| І прибув Ровоам в Єрусалим і скликав з дому Іудиного і Веніамінового сто вісімдесят тисяч добірних воїнів, щоб воювати з Ізраїлем і повернути царство Ровоаму. | And Roboam came to Jerusalem; and he assembled Juda and Benjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand young men fit for war, and he waged war with Israel to recover the kingdom to Roboam. |

| І було слово Господнє до Самея, чоловіка Божого, і сказано: | And the word of the Lord came to Samaias the man of God, saying, |

| скажи Ровоаму, синові Соломона, цареві Юдейському, і всьому Ізраїлю в коліні Іудиному і Веніаміновому: | Speak to Roboam the son of Solomon, and to all Juda and Benjamin, saying, |
|

|
| так говорить Господь: не ходіть і не починайте війни з братами вашими; поверніться кожен у дім свій, бо Мною зроблено це. Вони послухалися слів Господніх і повернулися з походу проти Ієровоама. | Thus saith the Lord, Ye shall not go up, and ye shall not war against your brethren: return every one to his home; for this thing is of me. And they hearkened to the word of the Lord, and returned from going against Jeroboam. |

| Ровоам жив у Єрусалимі; він обніс міста в Юдеї стінами. | And Roboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and he built walled cities in Judæa. |
|

| Він укріпив Вифлеєм і Ефам, і Фекою, | And he built Bethleem, and Ætan and Thecoe, |
|

|
| і Вефцур, і Сохо, і Одоллам, | and Bæthsura, and Sochoth, and Odollam, |
|

|

|
| і Геф, і Марешу, і Зиф, | and Geth, and Marisa, and Ziph, |
|

|
9
|
| і Адораїм, і Лахис, і Азеку, | and Adorai, and Lachis, and Azeca, |
|
10
|
10
|
| і Цору, й Аїалон, і Хеврон, які знаходилися в коліні Іудиному і Веніаміновому. | and Saraa, and Ælom, and Chebron, which belongs to Juda and Benjamin, walled cities. |

| І укріпив він фортеці ці, і влаштував у них начальників і сховища для хліба і деревної олії і вина. | And he fortified them with walls, and placed in them captains, and stores of provisions, oil and wine, |
|

| І дав у кожне місто щити і списи й укріпив їх дуже сильно. І залишалися за ним Іуда і Веніамін. | shields and spears in every several city, and he fortified them very strongly, and he had on his side Juda and Benjamin. |
|

| І священики і левити, які були по всій землі Ізраїльській, зібралися до нього з усіх країв, | And the priests and the Levites who were in all Israel were gathered to him out of all the coasts. |
|

|
| тому що залишили левити свої міські передмістя і свої володіння і прийшли в Юдею і в Єрусалим, оскільки відсторонив їх Ієровоам і сини його від священства Господнього | For the Levites left the tents of their possession, and went to Juda to Jerusalem, because Jeroboam and his sons had ejected them so that they should not minister to the Lord. |

| і поставив у себе жерців на висотах, і до козлів, і до тельців, яких він зробив. | And he made for himself priests of the high places, and for the idols, and for the vanities, and for the calves which Jeroboam made. |

| А за ними і з усіх колін Ізраїлевих ті, що схилили серце своє, щоб шукати Господа Бога Ізраїлевого, приходили в Єрусалим, щоб приносити жертви Господу Богу батьків своїх. | And he cast out from the tribes of Israel those who set their heart to seek the Lord God of Israel: and they came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice to the Lord God of their fathers. |

| І зміцнили вони царство Іудине і підтримували Ровоама, сина Соломонового, три роки, тому що ходили путями Давида і Соломона у ці три роки. | And they strengthened the kingdom of Juda; and Juda strengthened Roboam the son of Solomon for three years, for he walked three years in the ways of David and Solomon. |

| І взяв собі Ровоам за дружину Махалафу, дочку Ієромофа, сина Давидового, й Авихаїль, дочку Елиава, сина Ієссеєвого, | And Roboam took to himself for a wife Moolath daughter of Jerimuth the son of David, and Abigaia daughter of Heliab the son of Jessæ. |

| і вона народила йому синів: Ієуса і Шемарію і Загаму. | And she bore him sons; Jeus, and Samoria, and Zaam. |

| Після неї він узяв Мааху, дочку Авессалома, і вона народила йому Авию й Аттая, і Зизу і Шеломифа. | And afterwards he took to himself Maacha the daughter of Abessalom; and she bore him Abia, and Jetthi, and Zeza, and Salemoth. |

| І любив Ровоам Мааху, дочку Авессалома, більше за усіх дружин і наложниць своїх, бо він мав вісімнадцять дружин і шістдесят наложниць і породив двадцять вісім синів і шістдесят дочок. | And Roboam loved Maacha the daughter of Abessalom more than all his wives and all his concubines: for he had eighteen wives and sixty concubines; and he begot twenty-eight sons, and sixty daughters. |

| І поставив Ровоам Авию, сина Маахи, главою [і] князем над братами його, тому що хотів поставити його царем. | And he made Abia the son of Maacha chief, even a leader among his brethren, for he intended to make him king. |
|

|
| І діяв благорозсудливо, і розіслав усіх синів своїх по всіх землях Іуди і Веніаміна в усі укріплені міста, і дав їм утримання велике і знайшов багато дружин. | And he was exalted beyond all his other sons in all the coasts of Juda and Benjamin, and in the strong cities; and he gave them provisions in great abundance: and he desired many wives. |
