| Двадцяти років був Ахаз, коли став царем, і шістнадцять років царював у Єрусалимі; і він не робив угодного в очах Господніх, як робив Давид, батько його: | Achaz was five and twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem: and he did not that which was right in the sight of the Lord, as David his father. |

| він ішов путями царів ізраїльських, і навіть зробив відлиті статуї Ваалів; | But he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, for he made graven images. |
|

|
| і він звершував куріння в долині синів Еннома, і проводив синів своїх через вогонь, наслідуючи мерзоти народів, яких вигнав Господь перед лицем синів Ізраїлевих; | And he sacrificed to their idols in the valley of Benennom, and passed his children through the fire, according to the abominations of the heathen, whom the Lord cast out from before the children of Israel. |

| і приносив жертви і куріння на висотах і на пагорбах і під усяким гіллястим деревом. | And he burnt incense upon the high places, and upon the roofs, and under every shady tree. |

| І віддав його Господь Бог його в руки царя сиріян, і вони вразили його і взяли в нього багато полонених і відвели в Дамаск. Також і в руки царя Ізраїльського був він відданий, і той учинив над ним велику поразку. | And the Lord his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Syria; and he smote him, and took captive of them a great band of prisoners, and carried him to Damascus. Also God delivered him into the hands of the king of Israel, who smote him with a great slaughter. |

| І побив Факей, син Ремалиїн, [цар Ізраїльський,] юдеїв сто двадцять тисяч в один день, людей войовничих, тому що вони залишили Господа Бога батьків своїх. | And Phakee the son of Romelias king of Israel, slew in Juda in one day a hundred and twenty thousand mighty men; because they had forsaken the Lord God of their fathers. |

| Зихрій же, силач з єфремлян, убив Маасею, сина царя, й Азрикама, який був начальником над палацом, і Елкану, другого після царя. | And Zechri, a mighty man of Ephraim, slew Maasias the king's son, and Ezrican the chief of his house, and Elcana the king's deputy. |

| І взяли сини Ізраїлеві в полон у братів своїх, юдеїв, двісті тисяч дружин, синів і дочок; також і багато здобичі награбували в них, і відправили здобич у Самарію. | And the children of Israel took captive of their brethren three hundred thousand, women, and sons, and daughters, and they spoiled them of much property, and brought the spoils to Samaria. |

| Там був пророк Господній, ім’я його Одед. Він вийшов перед лице війська, яке йшло в Самарію, і сказав їм: ось Господь Бог батьків ваших, у гніві на юдеїв, віддав їх у руки ваші, і ви побили їх з такою люттю, яка досягла небес. | And there was there a prophet of the Lord, his name was Oded: and he went out to meet the host that were coming to Samaria, and said to them, Behold, the wrath of the Lord God of your fathers is upon Juda, and he has delivered them into your hands, and ye have slain them in wrath, and it has reached even to heaven. |

| І тепер ви думаєте поневолити синів Іуди і Єрусалима на рабів і рабинь собі. А хіба на вас самих немає провини перед Господом Богом вашим? | And now ye talk of keeping the children of Juda and Jerusalem for servants and handmaidens. Lo, am I not with you to testify for the Lord your God? |

| Отже, послухайте мене, і поверніть полонених, яких ви захопили з братів ваших, бо полум’я гніву Господнього на вас. | And now hearken to me, and restore the prisoners of your brethren whom ye have taken: for the fierce anger of the Lord is upon you. |

| І встали деякі з начальників синів Єфремових: Азарія, син Ієгоханана, Берехія, син Мешиллемофа, та Єзекія, син Шаллума, й Амаса, син Хадлая, проти тих, хто йшов з війни, | And the chiefs of the sons of Ephraim rose up, Udias the son of Joanas, and Barachias the son of Mosolamoth, and Ezekias the son of Sellem, and Amasias the son of Eldai, against those that came from the war, |

| і сказали їм: не вводьте сюди полонених, тому що гріх був би нам перед Господом. Невже ви думаєте додати до гріхів наших і до злочинів наших? велика провина наша, і полум’я гніву [Господнього] над Ізраїлем. | and said to them, Ye shall not bring in hither the prisoners to us, for whereas sin against the Lord is upon us, ye mean to add to our sins, and to our trespass: for our sin is great, and the fierce anger of the Lord is upon Israel. |

| І залишили озброєні полонених і здобич у воєначальників і всього зібрання. | So the warriors left the prisoners and the spoils before the princes and all the congregation. |

| І встали мужі, згадані за іменами, і взяли полонених, і всіх нагих з них одягли зі здобичі, — і одягли їх, і взули їх, і нагодували їх, і напоїли їх, і помазали їх єлеєм, і посадили на ослів усіх слабких з них, і відправили їх у Єрихон, місто пальм, до братів їхніх, і повернулися у Самарію. | And the men who were called by name rose up, and took hold of the prisoners, and clothed all the naked from the spoils, and gave them garments and shoes, and gave them food to eat, and oil to anoint themselves with, and they helped also every one that was weak with asses, and placed them in Jericho, the city of palm-trees, with their brethren; and they returned to Samaria. |

| У той час послав цар Ахаз до царів ассирійських, щоб вони допомогли йому, | At that time king Achaz sent to the king of Assyria to help him, and on this occasion, |

| тому що ідумеяни і ще приходили, і багатьох убили в Юдеї, і взяли в полон; | because the Idumæans had attacked him, and smitten Juda, and taken a number of prisoners. |
|

|
| і филистимляни розсипалися по містах низинного краю і півдня Юдеї і взяли Вефсамис і Аїалон, і Гедероф і Сохо і залежні від нього міста, і Фимну і залежні від неї міста, і Гимзо і залежні від нього міста, й оселилися там. | Also the Philistines had made an attack on the cities of the plain country, and the cities of the south of Juda, and taken Bæthsamys, and the things in the house of the Lord, and the things in the house of the king, and of the princes: and they gave to the king Ælon, and Galero, and Socho and her villages, and Thamna and her villages, and Gamzo and her villages: and they dwelt there. |

| Так принизив Господь юдеїв за Ахаза, царя Юдейського, тому що він розбестив Юдею і тяжко грішив перед Господом. | For the Lord humbled Juda because of Achaz king of Juda, because he grievously departed from the Lord. |

| І прийшов до нього Феглафелласар, цар Ассирійський, але був за тягар йому, замість того, щоб допомогти йому, | And there came against him Thalgaphellasar king of Assyria, and he afflicted him. |

| тому що Ахаз узяв скарби з дому Господнього і дому царського й у князів і віддав цареві Ассирійському, але не на допомогу собі. | And Achaz took the things that were in the house of the Lord, and the things in the house of the king, and of the princes, and gave them to the king of Assyria: but he was no help to him, |

| І в скрутний для себе час він продовжував беззаконно чинити перед Господом, він — цар Ахаз. | but only troubled him in his affliction: and he departed yet more from the Lord, and king Achaz said, |

| І приносив він жертви богам дамаським, думаючи, що вони вражали його, і говорив: боги царів сирійських допомагають їм; принесу я жертву їм, і вони допоможуть мені. Але вони були на падіння йому і всьому Ізраїлю. | I will seek after the gods of Damascus that smite me. And he said, Forasmuch as the gods of the king of Syria themselves strengthen them, therefore will I sacrifice to them, and they will help me. But they became a stumbling-block to him, and to all Israel. |

| І зібрав Ахаз сосуди дому Божого, і розтрощив сосуди дому Божого, і замкнув двері дому Господнього, і спорудив собі жертовники по всіх кутах в Єрусалимі, | And Achaz removed the vessels of the house of the Lord, and cut them in pieces, and shut the doors of the house of the Lord, and made to himself altars in every corner in Jerusalem: |

| і по всіх містах Іудиних спорудив висоти для кадіння богам іншим, і гнівив Господа Бога батьків своїх. | and in each several city in Juda he made high places to burn incense to strange gods: and they provoked the Lord God of their fathers. |

|
| Інші діла його й усі вчинки його, перші й останні, описані в книзі царів юдейських та ізраїльських. | And the rest of his acts, and his deeds, the first and the last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Juda and Israel. |
|

| І спочив Ахаз з батьками своїми, і поховали його в місті, в Єрусалимі, але не внесли його в гробниці царів Ізраїлевих. І став царем Єзекія, син його, замість нього. | And Achaz slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David; for they did not bring him into the sepulchres of the kings of Israel: and Ezekias his son reigned in his stead. |
