Глава 1	Chapter 1

1	1
Павло, з волі Божої апостол Ісуса Христа, і Тимофій брат, церкві Божій, що в Коринфі, з усіма святими по всій Ахайї:	Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Timothy our brother, unto the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints that are in the whole of Achaia:

благодать вам і мир від Бога Отця нашого і Господа Ісуса Христа.	Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
3	3
Благословен Бог і Отець Господа нашого Ісуса Христа, Отець милосердя і Бог усякої втіхи,	Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort;
4	4
Який втішає у всякій скорботі нашій, щоб і ми могли втішати тих‚ хто перебуває у всякій скорботi‚ тією втіхою, якою Бог утішає нас самих.	who comforteth us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort them that are in any affliction, through the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.

Бо в міру, як примножуються в нас страждання Христові, примножує Христос і втіху нашу.	For as the sufferings of Christ abound unto us, even so our comfort also aboundeth through Christ.

Чи терпимо скорботи, ми терпимо скорботи для вашої втіхи і спасіння, що здійснюється перенесенням тих самих страждань, які й ми терпимо.	But whether we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation, which worketh in the patient enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer; and our hope for you is steadfast: or whether we are comforted, it is for your comfort and salvation;

І надія наша на вас тверда. Чи втішаємося ми, втішаємося для вашої втіхи й спасіння, знаючи, що ви берете участь як у стражданнях наших, так і в утішенні.	knowing that, as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so also are ye of the comfort.

Бо не хочемо ми, браття, щоб вам було невідомо про скорботу нашу, що трапилася з нами в Асії, де було нам тяжко надміру і над силу, так що не сподівалися залишитися живими,	For we would not have you ignorant, brethren, of our affliction which befell us in Asia, that we were weighed down exceedingly, beyond our power, insomuch that we despaired even of life:

але самі в собі мали вирок до смерти для того, щоб надіятися не на самих себе, а на Бога, Який воскрешає мертвих,	yea, we ourselves have had the sentence of death within ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God who raiseth the dead:

Який і врятував нас від такої близької смерти‚ і визволяє, і на Якого надіємось, що і ще визволить,	who delivered us out of so great a death, and doth deliver: on whom we have set our hope that he will also still deliver us;

при сприянні й вашої молитви за нас, щоб за дароване нам, завдяки заступництву багатьох, багато хто дякував за нас.	ye also helping together on our behalf by your supplication; that, for the gift bestowed upon us by means of many, thanks may be given by many persons on your behalf.

Бо похвала ця наша — є свідченням совісти нашої, що ми в простоті і боговгодній щирості, не за тілесною мудрістю, але за благодаттю Божою, жили на світі, особливо ж у вас.	For our glorying is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and sincerity of God, not in fleshly wisdom but in the grace of God, we behaved ourselves in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward.
13	13
І ми пишемо вам не інше, як те, що ви читаєте або розумієте і що, сподіваюсь, до кінця зрозумієте.	For we write no other things unto you, than what ye read or even acknowledge, and I hope ye will acknowledge even unto the end:

Бо ви частково і зрозуміли вже, що ми будемо вашою похвалою, а рівно й ви нашою, в день Господа нашого Ісуса Христа.	as also ye did acknowledge us in part, that we are your glorying, even as ye also are ours, in the day of the Lord Jesus.
15	15
І з цією певністю я мав намір прийти до вас раніше, щоб ви вдруге одержали благодать,	And in this confidence I was minded to come unto you before, that ye might have a second benefit;
16	16
і через вас пройти до Македонії, з Македонії знову прийти до вас, а ви провели б мене до Юдеї.	and by you to pass into Macedonia, and again from Macedonia to come unto you, and of you to be set forward on my journey unto Judea.
17	17
Маючи такий намір, хіба легковажно я вчинив? Або те, що я роблю, за плоттю роблю, так що в мене і «так, так», і «ні, нi»?	When I therefore purposed thus, did I show fickleness? or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be the yea yea and the nay nay?

Вірний Бог, що наше слово до вас не було і «так», і «нi».	But as God is faithful, our word toward you was not yea and nay.
19	19
Бо Син Божий, Ісус Христос, проповіданий у вас нами, мною та Силуаном і Тимофієм, не був «так» і «нi»; але в Hьому Самому було «так», —	For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timothy, was not yea and nay, but in him is yea.

бо всі обітниці в Hьому «так»‚ і в Hьому «амінь» — Богові на славу, через нас.	For how many soever be the promises of God, in him is the yea, and in him is the Amen, unto the glory of God through us.
21	21
А Той‚ Хто утверджує нас із вами у Христі і Який помазав нас‚ є Бог,	Now he that establisheth us with you in Christ, and anointed us, is God;
22	22
Він і поклав печать на нас‚ і дав запоруку Духа в серця наші.	who also sealed us, and gave us the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.

Бога кличу в свідки на душу мою, що, жаліючи вас, я досі не приходив до Коринфа,	But I call God for a witness upon my soul, that to spare you I forbare to come unto Corinth.
24	24
не тому, ніби ми беремо владу над вірою вашою; але ми сприяємо радості вашій: бо вірою ви тверді.	Not that we have lordship over your faith, but are helpers of your joy: for in faith ye stand fast.
Глава 2	Chapter 2

1	1
Отже, я вирішив сам у собі не приходити до вас знову у смутку.	But I determined this for myself, that I would not come again to you with sorrow.
2	2
Бо коли я засмучую вас, то хто звеселить мене, як не той, хто засмучений мною?	For if I make you sorry, who then is he that maketh me glad but he that is made sorry by me?
3	3
Те саме я і писав до вас, щоб, прийшовши, не мати смутку від тих, за яких мені належало радіти, бо за всіх вас певний, що моя радість є радість і для всіх вас.	And I wrote this very thing unto you, lest, when I came, I should have sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in you all, that my joy is the joy of you all.

Від великої скорботи і туги серця я писав вам з великими сльозами не для того, щоб засмутити вас, але щоб ви пізнали мою надмірну любов до вас.	For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears; not that ye should be made sorry, but that ye might know the love which I have more abundantly unto you.

Коли ж хто засмутив, то не мене засмутив, а почасти, — щоб не сказати багато, — і всіх вас.	But if any hath caused sorrow, he hath caused sorrow, not to me, but in part (that I press not too heavily) to you all.

Для такого досить цього покарання від багатьох,	Sufficient to such a one is this punishment which was inflicted by the many;

тож вам краще вже простити його і втішити, щоб його не поглинула надмірна печаль.	so that contrariwise ye should rather forgive him and comfort him, lest by any means such a one should be swallowed up with his overmuch sorrow.

І тому прошу вас: виявіть до нього любов.	Wherefore I beseech you to confirm your love toward him.
9	9
Бо я для того і писав, щоб дізнатися на досвіді, чи в усьому ви слухняні.	For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye are obedient in all things.
10	10
А кого ви в чому прощаєте, того і я; бо і я, коли простив кого в чому, простив для вас від лиця Христового,	But to whom ye forgive anything, I forgive also: for I also, if I have forgiven anything, to whom I have forgiven it, for your sakes have I forgiven it in the presence of Christ;
11	11
щоб не заподіяв шкоди нам сатана, бо нам відомі його наміри.	that no advantage may be gained over us by Satan: for we are not ignorant of his devices.
12	12
Прийшовши до Троади благовістити про Христа, хоч Господь і відчинив мені двері,	Now when I came to Troas for the gospel of Christ, and when a door was opened unto me in the Lord,
13	13
я не мав спокою духові моєму, бо не знайшов там брата мого Тита; але‚ попрощавшись із ними, я пішов до Македонії.	I had no relief for my spirit, because I found not Titus my brother: but taking my leave of them, I went forth into Macedonia.
14	14
Але дяка Богові, Який завжди дає нам торжествувати у Христі і пахощі пізнання про Себе розповсюджує через нас у всякому місці.	But thanks be unto God, who always leadeth us in triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest through us the savor of his knowledge in every place.
15	15
Бо ми Христові пахощі Богові в тих, що спасаються‚ і в тих‚ що гинуть.	For we are a sweet savor of Christ unto God, in them that are saved, and in them that perish;
16	16
Для одних запах смертоносний на смерть, а для інших запах животворчий на життя. І хто здатний до цього?	to the one a savor of death unto death; to the other a savor of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?
17	17
Бо ми не спотворюємо слова Божого, як багато хто, але проповідуємо щиро, як від Бога, перед Богом, у Христі.	For we are not as the rest, corrupting the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God, speak we in Christ.
Глава 3	Chapter 3

1	1
Hевже нам знову знайомитися з вами! Hевже потрібні для нас, як для деяких, схвальні послання до вас або від вас?	Are we beginning again to commend ourselves? unless we need, as do some, epistles of commendation to you or epistles of commendation from you?
2	2
Ви — наше послання, написане у серцях наших, яке пізнають і читають усі люди;	Ye are our epistle, written in our hearts, known and read of all men;
3	3
ви показуєте собою, що ви — послання Христове, через служіння наше, написане не чорнилом, але Духом Бога Живого, не на кам’яних скрижалях, але на плотських скрижалях серця.	being made manifest that ye are an epistle of Christ, ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in tables that are hearts of flesh.

Таку впевненість ми маємо в Бозі через Христа.	And such confidence have we through Christ to God-ward:

Hе тому, що ми самі здатні були помислити щось від себе, ніби від себе, але здібність наша від Бога.	not that we are sufficient of ourselves, to account anything as from ourselves; but our sufficiency is from God;
6	6
Він дав нам здібність бути служителями Hового Завіту, не букви, але духу, тому що буква вбиває, а дух животворить.	who also made us sufficient as ministers of a new covenant; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.
7	7
Якщо ж служіння смерти‚ накреслене буквами на каменях, було таке славне, що сини Ізраїлеві не могли дивитися на обличчя Мойсеєве внаслідок минущої слави обличчя його, —	But if the ministration of death, written, and engraven on stones, came with glory, so that the children of Israel could not look steadfastly upon the face of Moses for the glory of his face; which glory was passing away:

то чи не значно славнішим має бути служіння духа?	how shall not rather the ministration of the spirit be with glory?
9	9
Бо коли служіння осуду — славне, то тим більше рясніє славою служіння виправдання.	For if the ministration of condemnation is glory, much rather doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.
10	10
Та прославлене навіть не є славним із цього боку, з причини слави наступного‚ яка переважає.	For verily that which hath been made glorious hath not been made glorious in this respect, by reason of the glory that surpasseth.
11	11
Бо, якщо славне те‚ що минає, тим славніше те‚ що триває.	For if that which passeth away was with glory, much more that which remaineth is in glory.
12	12
Маючи таку надію, ми діємо з великим дерзновенням,	Having therefore such a hope, we use great boldness of speech,
13	13
а не так, як Мойсей, який клав покривало на обличчя своє, щоб сини Ізраїлеві не дивилися на кінець того‚ що минає.	and are not as Moses, who put a veil upon his own face, that the children of Israel should not look steadfastly on the end of that which was passing away:
14	14
Та їхній розум засліпився: бо те ж саме покривало донині лишається незнятим при читанні Старого Заповіту, бо воно знімається Христом.	but their minds were hardened: for until this day at the reading of the old covenant the same veil remaineth unlifted, for it is done away in Christ.
15	15
Донині, коли вони читають Мойсея, покривало лежить на серці їхньому,	But unto this day, when Moses is read, a veil lieth upon their heart.
16	16
але коли навертаються до Господа, тоді це покривало знімається.	But whensoever it shall turn to the Lord, the veil is taken away.
17	17
Господь є Дух; а де Дух Господній, там свобода.	Now the Lord is the Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
18	18
А ми всi‚ відкритим обличчям, як у дзеркалі, дивлячись на славу Господню, перетворюємося на той же образ від слави у славу, як від Господнього Духа.	But we all, with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are transformed into the same image from glory to glory, even as from the Lord the Spirit.
Глава 4	Chapter 4

1	1
Тому, маючи з милости Божої таке служіння, ми не сумуємо,	Therefore seeing we have this ministry, even as we obtained mercy, we faint not:
2	2
але, відкинувши приховані ганебні вчинки, не вдаючись до хитрості та не перекручуючи слова Божого, а відкриваючи істину, доручаємо себе совісті кожної людини перед Богом.	but we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by the manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.
3	3
Якщо ж і закрите благовістування наше, то закрите для тих, що гинуть.	And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled in them that perish:
4	4
Для невіруючих, у яких бог віку цього засліпив розум, щоб для них не засяяло світло благовістя про славу Христа, Який є образ Бога невидимого.	in whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not dawn upon them.

Бо ми не себе проповідуємо, але Христа Ісуса, Господа, а ми — раби ваші заради Ісуса,	For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake.
6	6
тому що Бог, Який звелів, щоб із темряви засяяло світло, осяяв наші серця, щоб просвітити нас пізнанням слави Божої в особі Ісуса Христа.	Seeing it is God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, who shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

Але скарб цей ми носимо в глиняних сосудах, щоб велич сили була Божою, а не нашою.	But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the exceeding greatness of the power may be of God, and not from ourselves;
8	8
Hас звідусіль тиснуть, але ми не стисненi; ми в безвихідних обставинах, але не втрачаємо надії;	we are pressed on every side, yet not straitened; perplexed, yet not unto despair;
9	9
нас гонять, але ми не покинутi; повалені, але не погублені.	pursued, yet not forsaken; smitten down, yet not destroyed;
10	10
Завжди мертвість Господа Ісуса носимо в тілі, щоб і життя Ісусове відкрилося в тілі нашому.	always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus may be manifested in our body.
11	11
Бо ми живі безперестанно віддаємося на смерть заради Ісуса, щоб і життя Ісусове відкрилося у смертній плоті нашій,	For we who live are always delivered unto death for Jesus’ sake, that the life also of Jesus may be manifested in our mortal flesh.
12	12
тому-то смерть діє в нас, а життя у вас.	So then death worketh in us, but life in you.
13	13
Але, маючи той же дух віри, як написано: «Я вірував і тому говорив», — і ми віруємо, тому й говоримо,	But having the same spirit of faith, according to that which is written, I believed, and therefore did I speak; we also believe, and therefore also we speak;
14	14
знаючи, що Той, Хто воскресив Господа Ісуса, воскресить через Ісуса і нас і поставить перед Собою з вами.	knowing that he that raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also through Jesus, and shall present us with you.
15	15
Бо все для вас, щоб благодать‚ примножившись‚ тим більшу викликала в багатьох вдячність на славу Божу.	For all things are for your sakes, that the grace, being multiplied through the many, may cause the thanksgiving to abound unto the glory of God.
16	16
Тому ми не сумуємо; але якщо зовнішній наш чоловік і тліє, то внутрішній день у день оновлюється.	Wherefore we faint not; but though our outward man is decaying, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.
17	17
Бо короткочасне легке страждання наше викликає безмірну вічну славу,	For our light affliction, which is for the moment, worketh for us more and more exceedingly an eternal weight of glory;
18	18
коли ми дивимось не на видиме, але на невидиме: бо видиме — дочасне, а невидиме — вічне.	while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
Глава 5	Chapter 5

1	1
Бо знаємо, що‚ коли земний наш дім, ця хатина, розвалиться, ми маємо від Бога житло на небесах, дім нерукотворний, вічний.	For we know that if the earthly house of our tabernacle be dissolved, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal, in the heavens.
2	2
Від того ми і зітхаємо, бажаючи облачитися в небесне наше житло;	For verily in this we groan, longing to be clothed upon with our habitation which is from heaven:
3	3
тільки б нам і вдягненим не виявитися нагими.	if so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked.
4	4
Бо ми, знаходячись у цій хатині, зітхаємо під тягарем, бо не хочемо роздягнутися, але вдягнутися, щоб смертне поглинуте було життям.	For indeed we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened; not for that we would be unclothed, but that we would be clothed upon, that what is mortal may be swallowed up of life.

Hа це саме і створив нас Бог і дав нам запоруку Духа.	Now he that wrought us for this very thing is God, who also gave unto us the earnest of the Spirit.
6	6
Отже, ми завжди маємо сміливість: і, як знаємо, що, поки живемо в тілі, ми відсторонені від Господа, —	Being therefore always of good courage, and knowing that, while we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord
7	7
бо ми ходимо вірою, а не видінням, —	(for we walk by faith, not by sight);
8	8
сміливість же маємо і бажаємо краще вийти з тіла і оселитися в Господа.	we are of good courage, I say, and are willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be at home with the Lord.
9	9
І тому ревно стараємось, чи то входячи, чи виходячи, бути Йому угодними;	Wherefore also we make it our aim, whether at home or absent, to be well-pleasing unto him.
10	10
бо всім нам належить стати перед судом Христовим, щоб кожному одержати згідно з тим‚ що він робив, живучи в тілі, добре або лихе.	For we must all be made manifest before the judgment seat of Christ; that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he hath done, whether it be good or evil.
11	11
Отже, знаючи страх Господній, ми наставляємо людей, Богові ж ми відкритi; маю надію, що відкриті і вашій совісті.	Knowing therefore the fear of the Lord, we persuade men, but we are made manifest unto God; and I hope that we are made manifest also in your consciences.
12	12
Hе знову представляємо себе вам, але даємо вам привід хвалитись нами, щоб ви мали що сказати тим, котрі хваляться обличчям, а не серцем.	For we are not again commending ourselves unto you, but speak as giving you occasion of glorying on our behalf, that ye may have wherewith to answer them that glory in appearance, and not in heart.
13	13
Якщо ми втрачаємо самовладання, то для Бога; коли ж скромні, то для вас.	For whether we are beside ourselves, it is unto God; or whether we are of sober mind, it is unto you.
14	14
Бо любов Христова обіймає нас, що міркуємо так: якщо один помер за всіх, то всі померли.	For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then all died;
15	15
А Христос помер за всіх, щоб ті‚ хто живе‚ вже не для себе жили, але для померлого за них і воскреслого.	and he died for all, that they that live should no longer live unto themselves, but unto him who for their sakes died and rose again.
16	16
Тому ми віднині нікого не знаємо за плоттю; а коли й знали Христа за плоттю, то тепер уже не знаємо.	Wherefore we henceforth know no man after the flesh: and even though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now we know him so no more.
17	17
Отже, хто в Христі, той нове створіння; давнє минуло, тепер усе нове.	Wherefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature: the old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
18	18
Усе ж від Бога, Який Ісусом Христом примирив нас із Собою і дав нам служіння примирення,	But all things are of God, who reconciled us to himself through Jesus Christ, and gave unto us the ministry of reconciliation;
19	19
бо в Христі Ісусі Бог примирив із Собою світ, не ставлячи в провину людям злочинів їхніх, і дав нам слово примирення.	to wit, that God was in Christ reconciling the world unto himself, not reckoning unto them their trespasses, and having committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
20	20
Отже, ми — посланці від імені Христового і мовби сам Бог умовляє через нас; від імені Христового просимо: примиріться з Богом.	We are ambassadors therefore on behalf of Christ, as though God were entreating by us: we beseech you on behalf of Christ, be ye reconciled to God.
21	21
Бо Того, Хто не знав гріха, Він зробив жертвою за гріх, щоб ми в Hьому стали праведними перед Богом.	For him who knew no sin he made to be sin on our behalf; that we might become the righteousness of God in him.
Глава 6	Chapter 6

1	1
Ми ж, як співпрацівники, благаємо вас, щоб благодать Божу ви прийняли не марно.	And working together with him we entreat also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain
2	2
Бо сказано: «У сприятливий час Я почув тебе і в день спасіння допоміг тобi». Ось тепер час сприятливий, ось тепер день спасіння.	(for he saith, At an acceptable time I hearkened unto thee, And in a day of salvation did I succor thee: behold, now is the acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation):

Ми нікому ні в чому не чинимо перешкоди, щоб служіння було бездоганним,	giving no occasion of stumbling in anything, that our ministration be not blamed;
4	4
але в усьому показуємо себе як служителі Божі, у великому терпінні, в бідах і нестатках, у тіснотах,	but in everything commending ourselves, as ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses,
5	5
у ранах, у в’язницях, у вигнаннях, у трудах, у неспанні, в постах,	in stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labors, in watchings, in fastings;
6	6
у очищенні, у розумі, у довготерпінні, в доброті, в Дусі Святому, в нелицемірній любові,	in pureness, in knowledge, in long-suffering, in kindness, in the Holy Spirit, in love unfeigned,
7	7
у слові істини, у силі Божій зі зброєю правди в правій і в лівій руці,	in the word of truth, in the power of God; by the armor of righteousness on the right hand and on the left,
8	8
у славі і безчесті, у ганьбі і похвалах: як обманщики, але ми правдивi;	by glory and dishonor, by evil report and good report; as deceivers, and yet true;
9	9
як незнані, але пізнані; як ті‚ що помирають, але ось ми живi; як карані, та не вбиті;	as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold, we live; as chastened, and not killed;
10	10
як сумні, але завжди радіємо; як бідні, але багатьох збагачуємо; як ті‚ що нічого не мають, але всім володіємо.	as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.

Уста наші відкрилися до вас, коринф’яни, серце наше розширене.	Our mouth is open unto you, O Corinthians, our heart is enlarged.
12	12
Вам не тісно в нас, але в серцях ваших тісно.	Ye are not straitened in us, but ye are straitened in your own affections.
13	13
Такою ж відплатою‚ — кажу як дітям, — будьте розширені і ви.	Now for a recompense in like kind (I speak as unto my children), be ye also enlarged.
14	14

Яка згода між Христом і Веліаром? Або яка співучасть вірного з невірним?	And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what portion hath a believer with an unbeliever?

Яка сумісність храму Божого з ідолами? Бо ви — храм Бога Живого, як сказав Бог: «Оселюся в них‚ і ходитиму в них‚ і буду їхнім Богом, і вони будуть Моїм народом.	And what agreement hath a temple of God with idols? for you are a temple of the living God; even as God said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

І тому вийдіть із середовища їхнього і відлучіться, — говорить Господь, — і не доторкайтесь до нечистого, і Я прийму вас.	Wherefore Come ye out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, And touch no unclean thing; And I will receive you,

І буду вам Отцем, і ви будете Моїми синами і дочками,» — говорить Господь Вседержитель.	And will be to you a Father, And ye shall be to me sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
Глава 7	Chapter 7

Отже, улюблені, маючи такі обітниці, очистьмо себе від усякої скверни плоті і духу, творячи святиню в страхові Божому.	Having therefore these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

Дайте нам місце. Ми нікого не скривдили, нікому не зашкодили, ні від кого не шукали користи.	Open your hearts to us: we wronged no man, we corrupted no man, we took advantage of no man.

Hе на осуд кажу: бо я раніше казав, що ви в серцях наших, так щоб разом і вмерти, і жити.	I say it not to condemn you: for I have said before, that ye are in our hearts to die together and live together.

Я дуже надіюся на вас, багато хвалюся вами; я повен утіхи, маю радість велику, при всій скорботі нашій.	Great is my boldness of speech toward you, great is my glorying on your behalf: I am filled with comfort, I overflow with joy in all our affliction.

Бо, коли прийшли ми до Македонії, тіло наше не мало ніякого спокою, але ми пригнічені були звідусіль: назовні — боротьба, всередині — страхи.	For even when we were come into Macedonia our flesh had no relief, but we were afflicted on every side; without were fightings, within were fears.

Але Бог, Який утішає смиренних, утішив нас прибуттям Тита,	Nevertheless he that comforteth the lowly, even God, comforted us by the coming of Titus;

і не тільки прибуттям його, але й утіхою, якою він утішався за вас, розповідаючи нам про вашу старанність, про ваш плач, про вашу прихильність до мене, так що я зрадів ще більше.	and not by his coming only, but also by the comfort wherewith he was comforted in you, while he told us your longing, your mourning, your zeal for me; so that I rejoiced yet more.

Отже, якщо я засмутив вас посланням, не каюся, хоч і каявся був, бо бачу, що послання те засмутило вас, але на деякий час.	For though I made you sorry with my epistle, I do not regret it: though I did regret it (for I see that that epistle made you sorry, though but for a season),

Тепер я радію не тому, що ви засумували, але що ви засумували до покаяння; бо сумували заради Бога, так що ніскільки не зазнали від нас шкоди.	I now rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye were made sorry unto repentance; for ye were made sorry after a godly sort, that ye might suffer loss by us in nothing.

Бо печаль заради Бога породжує незмінне покаяння на спасіння, а печаль мирська викликає смерть.	For godly sorrow worketh repentance unto salvation, a repentance which bringeth no regret: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

Бо те саме, що ви засмутилися заради Бога, глядіть, яку спричинило у вас старанність, яке виправдання, яке обурення на винного, який страх, яке бажання, яку ревність, яку відплату! У всьому ви показали себе чистими у цій справі.	For behold, this selfsame thing, that ye were made sorry after a godly sort, what earnest care it wrought in you, yea what clearing of yourselves, yea what indignation, yea what fear, yea what longing, yea what zeal, yea what avenging! In everything ye approved yourselves to be pure in the matter.

Отже, якщо я писав до вас, то не заради того‚ хто образив‚ і не заради ображеного, але щоб вам відкрилося піклування наше про вас перед Богом.	So although I wrote unto you, I wrote not for his cause that did the wrong, nor for his cause that suffered the wrong, but that your earnest care for us might be made manifest unto you in the sight of God.

Тому ми втішились утіхою вашою, і ще більше зраділи радістю Тита, що ви всі заспокоїли дух його.	Therefore we have been comforted in your comfort: and we joyed the more exceedingly for the joy of Titus, because his spirit hath been refreshed by you all.

Отже, я не осоромився, коли чим-небудь про вас похвалився перед ним, але як вам ми говорили всю істину, так і перед Титом похвала наша виявилася правдивою.	For if in anything I have gloried to him on your behalf, I was not put to shame; but as we spake all things to you in truth, so our glorying also which I made before Titus was found to be the truth.

І серце його дуже прихильне до вас, при спомині про послух усіх вас, як ви прийняли його зі страхом і трепетом.	And his affection is more abundantly toward you, while he remembereth the obedience of you all, how with fear and trembling ye received him.

Отже, радію, що в усьому можу покластися на вас.	I rejoice that in everything I am of good courage concerning you.
Глава 8	Chapter 8

1	1
Сповіщаємо вам, браття, про благодать Божу, дану Церквам Македонським,	Moreover, brethren, we make known to you the grace of God which hath been given in the churches of Macedonia;
2	2
бо вони серед великого випробування скорботами дуже багаті на радість; і глибока вбогість їхня дуже багата на щедрість їхню.	how that in much proof of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality.
3	3
Бо вони доброзичливі по силах і над сили — я свідок;	For according to their power, I bear witness, yea and beyond their power, they gave of their own accord,
4	4
вони дуже переконливо просили нас прийняти дар і участь їхню в служінні святим;	beseeching us with much entreaty in regard of this grace and the fellowship in the ministering to the saints:

і не тільки те, чого ми сподівалися, але вони віддали самих себе, по-перше, Господеві, потім і нам з волі Божої;	and this, not as we had hoped, but first they gave their own selves to the Lord, and to us through the will of God.

тому ми просили Тита, щоб він, як почав, так і закінчив у вас і це добре діло.	Insomuch that we exhorted Titus, that as he had made a beginning before, so he would also complete in you this grace also.

А оскільки ви багаті всім: вірою‚ і словом, і пізнанням, і всіляким старанням, і любов’ю вашою до нас, — так багатійте і цією чеснотою.	But as ye abound in everything, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all earnestness, and in your love to us, see that ye abound in this grace also.

Кажу це не як повеління, але старанністю інших випробовую щирість і вашої любови.	I speak not by way of commandment, but as proving through the earnestness of others the sincerity also of your love.

Адже ви знаєте благодать Господа нашого Ісуса Христа, що Він, будучи багатим, став убогим заради вас, щоб ви збагатилися Його убогістю.	For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might become rich.

Я даю на це пораду: бо це корисно вам, які не тільки почали робити це, але бажали того ще з минулого року.	And herein I give my judgment: for this is expedient for you, who were the first to make a beginning a year ago, not only to do, but also to will.

Зробіть же тепер саме діло, щоб чого ревно бажали, те й виконано було по змозі.	But now complete the doing also; that as there was the readiness to will, so there may be the completion also out of your ability.

Бо коли є старанність, то вона приймається зважаючи на те, хто що має, а не на те, чого не має.	For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable according as a man hath, not according as he hath not.

Hе треба, щоб іншим було полегшення, а вам тягар, але щоб була рівномірність.	For I say not this that others may be eased and ye distressed; but by equality: your abundance being a supply at this present time for their want,

Hині ваш надлишок на доповнення їхньої нестачі, а потім їхній надлишок на доповнення вашої нестачі, щоб була рівність,	that their abundance also may become a supply for your want; that there may be equality:
15	15
як написано: «Хто зібрав багато, не мав зайвого; і хто мало, не мав нестачi».	as it is written, He that gathered much had nothing over; and he that gathered little had no lack.
16	16
Дяка Богові, Який вклав у серце Титове таку старанність до вас.	But thanks be to God, who putteth the same earnest care for you into the heart of Titus.

Бо, хоча я й просив його, а втім, він, будучи дуже старанним, пішов до вас добровільно.	For he accepted indeed our exhortation; but being himself very earnest, he went forth unto you of his own accord.
18	18
З ним послали ми також брата, якого по всіх церквах хвалять за благовістя,	And we have sent together with him the brother whose praise in the gospel is spread through all the churches;
19	19
і до того обраного церквами супроводжувати нас для цього добродіяння, якому ми служимо на славу Самого Господа і відповідно до вашого старання,	and not only so, but who was also appointed by the churches to travel with us with this grace, which is ministered by us to the glory of the same Lord, and to show our readiness:

оберігаючись, щоб не зазнати від кого нарікання при такій великій кількості пожертв, доручуваних нашому служінню;	avoiding this, that any man should blame us in the matter of this bounty which is ministered by us:
21	21
бо ми дбаємо про добре не тільки перед Господом, але й перед людьми.	taking thought for things honorable, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.
22	22
Ми послали з ними і брата нашого, старанність якого випробували багато в чому, і він тепер іще старанніший з великої впевнености у вас.	And we have sent with them our brother, whom we have many times proved earnest in many things, but now much more earnest, by reason of the great confidence which he hath in you.

Що ж стосується Тита, це мій товариш і співпрацівник у вас, а щодо братів наших, це — посланці церков, слава Христова.	Whether any inquire about Titus, he is my partner and my fellow worker to you-ward; or our brethren, they are the messengers of the churches, they are the glory of Christ.

Отже, перед лицем церков дайте їм доказ любови вашої й того, що ми справедливо хвалимося вами.	Show ye therefore unto them in the face of the churches the proof of your love, and of our glorying on your behalf.
Глава 9	Chapter 9

1	1
Для мене‚ втім‚ зайва річ писати вам про допомогу святим,	For as touching the ministering to the saints, it is superfluous for me to write to you:

бо я знаю щирість вашу і хвалюся вами перед македонянами, що Ахайя приготована ще з минулого року, і ревність ваша заохотила багатьох.	for I know your readiness, of which I glory on your behalf to them of Macedonia, that Achaia hath been prepared for a year past; and the zeal from you hath stirred up very many of them.

А братів послав я для того, щоб похвала моя про вас не виявилася марною в цьому випадку, але щоб ви, як я говорив, були приготовані	But I have sent the brethren, that our glorying on your behalf may not be made void in this respect; that, even as I said, ye may be prepared:

і щоб, коли прийдуть зі мною македоняни і знайдуть вас неготовими, не лишилися ми в в соромі, — не кажу «ви», — похвалившись з такою впевненістю.	lest by any means, if there come with me any of Macedonia and find you unprepared, we (that we say not, ye) should be put to shame in this confidence of glorying.

Тому вважав я за потрібне упросити братів, щоб вони пішли наперед до вас і потурбувалися, щоб сповіщене вже благословення ваше було готове як благословення, а не як вимушений дар.	I thought it necessary therefore to entreat the brethren, that they would go before unto you, and make up beforehand your fore-announced bounty, that the same might be ready as a matter of bounty, and not of extortion.

При цьому скажу: хто сіє скупо, той скупо і пожне, а хто сіє щедро, той щедро і пожне.	But this I say, He that soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he that soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.

Кожен приділяй з ласки серця, не з гіркотою і не з примусом, бо хто дає доброзичливо, того любить Бог.	Let each man do according as he purposeth in his heart: not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.
8	8
Бог же має силу збагатити вас усякою благодаттю, щоб ви, завжди і в усьому маючи всякий достаток, були багаті на всяке добре діло.	And God is able to make all grace abound unto you; that ye, having always all sufficiency in everything, may abound unto every good work:

Як написано: «Розсипав, роздав убогим, правда його перебуває повік».	as it is written, He hath scattered abroad, he hath given to the poor; His righteousness abideth forever.
10	10
Той же, Хто дає насіння сіячеві і хліб на поживу, дасть рясноту посіяному вами і примножить плоди правди вашої,	And he that supplieth seed to the sower also supply bread for food, and multiply your seed for sowing, and increase the fruits of your righteousness:
11	11
так щоб ви були багаті на всяку щедрість, яка через нас створює подяку Богові.	ye being enriched in everything unto all liberality, which worketh through us thanksgiving to God.
12	12
Бо діло служіння цього не тільки доповнює потреби святих, але й викликає в багатьох великі подяки Боговi;	For the ministration of this service not only filleth up the measure of the wants of the saints, but aboundeth also through many thanksgivings unto God;
13	13
бо, спостерігаючи досвід цього служіння, вони прославляють Бога за покірність сповідуваному вами Євангелію Христовому і за щире спілкування з ними та з усіма,	seeing that through the proving of you by this ministration they glorify God for the obedience of your confession unto the gospel of Christ, and for the liberality of your contribution unto them and unto all;

молячись за вас із прихильністю до вас за дуже щедру у вас благодать Божу.	while they themselves also, with supplication on your behalf, long after you by reason of the exceeding grace of God in you.

Дяка Богові за невимовний дар Його!	Now thanks be to God for his unspeakable gift.
Глава 10	Chapter 10

1	1
Я ж, Павло, який особисто між вами смиренний, а заочно проти вас сміливий, благаю вас лагідністю й покірністю Христовою.	Now I Paul myself entreat you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, I who in your presence am lowly among you, but being absent am of good courage toward you:

Благаю, щоб мені і в день приходу мого не вдаватися до тієї рішучої сміливості, яку гадаю вжити проти деяких, що думають про нас, ніби ми чинимо за плоттю.	yea, I beseech you, that I may not when present show courage with the confidence wherewith I count to be bold against some, who count of us as if we walked according to the flesh.

Бо ми, будучи в плоті, не за плоттю воюємо.	For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh

Зброя нашого воювання не плотська, але сильна Богом на зруйнування твердинь: нею руйнуємо задуми	(for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the casting down of strongholds);
5	5
і всяке звеличування, що повстає проти пізнання Бога, і беремо в полон усякий помисел на послух Христу,	casting down imaginations, and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ;
6	6
і готові покарати всілякий непослух, коли ваш послух здійсниться.	and being in readiness to avenge all disobedience, when your obedience shall be made full.

Чи на обличчя ви дивитесь? Хто певний у собі, що він Христів, той сам по собі суди, що як він Христів, так і ми Христові.	Do ye look at the things that are before your face? If any man trusteth in himself that he is Christ’s, let him consider this again of himself, that, even as he is Christ’s, so also are we Christ’s.

Бо коли б я і більше став хвалитися нашою владою, що Господь дав нам на будування, а не на руйнування ваше, то не осоромився б.	For even though I also should glory somewhat abundantly concerning our authority (which the Lord gave us for building you up, and not for casting you down), I shall not be put to shame:

Втім, нехай не здається, що я залякую вас посланнями.	that I may not seem as if I would terrify you by my letters.
10	10
Так як дехто говорить: послання його важкі і міцні, а особисто присутній — слабкий, і мова його незначна, —	For, His letters, they say, are weighty and strong; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech of no account.
11	11
такий нехай знає, що які ми на словах у посланнях заочно, такі самі і на ділі особисто.	Let such a one reckon this, that, what we are in word by letters when we are absent, such are we also in deed when we are present.

Бо ми не сміємо рівняти або прирівнювати себе до тих, які самі себе виставляють: вони міряють себе самими собою та порівнюють себе з собою нерозумно.	For we are not bold to number or compare ourselves with certain of them that commend themselves: but they themselves, measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves with themselves, are without understanding.

А ми не будемо хвалитися безмірно, але за мірилом, що призначив нам Бог, як таку міру, щоб досягти і до вас.	But we will not glory beyond our measure, but according to the measure of the province which God apportioned to us as a measure, to reach even unto you.

Бо ми не напружуємо себе, як ті, що не досягли до вас, тому що ми досягли і до вас благовістям Христовим.	For we stretch not ourselves overmuch, as though we reached not unto you: for we came even as far as unto you in the gospel of Christ:

Ми не без міри хвалимося, не чужими трудами, але надіємось, що разом із зростанням віри вашої ми звеличимося між вами надміру,	not glorying beyond our measure, that is, in other men’s labors; but having hope that, as your faith groweth, we shall be magnified in you according to our province unto further abundance,
16	16
так щоб проповідувати Євангеліє і далеко за вами, а не хвалитися готовим у чужому ділі.	so as to preach the gospel even unto the parts beyond you, and not to glory in another’s province in regard of things ready to our hand.

«А хто хвалиться, нехай хвалиться в Господi».	But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
18	18
Бо не той достойний, хто сам себе хвалить, але кого хвалить Господь.	For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.
Глава 11	Chapter 11

1	1
О, коли б ви були трохи поблажливіші до мого безумства! Але ви і поблажливі до мене.	Would that ye could bear with me a little in my foolishness: but indeed ye do bear with me.
2	2
Бо я турбуюся про вас ревністю Божою; тому що я заручив вас єдиному мужу, щоб представити Христу вас чистою дівою.	For I am jealous over you with a godly jealousy: for I espoused you to one husband, that I might present you as a pure virgin to Christ.
3	3
Але боюсь, щоб, як змій хитрістю обманув Єву, так і ваші уми щоб не пошкодились, ухилившись від простоти у Христі.	But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve in his craftiness, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

Бо якби хто, прийшовши, почав проповідувати іншого Ісуса, Якого ми не проповідували, або коли б ви одержали іншого Духа, Якого не одержали, або інше благовістя, якого не приймали, — то ви були б дуже поблажливі до цього.	For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we did not preach, or if ye receive a different spirit, which ye did not receive, or a different gospel, which ye did not accept, ye might well bear with him.

Але я думаю, що я ні в чому не менший від великих апостолів:	For I reckon that I am not a whit behind the very chiefest apostles.

хоч я і неук у слові, але не в пізнанні. Втім, ми у всьому цілком відомі вам.	But though I be rude in speech, yet am I not in knowledge; nay, in every way have we been made manifest unto you in all things.

Чи згрішив я тим, що принижував себе, щоб піднести вас; бо безвідплатно проповідував вам Євангеліє Боже?	Or did I commit a sin in abasing myself that ye might be exalted, because I preached to you the gospel of God for nought?

Від інших церков я одержував плату для служіння вам; а перебуваючи у вас, хоч і терпів нестаток, нікому не докучав,	I robbed other churches, taking wages of them that I might minister unto you;

бо нестаток мій поповнили браття, що прийшли з Македонії; та й у всьому я старався і постараюсь не бути для вас тягарем.	and when I was present with you and was in want, I was not a burden on any man; for the brethren, when they came from Macedonia, supplied the measure of my want; and in everything I kept myself from being burdensome unto you, and so will I keep myself.

По істині Христовій, що в мені, скажу, що ця похвала не відбереться від мене в країнах Ахайї.	As the truth of Christ is in me, no man shall stop me of this glorying in the regions of Achaia.

Чому ж я так чиню? Чи тому, що не люблю вас? Богові відомо! Але так роблю і так робитиму,	Wherefore? because I love you not? God knoweth.

щоб не дати приводу тим, хто шукає приводу, щоб вони, чим хваляться, у тому виявились такими ж, як і ми.	But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from them that desire an occasion; that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we.

Бо такі лжеапостоли — лукаві працівники, що набирають вигляду апостолів Христових.	For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, fashioning themselves into apostles of Christ.

І не дивно: адже сам сатана набирає вигляду ангела світла,	And no marvel; for even Satan fashioneth himself into an angel of light.
15	15
а тому не велика річ, коли й слуги його набирають вигляду служителів правди; але кінець їх буде по ділах їхніх.	It is no great thing therefore if his ministers also fashion themselves as ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

Ще скажу: нехай не вважає хто-небудь мене нерозумним, а якщо не так, то прийміть мене хоч як нерозумного, щоб і мені скільки-небудь похвалитися.	I say again, Let no man think me foolish; but if ye do, yet as foolish receive me, that I also may glory a little.

А що кажу, то кажу не в Господі, але ніби в безумстві при такій відвазі на похвалу.	That which I speak, I speak not after the Lord, but as in foolishness, in this confidence of glorying.

Як багато хто хвалиться за плоттю, то і я буду хвалитися.	Seeing that many glory after the flesh, I will glory also.

Бо ви, люди розумні, охоче терпите нерозумних:	For ye bear with the foolish gladly, being wise yourselves.

ви терпите, коли хто вас поневолює, коли хто об’їдає, коли хто вас оббирає, коли хто звеличується, коли хто б’є вас в обличчя.	For ye bear with a man, if he bringeth you into bondage, if he devoureth you, if he taketh you captive, if he exalteth himself, if he smiteth you on the face.

Hа сором скажу, що на це у нас не вистачало сили. А коли хто сміє хвалитися чим-небудь, то (кажу з нерозуму) смію і я.	I speak by way of disparagement, as though we were weak. Yet whereinsoever any is bold (I speak in foolishness), I am bold also.

Вони євреї? І я. Ізраїльтяни? І я. Сíм’я Авраамове? І я.	Are they Hebrews? so am I. Are they Israelites? so am I. Are they the seed of Abraham? so am I.

Христові служителі? У нерозумі говорю — я більше. Я значно більше був у трудах, безмірно в ранах, більше у в’язницях і багаторазово при смерті.	Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as one beside himself) I more; in labors more abundantly, in stripes above measure, in prisons more abundantly, in deaths oft.

Від юдеїв п’ять разів дано було мені по сорок ударів без одного;	Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one.

три рази мене били палицями, один раз побивали камінням; три рази розбивався зі мною корабель, ніч і день пробув я у безодні морській;	Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day have I been in the deep;

багато разів був я у подорожах, у небезпеках на річках, у небезпеках від розбійників, у небезпеках від єдиноплемінників, у небезпеках від язичників, у небезпеках у місті, у небезпеках в пустелі, у небезпеках на морі, у небезпеках між лжебратами,	in journeyings often, in perils of rivers, in perils of robbers, in perils from my countrymen, in perils from the Gentiles, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren;

в труді й у виснаженні, часто без сну, в голоді і спразі, часто в постах, на холоді і в наготі.	in labor and travail, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness.

Крім зовнішнього‚ налягають на мене щоденні клопоти, турбота про всі церкви.	Besides those things that are without, there is that which presseth upon me daily, anxiety for all the churches.

Хто знемагає, з ким і я не знемагав би? Хто спокушається, за кого б я не палав би?	Who is weak, and I am not weak? who is caused to stumble, and I burn not?

Бог і Отець Господа нашого Ісуса Христа, благословенний повік, знає, що я кажу правду.	The God and Father of the Lord Jesus Christ, he who is blessed forevermore knoweth that I lie not.

У Дамаску обласний правитель царя Арети стеріг місто Дамаск, щоб схопити мене, і мене в кошику спустили з вікна по стіні, і я уник його рук.	In Damascus the governor under Aretas the king guarded the city of the Damascenes, desiring to take me:
Глава 12	Chapter 12

1	1
Hе корисно хвалитися мені, бо я прийду до видінь і одкровень Господніх.	Surely it is not expedient for me to glory; for I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord.
2	2
Знаю чоловіка у Христі, який чотирнадцять років тому (чи в тілі — не знаю, чи без тіла — не знаю‚ Бог відає) узятий був до третього неба.	I know a man in Christ, fourteen years ago (whether in the body, I know not; or whether out of the body, I know not; God knoweth), such a one caught up even to the third heaven.

І знаю про такого чоловіка (не знаю — в тілі чи без тіла‚ Бог відає),	And I know such a man (whether in the body, or out of the body, I know not; God knoweth),
4	4
що він був узятий в рай і чув невимовні слова, яких людині не можна переказати.	how that he was caught up into Paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.
5	5
Таким чоловіком можу хвалитись; собою ж не похвалюся, хіба тільки немочами моїми.	On behalf of such a one will I glory: but on mine own behalf I will not glory, save in my weaknesses.
6	6
А коли я захочу хвалитися, не буду безумний, бо скажу істину; але я утримуюсь, щоб ніхто не подумав про мене більше, ніж скільки в мені бачить або чує від мене.	For if I should desire to glory, I shall not be foolish; for I shall speak the truth: but I forbear, lest any man should account of me above that which he seeth me to be, or anything he heareth from me.

А щоб я не звеличувався надзвичайністю одкровень, дано мені жало у плоть, ангел сатани, пригнічувати мене, щоб я не величався.	And by reason of the exceeding greatness of the revelations, that I should not be exalted overmuch, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, that I should not be exalted overmuch.

Тричі благав я Господа про те, щоб він відступився від мене.	Concerning this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.
9	9
Але Господь сказав мені: «Досить для тебе благодаті Моєї, бо сила Моя виявляється в немочi». І тому я значно охочіше буду хвалитися немочами своїми, щоб перебувала в мені сила Христова.	And he hath said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my power is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Тому я себе почуваю добре в немочах, у кривдах, у нестатках, у гоніннях, в утисках за Христа, бо, коли я немічний, тоді сильний.	Wherefore I take pleasure in weaknesses, in injuries, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

Я дійшов до безумства, хвалячись; ви мене до цього змусили. Вам би слід було хвалити мене, бо в мене ні в чому нема недостатку супроти найперших апостолів, хоч я і ніщо.	I am become foolish in glorying: ye compelled me; for I ought to have been commended of you: for in nothing was I behind the very chiefest apostles, though I am nothing.
12	12
Ознаки апостола виявилися перед вами всяким терпінням, знаменнями, чудесами і силами.	Truly the signs of an apostle were wrought among you in all patience, in signs and wonders and mighty works.
13	13
Бо чого не вистачає у вас перед іншими церквами, хіба тільки того, що сам я не був вам тягарем? Простіть мені таку провину.	For what is there wherein ye were made inferior to the rest of the churches, except it be that I myself was not a burden to you? forgive me this wrong.
14	14
Ось третій раз я готовий іти до вас, і не буду вас обтяжувати‚ бо шукаю не вашого, а вас. Hе діти повинні збирати майно для батьків, а батьки для дітей.	Behold, a third time I am ready to come to you; and I will not be a burden to you: for I seek not yours, but you: for the children ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children.
15	15
Я охоче буду витрачати своє і виснажувати себе за душі ваші, не зважаючи на те, що, надзвичайно люблячи вас, я менше люблений вами.	And I will most gladly spend and be spent for your souls, though the more abundantly I love you, the less I am loved.
16	16
Припустимо, що сам я не обтяжував вас, але, бувши хитрим, лукавством брав з вас.	But be it so, I did not myself burden you; but, being crafty, I caught you with guile.
17	17
Але чи користувався я чим від вас через кого-небудь з тих, кого посилав до вас?	Did I take advantage of you by any one of them whom I have sent unto you?
18	18
Я упросив Тита і послав із ним одного з братів: чи скористався Тит чим від вас? Чи не в одному дусі ми діяли? Чи не однією дорогою ходили?	I exhorted Titus, and I sent the brother with him. Did Titus take any advantage of you? walked we not in the same spirit? walked we not in the same steps?

Чи не думаєте ще, що ми тільки виправдовуємося перед вами? Ми говоримо перед Богом, у Христі, і все це, улюблені, для вашого повчання.	Again, think ye that we are excusing ourselves unto you? In the sight of God speak we in Christ. But all things, beloved, are for your edifying.
20	20
Бо я боюсь, щоб мені, прийшовши до вас, не знайти вас такими, якими не бажаю, також щоб і вам не знайти мене таким, яким не бажаєте; щоб не знайти у вас розбрату, заздрости, гніву, сварок, наклепів, нашептів‚ пихи, безладдя,	For I fear, lest by any means, when I come, I should find you not such as I would, and should myself be found of you such as ye would not; lest by any means there should be strifes, jealousies, wraths, factions, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults;

щоб знов, коли прийду, не принизив мене у вас Бог мій, і щоб не оплакувати мені багатьох, що згрішили раніш і не покаялись у нечистоті, блуді та непотребстві, яке чинили.	lest again when I come my God will humble me before you, and I should mourn for many of them that have sinned heretofore, and repented not of the uncleanness and fornication and lasciviousness which they committed.
Глава 13	Chapter 13

1	1
Третій раз уже іду до вас. При устах двох або трьох свідків буде твердим усяке слово.	This is the third time I am coming to you. At the mouth of two witnesses or three shall every word be established.
2	2
Я попереджав і попереджаю, як перебуваючи у вас вдруге, так і тепер, будучи відсутнім, пишу тим, які раніше згрішили, та всім іншим, що, коли знов прийду, не пощаджу.	I have said beforehand, and I do say beforehand, as if I were present the second time; and being absent now I write to them that have sinned heretofore, and to all the rest, that, if I come again, I will not spare;

Ви шукаєте доказу того, чи говорить у мені Христос: Він не безсилий для вас, але сильний у вас.	seeing that ye seek a proof of Christ that speaketh in me; who to you-ward is not weak, but is powerful in you:

Бо, хоч він і розп’ятий у немочі, але живий силою Божою; і ми також, хоч немічні в Hьому, але будемо живі з Hим силою Божою у вас.	for though he was crucified through weakness, yet he liveth through the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but we shall live with him through the power of God toward you.
5	5
Перевіряйте самих себе, чи у вірі ви; самих себе досліджуйте. Чи ви не знаєте самих себе, що Ісус Христос у вас? Хіба тільки ви не ті, ким повинні бути.	Try your own selves, whether ye are in the faith; prove your own selves. Or know ye not as to your own selves, that Jesus Christ is in you? unless indeed ye be reprobate.
6	6
Про нас же, сподіваюся, дізнаєтесь, що ми ті, ким бути повинні.	But I hope that ye shall know that we are not reprobate.
7	7
Молимо Бога, щоб ви не чинили ніякого зла, не для того, щоб нам показатися, ким повинні бути; але щоб ви робили добро, хоч би ми здавалися і не тими, ким повинні бути.	Now I pray to God that ye do no evil; not that we may appear approved, but that ye may do that which is honorable, though we be as reprobate.
8	8
Бо ми не сильні проти істини, але сильні за істину.	For we can do nothing against the truth, but for the truth.
9	9
Ми радіємо, коли ми немічні, а ви сильні, за це ми і молимось, за вашу досконалість.	For we rejoice, when we are weak, and ye are strong: and this we also pray for, even your perfecting.
10	10
Для того я й пишу це у відсутності, щоб у присутності не вжити суворости за владою, даною мені Господом на будування, а не на розорення.	For this cause I write these things while absent, that I may not when present deal sharply, according to the authority which the Lord gave me for building up, and not for casting down.
11	11
А втім, браття, радуйтесь, довершуйтесь, утішайтесь, будьте однодумні, мирні, — і Бог любови й миру буде з вами.	Finally, brethren, rejoice; be perfected; be comforted; be of the same mind; live in peace: and the God of love and peace shall be with you.
12	12
Вітайте один одного цілуванням святим. Вітають вас усі святі!	Salute one another with a holy kiss.
13	13
Благодать Господа нашого Ісуса Христа, і любов Бога Отця‚ і причастя Святого Духа нехай буде зо всіма вами. Амінь.	All the saints salute you.
