| У третій рік Кира, царя Перського, було одкровення Даниїлові, який називався ім’ям Валтасара; й істинне було це одкровення і великої сили. Він зрозумів це одкровення і зрозумів це видіння. | In the third year of Cyrus king of the Persians a thing was revealed to Daniel, whose name was called Baltasar; and the thing was true, and great power and understanding in the vision was given to him. |

| У ці дні я, Даниїл, був у смутку три седмиці днів. | In those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks. |

| Смачного хліба я не їв; м’ясо і вино не входили у вуста мої, і мастями я не намащував себе до виконання трьох седмиць днів. | I ate no pleasant bread, and no flesh or wine entered into my mouth, neither did I anoint myself with oil, until three whole weeks were accomplished. |

| А в двадцять четвертий день першого місяця був я на березі великої ріки Тигру, | On the twenty-fourth day of the first month, I was near the great river, which is Tigris Eddekel. |

| і звів очі мої, і побачив: ось один муж, одягнений у лляний одяг, і стегна його оперезані золотом з Уфаза. | And I lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a man clothed in linen, and his loins were girt with gold of Ophaz: |

| Тіло його — як топаз, лице його — як вигляд блискавки; очі його — як запалені світильники, руки його і ноги його на вигляд — як блискуча мідь, і глас мови його — як голос багатьох людей. | and his body was as Tharsis, and his face was as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and his legs as the appearance of shining brass, and the voice of his words as the voice of a multitude. |

| І тільки один я, Даниїл, бачив це видіння, а люди, які були зі мною, не бачили цього видіння; але сильний страх напав на них і вони втекли, щоб сховатися. | And I Daniel only saw the vision: and the men that were with me saw not the vision; but a great amazement fell upon them, and they fled in fear. |

| І залишився я один і дивився на це велике видіння, але у мені не залишилося сили, і вигляд лиця мого надзвичайно змінився, не стало в мені бадьорости. | So I was left alone, and saw this great vision, and there was no strength left in me, and my glory was turned into corruption, and I retained no strength. |

| І почув я голос слів його; і як тільки почув голос слів його, у заціпенінні упав я на лице моє і лежав лицем на землі. | Yet I heard the voice of his words: and when I heard him I was pricked in the heart, and I fell with my face to the earth. |

| Але ось, торкнулася мене рука і поставила мене на коліна мої і на долоні рук моїх. | And, behold, a hand touched me, and it raised me on my knees. |
|

|
| І сказав він мені: «Даниїле, муже бажань! вникни у слова, які я скажу тобі, і стань прямо на ноги твої; бо до тебе я посланий нині». Коли він сказав мені ці слова, я встав з трепетом. | And he said to me, O Daniel, man greatly beloved, understand the words which I speak to thee, and stand upright: for I am now sent to thee. And when he had spoken to me this word, I stood trembling. |

| Але він сказав мені: «не бійся, Даниїле; з першого дня, як ти приготував серце твоє, щоб досягти розуміння і смирити себе перед Богом твоїм, слова твої почуті, і я прийшов би за словами твоїми. | And he said to me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to afflict thyself before the Lord thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come because of thy words. |

| Але князь царства Перського стояв проти мене двадцять один день; але ось, Михаїл, один з перших князів, прийшов допомогти мені, і я залишився там при царях перських. | But the prince of the kingdom of the Persians withstood me twenty-one days: and behold, Michael, one of the princes, came to help me; and I left him there with the chief of the kingdom of the Persians: |

| А тепер я прийшов звістити тобі, що буде з народом твоїм в останні часи, тому що видіння стосується до віддалених днів». | and I have come to inform thee of all that shall befall thy people in the last days: for the vision is yet for many days. |
|

| Коли він говорив мені такі слова, я припав лицем моїм до землі й онімів. | And when he had spoken with me according to these words, I turned my face to the ground, and was pricked in the heart. |
|

| Але ось, хтось, на вигляд схожий на синів людських, торкнувся вуст моїх, і я відкрив уста мої, став говорити і сказав тому, хто стояв переді мною: «господарю мій! від цього видіння нутрощі мої повернулися у мені, і не стало у мені сили. | And, behold, as it were the likeness of a son of man touched my lips; and I opened my mouth, and spoke, and said to him that stood before me, O my lord, at the sight of thee my bowels were turned within me, and I had no strength. |

| І як може говорити раб такого господаря мого з таким господарем моїм? бо у мені немає сили, і дихання завмерло у мені». | And how shall thy servant be able, O my lord, to speak with this my lord? and as for me, from henceforth strength will not remain in me, and there is no breath left in me. |
|

| Тоді знову доторкнулася до мене та людська подоба й укріпила мене | And there touched me again as it were the appearance of a man, and he strengthened me, |
|

|
| і сказала: «не бійся, муже бажань! мир тобі; мужайся, мужайся!» І коли він говорив зі мною, я укріпився і сказав: «говори, господарю мій; бо ти укріпив мене». | and said to me, Fear not, man greatly beloved: peace be to thee, quit thyself like a man, and be strong. And when he had spoken with me, I received strength, and said, Let my lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me. |

| І він сказав: «чи знаєш, для чого я прийшов до тебе? Тепер я повернуся, щоб боротися з князем Перським; а коли я вийду, то ось, прийде князь Греції. | And he said, Knowest thou, wherefore I am come to thee? and now I will return to fight with the prince of the Persians: and I was going in, and the prince of the Greeks came. |

| Втім, я звіщу тобі, що написано в істинному писанні; і немає нікого, хто підтримував би мене у тім, крім Михаїла, князя вашого. | But I will tell thee that which is ordained in the scripture of truth: and there is no one that holds with me in these matters but Michael your prince. |
