| І переповів Ахав Ієзавелі все, що зробив Ілля, і те, що він убив усіх пророків мечем. | And Achaab told Jezabel his wife all that Eliu had done, and how he had slain the prophets with the sword. |

| І послала Ієзавель посланця до Іллі сказати: [якщо ти Ілля, а я Ієзавель, то] нехай те і те зроблять мені боги, і ще більше зроблять, якщо я завтра до цього часу не зроблю з твоєю душею того, що зроблено з душею кожного з них. | And Jezabel sent to Eliu, and said, If thou art Eliu and I am Jezabel, God do so to me, and more also, if I do not make thy life by this time to-morrow as the life of one of them. |

| Побачивши це, він встав і пішов, щоб урятувати життя своє, і прийшов у Вирсавію, що в Юдеї, і залишив слугу свого там. | And Eliu feared, and rose, and departed for his life: and he comes to Bersabee to the land of Juda, and he left his servant there. |

| А сам відійшов у пустелю на день путі і, прийшовши, сів під ялівцевим кущем, і просив смерти собі і сказав: досить уже, Господи; візьми душу мою, бо я не кращий за батьків моїх. | And he himself went a day's journey in the wilderness, and came and sat under a juniper tree; and asked concerning his life that he might die, and said, Let it be enough now, O Lord, take, I pray thee, my life from me; for I am no better than my fathers. |

| І ліг і заснув під ялівцевим кущем. І ось, ангел торкнувся його і сказав йому: встань, їж [і пий]. | And he lay down and slept there under a tree; and behold, some one touched him, and said to him, Arise and eat. |

| І глянув Ілля, і ось, біля голови його печений корж і глечик води. Він поїв і напився і знову заснув. | And Eliu looked, and, behold, at his head there was a cake of meal and a cruse of water; and he arose, and ate and drank, and returned and lay down. |

| І повернувся ангел Господній удруге, торкнувся його і сказав: встань, їж [і пий], бо далека дорога перед тобою. | And the angel of the Lord returned again, and touched him, and said to him, Arise, and eat, for the journey is far from thee. |
|

| І встав він, поїв і напився, і, підкріпившись тією їжею, йшов сорок днів і сорок ночей до гори Божої Хорива. | And he arose, and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights to mount Choreb. |

| І увійшов він там у печеру і ночував у ній. І ось, було до нього слово Господнє, і сказав йому Господь : що ти тут, Іллє? | And he entered there into a cave, and rested there; and, behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and he said, What doest thou here, Eliu? |

| Він сказав: поревнував я за Господа Бога Саваофа, тому що сини Ізраїлеві залишили завіт Твій, зруйнували Твої жертовники і пророків Твоїх убили мечем; залишився я один, але і моєї душі шукають, щоб відняти її. | And Eliu said, I have been very jealous for the Lord Almighty, because the children of Israel have forsaken thee: they have digged down thine altars, and have slain thy prophets with the sword; and I only am left alone, and they seek my life to take it. |

| І сказав: вийди і стань на горі перед лицем Господнім, і ось, Господь пройде, і великий і сильний вітер, що роздирає гори і розтрощує скелі перед Господом, але не у вітрі Господь; після вітру землетрус, але не в землетрусі Господь; | And he said, Thou shalt go forth to-morrow, and shalt stand before the Lord in the mount; behold, the Lord will pass by. And, behold, a great and strong wind rending the mountains, and crushing the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake: |

| після землетрусу вогонь, але не у вогні Господь; після вогню віяння тихого вітру, [і там Господь]. | and after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire the voice of a gentle breeze. |
|

| Почувши це , Ілля закрив лице своє милоттю своєю, і вийшов, і став біля входу в печеру. І був до нього голос і сказав йому: що ти тут, Іллє? | And it came to pass when Eliu heard, that he wrapt his face in his mantle, and went forth and stood in the cave: and, behold, a voice came to him and said, What doest thou here, Eliu? |

| Він сказав: поревнував я за Господа Бога Саваофа, бо сини Ізраїлеві залишили завіт Твій, зруйнували жертовники Твої і пророків Твоїх убили мечем; залишився я один, але і моєї душі шукають, щоб відняти її. | And Eliu said, I have been very jealous for the Lord Almighty; for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, and they have overthrown thine altars, and have slain thy prophets with the sword! and I am left entirely alone, and they seek my life to take it. |

| І сказав йому Господь: піди назад своєю дорогою через пустелю в Дамаск, і коли прийдеш, то помаж Азаїла на царя над Сирією, | And the Lord said to him, Go, return, and thou shalt come into the way of the wilderness of Damascus: and thou shalt go and anoint Azael to be king over Syria. |

| а Іиуя, сина Намессіїного, помаж на царя над Ізраїлем; Єлисея ж, сина Сафатового, з Авел-Мехоли, помаж на пророка замість себе; | And Ju the son of Namessi shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel; and Elisaie the son of Saphat shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room. |

| хто втече від меча Азаїлового, того умертвить Іиуй; а хто врятується від меча Іиуєвого, того умертвить Єлисей. | And it shall come to pass, that him that escapes from the sword of Azael, Ju shall slay; and him that escapes from the sword of Ju, Elisaie shall slay. |

| Утім, Я залишив між ізраїльтянами сім тисяч [мужів]; всіх цих коліна не схилялися перед Ваалом, і всіх цих уста не цілували його. | And thou shalt leave in Israel seven thousand men, all the knees which had not bowed themselves to Baal, and every mouth which had not worshipped him. |

| І пішов він звідти, і знайшов Єлисея, сина Сафатового, коли він орав; дванадцять пар [волів] було в нього, і сам він був при дванадцятій. Ілля, проходячи повз нього, кинув на нього милоть свою. | And he departed thence, and finds Elisaie the son of Saphat, and he was ploughing with oxen; there were twelve yoke before him, and he with the twelve, and he passed by to him, and cast his mantle upon him. |

| І залишив [Єлисей] волів, і побіг за Іллею, і сказав: дозволь мені поцілувати батька мого і матір мою, і я піду за тобою. Він сказав йому: піди і приходь назад, бо що зробив я тобі? | And Elisaie left the cattle, and ran after Eliu and said, I will kiss my father, and follow after thee. And Eliu said, Return, for I have done a work for thee. |

| Він, відійшовши від нього, взяв пару волів і заколов їх і, запаливши плуг волів, засмажив м’ясо їх, і роздав людям, і вони їли. А сам встав і пішов за Іллею, і став служити йому. | And he returned from following him, and took a yoke of oxen, and slew them, and boiled them with the instruments of the oxen, and gave to the people, and they ate: and he arose, and went after Eliu, and ministered to him. |
