| Коли Господь Бог твій знищить народи, землю яких дає тобі Господь Бог твій і ти вступиш у спадщину після них, і оселишся в містах їх і домах їх, | And when the Lord thy God shall have destroyed the nations, which God gives thee, even the land, and ye shall inherit them, and dwell in their cities, and in their houses, |

| тоді відокрем собі три міста серед землі твоєї, яку Господь Бог твій дає тобі у володіння; | thou shalt separate for thyself three cities in the midst of thy land, which the Lord thy God gives thee. |

|
| влаштуй собі дорогу і розділи на три частини всю землю твою, яку Господь Бог твій дає тобі в наділ; вони будуть служити притулком всякому вбивці. | Take a survey of thy way, and thou shalt divide the coasts of thy land, which the Lord thy God apportions to thee, into three parts, and there shall be there a refuge for every manslayer. |

| І ось який убивця може тікати туди і залишитися живим: хто уб’є ближнього свого без наміру, не бувши ворогом йому вчора і третього дня; | And this shall be the ordinance of the manslayer, who shall flee thither, and shall live, whosoever shall have smitten his neighbour ignorantly, whereas he hated him not in times past. |

| хто піде з ближнім своїм у ліс рубати дрова, і розмахнеться рука його із сокирою, щоб зрубати дерево, і зіскочить залізо із сокирища і попаде у ближнього, і він помре, — такий нехай утече в одне із міст тих, щоб залишитися живим, | And whosoever shall enter with his neighbour into the thicket, to gather wood, if the hand of him that cuts wood with the axe should be violently shaken, and the axe head falling off from the handle should light on his neighbour, and he should die, he shall flee to one of these cities, and live. |

| щоб месник за кров у гарячковості серця свого не погнався за вбивцею і не наздогнав його, якщо далекою буде дорога, і не вбив його, в той час як він не підлягає засудженню на смерть, бо не був ворогом йому вчора і третього дня; | Lest the avenger of blood pursue after the slayer, because his heart is hot, and overtake him, if the way be too long, and slay him, though there is to this man no sentence of death, because he hated him not in time past. |

| тому я і дав тобі повеління, говорячи: відокрем собі три міста. | Therefore I charge thee, saying, Thou shalt separate for thyself three cities. |

| Коли ж Господь Бог твій розширить межі твої, як Він клявся батькам твоїм, і дасть тобі всю землю, яку Він обіцяв дати батькам твоїм, | And if the Lord shall enlarge thy borders, as he sware to thy fathers, and the Lord shall give to thee all the land which he said he would give to thy fathers; |

| якщо ти будеш намагатися виконувати всі ці заповіді, які я заповідаю тобі сьогодні, любити Господа Бога твого і ходити путями Його в усі дні, — тоді до цих трьох міст додай ще три міста, | if thou shalt hearken to do all these commands, which I charge thee this day, to love the Lord thy God, to walk in all his ways continually; thou shalt add for thyself yet three cities to these three. |

| щоб не проливалася кров невинного серед землі твоєї, яку Господь Бог твій дає тобі в наділ, і щоб не було на тобі [провини] крови. | So innocent blood shall not be spilt in the land, which the Lord thy God gives thee to inherit, and there shall not be in thee one guilty of blood. |

| Але якщо хто [в тебе] буде ворогом ближньому своєму і буде підстерігати його, і повстане на нього й уб’є його до смерти, і втече в одне з міст тих, | But if there should be in thee a man hating his neighbour, and he should lay wait for him, and rise up against him, and smite him, that he die, and he should flee to one of these cities, |

| то старійшини міста його повинні послати, щоб узяти його звідти і віддати його в руки месника за кров, щоб він помер; | then shall the elders of his city send, and take him thence, and they shall deliver him into the hands of the avengers of blood, and he shall die. |
|

| нехай не щадить його око твоє; змий з Ізраїля кров невинного, і буде тобі добре. | Thine eye shall not spare him; so shalt thou purge innocent blood from Israel, and it shall be well with thee. |
|

|
| Не порушуй межі ближнього твого, яку поклали предки в наділі твоєму, що дістався тобі на землі, яку Господь Бог твій дає тобі у володіння. | Thou shalt not move the landmarks of thy neighbour, which thy fathers set in the inheritance, in which thou hast obtained a share in the land, which the Lord thy God gives thee to inherit. |

| Недостатньо одного свідка проти кого-небудь у якій-небудь провині й у якому-небудь злочині й у якому-небудь гріху, яким він згрішить: за словами двох свідків, або за словами трьох свідків відбудеться [усяка] справа. | One witness shall not stand to testify against a man for any iniquity, or for any fault, or for any sin which he may commit; by the mouth of two witnesses, or by the mouth of three witnesses, shall every word be established. |

| Якщо виступить проти кого свідок несправедливий, звинувачуючи його в злочині, | And if an unjust witness rise up against a man, alleging iniquity against him; |
|

|
| то нехай стануть обидва ці чоловіки, у яких тяжба, перед Господом, перед священиками і перед суддями, які будуть у ті дні; | then shall the two men between whom the controversy is, stand before the Lord, and before the priests, and before the judges, who may be in those days. |
|

|
| судді повинні добре дослідити, і якщо свідок той свідок неправдивий, неправдиво доніс на брата свого, | And the judges shall make diligent inquiry, and, behold, if an unjust witness has borne unjust testimony; and has stood up against his brother; |
|

|
19
|
| то зробіть йому те, що він замислив зробити братові своєму; і так знищи зло із середовища свого; | then shall ye do to him as he wickedly devised to do against his brother, and thou shalt remove the evil from yourselves. |
|

|
20
|
| й інші почують, і убояться, і не стануть надалі чинити таке зло серед тебе; | And the rest shall hear and fear, and do no more according to this evil thing in the midst of you. |
|
21
|
21
|
| нехай не пощадить [його] око твоє: душу за душу, око за око, зуб за зуб, руку за руку, ногу за ногу. [Яку хто зробить шкоду ближньому своєму, так слід відплатити йому.] | Thine eye shall not spare him: thou shalt exact life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot. |
