бо чують.	But blessed are your eyes, for they see; and your ears, for they hear.

Бо істинно кажу вам, що багато хто з пророків і праведників бажали бачити те, що ви бачите, і не бачили, і чути те, що ви чуєте, і не чули.	For verily I say unto you, that many prophets and righteous men desired to see the things which ye see, and saw them not; and to hear the things which ye hear, and heard them not.

Ви ж вислухайте значення притчі про сівача.	Hear ye then the parable of the sower.

До кожного, хто слухає слово про Царство і не розуміє, приходить лукавий і краде посіяне в серці його — це те, що посіяне при дорозі.	When anyone heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the evil one, and snatcheth away that which hath been sown in his heart. This is he that was sown by the wayside.

А посіяне на кам’янистих місцях означає того, хто слухає слово і зразу ж з радістю сприймає його,	And he that was sown upon the rocky places, this is he that heareth the word, and straightaway with joy receiveth it;
21	21
але не має кореня в собі, будучи нестійким; коли ж настає скрута або гоніння через слово це, відразу спокушається.	yet hath he not root in himself, but endureth for a while; and when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, straightaway he stumbleth.

А посіяне між терням — це той, хто слухає слово, але турботи віку цього і спокуса багатством заглушують слово, і воно буває безплідним.	And he that was sown among the thorns, this is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.

Посіяне ж в добру землю — це той, хто слухає слово, і розуміє, і приносить плід, і творить — один у стократ, другий в шістдесят, а інший в тридцять разів.	And he that was sown upon the good ground, this is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; who verily beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.

Іншу притчу запропонував їм, кажучи: Царство Небесне подібне до чоловіка, що посіяв добре насіння на полі своїм;	Another parable set he before them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man that soweth good seed in his field:

коли ж люди спали, прийшов ворог його і насіяв кукіль між пшеницею, і пішов.	but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went away.

Коли зійшов посів і показався плід, тоді з’явився і кукіль.	But when the blade sprang up and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.

Прийшли раби господаря і сказали йому: господарю, чи не добре насіння ти сіяв на полі твоїм? Звідки ж взявся кукіль?	And the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst thou not sow good seed in thy field? whence then hath it tares?

Він же сказав їм: людина-ворог це зробила. А раби сказали йому: чи не хочеш ти, щоб ми пішли і випололи його?	And he said unto them, An enemy hath done this. And the servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we should go and gather them up?

Але він сказав: ні, бо, вибираючи кукіль, щоб ви не вирвали разом з ним і пшеницю.	But he said, Nay; lest haply while ye gather up the tares, ye root up the wheat with them.

Залиште рости разом те і те до жнив; а в жнива я скажу женцям: зберіть спершу кукіль і зв’яжіть його у снопи, щоб спалити; а пшеницю зберіть у житницю мою.	Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather up first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them; but gather the wheat into my barn.

Іншу притчу запропонував Він їм, кажучи: Царство Небесне подібне до гірчичного зерна, яке взяв чоловік і посіяв на полі своїм.	Another parable set he before them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like unto a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field:

Воно, хоч і найменше з усіх зерен, але, коли виросте, буває більше за будь-яке зілля і стає деревом, так що птахи небесні прилітають і ховаються у гілках його.	which indeed is less than all seeds; but when it is grown, it is greater than the herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the heaven come and lodge in the branches thereof.

Іншу притчу сказав Він їм: Царство Небесне подібне до закваски, яку жінка взяла і поклала на три мірки борошна, доки все не вкисне.	Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till it was all leavened.

Усе це говорив Ісус людям притчами, і без притчі нічого не говорив їм,	All these things spake Jesus in parables unto the multitudes; and without a parable spake he not unto them:

щоб збулося сказане через пророка, який говорить: відкрию в притчах уста Мої, сповіщу сокровенне від створення світу.	that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things hidden from the foundation of the world.

Тоді Ісус, залишивши людей, увійшов у дім. І, приступивши до Нього, ученики Його сказали: роз’ясни нам притчу про кукіль на полі.	Then Jesus left the multitudes, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Explain unto us the parable of the tares of the field.

Він же сказав їм у відповідь: Той, Хто посіяв добре насіння, є Син Людський;	And he answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man;

поле — це світ; добре насіння — це сини Царства, а кукіль — сини лукавого;	and the field is the world; and the good seed, these are the sons of the kingdom; and the tares are the sons of the evil one;

ворог, що його посіяв, є диявол; жнива — це кінець світу, а женці — ангели.	and the enemy that sowed them is the devil: and the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are angels.

Отже, як збирають кукіль і спалюють вогнем, так буде при кінці світу цього:	As therefore the tares are gathered up and burned with fire; so shall it be in the end of this world.

пошле Син Людський ангелів Своїх, і зберуть з Царства Його всі спокуси і тих, що чинять беззаконня,	The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that cause stumbling, and them that do iniquity,

і вкинуть їх у піч вогняну; там буде плач і скрегіт зубів.	and shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Тоді праведники засяють, як сонце, в Царстві Отця їхнього. Хто має вуха слухати, нехай слухає!	Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

Ще Царство Небесне подібне до скарбу, захованого на полі, який знайшов чоловік і приховав, і на радощах іде й продає все, що має, і купує поле те.	Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a treasure hidden in the field; which a man found, and hid; and in his joy he goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.

Ще Царство Небесне подібне до купця, який шукає добрі перли,	Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is a merchant seeking goodly pearls:

і, знайшовши одну коштовну перлину, іде й продає усе, що має, і купує її.	who, when he found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

Ще Царство Небесне подібне до невода, закинутого в море, що назбирав усякої всячини;	Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind:

коли ж наповнився, його витягли на берег і, сівши, вибрали добре в посуд, а погане викинули геть.	which, when it was filled, they drew up on the beach; and they sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but the bad they cast away.

Так буде при кінці світу: зійдуть ангели, і відлучать злих від праведних,	So shall it be in the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the righteous,

і вкинуть їх у піч вогняну: там буде плач і скрегіт зубів.	and shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

І каже їм Ісус: чи зрозуміли ви все це? Вони говорять Йому: так, Господи!	Jesus saith unto them, Have ye understood all these things? They say unto him, Yea, Lord.

Він же сказав їм: ось тому кожен книжник, навчений про Царство Небесне, подібний до господаря, який виносить із свого скарбу нове й старе.	And he said unto them, Therefore every scribe who hath been made a disciple to the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is a householder, who bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old.

And coming into his own country he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works?

Чи Він не син теслі? Чи не Його Мати зветься Марією і брати Його Яків та Іосія, і Симон, та Іуда?	Is not this the carpenter’s son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas?

І сестри Його чи не всі між нами? Звідки ж у Нього це все?	And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things?

І спокушалися Ним. Ісус же сказав їм: не буває пророка без честі, хіба що тільки на батьківщині своїй і в домі своїм.	And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honor, save in his own country, and in his own house.

І не створив там багатьох чудес через невір’я їхнє.	And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.
Глава 14	Chapter 14

У той час почув Ірод четвертовладник чутку про Ісуса	At that season Herod the tetrarch heard the report concerning Jesus,

і сказав прислужникам своїм: це Іоан Хреститель; він воскрес із мертвих, і тому чудеса діються ним.	and said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore do these powers work in him.

Бо Ірод узяв Іоана, зв’язав його і посадив у в’язницю через Іродіаду, жінку Филипа, брата свого,	For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife.

тому що Іоан говорив йому: не личить тобі мати її.	For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her.

І хотів убити його, та побоявся народу, бо вважали його пророком.	And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.

Коли був день народження Ірода, дочка Іродіади танцювала посеред зібрання і догодила Іродові,	But when Herod’s birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced in the midst, and pleased Herod.

тому він поклявся дати їй, чого б вона не попросила.	Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she should ask.

Вона ж, з намови матері своєї, сказала: дай мені тут на блюді голову Іоана Хрестителя.	And she, being put forward by her mother, saith, Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist.

І засмутився цар; але, заради клятви і тих, що возлежали з ним, звелів дати їй.	And the king was grieved; but for the sake of his oaths, and of them that sat at meat with him, he commanded it to be given;

І послав відсікти голову Іоана у в’язниці.	and he sent and beheaded John in the prison.
11	11
І принесли голову його на блюді і дали дівчині, а та віднесла матері своїй.	And his head was brought on a platter, and given to the damsel: and she brought it to her mother.

Ученики ж його, прийшовши, взяли тіло і поховали його; пішли і сповістили Ісуса.	And his disciples came, and took up the body, and buried it; and they went and told Jesus.
13	13
І, почувши про те, Ісус відплив звідти на човні у безлюдне місце один; а народ, довідавшись, пішов за Ним з міст пішки.	And when Jesus heard it, he withdrew from thence in a boat, to a desert place apart: and when the multitudes heard thereof, they followed him on foot from the cities.
14	14
І, вийшовши, Ісус побачив багато людей, змилосердився над ними і зцілив недужих їхніх.	And Jesus came forth, and saw a great multitude, and he had compassion on them, and healed their sick.
15	15
Як настав вечір, приступили до Нього ученики Його і кажуть: місце тут пустинне і час уже пізній; відпусти людей, нехай підуть у селища і куплять собі що їсти.	And when even was come, his disciples came to him, saying, The place is desert, and the time is already past; send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves food.

Ісус же сказав їм: не треба їм іти, дайте ви їм їсти.	But Jesus said unto them, They have no need to go away; give ye them to eat.

Вони ж кажуть Йому: у нас тут тільки п’ять хлібів і дві рибини.	And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fish.
18	18
Він сказав: принесіть їх Мені сюди.	And he said, Bring them hither to me.
19	19
І звелів народові возлягти на траву і, взявши п’ять хлібів і дві рибини, підняв очі на небо, благословив і, переломивши, дав ученикам хліби, а ученики — народові.	And he commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass; and he took the five loaves, and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake and gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples to the multitudes.

І їли всі і наситились; і набрали залишків дванадцять повних кошиків;	And they all ate, and were filled: and they took up that which remained over of the broken pieces, twelve baskets full.
21	21
а тих, що їли, було близько п’яти тисяч чоловіків, крім жінок та дітей.	And they that did eat were about five thousand men, besides women and children.

І зараз же звелів Ісус ученикам Своїм сісти в човен і пливти раніше за Нього на той бік, поки Він відпустить людей.	And straightaway Jesus constrained the disciples to enter into the boat, and to go before him unto the other side, till he should send the multitudes away.

І, відпустивши народ, Він зійшов на гору помолитися на самоті; і ввечері залишився там один.	And after he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into the mountain apart to pray: and when even was come, he was there alone.

А човен був уже на середині моря, і било його хвилями, бо вітер був супротивний.	But the boat was now in the midst of the sea, distressed by the waves; for the wind was contrary.
25	25
У четверту ж сторожу ночі пішов Ісус до них, ідучи по морю.	And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking upon the sea.
26	26
І ученики, побачивши, що Він іде по морю, стривожились і говорили: це привид. І зі страху закричали.	And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a ghost; and they cried out for fear.
27	27
Але Ісус зараз же заговорив до них і сказав: заспокойтесь! Це Я, не бійтеся.	But straightaway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.
28	28
Петро сказав Йому у відповідь: Господи! Якщо це Ти, звели мені прийти до Тебе по воді.	And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee upon the waters.

Він же сказав: прийди. І, вийшовши з човна, Петро пішов по воді, щоб підійти до Ісуса.	And he said, Come. And Peter went down from the boat, and walked upon the waters to go to Jesus.
30	30
Побачивши ж сильний вітер, злякався і, коли почав тонути, закричав: Господи, спаси мене!	But when he saw the strong wind, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, Lord, save me.

Ісус зараз же простяг руку, підтримав його і говорить йому: маловіре! Чого ти засумнівався?	And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and took hold of him, and saith unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

І, як увійшли вони в човен, вітер стих.	And when they had entered into the boat, the wind ceased.
33	33
Ті, що були в човні, підійшли, вклонилися Йому і сказали: воістину Ти Син Божий.	And they that were in the boat came and worshiped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

Переправившись, вони прибули в землю Генісаретську.	And when they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret.

Жителі того міста, впізнавши Його, дали знати по всій тій околиці, і принесли до Нього всіх недужих,	And when the men of that place knew him, they sent into all that region round about, and brought unto him all that were sick;

і благали Його, щоб тільки доторкнутися до краю одежі Його; і ті, що доторкалися, зцілялися.	and they besought him that they might only touch the border of his garment: and as many as touched were made whole.
Глава 15	Chapter 15

Тоді приступають до Ісуса єрусалимські книжники та фарисеї і говорять:	Then there come to Jesus the scribes and Pharisees that were from Jerusalem, saying,

чому ученики Твої порушують передання старців? Бо не миють рук своїх, коли їдять хліб.	Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread.
3	3
Він же сказав їм у відповідь: чому і ви порушуєте заповідь Божу, заради передання вашого?	And he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition?
4	4
Бо Бог заповідав: шануй батька й матір; і хто лихословить на батька чи матір, нехай смертю помре.	For God commanded, saying, Honor thy father and thy mother: and, He that speaketh evil of father or mother, let him die the death.
5	5
А ви говорите: якщо хто скаже батькові або матері: дар Богові те, чим би ти від мене скористався,	But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, That wherewith thou mightest have been profited by me is given to God; and he shall not honor his father or his mother.
6	6
той може і не шанувати батька свого або матір свою. Таким чином, і ви порушили заповідь Божу переданням вашим.	And ye have made void the commandment of God because of your tradition.

Лицеміри! Добре пророкував про вас Ісая, кажучи:	Ye hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying,

наближаються до Мене люди ці устами своїми, й устами шанують Мене, серце ж їхнє далеко від Мене;	This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, And honoreth me with their lips; But their heart is far from me.

але марно шанують Мене, навчаючи вченням і заповідям людським.	But in vain do they worship me, Teaching as their doctrines the precepts of men.
10	10
І, покликавши людей, сказав їм: слухайте і розумійте!	And he called to him the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand:
11	11
Не те, що входить в уста, оскверняє людину, а те, що виходить з уст, оскверняє людину.	Not that which entereth into the mouth defileth the man; but that which proceedeth out of the mouth, this defileth the man.
12	12
Тоді ученики Його, приступивши, сказали Йому: чи знаєш, що фарисеї, почувши це слово, спокусилися?	Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, when they heard this saying?
13	13
Він же сказав у відповідь: усяка рослина, яку не насадив Отець Мій Небесний, викоріниться.	But he answered and said, Every plant which my heavenly Father planted not, shall be rooted up.
14	14
Облиште їх: вони — сліпі вожді сліпців, а коли сліпець веде сліпця, то обидва впадуть в яму.	Let them alone: they are blind guides of the blind. And if the blind guide the blind, both shall fall into a pit.
15	15
Петро ж, відповідаючи, сказав Йому: поясни нам притчу цю.	And Peter answered and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable.

Ісус сказав: невже і ви ще не розумієте?	And Jesus said, Are ye also even yet without understanding?

Чи ще не зрозуміли, що все, що входить в уста, проходить у черево і виходить геть?	Do ye not yet perceive, that whatsoever goeth into the mouth passeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draft?
18	18
А те, що з уст виходить, від серця виходить; це і оскверняє людину,	But the things which proceed out of the mouth come forth out of the heart; and they defile the man.
19	19
бо від серця виходять злі помисли, вбивства, перелюбства, любодіяння, злодійство, лжесвідчення, хула.	For out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, railings:
20	20
Це те, що оскверняє людину, а немитими руками їсти — не оскверняє людину.	these are the things which defile the man; but to eat with unwashed hands defileth not the man.
21	21
І, вийшовши звідти, Ісус пішов у землі Тирські і Сидонські.	And Jesus went out thence, and withdrew into the parts of Tyre and Sidon.

І ось жінка-хананеянка, вийшовши з тих місць, закричала Йому: помилуй мене, Господи, Сину Давидів, дочка моя тяжко біснується.	And behold, a Canaanitish woman came out from those borders, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a demon.

Але Він не відповідав їй ні слова. І підійшли ученики Його і благали Його: відпусти її, бо кричить нам услід.	But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.
24	24
Він же сказав у відповідь: Я посланий лише до загиблих овець дому Ізраїлевого.	But he answered and said, I was not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
25	25
А вона, підійшовши, вклонилася Йому і каже: Господи, допоможи мені.	But she came and worshiped him, saying, Lord, help me.
26	26
Він же сказав у відповідь: недобре взяти хліб у дітей і кинути псам.	And he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children’s bread and cast it to the dogs.
27	27
Вона сказала: так, Господи! Але і пси їдять крихти, що падають зі столу господарів їхніх.	But she said, Yea, Lord: for even the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.
28	28
Тоді Ісус сказав їй у відповідь: о жінко! Велика віра твоя; нехай буде тобі, як ти хочеш. І зцілилася дочка її у ту ж мить.	Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it done unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was healed from that hour.

Ісус пішов звідти і прийшов до моря Галилейського, і, зійшовши на гору, сів там.	And Jesus departed thence, and came nigh unto the sea of Galilee; and he went up into the mountain, and sat there.

І приступило до Нього багато народу, маючи з собою кривих, сліпих, німих, калік і багато інших, і клали їх до ніг Ісусових; і Він зцілив їх.	And there came unto him great multitudes, having with them the lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and they cast them down at Jesus’ feet; and he healed them:

І народ дивувався, бачачи, що німі говорять, каліки стають здоровими, криві ходять і сліпі бачать, і славив Бога Ізраїлевого.	insomuch that the multitudes wondered, when they saw the dumb speaking, the maimed whole, the lame walking, and the blind seeing: and they glorified the God of Israel.

Ісус же, покликавши учеників Своїх, сказав їм: шкода Мені людей, що вже три дні перебувають зі Мною і нічого їм їсти; відпустити ж їх голодними не хочу, щоб не ослабли в дорозі.	And Jesus called unto him his disciples, and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days and have nothing to eat: and I would not send them away fasting, lest haply they faint on the way.

Говорять Йому ученики Його: де ж нам у пустелі взяти стільки хліба, щоб нагодувати стільки народу?	And his disciples say unto him, Whence should we have so many loaves in a desert place as to fill so great a multitude?

Говорить їм Ісус: скільки у вас хлібів? Вони сказали: сім, і трохи риби.	And Jesus saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven, and a few small fish.

Тоді звелів народові возлягти на землю.	And he commanded the multitudes to sit down on the ground;

І, взявши сім хлібів та рибу і віддавши хвалу, переломив і дав ученикам Своїм, а ученики — народові.	and having taken the seven loaves and the fish, he gave thanks and brake, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.

І їли всі і наситились; і набрали сім повних кошиків залишків,	And they all ate, and were filled: and they took up that which remained over of the broken pieces, seven baskets full.

а тих, що їли, було чотири тисячі чоловіків, не рахуючи жінок та дітей.	And they that did eat were four thousand men, besides women and children.

І, відпустивши народ, Він сів у човен і прибув у межі Магдалинські.	And he sent away the multitudes, and went up into the boat, and came into the borders of Magdala.
Глава 16	Chapter 16

1	1
І приступили до Нього фарисеї і саддукеї і, спокушаючи Його, просили показати їм знамення з неба.	And the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and trying him asked him to show them a sign from heaven.
2	2
Він же сказав їм у відповідь: увечері ви говорите: буде погода, бо небо червоне;	But he answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the heaven is red.
3	3
А вранці: сьогодні негода, бо небо багряне. Лицеміри! Розпізнавати лице неба ви вмієте, а знамення часу не можете.	And in the morning, It will be foul weather today: for the heaven is red and lowering. Ye hypocrites, ye know how to discern the face of the heaven; but ye cannot discern the signs of the times.

Рід лукавий і перелюбний знамення шукає, і знамення не дасться йому, крім знамення Іони пророка. І, залишивши їх, відійшов.	An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of Jonah the prophet. And he left them, and departed.

Переправившись на той бік, ученики Його забули взяти хлібів.	And his disciples came to the other side and forgot to take bread.

Ісус сказав їм: пильнуйте і стережіться закваски фарисейської та саддукейської.	And Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

Вони ж розмірковували над цим і говорили: ми ж хлібів не взяли.	And they reasoned among themselves, saying, We took no bread.

Зрозумівши те, Ісус сказав їм: що помишляєте про себе, маловіри, що хлібів не взяли?	And Jesus perceiving it said unto them, O ye of little faith, why reason ye among yourselves, because ye have brought no bread?
9	9
Хіба ще не розумієте і не пам’ятаєте про п’ять хлібів на п’ять тисяч, і скільки кошиків ви зібрали?	Do ye not yet perceive, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?
10	10
Ані про сім хлібів на чотири тисячі, і скільки кошиків ви зібрали?	Neither the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?
11	11
Як не розумієте, що не про хліб сказав Я вам: стережіться закваски фарисейської та саддукейської?	How is it that ye do not perceive that I spake it not to you concerning bread, that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

Тоді вони зрозуміли, що Він говорив їм стерегтися не хлібної закваски, а вчення фарисейського та саддукейського.	Then understood they that he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

Коли Ісус прийшов у землі Кесарії Филипової, то спитав учеників Своїх: за кого люди вважають Мене, Сина Людського?	Now when Jesus came into the parts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Who do men say that I the Son of man am?

Вони відповіли: одні — за Іоана Хрестителя, другі — за Іллю, інші — за Єремію або за одного з пророків.	And they said, Some say John the Baptist; some, Elijah; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.

Він говорить їм: а ви за кого Мене вважаєте?	He saith unto them, But who say ye that I am?

Симон же Петро, відповідаючи, сказав: Ти є Христос, Син Бога Живого.	And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

Тоді Ісус сказав йому у відповідь: блажен ти, Симоне, сину Іонин, бо не плоть і не кров^* відкрили тобі це, а Отець Мій, Який на небесах;	And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-Jonah: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father who is in heaven.

і Я кажу тобі: ти Петро^, тобто «камінь»*, і на цьому камені Я збудую Церкву Мою, і врата пекла не здолають її.	And I also say unto thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.

І дам тобі ключі Царства Небесного; і що зв’яжеш на землі, те буде зв’язане на небесах, і що розв’яжеш на землі, те буде розв’язане на небесах.	And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

Тоді Ісус наказав ученикам Своїм, щоб нікому не говорили, що Він є Ісус Христос.	Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.

З того часу Ісус почав відкривати Своїм ученикам, що Йому належить іти до Єрусалима і багато постраждати від старійшин і первосвящеників і книжників, і бути вбитим, і на третій день воскреснути.	From that time began Jesus to show unto his disciples, that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up.

І, відізвавши Його, Петро почав заперечувати Йому: будь милосердний до Себе, Господи! Нехай не буде цього з Тобою!	And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall never be unto thee.

Він же, обернувшись, сказав Петрові: відійди від Мене, сатано! Ти спокуса Мені, бо думаєш не про Боже, а про людське.	But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art a stumbling block unto me: for thou mindest not the things of God, but the things of men.

Тоді Ісус сказав ученикам Своїм: якщо хто хоче йти за Мною, нехай зречеться себе, і візьме хрест свій, та йде за Мною.	Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man would come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

Бо хто хоче душу^* свою зберегти, той погубить її, а хто погубить душу свою заради Мене, той збереже її.	For whosoever would save his life shall lose it: and whosoever shall lose his life for my sake shall find it.

Яка бо користь людині, якщо вона здобуде весь світ, а душу свою занапастить? Або що дасть людина взамін за душу свою?	For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and forfeit his life? or what shall a man give in exchange for his life?

Бо прийде Син Людський у славі Отця Свого з ангелами Своїми і тоді віддасть кожному за ділами його.	For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then shall he render unto every man according to his deeds.

Істинно кажу вам: є деякі з тих, що стоять тут, які не зазнають смерти, доки не побачать Сина Людського, що гряде в Царстві Своїм.	Verily I say unto you, There are some standing here, who shall in no wise taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.
Глава 17	Chapter 17

1	1
Коли минуло шість днів, Ісус взяв Петра, Якова та Іоана, брата його, і вивів їх на високу гору одних,	And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into a high mountain apart:

і преобразився перед ними: лице Його засяяло, як сонце, одежа ж Його стала білою, як світло.	and he was transfigured before them; and his face did shine as the sun, and his garments became white as the light.
3	3
І ось явилися їм Мойсей та Ілля, які розмовляли з Ним.	And behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elijah talking with him.

При цьому Петро сказав Ісусові: Господи! Добре нам тут бути; коли хочеш, зробимо тут три намети: Тобі один, Мойсеєві один, і один Іллі.	And Peter answered, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.

Поки він говорив це, ясна хмара осінила їх, і ось голос з хмари говорить: Цей є Син Мій Улюблений, в Якому Моє благовоління; Його слухайте.	While he was yet speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold, a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

І, почувши, ученики впали ниць і дуже полякались.	And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid.

Але Ісус підійшов, доторкнувся до них і сказав: встаньте і не бійтеся.	And Jesus came and touched them and said, Arise, and be not afraid.

Звівши ж очі свої, вони нікого не побачили, тільки одного Ісуса.	And lifting up their eyes, they saw no one, save Jesus only.

І коли вони сходили з гори, Ісус наказав їм: нікому не говоріть про це видіння, доки Син Людський не воскресне з мертвих.	And as they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen from the dead.

І спитали Його ученики Його: чому ж книжники говорять, що Іллі належить прийти раніш?	And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elijah must first come?

Ісус сказав їм у відповідь: так, Ілля прийде раніш і все приготує;	And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elijah indeed cometh first, and shall restore all things:

але кажу вам, що Ілля вже прийшов, і його не впізнали, і зробили з ним, як хотіли. Так і Син Людський має постраждати від них.	but I say unto you, that Elijah is come already, and they knew him not, but did unto him whatsoever they would. Even so shall the Son of man also suffer of them.

Тоді ученики зрозуміли, що він говорив їм про Іоана Хрестителя.	Then understood the disciples that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.

Коли вони прийшли до народу, то підійшов до Нього чоловік і, ставши перед Ним на коліна,	And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a man, kneeling to him,

сказав: Господи! Помилуй сина мого; бо він на новий місяць біснується і тяжко страждає, бо часто кидається в огонь і часто у воду.	and saying, Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is epileptic, and suffereth grievously; for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and ofttimes into the water.

Я приводив його до учеників Твоїх, та вони не змогли зцілити його.	And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.
17	17
Ісус же, відповідаючи, сказав: о роде невірний і розбещений! Доки буду з вами, доки терпітиму вас? Приведіть його до Мене сюди.	And Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I bear with you? bring him hither to me.
18	18
І заборонив йому Ісус, і біс вийшов з нього; і отрок зцілився у ту ж мить.	And Jesus rebuked him; and the demon went out of him: and the boy was cured from that hour.
19	19
Тоді ученики, приступивши до Ісуса на самоті, сказали: чому ми не змогли вигнати його?	Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast it out?
20	20
Ісус же сказав їм: через невір’я ваше. Бо істинно кажу вам: якщо ви матимете віру як зерно гірчичне і скажете горі цій: перейди звідси туди, і вона перейде; і не буде нічого неможливого для вас.	And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

Цей же рід виганяється тільки молитвою і постом.	But this kind goeth not out save by prayer and fasting.

Під час перебування їх у Галилеї, Ісус сказав їм: Син Людський буде виданий в руки людям,	And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, The Son of man shall be delivered up into the hands of men;

і уб’ють Його, і на третій день воскресне. І вони дуже засмутилися.	and they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised up. And they were exceeding sorry.

Коли ж вони прийшли до Капернаума, то підійшли до Петра збирачі дидрахм^* і сказали: чи не дасть Учитель ваш дидрахми?	And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received the half-shekel came to Peter, and said, Doth not your teacher pay the half-shekel?

Він говорить: так. І коли увійшов він у дім, то Ісус, випередивши його, сказав: як тобі здається, Симоне, царі землі з кого беруть мито або податки: зі своїх синів чи з чужих?	He saith, Yea. And when he came into the house, Jesus spake first to him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? the kings of the earth, from whom do they receive toll or tribute? from their sons, or from strangers?

Петро говорить Йому: з чужих. Ісус сказав йому: отже, сини вільні;	Peter saith unto him, From strangers. Jesus said unto him, Therefore the sons are free.

але, щоб нам не спокусити їх, піди до моря, закинь вудку, і першу спійману рибу візьми, відкрий їй рот і знайдеш статир^*, візьми його і віддай їм за Мене і за себе.	But, lest we cause them to stumble, go thou to the sea, and cast a hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a shekel: that take, and give unto them for me and thee.
Глава 18	Chapter 18

1	1
У той час ученики приступили до Ісуса і кажуть: хто більший у Царстві Небесному?	In that hour came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?
2	2
Ісус, покликавши дитя, поставив його посеред них	And Jesus called to him a little child, and set him in the midst of them,
3	3
і сказав: істинно кажу вам: якщо ви не навернетесь і не будете як діти, не ввійдете у Царство Небесне.	and said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye turn, and become as little children, ye shall in no wise enter into the kingdom of heaven.
4	4
Отже, хто упокориться, як дитя це, той і більший у Царстві Небесному.	Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
5	5
І хто прийме одне таке дитя в ім’я Моє, той Мене приймає;	And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me:
6	6
а хто спокусить одного з малих цих, що вірують у Мене, тому краще було б, якби повісили йому жорно млинове на шию і потопили його в морській глибині.	but whoso shall cause one of these little ones that believe on me to stumble, it is profitable for him that a great millstone should be hung upon his neck, and that he should be sunk in the depth of the sea.

Горе світові від спокус, бо потрібно, щоб прийшли спокуси; але горе такій людині, через яку спокуса приходить.	Woe unto the world because of occasions of stumbling! for it must needs be that the occasions come; but woe to that man through whom the occasion cometh!

Якщо рука твоя чи нога твоя спокушає тебе, відсічи її і кинь від себе: краще тобі ввійти в життя без руки чи без ноги, ніж, дві руки і дві ноги маючи, бути вкинутим у вогонь вічний.	And if thy hand or thy foot causeth thee to stumble, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is good for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into the eternal fire.

Коли око твоє спокушає тебе, вирви його і кинь від себе: краще тобі з одним оком у життя увійти, аніж з двома очима бути вкинутим у геєну вогненну.	And if thine eye causeth thee to stumble, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is good for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into the hell of fire.

Стережіться, щоб ви не зневажили жодного з цих малих: бо кажу вам, що ангели їхні на небесах повсякчас бачать лице Отця Мого Небесного.	See that ye despise not one of these little ones: for I say unto you, that in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father who is in heaven.

Бо Син Людський прийшов знайти і спасти загибле.	For the Son of man came to save that which was lost.
12	12
Як вам здається, коли буде в якогось чоловіка сто овець, і одна з них заблукає, чи не покине він у горах дев’яносто дев’ять і не піде шукати ту, що заблукала?	How think ye? if any man have a hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and go seek on the mountains that which goeth astray?

І якщо трапиться знайти її, істинно кажу вам, він радіє за неї більше, ніж за дев’яносто дев’ять, що не заблукали.	And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth over it more than over the ninety and nine which have not gone astray.

Так само немає волі Отця вашого Небесного, щоб загинув один з малих цих.	Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.
15	15
Якщо ж згрішить проти тебе брат твій, піди і викрий його між тобою і ним одним. Якщо послухає тебе, то придбав ти брата твого.	And if thy brother sin against thee, go and show him his fault between thee and him alone: if he hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.
16	16
Якщо ж тебе не послухає, візьми з собою ще одного або двох, щоб устами двох чи трьох свідків підтвердилося кожне слово.	But if he hear thee not, take with thee one or two more, that at the mouth of two witnesses or three every word may be established.
17	17
Якщо ж не послухає їх, скажи церкві; якщо ж і церкви не послухає, то нехай він буде тобі як язичник і митар.	And if he refuse to hear them, tell it unto the church: and if he refuse to hear the church also, let him be unto thee as the Gentile and the publican.
18	18
Істинно кажу вам: що ви зв’яжете на землі, те буде зв’язане на небі, і що розв’яжете на землі, те буде розв’язане на небі.	Verily I say unto you, What things soever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and what things soever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

Істинно також кажу вам: якщо двоє з вас дійдуть згоди на землі просити про всяку річ, то, чого б вони не попросили, буде їм від Отця Мого Небесного;	Again, verily I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father who is in heaven.
20	20
бо, де двоє чи троє зібрані в ім’я Моє, там Я серед них.	For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
21	21
Тоді Петро підійшов до Нього і сказав: Господи, скільки разів прощати брату моєму, який згрішить проти мене? Чи до семи разів?	Then came Peter to him and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? until seven times?
22	22
Ісус говорить йому: не кажу тобі — до семи, але до сімдесяти разів по сім.	Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times; but, Until seventy times seven.
23	23
Тому Царство Небесне подібне до царя, який захотів порахуватися з рабами своїми;	Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, who would make a reckoning with his servants.
24	24
коли він почав рахуватися, привели до нього одного боржника, який винен був йому десять тисяч талантів^*;	And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, that owed him ten thousand talents.
25	25
а оскільки він не мав чим заплатити, то господар звелів продати його, і жінку його, і дітей, і все, що він мав, і віддати.	But forasmuch as he had not wherewith to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.

Тоді раб той упав і, кланяючись йому, говорив: господарю, потерпи мені, і все тобі віддам.	The servant therefore fell down and worshiped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.
27	27
Господар змилосердився над рабом тим, простив його і борг відпустив йому.	And the lord of that servant, being moved with compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt.
28	28
Раб же той, вийшовши, зустрів одного з товаришів своїх, який був винен йому сто динаріїв^*, і, схопивши його, душив і казав: віддай мені, що винен.	But that servant went out, and found one of his fellow servants, who owed him a hundred denarii: and he laid hold on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me what thou owest.

Тоді товариш його впав до ніг його, благав його і говорив: потерпи мені, і все віддам тобі.	So his fellow servant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee.
30	30
Але той не захотів, а повів і посадив його у в’язницю, доки не віддасть боргу.	And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay that which was due.
31	31
Товариші його, побачивши таке, дуже засмутилися і, прийшовши, розповіли своєму господареві все, що сталося.	But when his fellow servants saw what was done, they were exceeding sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done.

Тоді господар покликав його і каже: рабе лукавий! Весь той борг я простив тобі, бо ти ублагав мене.	Then his lord called him unto him, and saith to him, Thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou besoughtest me:

Чи не належало й тобі помилувати товариша твого, як і я помилував тебе?	shouldest not thou also have had mercy on thy fellow servant, even as I had mercy on thee?
34	34
І, розгнівавшись, господар віддав його мучителям, доки не віддасть йому всього боргу.	And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.
35	35
Так і Отець Мій Небесний учинить з вами, якщо кожен з вас не простить від серця свого братові своєму провини його.	So shall also my heavenly Father do unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.
Глава 19	Chapter 19

1	1
Коли Ісус скінчив слова ці, то вийшов з Галилеї і прийшов у землі Юдейські, що за Йорданом.	And it came to pass when Jesus had finished these words, he departed from Galilee, and came into the borders of Judea beyond the Jordan;
2	2
За Ним пішло багато людей, і Він зцілив їх там.	and great multitudes followed him; and he healed them there.
3	3
І приступили до Нього фарисеї і, спокушаючи Його, говорили Йому: чи за всяку провину дозволено чоловікові розводитися з жінкою своєю?	And the Pharisees came unto him, trying him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?
4	4
Він сказав їм у відповідь: чи не читали ви, що Той, Хто створив на початку, чоловіком і жінкою створив їх?	And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he who made them from the beginning made them male and female,
5	5
І сказав: заради цього залишить чоловік батька свого й матір і з’єднається з жінкою своєю, і будуть обоє однією плоттю.	and said, For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife; and the two shall become one flesh?

Тож вони вже не двоє, але одна плоть. Отже, що Бог з’єднав, того людина нехай не розлучає.	So that they are no more two, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

Вони кажуть Йому: чому ж Мойсей заповідав дати розвідний лист і відпустити її?	They say unto him, Why then did Moses command to give a bill of divorcement, and to put her away?

Він говорить їм: Мойсей через жорстокість серця вашого дозволив вам розводитися з жінками вашими; а спочатку не було так.	He saith unto them, Moses for your hardness of heart suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it hath not been so.

Я ж кажу вам: хто розведеться з жінкою своєю, за винятком вини перелюбу, і візьме шлюб з іншою, той перелюбствує; і хто одружиться з відпущеною, той чинить перелюб.	And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and he that marrieth her when she is put away committeth adultery.

Ученики Його говорять Йому: якщо така повинність чоловіка перед жінкою, то краще не женитись.	His disciples say unto him, If the case of the man is so with his wife, it is not expedient to marry.

Він каже їм: не всі сприймають це слово, а кому дано.	But he said unto them, Not all men can receive this saying, but they to whom it is given.

Бо є скопці, що з утроби матері народилися такими; і є скопці, які оскоплені людьми; і є скопці, котрі самі себе зробили скопцями заради Царства Небесного. Хто може вмістити, нехай вмістить.	For there are eunuchs, that were so born from their mother’s womb: and there are eunuchs, that were made eunuchs by men: and there are eunuchs, that made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven’s sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.

Тоді привели до Нього дітей, щоб Він поклав на них руки і помолився, ученики ж не дозволяли їм.	Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should lay his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them.
14	14
Але Ісус сказав: облиште дітей і не забороняйте їм приходити до Мене, бо таких є Царство Небесне.	But Jesus said, Suffer the little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for to such belongeth the kingdom of heaven.
15	15
І, поклавши на них руки, пішов звідти.	And he laid his hands on them, and departed thence.
16	16
І ось хтось, підійшовши, сказав Йому: Учителю Благий, що зробити мені доброго, щоб мати життя вічне?	And behold, one came and said unto him, Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
17	17
Він же сказав йому: чому ти називаєш Мене благим? Ніхто не благий, тільки один Бог. Якщо ж хочеш увійти в життя вічне, дотримуйся заповідей.	And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? None is good save one, even God: but if thou wouldest enter into life, keep the commandments.

Говорить Йому: яких? Ісус же сказав: не вбивай; не чини перелюбу; не кради; не лжесвідчи;	He saith unto him, Which? And Jesus said, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,
19	19
шануй батька й матір; і люби ближнього твого, як самого себе.	Honor thy father and thy mother; and, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.
20	20
Юнак говорить Йому: все це я зберіг від юности моєї; чого ще не вистачає мені?	The young man saith unto him, All these things have I observed from my youth: what lack I yet?
21	21
Ісус сказав йому: коли хочеш бути досконалим, піди продай добро твоє і роздай убогим; і матимеш скарб на небесах; і приходь та йди слідом за Мною.	Jesus said unto him, If thou wouldest be perfect, go, sell that which thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

Почувши слово те, юнак відійшов у скорботі, бо мав багато добра.	But when the young man heard the saying, he went away sorrowful; for he was one that had great possessions.
23	23
Ісус же сказав ученикам Своїм: істинно кажу вам, що тяжко багатому ввійти у Царство Небесне.	And Jesus said unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, It is hard for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of heaven.
24	24
І ще кажу вам: легше верблюдові пройти крізь вушко голки, ніж багатому в Царство Боже ввійти.	And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through a needle’s eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
25	25
Почувши це, ученики Його дуже здивувались і сказали: так хто ж може спастися?	And when his disciples heard it, they were astonished exceedingly, saying, Who then can be saved?
26	26
Ісус, поглянувши, сказав їм: людям це неможливо, Богові ж усе можливо.	And Jesus looking upon them said to them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
27	27
Тоді Петро, відповідаючи, сказав Йому: ось ми залишили все і пішли слідом за Тобою, що ж нам буде?	Then answered Peter and said unto him, Lo, we have left all, and followed thee; what then shall we have?

Ісус же сказав їм: істинно говорю вам, що ви, які пішли за Мною, при відновленні світу, коли Син Людський сяде на престолі слави Своєї, сядете і ви на дванадцяти престолах судити дванадцять колін Ізраїлевих.	And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, that ye who have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit on the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

І всякий, хто залишить дім, або братів, або сестер, або батька, або матір, або жінку, або дітей, або землі заради імені Мого, одержить у стократ і успадкує життя вічне.	And everyone that hath left houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and shall inherit eternal life.

І багато хто з перших будуть останніми, а останні — першими.	But many shall be last that are first; and first that are last.
Глава 20	Chapter 20

Царство Небесне подібне до господаря дому, який вийшов рано вранці наймати робітників для свого виноградника.	For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that was a householder, who went out early in the morning to hire laborers into his vineyard.

І, домовившись з робітниками по динарію за день, послав їх до свого виноградника.	And when he had agreed with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard.
3	3
А коли вийшов він близько третьої години, то побачив інших, що стояли на торгу без діла.	And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing in the marketplace idle;
4	4
І сказав їм: ідіть і ви до мого виноградника, і, що належатиме, дам вам. Вони пішли.	and to them he said, Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you.
5	5
А як вийшов він знову близько шостої і дев’ятої години, зробив так само.	And they went their way. Again he went out about the sixth and the ninth hour, and did likewise.

Нарешті, вийшовши об одинадцятій годині, він знайшов інших, що стояли без діла, і говорить їм: чого тут стоїте цілий день без діла?	And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing idle; and he saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle?

Вони кажуть йому: ніхто нас не найняв. Він говорить їм: ідіть і ви до виноградника мого і, що належатиме, одержите.	They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right ye shall receive.

Коли ж настав вечір, господар виноградника говорить управителеві своєму: поклич робітників і віддай їм плату, почавши з останніх і до перших.	And when even was come, the lord of the vineyard saith unto his steward, Call the laborers, and pay them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first.

І ті, що прийшли об одинадцятій годині, одержали по динарію.	And when they came that were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a denarius.
10	10
Ті ж, які прийшли першими, гадали, що вони одержать більше, але й вони одержали по динарію.	Now when the first came, they supposed that they would receive more; and they likewise received every man a denarius.
11	11
І, одержавши, стали дорікати господареві	And when they received it, they murmured against the householder,
12	12
і говорили: ці останні попрацювали одну годину, і ти зрівняв їх з нами, що перетерпіли денний тягар і спеку.	saying, These last have spent but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat.
13	13
Він же сказав у відповідь одному з них: друже, я не скривдив тебе; чи не за динарій ти домовився зі мною?	But he answered and said to one of them, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a denarius?
14	14
Візьми своє та йди. Я ж хочу і цьому останньому дати те ж, що і тобі.	Take up that which is thine, and go thy way; it is my will to give unto this last, even as unto thee.
15	15
Хіба я не вільний по-своєму робити те, що хочу? Чи око твоє заздрісне через те, що я добрий?	Or is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil, because I am good?
16	16
Так будуть останні першими, і перші — останніми; бо багато покликаних, та мало обраних.	So the last shall be first, and the first last. For many are called, but few chosen.
17	17
Ідучи до Єрусалима, Ісус узяв дванадцять учеників окремо, і дорогою сказав їм:	And as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples apart in the way, and he said unto them,
18	18
ось ми йдемо до Єрусалима, і Син Людський буде виданий первосвященикам і книжникам, і вони засудять Його на смерть;	Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the chief priests and scribes; and they shall condemn him to death,
19	19
і віддадуть Його язичникам на ганьбу, і побиття, і розп’яття; і на третій день воскресне.	and shall deliver him unto the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify: and the third day he shall rise again.
20	20
Тоді підійшла до Нього мати синів Зеведеєвих з синами своїми і, вклоняючись, просила чогось у Нього.	Then came to him the mother of the sons of Zebedee with her sons, worshiping him, and asking a certain thing of him.
21	21
Він сказав їй: чого ти хочеш? Вона говорить Йому: скажи, щоб ці два сини мої сіли в Тебе один з правого боку, а другий з лівого у Царстві Твоїм.	And he said unto her, What wouldest thou? She saith unto him, Command that these my two sons may sit, one on thy right hand, and one on thy left hand, in thy kingdom.

Ісус сказав у відповідь: не знаєте, чого просите. Чи можете пити чашу, яку Я маю пити, і хреститись хрещенням, яким Я хрещуся? Вони кажуть Йому: можемо.	But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink the cup that I am about to drink? or to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able.

І говорить їм: чашу Мою будете пити, і хрещенням, яким Я хрещусь, будете хреститися; а дати сісти від Мене праворуч і ліворуч — не від Мене залежить, а кому уготоване Отцем Моїм.	And he saith unto them, My cup indeed ye shall drink; and with the baptism that I am baptized withal shall ye be baptized: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left hand, is not mine to give; but it is for them for whom it hath been prepared of my Father.

Почувши це, інші десять учеників обурились на обох братів.	And when the ten heard it, they were moved with indignation concerning the two brethren.
25	25
Ісус же, підізвавши їх, сказав: ви знаєте, що князі народів панують над ними, і вельможі володіють ними.	But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them.
26	26
Не так буде у вас: але хто хоче між вами бути більшим, нехай буде вам слугою.	But it shall not be so be among you: but whosoever would become great among you shall be your minister;
27	27

І ось двоє сліпих, що сиділи при дорозі, почувши, що Ісус наближається, почали кричати: помилуй нас, Господи, Сину Давидів!	And behold, two blind men sitting by the wayside, when they heard that Jesus was passing by, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, Lord, thou son of David.

Народ же примушував їх мовчати; але вони ще голосніше почали кричати: помилуй нас, Господи, Сину Давидів!	And the multitude rebuked them, that they should hold their peace: but they cried out the more, saying, Have mercy on us, Lord, thou son of David.

Ісус, зупинившись, підізвав їх і сказав: що хочете, щоб Я зробив вам?	And Jesus stood still, and called them, and said, What will ye that I should do unto you?

Вони говорять Йому: Господи, щоб відкрились очі наші.	They say unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened.

Ісус же, змилосердившись, доторкнувся до їхніх очей; і в ту ж мить прозріли очі їхні, і вони пішли за Ним.	And Jesus, being moved with compassion, touched their eyes; and straightaway their eyes received sight, and they followed him.
Глава 21	Chapter 21

1	1
І коли наблизились до Єрусалима і прийшли у Виффагію до гори Елеонської, тоді Ісус послав двох учеників	And when they drew nigh unto Jerusalem, and came unto Bethsphage, at the mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples,

і сказав їм: підіть у село, що прямо перед вами, і зразу знайдете прив’язану ослицю і з нею осля; відв’яжіть і приведіть до Мене.	saying unto them, Go into the village that is over against you, and straightaway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me.

І якщо хто скаже вам що-небудь, відповідайте, що вони потрібні Господеві; і одразу ж відішле їх.	And if anyone say aught unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them; and straightaway he sendeth them.

Усе ж це було, щоб збулося сказане пророком, який говорить:	Now all this is come to pass, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophet, saying,

скажіть дочці Сионовій: ось Цар твій гряде до тебе лагідний, сидячи на ослиці й осляті, синові під’яремної.	Tell ye the daughter of Zion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, Meek, and riding upon an ass, And a colt the foal of an ass.

Ученики пішли і зробили так, як сказав їм Ісус:	And the disciples went, and did even as Jesus commanded them,

привели ослицю й осля і поклали на них одяг свій, і Він сів поверх нього.	and brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their garments; and he sat thereon.
8	8
Безліч людей розстилали одяг свій по дорозі, а інші різали гілки з дерев і стелили по дорозі.	And the most part of the multitude spread their own garments in the way; and others cut branches from the trees, and spread them in the way.
9	9
Люди ж, що йшли попереду і слідом, виголошували: осанна^* Синові Давидовому! Благословен, Хто йде в ім’я Господнє! Осанна у вишніх!	And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.

І коли увійшов Він у Єрусалим, все місто заворушилось і заговорило: Хто це такий?	And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was stirred, saying, Who is this?

Народ же говорив: Цей є Ісус, Пророк із Назарета галилейського.	And the multitudes said, This is Jesus the prophet, who is from Nazareth of Galilee.

І увійшов Ісус у храм Божий і вигнав усіх, що продавали і купували в храмі, і поперевертав столи міняйл і лави тих, що продавали голубів.	And Jesus entered into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the money-changers, and the seats of them that sold the doves;

І сказав їм: дім Мій домом молитви назветься; а ви зробили його вертепом розбійників.	and he saith unto them, It is written, My house shall be called a house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of robbers.

І приступили до Нього в храмі сліпі й криві, і Він зцілив їх.	And the lame and the blind came to him in the temple; and he healed them.
15	15
А первосвященики і книжники, побачивши чудеса, які Він створив, і дітей, які виголошували в храмі: осанна Синові Давидовому, обурились	But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple and saying, Hosanna to the son of David; they were moved with indignation,
16	16
і сказали Йому: чи чуєш, що вони говорять? Ісус відповів їм: так, невже ви ніколи не читали: з уст немовлят і дітей Ти створив хвалу?	and said unto him, Hearest thou what these are saying? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea: did ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?

І, залишивши їх, вийшов геть з міста у Вифанію і пробув там ніч.	And he left them, and went forth out of the city to Bethany, and lodged there.

Вранці ж, повертаючись у місто, зголоднів.	Now in the morning as he returned to the city, he hungered.

Побачивши біля дороги одну смоковницю, підійшов до неї і, нічого не знайшовши на ній, крім самого листя, говорить їй: нехай не буде надалі від тебе плоду повік. І смоковниця відразу всохла.	And seeing a fig tree by the wayside, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only; and he saith unto it, Let there be no fruit from thee henceforward forever. And immediately the fig tree withered away.

Побачивши це, ученики здивувались і говорили: як це — відразу ж всохла смоковниця?	And when the disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, How did the fig tree immediately wither away?
21	21
Ісус же сказав їм у відповідь: істинно кажу вам, якщо будете мати віру і не засумніваєтеся, то не тільки зробите те, що сталося із смоковницею, але, якщо і горі цій скажете: піднімись і кинься в море, буде;	And Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do what is done to the fig tree, but even if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou taken up and cast into the sea, it shall be done.

і все, чого не попросите в молитві з вірою, одержите.	And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

І коли Він прийшов у храм і навчав, приступили до Нього первосвященики і старійшини народу і сказали: якою владою Ти це робиш? І хто Тобі дав таку владу?	And when he was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority?

Ісус сказав їм у відповідь: запитаю і Я вас про одне, коли про те скажете Мені, то і Я вам скажу, якою владою це роблю.	And Jesus answered and said unto them, I also will ask you one question, which if ye tell me, I likewise will tell you by what authority I do these things.

Хрещення Іоанове звідки було: з небес чи від людей? Вони ж міркували між собою: якщо скажемо, що з небес, то Він скаже нам: чому ж ви не повірили йому?	The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven or from men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say unto us, Why then did ye not believe him?

А якщо сказати, що від людей, то боїмось народу, бо всі мають Іоана за пророка.	But if we shall say, From men; we fear the multitude; for all hold John as a prophet.

І відповіли Ісусові: не знаємо. Сказав їм і Він: і Я вам не скажу, якою владою це роблю.	And they answered Jesus, and said, We know not. He also said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.

А як вам здається? В одного чоловіка було два сини; і він, підійшовши до першого, сказав: сину, піди сьогодні попрацюй у винограднику моєму.	But what think ye? A man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work today in my vineyard.

Але той сказав у відповідь: не хочу. Але згодом, розкаявшись, пішов.	And he answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented himself, and went.
30	30
І, підійшовши до другого, він сказав те саме. Цей сказав у відповідь: іду, господарю, — та не пішов.	And he came to the other, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not.

Котрий з цих двох виконав волю батька? Кажуть Йому: перший. Ісус говорить їм: істинно кажу вам, що митарі і блудниці поперед вас йдуть у Царство Боже.	Which of the two did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, that the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.

Бо прийшов до вас Іоан Хреститель дорогою праведности, і ви не повірили йому, а митарі та блудниці повірили йому; ви ж, і бачивши це, не розкаялися і потім, щоб повірити йому.	For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not; but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye saw it, repented not yourselves afterward, that ye might believe him.

Вислухайте іншу притчу. Був якийсь господар дому, який посадив виноградник і обніс його огорожею, викопав у ньому виностік, збудував башту і, віддавши його виноградарям, від’їхав.	Hear another parable: There was a certain man that was a householder, who planted a vineyard, and set a hedge about it, and dug a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into another country.

Коли ж наблизився час плодів, він послав своїх слуг до виноградарів узяти свої плоди.	And when the season of the fruits drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, to receive his fruits.

Виноградарі, схопивши слуг його, кого побили, кого вбили, а кого побили камінням.	And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another.

Знову послав він інших слуг, більше, ніж перше; і з ними зробили так само.	Again, he sent other servants more than the first: and they did unto them in like manner.

Наостанок послав він до них свого сина, кажучи: посоромляться сина мого.	But afterward he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son.

Але виноградарі, побачивши сина, сказали один одному: це спадкоємець, ходімо уб’ємо його і заволодіємо спадщиною його.	But the husbandmen, when they saw the son, said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and take his inheritance.

І, схопивши його, вивели геть з виноградника і вбили.	And they took him, and cast him forth out of the vineyard, and killed him.
40	40
Отже, коли прийде господар виноградника, що він зробить з цими виноградарями?	When therefore the lord of the vineyard shall come, what will he do unto those husbandmen?

Говорять Йому: злочинців цих покарає смертю, а виноградник віддасть іншим виноградарям, які віддаватимуть йому плоди своєчасно.	They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those miserable men, and will let out the vineyard unto other husbandmen, who shall render him the fruits in their seasons.

Ісус говорить їм: невже ви ніколи не читали в Писанні: камінь, який відкинули будівничі, той самий став наріжним каменем? Це від Господа, і дивне в очах наших.	Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, The same was made the head of the corner; This was from the Lord, And it is marvelous in our eyes?

Тому кажу вам, що відбереться від вас Царство Боже і дане буде народові, який буде приносити плоди його.	Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken away from you, and shall be given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.

І той, хто впаде на камінь цей, розіб’ється, а на кого він упаде, того розчавить.	And he that falleth on this stone shall be broken to pieces: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will scatter him as dust.

І, слухаючи притчі Його, первосвященики і фарисеї зрозуміли, що Він про них говорить.	And when the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they perceived that he spake of them.

І шукали нагоди схопити Його, але побоялися народу, бо Його мали за Пророка.	And when they sought to lay hold on him, they feared the multitudes, because they took him for a prophet.
Глава 22	Chapter 22

1	1
Ісус, продовжуючи говорити їм притчами, сказав:	And Jesus answered and spake unto them again in parables, saying,

Царство Небесне подібне до чоловіка-царя, який справляв весілля синові своєму.	The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a certain king, who made a marriage feast for his son,
3	3
І послав рабів своїх покликати запрошених на весілля; і не схотіли прийти.	and sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the marriage feast: and they would not come.
4	4
Знову послав інших рабів, говорячи: скажіть званим: ось я приготував мій обід, телят моїх і, що відгодоване, заколоте, і все готове; приходьте на весілля.	Again he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them that are bidden, Behold, I have made ready my dinner; my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come to the marriage feast.

Але вони, знехтувавши те, пішли, хто на своє поле, а хто на свої торги.	But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his merchandise;

Інші ж, схопивши рабів його, скривдили і вбили їх.	and the rest laid hold on his servants, and treated them shamefully, and killed them.

Почувши про це, цар розгнівався і, пославши військо своє, винищив тих убивць і спалив місто їхнє.	And when that king heard thereof, he was wroth; and he sent his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.

Тоді говорить він рабам своїм: весілля готове, а покликані не були достойні.	Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they that were bidden were not worthy.
9	9
Отже, ідіть на роздоріжжя і всіх, кого знайдете, кличте на весілля.	Go ye therefore unto the partings of the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage feast.

І раби ті, вийшовши на дороги, зібрали всіх, кого тільки знайшли, і злих і добрих; і весілля наповнилося гістьми.	And those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was filled with guests.

Цар, увійшовши подивитись на гостей, побачив там чоловіка, вбраного не у весільний одяг.	But when the king came in to behold the guests, he saw there a man who had not on a wedding garment:

І каже йому: друже, чому ти ввійшов сюди, не маючи весільного одягу? Він же мовчав.	and he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.

Тоді цар сказав слугам: зв’язавши йому руки і ноги, візьміть його і киньте у пітьму непроглядну: там буде плач і скрегіт зубів.	Then said the king to the servants, Bind his feet and hands, take him away, and cast him out into the outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Бо багато покликаних, та мало обраних.	For many are called, but few chosen.
15	15
Тоді фарисеї пішли і радились, як би впіймати Його на слові.	Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might ensnare him in his talk.

І посилають до Нього своїх учнів з іродіанами, кажучи: Учителю! Ми знаємо, що Ти справедливий і істинно путі Божої вчиш, і не прагнеш будь-кому догодити, бо не зважаєш ні на яку особу.	And they send to him their disciples, with the Herodians, saying, Teacher, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, and carest not for anyone: for thou regardest not the person of men.

Отже, скажи нам, як Тобі здається, чи годиться платити подать кесареві, чи ні?	Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not?

Ісус же, знаючи їхнє лукавство, сказав: чого спокушаєте Мене, лицеміри?	But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why make ye trial of me, ye hypocrites?

Покажіть Мені монету, якою платиться податок. Вони принесли Йому динарій.	Show me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a denarius.
20	20
І говорить їм: чиє це зображення і напис?	And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription?

Кажуть Йому: кесаря. Тоді говорить їм: отже, віддавайте кесареве кесареві, а Боже — Богові.	They say unto him, Caesar’s. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s.

Почувши це, вони здивувалися і, залишивши Його, відійшли.	And when they heard it, they marveled, and left him, and went away.

В той день приступили до Нього саддукеї, які говорять, що не існує воскресіння, і запитали Його:	On that day there came to him the Sadducees, they that say that there is no resurrection: and they asked him,

Учителю! Мойсей сказав: коли хто помре, не маючи дітей, то брат його нехай візьме жінку його і відродить потомство брата свого.	saying, Teacher, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.

Було в нас сім братів; перший, одружившись, помер і, не маючи дітей, лишив жінку свою братові своєму.	Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first married and deceased, and having no seed left his wife unto his brother;

Так само і другий, і третій, навіть до сьомого.	in like manner the second also, and the third, unto the seventh.

А після всіх померла і жінка.	And after them all, the woman also died.

Отже, після воскресіння, котрого з семи буде вона жінкою? Бо всі мали її.	Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her.

Ісус сказав їм у відповідь: помиляєтесь, не знаючи ні Писання, ні сили Божої.	But Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.

Бо після воскресіння не женяться, не виходять заміж, а перебувають як ангели Божі на небесах.	For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as angels of God in heaven.

А про воскресіння мертвих, невже не читали ви сказаного вам Богом:	But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying,

Я Бог Авраама, і Бог Ісаака, і Бог Якова. Бог не є Бог мертвих, а живих.	I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not God of the dead, but of the living.

І, чуючи, народ дивувався вченню Його.	And when the multitudes heard it, they were astonished at his teaching.

А фарисеї, почувши, що Він посоромив саддукеїв, зібралися разом.	But the Pharisees, when they heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, gathered themselves together.

І один з них, законник, спокушаючи Його, запитав, кажучи:	And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, trying him, and saying,

Учителю, яка заповідь найбільша в законі?	Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?

Ісус сказав йому: полюби Господа Бога твого всім серцем твоїм, і всією душею твоєю, і всією думкою твоєю.	And Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

Це є перша і найбільша заповідь.	This is the first and great commandment.

Друга ж подібна до неї: люби ближнього твого, як самого себе.	And a second like it is this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.

На цих двох заповідях утверджується весь Закон і Пророки.	On these two commandments hang the whole law and the prophets.

Коли зібралися фарисеї, Ісус спитав їх:	Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question,

що ви думаєте про Христа, чий Він Син? Кажуть Йому: Давидів.	saying, What think ye of the Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The son of David.

Говорить їм: то як же Давид, у Дусі Божому, зве Його Господом, кажучи:	He saith unto them, How then doth David in the Spirit call him Lord, saying,

сказав Господь Господеві моєму: сиди праворуч Мене, доки покладу ворогів Твоїх підніжжям ніг Твоїх.	The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, Till I make thine enemies the footstool of thy feet?

Отже, якщо Давид зве Його Господом, то як же Він син йому?	If David then calleth him Lord, how is he his son?

І ніхто не зміг відповісти Йому ні слова; і з того дня ніхто вже не смів запитувати Його.	And no one was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.
Глава 23	Chapter 23

Тоді Ісус промовив до народу і учеників Своїх,	Then spake Jesus to the multitudes and to his disciples,

кажучи: на Мойсеєвому сидінні сіли книжники та фарисеї.	saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat:

Отже, все, що кажуть вам додержувати, додержуйте і робіть; а за ділами їхніми не робіть, бо вони говорять і не роблять.	all things therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, these observe and do: but do not ye after their works; for they say, and do not.
4	4
Зв’язують важкі тягарі, які неможливо носити, і кладуть їх людям на плечі; самі ж і пальцем своїм не хочуть зрушити їх.	For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they will not move them with their finger.
5	5
Всі ж діла свої роблять так, щоб їх бачили люди: розширюють пов’язки^* свої і подовжують край одежі своєї.	But all their works they do to be seen of men: and they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,
6	6
Також люблять возлежати на перших місцях на вечерях і сидіти на перших місцях у синагогах;	and love the chief place at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,
7	7
і вітання на торжищах, та щоб люди звали їх: учителю, учителю!	and the salutations in the marketplaces, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.

Ви ж не називайтесь учителями, бо один у вас Учитель — Христос; усі ж ви — браття.	But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your master, even Christ, and all ye are brethren.
9	9
І отцем не називайте собі нікого на землі, бо один у вас Отець, Який на небесах.	And call no man your father on the earth: for one is your Father, even he who is in heaven.
10	10
І не називайтесь наставниками, бо один у вас Наставник — Христос.	Neither be ye called masters: for one is your master, even the Christ.
11	11
Більший же з вас нехай буде вам слугою.	But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.
12	12
Бо хто підносить себе, той принижений буде, а хто понижує себе, той піднесеться.	And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be humbled; and whosoever shall humble himself shall be exalted.
13	13
Горе вам, книжники і фарисеї, лицеміри, що зачиняєте Царство Небесне перед людьми, бо ви і самі не входите, і тим, хто входить, не даєте увійти.	But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows’ houses, even while for a pretense ye make long prayers: therefore ye shall receive greater condemnation.

Горе вам, книжники і фарисеї, лицеміри, що поїдаєте доми вдовиць, напоказ довго молитесь: за те ще більший осуд приймете.	Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye enter not in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering in to enter.

Горе вам, книжники і фарисеї, лицеміри, що обходите море і сушу, щоб навернути хоч одного; і коли це станеться, робите його сином геєни, удвічі гіршим за вас.	Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he is become so, ye make him twofold more a son of hell than yourselves.

Горе вам, вожді сліпі, які говорять: якщо хто поклянеться храмом, то нічого, а якщо хто поклянеться золотом храму, той винний.	Woe unto you, ye blind guides, that say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor.

Безумні і сліпі! Що більше: золото чи храм, який освячує золото?	Ye fools and blind: for which is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold?

І ще, коли хто поклянеться жертовником, то нічого, а якщо хто поклянеться даром, що на ньому, той винний.	And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gift that is upon it, he is a debtor.
19	19
Безумні і сліпі! Що більше: дар чи жертовник, який освячує дар?	Ye fools and blind: for which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift?
20	20
Отже, хто клянеться жертовником, клянеться ним і всім, що на ньому.	He therefore that sweareth by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon.

І хто клянеться храмом, клянеться ним і Тим, Хто живе в ньому.	And he that sweareth by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that hath dwelt therein.

І хто клянеться небом, клянеться Престолом Божим і Тим, Хто сидить на ньому.	And he that sweareth by the heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon.

Горе вам, книжники і фарисеї, лицеміри, що даєте десятину^* з м’яти, кропу і кмину, а облишили те, що є найважливіше в законі: суд, милість і віру; це належало робити, і того не залишати.	Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye tithe mint and anise and cumin, and have left undone the weightier matters of the law, justice, and mercy, and faith: these ye ought to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

Вожді сліпі, що відціджуєте комара, а верблюда поглинаєте!	Ye blind guides, that strain out the gnat, and swallow the camel!

Горе вам, книжники і фарисеї, лицеміри, що очищаєте зовні чаші і блюда, тоді як усередині вони повні злодійства і неправди.	Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye cleanse the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full from extortion and unrighteousness.

Фарисею сліпий, очисть перше всередині чаші і блюда, щоб чистими були і зовні вони.	Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first the inside of the cup and of the platter, that the outside of them may become clean also.

Горе вам, книжники і фарисеї, лицеміри, що уподібнюєтесь розмальованим гробам, які зовні здаються гарними, а всередині повні кісток мертвих і всякої нечистоти.	Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchers, which outwardly appear beautiful, but inwardly are full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness.

Так і ви на вигляд здаєтесь людям праведними, а всередині повні лицемірства і беззаконня.	Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but inwardly ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

Горе вам, книжники і фарисеї, лицеміри, що будуєте гробниці пророкам і оздоблюєте пам’ятники праведникам,	Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye build the sepulchers of the prophets, and garnish the tombs of the righteous,

і говорите: якби ми були у дні батьків наших, то не були б спільниками їхніми у проливанні крови пророків.	and say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we should not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.
31	31
Тим ви самі свідчите проти себе, що ви сини тих, які вбивали пророків.	Wherefore ye witness to yourselves, that ye are sons of them that slew the prophets.

І ви доповнюєте міру зла батьків ваших.	Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.

Змії, поріддя єхиднове! Як утечете ви від суду вогню геєнського?	Ye serpents, ye offspring of vipers, how shall ye escape the judgment of hell?

Тому ось Я посилаю до вас пророків, і мудрих, і книжників. І ви одних уб’єте і розіпнете, а інших будете бити в синагогах ваших і гнати з міста до міста.	Therefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them shall ye kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city:

Нехай прийде на вас уся кров праведна, пролита на землі, від крови Авеля праведного до крови Захарії, сина Варахії, якого вбили між храмом і жертовником.	that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of Abel the righteous unto the blood of Zechariah son of Barachiah, whom ye slew between the sanctuary and the altar.

Істинно кажу вам, що все це прийде на рід цей.	Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.

Єрусалиме, Єрусалиме, що вбиваєш пророків і камінням побиваєш посланих до тебе! Скільки разів хотів Я зібрати дітей твоїх, як птах збирає пташенят своїх під крила, і ви не схотіли!	O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killeth the prophets, and stoneth them that are sent unto her! how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chicks under her wings, and ye would not!

Ось лишається вам дім ваш пустий.	Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.

Бо кажу вам: не побачите Мене віднині, доки не скажете: благословен, Хто йде в ім’я Господнє!	For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
Глава 24	Chapter 24

І, вийшовши, Ісус пішов від храму; і підійшли до Нього ученики Його, щоб показати Йому будівлі храму.	And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple; and his disciples came to him to show him the buildings of the temple.
2	2
Ісус же сказав їм: чи бачите все це? Істинно кажу вам: не залишиться тут каменя на камені, все буде зруйновано.	But Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
3	3
Коли ж сидів Він на горі Елеонській, то приступили до Нього ученики на самоті і спитали: скажи нам, коли це буде і яке знамення Твого пришестя і кінця віку?	And as he sat on the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?

Ісус сказав їм у відповідь: стережіться, щоб хто не спокусив вас,	And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man lead you astray.

бо багато хто прийде під іменем Моїм і казатиме: «я Христос», і багатьох спокусять.	For many shall come in my name, saying, I am the Christ; and shall lead many astray.

Також почуєте про війни і чутки про війни. Глядіть, не жахайтесь, бо належить усьому тому бути, та це ще не кінець.	And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars; see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must needs come to pass; but the end is not yet.

Постане бо народ на народ, і царство на царство; і будуть голод, моровиці і землетруси у різних місцях;	For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes in diverse places.
8	8
усе ж це — лиш початок хвороб.	But all these things are the beginning of travail.
9	9
Тоді видаватимуть вас на муки і вбиватимуть вас; і вас зненавидять усі народи через ім’я Моє.	Then shall they deliver you up unto tribulation, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all the nations for my name’s sake.
10	10
І тоді багато хто спокуситься, і видаватимуть один одного, і зненавидять один одного;	And then shall many stumble, and shall deliver up one another, and shall hate one another.
11	11
і багато лжепророків з’явиться і багатьох спокусять;	And many false prophets shall arise, and shall lead many astray.
12	12
і через збільшення беззаконь охолоне любов у багатьох.	And because iniquity shall be multiplied, the love of the many shall wax cold.
13	13
Хто ж витерпить до кінця, той спасеться.	But he that endureth to the end, the same shall be saved.
14	14
І буде проповідане це Євангеліє Царства по всьому світу, на свідчення усім народам; і тоді прийде кінець!	And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world for a testimony unto all the nations; and then shall the end come.
15	15
Отже, коли побачите мерзоту запустіння, провіщену пророком Даниїлом, яка стоїть на святому місці, — хто читає, нехай розуміє, —	When therefore ye see the abomination of desolation, which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let him that readeth understand),
16	16
тоді, хто буде в Юдеї, нехай біжить у гори.	then let them that are in Judea flee unto the mountains:
17	17
І хто на покрівлі, той нехай не сходить взяти що-небудь з дому свого;	let him that is on the housetop not go down to take out the things that are in his house:
18	18
і хто на полі, той нехай не вертається взяти одяг свій.	and let him that is in the field not return back to take his garments.
19	19
Горе ж вагітним і матерям-годувальницям у ті дні!	But woe unto them that are with child and to them that give suck in those days!
20	20
Моліться ж, щоб не сталася втеча ваша взимку або в суботу,	And pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on a sabbath:
21	21
бо тоді буде велика скорбота, якої не було від початку світу донині і не буде.	for then shall be great tribulation, such as hath not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, nor ever shall be.
22	22
І якби не вкоротилися ті дні, то не спаслась би ніяка плоть; але заради обраних скоротяться ті дні.	And except those days had been shortened, no flesh would have been saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.
23	23
Тоді, якщо хто скаже вам: ось тут Христос, або: отам, не йміть віри.	Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is the Christ, or, Here; believe it not.
24	24
Бо встануть лжехристи і лжепророки і покажуть великі знамення і чудеса, щоб звабити, якщо можливо, і обраних.	For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders; so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.
25	25
Ось Я наперед сказав вам.	Behold, I have told you beforehand.
26	26
Отже, коли скажуть вам: «ось Він у пустелі», — не виходьте; «ось Він у потаємних кімнатах», — не йміть віри.	If therefore they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the wilderness; go not forth: Behold, he is in the inner chambers; believe it not.
27	27
Бо, як блискавиця виходить зі сходу і з’являється аж до заходу, так буде пришестя Сина Людського.	For as the lightning cometh forth from the east, and is seen even unto the west; so shall be the coming of the Son of man.
28	28
Бо де буде труп, там зберуться орли.	For wheresoever the carcass is, there will the eagles be gathered together.
29	29
І враз, після скорботи тих днів, сонце померкне, і місяць не дасть світла свого, і зірки спадуть з неба, і сили небесні захитаються.	But immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

І тоді з’явиться знамення Сина Людського на небі; і заплачуть всі племена земні і побачать Сина Людського, Який гряде на хмарах небесних з силою і славою великою.	and then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
31	31
І пошле ангелів Своїх з сурмою гучноголосою; і зберуть обраних Його від чотирьох вітрів, від краю небес до кінця їх.	And he shall send forth his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
32	32
Від смоковниці навчіться притчі: коли гілля її стає вже м’яким і пускає листя, то знаєте, що близько літо.	Now from the fig tree learn her parable: when her branch is now become tender, and putteth forth its leaves, ye know that the summer is nigh;
33	33
Так само і ви: коли побачите все це, знайте, що близько, при дверях.	even so ye also, when ye see all these things, know ye that he is nigh, even at the doors.
34	34
Істинно кажу вам: не перейде рід цей, як усе це буде.	Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all these things be accomplished.
35	35
Небо і земля перейдуть, слова ж Мої не перейдуть.	Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
36	36
Про день же той і годину ніхто не знає, ні ангели небесні, а тільки Отець Мій один.	But of that day and hour knoweth no one, not even the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
37	37
Але, як було у дні Ноя, так буде і в пришестя Сина Людського;	And as were the days of Noah, so also shall be the coming of the Son of man.
38	38
бо, як у дні перед потопом їли, пили, женились і виходили заміж аж до того дня, як увійшов Ной у ковчег,	For as in the days which were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark,
39	39
і не думали, поки не прийшов потоп і не забрав усіх, — так буде і в пришестя Сина Людського.	and they knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so also shall be the coming of the Son of man.
40	40
Тоді з двох, що будуть у полі, одного буде забрано, а другого залишено;	Then shall two men be in the field; the one is taken, and the one is left:
41	41
дві, що мелють на жорнах: одну буде забрано, а другу залишено.	two women shall be grinding at the mill; one is taken, and one is left.
42	42
Отже, пильнуйте, бо не знаєте, в яку годину Господь ваш прийде.	Watch therefore: for ye know not in what hour your Lord cometh.
43	43
Але це ви знайте, що, якби знав господар дому, у яку сторожу прийде злодій, то пильнував би і не дав би підкопати дому свого.	But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what watch the thief was coming, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken through.
44	44
Тому і ви будьте готові, бо в ту годину, про яку й не думаєте, прийде Син Людський.	Therefore be ye also ready; for in an hour that ye think not the Son of man cometh.
45	45
Хто ж є вірним і мудрим рабом, якого господар його поставить над слугами своїми, щоб давати їм їжу вчасно?	Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath set over his household, to give them their food in due season?
46	46
Блажен той раб, господар якого, прийшовши, знайде, що він робить так.	Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
47	47
Істинно кажу вам, що над усім добром своїм поставить його.	Verily I say unto you, that he will set him over all that he hath.
48	48
Якщо ж раб той, будучи злим, скаже в серці своїм: не скоро прийде господар мій,	But if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord tarrieth to come;
49	49
і почне бити товаришів своїх, їсти й пити з п’яницями, —	and shall begin to beat his fellow servants, and to eat and to drink with the drunken;
50	50
то прийде господар раба того в той день, в який він не сподівається, і в годину, про яку не знає.	the lord of that servant shall come in a day when he expecteth not, and in an hour when he knoweth not,
51	51
І розсіче його і визначить йому одну долю з лицемірами; там буде плач і скрегіт зубів.	and shall cut him asunder, and appoint his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Глава 25	Chapter 25

1	1
Тоді уподібниться Царство Небесне десятьом дівам, які, взявши світильники свої, вийшли назустріч женихові.	Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, who took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.
2	2
П’ять з них були мудрі, а п’ять — нерозумні.	And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.
3	3
Нерозумні, взявши світильники свої, не взяли з собою оливи.	They that were foolish, when they took their lamps, took no oil with them:
4	4
Мудрі ж взяли оливи в посудинах разом із світильниками своїми.	but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
5	5
А оскільки жених забарився, то всі задрімали і поснули.	Now while the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.
6	6
Опівночі ж почувся крик: ось жених іде, виходьте назустріч йому.	But at midnight there is a cry, Behold, the bridegroom cometh! Come ye forth to meet him.
7	7
Тоді встали всі діви та й приготували світильники свої.	Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.
8	8
Нерозумні ж сказали мудрим: дайте нам вашої оливи, бо світильники наші гаснуть.	And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are going out.
9	9
А мудрі відповіли, кажучи: а як і нам, і вам не стане? Ідіть краще до продавців та й купіть собі.	But the wise answered, saying, Peradventure there will not be enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.
10	10
Коли ж пішли вони купувати, прийшов жених, і ті, які були готові, ввійшли з ним на весілля, і двері зачинилися.	And while they went away to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage feast: and the door was shut.
11	11
Пізніше прийшли й інші діви і говорять: Господи! Господи! Відчини нам.	Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.
12	12
Він же сказав їм у відповідь: істинно кажу вам: не знаю вас.	But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.
13	13
Отже, пильнуйте, бо не знаєте ні дня, ні години, коли Син Людський прийде.	Watch therefore, for ye know not the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.
14	14
Так само один чоловік, відходячи, покликав своїх рабів і передав їм майно своє:	For it is as when a man, going into another country, called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.
15	15
одному дав п’ять талантів, другому два, іншому ж один, кожному за спроможністю його, і відразу ж виїхав.	And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one; to each according to his several ability; and straightaway he went on his journey.
16	16
Той раб, який одержав п’ять талантів, пішов і використав їх на діло, і набув інші п’ять талантів.	Then he that received the five talents went and traded with them, and made other five talents.
17	17
Так само і той, який одержав два таланти, набув інші два.	In like manner also he that received the two, he also gained other two.
18	18
А той, який одержав один талант, пішов і закопав його в землю, і заховав срібло господаря свого.	But he that received the one went away and dug in the earth, and hid his lord’s money.
19	19
Коли минуло багато часу, приходить господар рабів тих і вимагає від них звіту.	Now after a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and maketh a reckoning with them.
20	20
Підійшов той, який одержав п’ять талантів, приніс інші п’ять талантів і сказав: господарю, п’ять талантів ти дав мені; ось ще п’ять талантів, які я здобув на них.	And he that received the five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: lo, I have gained other five talents besides them.

Господар його сказав йому: гаразд, добрий і вірний рабе! У малому ти був вірним, над великим тебе поставлю; увійди в радість господаря твого.	And his lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will set thee over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

Підійшов також і той, який одержав два таланти, і сказав: господарю, два таланти ти дав мені; ось інші два таланти, що я здобув на них.	And he also that received the two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: lo, I have gained other two talents besides them.

Господар його сказав йому: гаразд, добрий і вірний рабе! У малому ти був вірним, над великим тебе поставлю; увійди в радість господаря твого.	His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will set thee over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
24	24
Підійшов і той, який одержав один талант, і сказав: господарю! Я знав тебе, як жорстоку людину, жнеш, де не сіяв, і збираєш, де не розсипав;	And he also that had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art a hard man, reaping where thou didst not sow, and gathering where thou didst not scatter;
25	25
і, побоявшись, пішов і заховав талант твій у землю; ось тобі твоє.	and I was afraid, and went away and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, thou hast thine own.
26	26
Господар його сказав йому у відповідь: лукавий рабе і лінивий! Ти знав, що я жну, де не сіяв, і збираю, де не розсипав;	But his lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I did not scatter;
27	27
тоді треба було тобі віддати срібло моє купцям, і я, прийшовши, одержав би моє з прибутком.	thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the bankers, and at my coming I should have received back mine own with interest.
28	28
Отже, візьміть у нього талант і дайте тому, хто має десять талантів.	Take ye away therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him that hath the ten talents.
29	29
Бо кожному, хто має, дасться і примножиться, а в того, хто не має, відніметься і те, що має.	For unto everyone that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not, even that which he hath shall be taken away.
30	30
А негідного раба вкиньте у пітьму непроглядну: там буде плач і скрегіт зубів. Сказавши це, проголосив: хто має вуха слухати, нехай слухає!	And cast ye out the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
31	31
Коли ж прийде Син Людський у славі Своїй і всі святі ангели з Ним, тоді сяде на престолі слави Своєї,	But when the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit on the throne of his glory:
32	32
і зберуться перед Ним усі народи; і відділить їх одних від одних, як пастир відділяє овець від козлів.	and before him shall be gathered all the nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as the shepherd separateth the sheep from the goats;
33	33
І поставить овець праворуч Себе, а козлів — ліворуч.	and he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.
34	34
Тоді скаже Цар тим, які праворуч від Нього: прийдіть, благословенні Отця Мого, успадкуйте Царство, уготоване вам від створення світу.	Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

Бо голодував Я, і ви дали Мені їсти; спраглим був, і ви напоїли Мене; був подорожнім, і ви прийняли Мене;	for I was hungry, and ye gave me to eat; I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink; I was a stranger, and ye took me in;
36	36
був нагим, і ви зодягли Мене; був недужим, і ви відвідали Мене; у в’язниці був, і ви прийшли до Мене.	naked, and ye clothed me; I was sick, and ye visited me; I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
37	37
Тоді скажуть Йому праведники у відповідь: Господи!	Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungry, and fed thee? or athirst, and gave thee drink?
38	38
Коли ми бачили Тебе голодним, і нагодували? Або спраглим, і напоїли? Коли ми бачили Тебе подорожнім, і прийняли? Або нагим, і зодягли?	And when saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
39	39
Коли ми бачили Тебе недужим або у в’язниці, і прийшли до Тебе?	And when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
40	40
І Цар скаже їм у відповідь: істинно кажу вам: зробивши це одному з цих братів Моїх менших, Мені зробили.	And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye did it unto me.
41	41
Тоді скаже й тим, які ліворуч від Нього: ідіть від Мене, прокляті, у вогонь вічний, уготований дияволу і ангелам його.	Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into the eternal fire which is prepared for the devil and his angels:
42	42
Бо голодував Я, і ви не дали Мені їсти; спраглим був, і ви не напоїли Мене;	for I was hungry, and ye did not give me to eat; I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink;
43	43
був подорожнім, і не прийняли Мене; був нагим, і не зодягли Мене; недужим і у в’язниці, і не відвідали Мене.	I was a stranger, and ye took me not in; naked, and ye clothed me not; sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.
44	44
Тоді й вони скажуть Йому у відповідь: Господи! Коли ж ми бачили Тебе голодним, або спраглим, чи подорожнім, або нагим, або недужим, або у в’язниці і не послужили Тобі?	Then shall they also answer, saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungry, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?

Тоді скаже їм у відповідь: істинно кажу вам: не зробивши цього одному з менших цих, Мені не зробили.	Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not unto one of the least of these, ye did it not unto me.
46	46
І підуть ці на вічні муки, а праведники в життя вічне.	And these shall go away into eternal punishment: but the righteous into eternal life.
Глава 26	Chapter 26

1	1
Коли Ісус скінчив усі ці слова, то сказав ученикам Своїм:	And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these words, he said unto his disciples,

ви знаєте, що через два дні буде Пасха, і Син Людський виданий буде на розп’яття.	Ye know that after two days the passover cometh, and the Son of man is delivered up to be crucified.
3	3
Тоді зібралися первосвященики, і книжники, і старійшини народу у дворі первосвященика на ім’я Каяфа,	Then were gathered together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the court of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas;
4	4
і радились, щоб узяти Ісуса підступом і вбити.	and they took counsel together that they might take Jesus by subtlety, and kill him.
5	5
Але говорили: тільки не у свято, щоб не було заворушення в народі.	But they said, Not during the feast, lest a tumult arise among the people.
6	6
Коли ж Ісус був у Вифанії, в домі Симона прокаженого,	Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,

підійшла до Нього жінка з посудиною дорогоцінного мира і зливала Йому, що возлежав, на голову.	there came unto him a woman having an alabaster cruse of exceeding precious ointment, and she poured it upon his head, as he sat at meat.

Побачивши це, ученики Його ремствували і говорили: для чого таке марнотратство?	But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste?

Бо можна було б це миро продати за велику ціну і роздати вбогим.	For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor.

Ісус же, зрозумівши це, сказав їм: навіщо бентежите жінку? Вона добре діло зробила для Мене.	But Jesus perceiving it said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me.

Бо вбогих завжди маєте з собою, а Мене не завжди маєте.	For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.
12	12
Зливши миро це на тіло Моє, до погребіння Мене приготувала.	For in that she poured this ointment upon my body, she did it to prepare me for burial.

Істинно кажу вам: де тільки буде проповідане Євангеліє це по всьому світу, сказано буде про те, що вона зробила, в пам’ять її.	Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, that also which this woman hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.

Тоді один з дванадцятьох, званий Іудою Іскаріотом, пішов до первосвящеників	Then one of the twelve, who was called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,

і сказав: що хочете дати мені, — і я вам видам Його? Вони запропонували йому тридцять срібників.	and said, What are ye willing to give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they weighed unto him thirty pieces of silver.

І відтоді він шукав нагоди, щоб видати Його.	And from that time he sought opportunity to deliver him unto them.

Першого ж дня опрісноків ученики приступили до Ісуса і сказали Йому: де хочеш, щоб ми приготували Тобі їсти паску?	Now on the first day of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we should make ready for thee to eat the passover?

Він сказав: підіть у місто до такого-то і скажіть йому: Учитель говорить: час Мій близько; у тебе справлю Пасху з учениками Моїми.	And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Teacher saith, My time is at hand; I keep the passover at thy house with my disciples.

Ученики зробили, як звелів їм Ісус, і приготували паску.	And the disciples did as Jesus appointed them; and they made ready the passover.

Коли ж настав вечір, Він возліг з дванадцятьма учениками.	Now when even was come, he was sitting at meat with the twelve;

І коли вони їли, сказав: істинно кажу вам, що один з вас зрадить Мене.	and as they were eating, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.

Вони дуже засмутились і почали говорити Йому, кожен з них: чи не я, Господи?	And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began to say unto him each of them, Is it I, Lord?

Він же сказав у відповідь: хто вмочить зі Мною руку в блюдо, той зрадить Мене.	And he answered and said, He that dipped his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me.

Син же Людський іде, як писано про Нього, але горе тій людині, якою Син Людський буде зраджений: краще було б не народитися людині тій.	The Son of man goeth, even as it is written of him: but woe unto that man through whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had not been born.

При цьому Іуда, що зрадив Його, сказав: чи не я, Учителю? Ісус говорить йому: ти сказав.	And Judas, who betrayed him, answered and said, Is it I, Rabbi? He saith unto him, Thou hast said.

І коли вони їли, Ісус узяв хліб і, благословивши, переламав і, роздаючи ученикам, сказав: прийміть, споживайте, це є Тіло Моє.	And as they were eating, Jesus took the bread, and gave thanks, and brake it; and he gave to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.

І, взявши чашу та воздавши хвалу, подав їм і сказав: пийте з неї всі,	And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;

бо це є Кров Моя Нового Завіту, що за багатьох проливається на відпущення гріхів.	for this is my blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for many unto remission of sins.

Кажу ж вам, що віднині не буду пити від цього плоду виноградного до того дня, коли питиму з вами його новим у Царстві Отця Мого.	But I say unto you, that I shall not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.

І, проспівавши, пішли на гору Елеонську.	And when they had sung a hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.

Тоді говорить їм Ісус: всі ви спокуситеся через Мене в цю ніч, бо написано: уражу пастиря, і розбіжаться вівці отари.	Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended in me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.

По воскресінні ж Моїм випереджу вас у Галилеї.	But after I am raised up, I will go before you into Galilee.

Петро сказав Йому у відповідь: якщо і всі спокусяться Тобою, то я ніколи не спокушусь.	But Peter answered and said unto him, If all shall be offended in thee, yet I will never be offended.

Ісус сказав йому: істинно кажу тобі, що в цю ніч, перше ніж проспіває півень, ти тричі зречешся Мене.	Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, that this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.

Говорить Йому Петро: хоч би мені довелось і вмерти з Тобою, не зречуся Тебе. Подібне говорили і всі ученики.	Peter saith unto him, Even if I must die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. And likewise also said all the disciples.

Потім приходить з ними Ісус у місцевість, що зветься Гефсиманією, і говорить ученикам: посидьте тут, поки Я піду та помолюся там.	Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.

І, взявши з Собою Петра і обох синів Зеведеєвих, почав сумувати й тужити.	And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and sore troubled.

Тоді говорить їм Ісус: сумна душа Моя смертельно; почекайте тут і пильнуйте зі Мною.	Then saith Jesus unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: abide ye here, and watch with me.

І, відійшовши трохи, упав Він долілиць, молився і говорив: Отче Мій! Якщо можливо, нехай обійде Мене чаша ця; втім, не як Я хочу, а як Ти.	And he went forward a little, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass away from me: nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt.

І приходить до учеників, і знаходить їх сплячими, і говорить Петрові: то не змогли ви й однієї години попильнувати зі Мною?	And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?

Пильнуйте й моліться, щоб не зазнати спокуси: дух бадьорий, плоть же немічна.	Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

Знову відійшовши, вдруге молився, кажучи: Отче Мій! Якщо не може чаша ця обминути Мене, щоб Мені не пити її, нехай буде воля Твоя.	Again a second time he went away, and prayed, saying, My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.

І, прийшовши, знаходить їх знову сплячими, бо в них очі обважніли.	And he cometh and findeth them sleeping again, for their eyes were heavy.

І, залишивши їх, знову відійшов і помолився втретє, сказавши те саме слово.	And he left them, and went away again, and prayed a third time, saying the same words.

Тоді приходить до учеників Своїх і говорить їм: ви все ще спите і відпочиваєте; ось наблизився час, і Син Людський видається в руки грішників.	Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

Встаньте, підемо, ось наблизився той, хто зраджує Мене.	Arise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that betrayeth me.

І, коли Він ще говорив, ось прийшов Іуда, один з дванадцятьох, і з ним багато народу з мечами та киями, від первосвящеників і старійшин людських.	And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people.

Зрадник же Його подав їм знак, сказавши: Кого я поцілую, Той і є, беріть Його.	Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that is he: take him.

І, відразу ж підійшовши до Ісуса, сказав: радуйся, Учителю! І поцілував Його.	And straightaway he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, Rabbi; and kissed him.

Ісус же сказав йому: друже, для чого ти прийшов? Тоді підійшли, наклали руки на Ісуса і взяли Його.	And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? Then they came and laid hands on Jesus, and took him.

І ось один з тих, що були з Ісусом, простягнувши руку, вихопив меч свій і, вдаривши раба первосвященика, відсік йому вухо.	And behold, one of them that were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and smote the servant of the high priest, and struck off his ear.

Тоді Ісус говорить йому: поверни меч твій на його місце, бо всі, хто візьме меч, від меча і загинуть;	Then saith Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into its place: for all they that take the sword shall die by the sword.

чи думаєш, що Я не можу тепер ублагати Отця Мого, і Він дасть Мені більш як дванадцять легіонів ангелів?	Or thinkest thou that I cannot now beseech my Father, and he shall send me more than twelve legions of angels?

Як же тоді збудуться Писання, що так повинно бути?	How then should the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?

Тоді сказав Ісус до народу: ніби на розбійника вийшли ви з мечами та киями, щоб узяти Мене; кожного дня сидів Я з вами, навчаючи в храмі, і ви не брали Мене.	In that hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a robber with swords and staves to seize me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye took me not.

Це ж усе сталося, щоб збулися Писання пророків. Тоді всі ученики, покинувши Його, розбіглися.	But all this is come to pass, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples left him, and fled.

А воїни, які взяли Ісуса, повели Його до Каяфи, первосвященика, де зібралися книжники і старійшини.	And they that had taken Jesus led him away to the house of Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were gathered together.

Петро ж ішов за Ним здаля, до двору первосвященика; і, ввійшовши всередину, сів із слугами, щоб бачити кінець.	But Peter followed him afar off, unto the court of the high priest, and entered in, and sat with the officers, to see the end.

Первосвященики і старійшини, і весь синедріон^* шукали лжесвідчення проти Ісуса, щоб убити Його,	Now the chief priests, and the elders, and the whole council sought false witness against Jesus, that they might put him to death;

і не знаходили; і, хоч багато лжесвідків приходило, не знайшли. Але, наостанок, прийшли два лжесвідки	and they found none: yea, though many false witnesses came, yet found they none. But afterward came two false witnesses,

і сказали: Він говорив: можу зруйнувати храм Божий і за три дні збудувати його.	and said, This man said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.

І, вставши, первосвященик сказав Йому: чому ж нічого не відповідаєш, що вони проти Тебе свідчать?	And the high priest stood up, and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?

Ісус мовчав. І первосвященик сказав Йому: заклинаю Тебе Богом Живим, скажи нам, чи Ти Христос, Син Божий?	But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou art the Christ, the Son of God.

Ісус говорить йому: ти сказав; але скажу вам: віднині побачите Сина Людського, Який сидить праворуч Сили і гряде на хмарах небесних.	Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Henceforth ye shall see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven.

Тоді первосвященик роздер одяг свій і сказав: Він богохульствує! Навіщо нам ще свідки? Ось тільки що ви чули хулу Його!	Then the high priest rent his garments, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy: what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy:

Як вам здається? Вони ж сказали у відповідь: повинен смерті.	what think ye? They answered and said, He is worthy of death.

Тоді плювали Йому в лице і знущалися з Нього, а деякі били Його по щоках	Then did they spit in his face and buffet him: and some smote him with the palms of their hands,

і говорили: проречи нам, Христе, хто вдарив Тебе?	saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ: who is he that struck thee?

Петро ж сидів у дворі. І підійшла до нього одна служниця і сказала: і ти був з Ісусом Галилейським.	Now Peter was sitting without in the court: and a maid came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus the Galilean.

Він же відрікся перед усіма, кажучи: не знаю, що ти говориш.	But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest.

Коли ж він виходив за ворота, побачила його інша і говорить тим, що були там: і цей був з Ісусом Назореєм.	And when he was gone out into the porch, another maid saw him, and saith unto them there, This man also was with Jesus of Nazareth.

І він знову відрікся з клятвою: не знаю Цього Чоловіка.	And again he denied with an oath, I know not the man.

Трохи згодом підійшли ті, що стояли там, і сказали Петрові: справді і ти з них, бо і мова твоя викриває тебе.	And after a little while they that stood by came and said to Peter, Of a truth thou also art one of them; for thy speech maketh thee known.

Тоді він почав божитися й клястися, що не знає Цього Чоловіка. І раптом заспівав півень.	Then began he to curse and to swear, I know not the man. And straightaway the cock crowed.

І згадав Петро слово, сказане йому Ісусом: перше ніж проспіває півень, тричі зречешся Мене! І, вийшовши геть, плакав гірко.	And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.
Глава 27	Chapter 27

1	1
Коли ж настав ранок, усі первосвященики і старійшини людські зібрали раду на Ісуса, щоб убити Його.	Now when morning was come, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:

І, зв’язавши Його, відвели і видали Його Понтію Пилату, правителю.	and they bound him, and led him away, and delivered him up to Pontius Pilate the governor.

Тоді Іуда, що зрадив Його, побачивши, що Він засуджений, і розкаявшись, повернув тридцять срібників первосвященикам та старійшинам,	Then Judas, who betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders,

кажучи: згрішив я, зрадивши кров невинну. Вони ж сказали йому: що нам до того? Гляди сам.	saying, I have sinned in that I betrayed innocent blood. But they said, What is that to us? see thou to it.

І, кинувши срібники в храмі, він вийшов, пішов і удавився.	And he cast down the pieces of silver into the sanctuary, and departed; and he went away and hanged himself.

Первосвященики ж, взявши срібники, сказали: не дозволено класти їх у скарбницю церковну, тому що це ціна крови.	And the chief priests took the pieces of silver, and said, It is not lawful to put them into the treasury, since it is the price of blood.

І, скликавши раду, купили за них землю гончареву для погребіння подорожніх.	And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter’s field, to bury strangers in.

Тому і зветься земля та «землею крови» до цього дня.	Wherefore that field was called, The field of blood, unto this day.

Тоді збулося сказане пророком Єремією, який говорить: і взяли тридцять срібників, ціну Оціненого, Якого оцінили сини Ізраїля,	Then was fulfilled that which was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was priced, whom certain of the children of Israel did price;

і дали їх за землю гончареву, як сказав мені Господь.	and they gave them for the potter’s field, as the Lord appointed me.

Ісус же став перед правителем. І питав Його правитель: Ти Цар Юдейський? Ісус сказав йому: ти говориш.	Now Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest.

І коли звинувачували Його первосвященики і старійшини, Він нічого не відповідав.	And when he was accused by the chief priests and the elders, he answered nothing.

Тоді говорить Йому Пилат: чи не чуєш, скільки свідчать проти Тебе?	Then saith Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee?

І не відповідав йому ні на жодне слово, так що правитель вельми дивувався.	And he gave him no answer, not even to one word: insomuch that the governor marveled greatly.

На свято ж Пасхи правитель мав звичай відпускати народові одного в’язня, якого хотіли.	Now at the feast the governor was wont to release unto the multitude one prisoner, whom they would.

Був тоді у них відомий в’язень, званий Вараввою.	And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas.

Отже, коли вони зібралися, Пилат сказав їм: кого хочете, щоб я відпустив вам — Варавву чи Ісуса, названого Христом?	When therefore they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?

Бо знав, що видали Його через заздрощі.	For he knew that for envy they had delivered him up.

Коли ж він сидів на судилищі, жінка його послала йому сказати: не роби нічого Праведникові Тому, бо я багато потерпіла сьогодні уві сні через Нього.	And while he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that righteous man; for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.

Але первосвященики і старійшини підмовили народ просити за Варавву, а Ісуса погубити.	Now the chief priests and the elders persuaded the multitudes that they should ask for Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.

Тоді правитель спитав їх: кого з двох хочете, щоб я відпустив вам? Вони сказали: Варавву.	But the governor answered and said unto them, Which of the two will ye that I release unto you? And they said, Barabbas.

Пилат говорить їм: що ж мені робити з Ісусом, нареченим Христом? Кажуть йому всі: хай буде розіп’ятий.	Pilate saith unto them, What then shall I do unto Jesus who is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified.

Правитель сказав: яке ж зло вчинив Він? Та вони ще дужче кричали: нехай буде розіп’ятий.	And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out exceedingly, saying, Let him be crucified.

Пилат, побачивши, що ніщо не допомагає, а заворушення зростає, взяв води, і вмив руки перед народом, і сказав: не винний я в крові Праведника Цього; дивіться ви.	So when Pilate saw that he prevailed nothing, but rather that a tumult was arising, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this righteous man; see ye to it.

Увесь народ, відповідаючи, сказав: кров Його на нас і на дітях наших.	And all the people answered and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.

Тоді відпустив їм Варавву, а Ісуса, бивши, віддав на розп’яття.	Then released he unto them Barabbas; but Jesus he scourged and delivered to be crucified.

Тоді воїни правителя, взявши Ісуса до преторії^*, зібрали на Нього багато воїнів	Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the Praetorium, and gathered unto him the whole band.

і, роздягнувши Його, наділи на Нього багряницю;	And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.
29	29
і, сплівши вінець з терну, поклали Йому на голову, і дали Йому в праву руку тростину; і, стаючи перед Ним на коліна, глузували з Нього, кажучи: радуйся, Царю Юдейський!	And they plaited a crown of thorns and put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand; and they knelt down before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!

І плювали на Нього, і, взявши тростину, били Його по голові.	And they spat upon him, and took the reed and smote him on the head.

А коли наглумилися з Нього, зняли з Нього багряницю і вдягли Його в одяг Його й повели на розп’яття.	And when they had mocked him, they took off from him the robe, and put on him his garments, and led him away to crucify him.

Виходячи, вони зустріли одного чоловіка киринейського на ім’я Симон; і примусили цього нести хрест Його.	And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to go with them, that he might bear his cross.

І коли прийшли на місце, яке зветься Голгофа, що значить Лобне місце,	And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, The place of a skull,

дали Йому пити оцет, змішаний з жовчю; і, покуштувавши, не схотів пити.	they gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted it, he would not drink.

Ті ж, що розіп’яли Його, поділили одяг Його, кидаючи жереб;	And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments among them, casting lots;

І, сидячи, стерегли Його там.	and they sat and watched him there.

І поставили над головою Його напис провини Його: Цей є Ісус, Цар Юдейський.	And they set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

Тоді розіп’яли з Ним двох розбійників: одного праворуч, а другого ліворуч.	Then are there crucified with him two robbers, one on the right hand and one on the left.

Ті, що проходили мимо, лихословили на Нього, киваючи головами своїми	And they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads,
40	40
і кажучи: Ти, Який руйнуєш храм і за три дні відбудовуєш, спаси Себе Самого; якщо Ти Син Божий, зійди з хреста.	and saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself: if thou art the Son of God, come down from the cross.

Так само і первосвященики з книжниками та старійшинами і фарисеями, глузуючи, говорили:	And in like manner also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders and Pharisees, said,

інших спасав, а Себе Самого не може спасти; якщо Він Цар Ізраїлів, нехай тепер зійде з хреста, і ми увіруємо в Нього;	He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he is the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe on him.

уповав на Бога, нехай тепер порятує Його, якщо Він угодний Йому. Бо Він казав: Я — Син Божий.	He trusteth in God; let him deliver him now, if he desireth him: for he said, I am the Son of God.

Також і розбійники, розіп’яті з Ним, ганьбили Його.	And the robbers also that were crucified with him cast upon him the same reproach.

З шостої ж години настала темрява по всій землі до години дев’ятої.	Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour.

А близько дев’ятої години Ісус викрикнув гучним голосом: Ілі, Ілі! Лама савахфані! Що значить: Боже Мій, Боже Мій! Навіщо Ти Мене покинув?	And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lima sabachthani? that is, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

Деякі з тих, що стояли там, почувши це, говорили: Він кличе Іллю.	And some of them that stood there, when they heard it, said, This man calleth Elijah.

І зараз же один з них побіг, взяв губку, намочив оцтом і, настромивши на тростину, давав Йому пити.	And straightaway one of them ran, and took a sponge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.

А інші говорили: стривайте, побачимо, чи прийде Ілля спасти Його.	And the rest said, Let be; let us see whether Elijah cometh to save him.

Ісус же, знову скрикнувши гучним голосом, віддав дух.	And Jesus cried again with a loud voice, and yielded up his spirit.

І ось завіса храму роздерлася надвоє, зверху донизу;	And behold, the veil of the temple was rent in two from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake; and the rocks were rent;

і земля потряслась; і каміння порозпадалось; і гроби розкрились; і багато тіл померлих святих воскресли	and the tombs were opened; and many bodies of the saints that had fallen asleep were raised;
53	53
і, вийшовши з гробів після воскресіння Його, ввійшли у святе місто і явилися багатьом.	and coming forth out of the tombs after his resurrection they entered into the holy city and appeared unto many.
54	54
Сотник же і ті, що стерегли з ним Ісуса, побачивши землетрус і все, що сталося, злякались дуже і говорили: воістину Він був Син Божий.	Now the centurion, and they that were with him watching Jesus, when they saw the earthquake, and the things that were done, feared exceedingly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.

Там було також багато жінок, що дивилися здалеку; вони йшли за Ісусом з Галилеї, слугуючи Йому;	And many women were there beholding from afar, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him:
56	56
між ними були Марія Магдалина і Марія, мати Якова та Іосії, і мати синів Зеведеєвих.	among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.
57	57
Коли ж настав вечір, прийшов багатий чоловік з Аримафеї на ім’я Йосиф, який також вчився в Ісуса.	And when even was come, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus’ disciple:

Він, прийшовши до Пилата, просив тіло Ісуса. Тоді Пилат звелів віддати тіло.	this man went to Pilate, and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be given up.
59	59
І, взявши тіло, Йосиф обгорнув чистою плащаницею	And Joseph took the body, and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,
60	60
і поклав Його в новому своєму гробі, який він витесав у скелі, і, приваливши великий камінь до дверей гробу, відійшов.	and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the tomb, and departed.
61	61
Були ж там Марія Магдалина й інша Марія, які сиділи навпроти гробу.	And Mary Magdalene was there, and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulcher.
62	62
Наступного ранку, що після п’ятниці, зійшлися первосвященики і фарисеї до Пилата	Now on the morrow, which is the day after the Preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees were gathered together unto Pilate,
63	63
і говорили: правителю! Ми згадали, що той обманщик, коли ще був живий, сказав: через три дні воскресну.	saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said while he was yet alive, After three days I rise again.
64	64
То звели охороняти гріб до третього дня, щоб ученики Його, прийшовши вночі, не вкрали Його і не сказали народові: воскрес з мертвих; і буде останній обман гірше першого.	Command therefore that the sepulcher be made sure until the third day, lest haply his disciples come by night and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: and the last error will be worse than the first.

Пилат сказав їм: маєте сторожу; підіть, охороняйте, як знаєте.	And Pilate said unto them, Ye have a guard: go, make it as sure as ye can.
66	66
Вони пішли і поставили біля гробу сторожу і наклали на камінь печать.	So they went, and made the sepulcher sure, sealing the stone, the guard being with them.
Глава 28	Chapter 28

1	1
Після ж суботнього вечора, на світанку першого дня після суботи, прийшли Марія Магдалина та інша Марія подивитися на гріб.	Now late on the sabbath day, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulcher.
2	2
І ось стався великий землетрус, бо ангел Господній, який зійшов з неба, приступивши, відвалив камінь від дверей гробу і сів на ньому.	And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, came and rolled away the stone from the door, and sat upon it.
3	3
Вигляд його був як блискавка, і одежа його біла, як сніг.	His appearance was as lightning, and his raiment white as snow:
4	4
Зі страху перед ним ті, що стерегли, затремтіли і стали як мертві;	and for fear of him the watchers did quake, and became as dead men.
5	5
Ангел же, звернувшись до жінок, сказав: не бійтеся, бо знаю, що ви шукаєте Ісуса розіп’ятого.	And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye; for I know that ye seek Jesus, who hath been crucified.
6	6
Його нема тут — Він воскрес, як сказав. Підійдіть, погляньте на місце, де лежав Господь.	He is not here; for he is risen, even as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
7	7
І підіть швидше, скажіть ученикам Його, що Він воскрес з мертвих і попередить вас у Галилеї; там Його побачите. Ось я сказав вам.	And go quickly, and tell his disciples, He is risen from the dead; and lo, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.

І, вийшовши поспішно з гробу, вони зі страхом і великою радістю побігли сповістити учеників Його.	And they went out quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to bring his disciples word.
9	9
Коли ж вони йшли сповістити учеників Його, ось Ісус зустрів їх і сказав: радуйтеся! Вони ж, приступивши, припали до ніг Його і вклонилися Йому.	And as they went to tell his disciples, then behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and took hold of his feet, and worshiped him.

Тоді говорить їм Ісус: не бійтеся; підіть сповістіть братів Моїх, щоб ішли до Галилеї, і там вони побачать Мене.	Then saith Jesus unto them, Fear not: go tell my brethren that they depart into Galilee, and there shall they see me.
11	11
Коли ж вони йшли, то дехто зі сторожі, прийшовши до міста, сповістив первосвящеників про все, що сталося.	Now while they were going, behold, some of the guard came into the city, and told unto the chief priests all the things that were come to pass.
12	12
І вони, зібравшись із старійшинами, скликали раду, дали чимало грошей воїнам	And when they were assembled with the elders, and had taken counsel, they gave much money unto the soldiers,
13	13
і сказали: говоріть, що ученики Його, прийшовши вночі, украли Його, коли ми спали.	saying, Say ye, His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept.
14	14
І якщо чутка про це дійде до правителя, ми переконаємо його і вас від неприємностей визволимо.	And if this come to the governor’s ears, we will persuade him, and rid you of care.
15	15
Вони, взявши гроші, зробили, як були навчені; і пронеслося слово це між юдеями, навіть до цього дня.	So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying was spread abroad among the Jews, and continueth until this day.
16	16
А одинадцять учеників пішли в Галилею, на гору, куди звелів їм Ісус.	But the eleven disciples went into Galilee, unto the mountain where Jesus had appointed them.
17	17
І, побачивши Його, поклонилися Йому, а деякі засумнівались.	And when they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted.
18	18
І, наблизившись, Ісус сказав їм: дана Мені всяка влада на небі і на землі.	And Jesus came to them and spake unto them, saying, All authority hath been given unto me in heaven and on earth.
19	19
Отже, йдіть, навчайте всі народи, хрестячи їх в ім’я Отця, і Сина, і Святого Духа,	Go ye, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit:
20	20
навчаючи їх зберігати все, що Я заповів вам; і ось Я з вами по всі дні, до кінця віку. Амінь.	teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
