| (Зач. 5) Во дні же о́ни при́йде Іоа́нн Крести́тель, пропові́дая в пусти́ні Іуде́йстій | And in those days cometh John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, |

| і глаго́ля: пока́йтеся, прибли́жибося Ца́рствіє Небе́сноє. | and saying, Repent ye; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. |

| Сей бо єсть річе́нний Іса́єм проро́ком, глаго́лющим: глас вопію́щаго в пусти́ні: угото́вайте путь Госпо́день, пра́ви творі́те стезі́ Єго́. | For this is he that was spoken of by Isaiah the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ye ready the way of the Lord, Make his paths straight. |

| Сам же Іоа́нн ім'я́ше ри́зу свою́ от влас вельблу́ждь і по́яс усме́н о чреслі́х свої́х, снідь же єго́ бі пру́жіє і мед ди́вій. | Now John himself had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his food was locusts and wild honey. |

| Тогда́ ісхожда́ше к нему́ Ієрусали́ма, і вся Іуде́я, і вся страна́ Іорда́нськая, | Then went out unto him Jerusalem, and all Judea, and all the region round about the Jordan; |

| і креща́хуся во Іорда́ні от него́, іспові́дающе гріхи́ своя́. | and they were baptized of him in the Jordan, confessing their sins. |

| Ви́дів же (Іоа́нн) мно́гі фарисе́ї і саддуке́ї, гряду́щия на креще́ніє єго́, рече́ їм: рожде́нія єхи́днова, кто сказа́ вам біжа́ти от бу́дущаго гні́ва? | But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said unto them, Ye offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? |

| сотворі́те у́бо плод, досто́їн покая́нія, | Bring forth therefore fruit worthy of repentance: |

| і не начина́йте глаго́лати в себі́: отця́ і́мами Авраа́ма. Глаго́лю бо вам, я́ко мо́жеть Бог от ка́менія сего́ воздви́гнути ча́да Авраа́му; | and think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. |

| уже́ бо і сіки́ра при ко́рені дре́ва лежи́ть; вся́ко у́бо дре́во, є́же не твори́ть плода́ добра́, посіка́ємо бива́єть і во огнь вмета́ємо; | And even now the axe lieth at the root of the trees: every tree therefore that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. |

| аз у́бо креща́ю ви водо́ю в покая́ніє, Гряди́й же по мні крі́плій мене́ єсть, Єму́же нісьм досто́їн сапоги́ понести́; Той ви крести́ть Ду́хом Святи́м і огне́м; | I indeed baptize you in water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you in the Holy Spirit: |

| Єму́же лопа́та в руці́ Єго́, і отреби́ть гумно́ Своє́, і собере́ть пшени́цю Свою́ в жи́тницю, пле́ви же сожже́ть огне́м негаса́ющим. | whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor; and he will gather his wheat into the garner, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire. |

| (Зач. 5) Тогда́ прихо́дить Ісу́с от Галиле́ї на Іорда́н ко Іоа́нну крести́тися от него́. | Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to the Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him. |

| Іоа́нн же возбраня́ше Єму́, глаго́ля: аз тре́бую Тобо́ю крести́тися, і Ти ли гряде́ши ко мні? | But John would have hindered him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? |

| Отвіща́в же Ісу́с рече́ к нему́: оста́ви ни́ні, та́ко бо подоба́єть нам іспо́лнити вся́ку пра́вду. Тогда́ оста́ви Єго́. | But Jesus answered and said unto him, Suffer it now: for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness. Then he suffereth him. |

| І крести́вся Ісу́с взи́де а́біє от води́; і се, отверзо́шася Єму́ небеса́, і ви́ді Ду́ха Бо́жия сходя́ща, я́ко го́луба, і гряду́ща на Него́. | And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightaway from the water: and lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming upon him; |

| І се, глас с небесе́ глаго́ля: Сей єсть Син Мой возлю́бленний, о Не́мже благоволи́х. | and lo, a voice out of the heavens, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. |
