| І сказав Самуїл усьому Ізраїлю: ось, я послухався голосу вашого в усьому, що ви говорили мені, і поставив над вами царя, | And Samuel said to all Israel, Behold, I have hearkened to your voice in all things that ye have said to me, and I have set a king over you. |
|

| і ось, цар ходить перед вами; а я постарів і посивів; і сини мої з вами; я ж ходив перед вами від юности моєї і до цього дня; | And now, behold, the king goes before you; and I am grown old and shall rest; and, behold, my sons are among you; and, behold, I have gone about before you from my youth to this day. |

| ось я; свідчіть на мене перед Господом і перед помазаником Його, у кого взяв я вола, у кого взяв осла, кого скривдив і кого пригнобив, у кого взяв дарунок і закрив очі мої у справі його, — і я поверну вам. | Behold, here am I, answer against me before the Lord and before his anointed: whose calf have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom of you have I oppressed? or whom have I been violent with? or from whose hand have I taken a bribe, even to a sandal? bear witness against me, and I will make restitution to you. |

| І відповіли: ти не кривдив нас і не утискував нас і ні в кого нічого не взяв. | And they said to Samuel, Thou hast not injured us, and thou hast not oppressed us; and thou hast not afflicted us, and thou hast not taken anything from any one's hand. |

| І сказав він їм: свідок на вас Господь, і свідок помазаник Його в цей день, що ви не знайшли нічого за мною. І сказали: свідок. | And Samuel said to the people, The Lord is witness among you, and his anointed is witness this day, that ye have not found anything in my hand: and they said, He is witness. |

| Тоді Самуїл сказав народу: [свідок] Господь, Який поставив Мойсея й Аарона і Який вивів батьків ваших із землі Єгипетської. | And Samuel spoke to the people, saying, The Lord who appointed Moses and Aaron is witness, who brought our fathers up out of Egypt. |

| Тепер же станьте, і я буду судитися з вами перед Господом за всі благодіяння, що зробив Він вам і батькам вашим. | And now stand still, and I will judge you before the Lord; and I will relate to you all the righteousness of the Lord, the things which he has wrought among you and your fathers. |

| Коли прийшов Яків у Єгипет, і батьки ваші воззвали до Господа, то Господь послав Мойсея й Аарона, і вони вивели батьків ваших з Єгипту й оселили їх на місці цім. | When Jacob and his sons went into Egypt, and Egypt humbled them, then our fathers cried to the Lord, and the Lord sent Moses and Aaron; and they brought our fathers out of Egypt, and he made them to dwell in this place. |

| Але вони забули Господа Бога свого, і Він віддав їх у руки Сисари, воєначальника асорського, і в руки филистимлян і в руки царя Моавитського, які воювали проти них. | And they forgot the Lord their God, and he sold them into the hands of Sisara captain of the host of Jabis king of Asor, and into the hands of the Philistines, and into the hands of the king of Moab; and he fought with them. |

| Але коли вони воззвали до Господа і сказали: «згрішили ми, бо залишили Господа і стали служити Ваалу і Астарті, тепер визволи нас від руки ворогів наших, і ми будемо служити Тобі», | And they cried to the Lord, and said, We have sinned, for we have forsaken the Lord, and have served Baalim and the groves: and now deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, and we will serve thee. |

| тоді Господь послав Ієроваала, і Варака, й Ієффая, і Самуїла, і визволив вас від руки ворогів ваших, які оточували вас, і ви жили безпечно. | And he sent Jerobaal, and Barac, and Jephthae, and Samuel, and rescued us out of the hand of our enemies round about, and ye dwelt in security. |

| Але, побачивши, що Наас, цар Аммонитський, іде проти вас, ви сказали мені: «ні, нехай цар царює над нами», тоді як Господь Бог ваш — Цар ваш. | And ye saw that Naas king of the children of Ammon came against you, and ye said, Nay, none but a king shall reign over us; whereas the Lord our God is our king. |

| Отже, ось цар, якого ви обрали, якого ви вимагали: ось, Господь поставив над вами царя. | And now behold the king whom ye have chosen; and behold, the Lord has set a king over you. |
|

| Якщо будете боятися Господа і служити Йому і слухати голосу Його, і не будете противитися повелінням Господа, і будете і ви і цар ваш, який царює над вами, ходити вслід Господа, Бога вашого, [то рука Господа не буде проти вас]; | If ye should fear the Lord, and serve him, and hearken to his voice, and not resist the mouth of the Lord, and ye and your king that reigns over you should follow the Lord, well. |

| а якщо не будете слухати голосу Господа і будете противитися повелінням Господа, то рука Господа буде проти вас, як була проти батьків ваших. | But if ye should not hearken to the voice of the Lord, and ye should resist the mouth of the Lord, then shall the hand of the Lord be upon you and upon your king. |

| Тепер станьте і подивіться на діло велике, яке Господь вчинить перед очима вашими: | And now stand still, and see this great thing, which the Lord will do before your eyes. |
|

| чи не жнива пшениці нині? Але я помолюся до Господа, і Він пошле грім і дощ, і ви дізнаєтеся і побачите, наскільки великий гріх, який ви вчинили перед очима Господа, просячи собі царя. | Is it not wheat-harvest to-day? I will call upon the Lord, and he shall send thunder and rain; and know ye and see, that your wickedness is great which ye have wrought before the Lord, having asked for yourselves a king. |

| І воззвав Самуїл до Господа, і Господь послав грім і дощ у той день; і прийшов весь народ у великий страх від Господа і Самуїла. | And Samuel called upon the Lord, and the Lord sent thunders and rain in that day; and all the people feared greatly the Lord and Samuel. |
|

|
| І сказав весь народ Самуїлу: помолися за рабів твоїх перед Господом Богом твоїм, щоб не померти нам; бо до всіх гріхів наших ми додали ще гріх, коли просили собі царя. | And all the people said to Samuel, Pray for thy servants to the Lord thy God, and let us not die; for we have added to all our sins this iniquity, in asking for us a king. |

| І відповів Самуїл народу: не бійтеся, гріх цей вами вчинений, але ви тільки не відступайте від Господа і служіть Господу всім серцем вашим | And Samuel said to the people, Fear not: ye have indeed wrought all this iniquity; only turn not from following the Lord, and serve the Lord with all your heart. |

| і не звертайтеся вслід нікчемним богам, які не принесуть користі і не визволять; тому що вони — ніщо; | And turn not aside after the gods that are nothing, who will do nothing, and will not deliver you, because they are nothing. |
|

| Господь же не залишить народу Свого заради великого імені Свого, бо Господу вгодно було обрати вас народом Своїм; | For the Lord will not cast off his people for his great name's sake, because the Lord graciously took you to himself for a people. |
|

|
| і я також не допущу собі гріха перед Господом, щоб припинити молитися за вас, і буду наставляти вас на путь добру і пряму; | And far be it from me to sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray for you: but I will serve the Lord, and shew you the good and the right way. |
|

|
| тільки бійтеся Господа і служіть Йому істинно, від усього серця вашого, бо ви бачили, які великі діла Він зробив з вами; | Only fear the Lord, and serve him in truth and with all your heart, for ye see what great things he has wrought with you. |
|

|
| якщо ж ви будете робити зло, то і ви і цар ваш загинете. | But if ye continue to do evil, then shall ye and your king be consumed. |
