| І прийшли сини Ізраїлеві, уся громада, в пустелю Син у перший місяць, і зупинився народ в Кадесі, і померла там Маріам і похована там. | And the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, came into the wilderness of Sin, in the first month, and the people abode in Cades; and Mariam died there, and was buried there. |

| І не було води для громади, і зібралися вони проти Мойсея й Аарона; | And there was no water for the congregation: and they gathered themselves together against Moses and Aaron. |

| і нарікав народ на Мойсея і сказав: о, якби і ми померли тоді, коли померли брати наші перед Господом! | And the people reviled Moses, saying, Would we had died in the destruction of our brethren before the Lord! |
|

|
| навіщо ви привели громаду Господню в цю пустелю, щоб померти тут нам і худобі нашій? | And wherefore have ye brought up the congregation of the Lord into this wilderness, to kill us and our cattle? |
|

|
| і для чого вивели ви нас з Єгипту, щоб привести нас на це негідне місце, де не можна сіяти, немає ні смоковниць, ні винограду, ні гранатових яблук, ні навіть води для пиття? | And wherefore is this? Ye have brought us up out of Egypt, that we should come into this evil place; a place where there is no sowing, neither figs, nor vines, nor pomegranates, neither is there water to drink. |

| І пішов Мойсей і Аарон від народу до входу в скинію зібрання, і впали на лиця свої, і явилася їм слава Господня. | And Moses and Aaron went from before the assembly to the door of the tabernacle of witness, and they fell upon their faces; and the glory of the Lord appeared to them. |

| І сказав Господь Мойсеєві, говорячи: | And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, |

|
| візьми жезл і збери громаду, ти й Аарон, брат твій, і скажіть на очах їхніх скелі, і вона дасть із себе воду: і так ти виточиш їм воду зі скелі, і напоїш громаду і худобу її. | Take thy rod, and call the assembly, thou and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye to the rock before them, and it shall give forth its waters; and ye shall bring forth for them water out of the rock, and give drink to the congregation and their cattle. |

| І взяв Мойсей жезл від лиця Господа, як Він повелів йому. | And Moses took his rod which was before the Lord, as the Lord commanded. |

| І зібрали Мойсей і Аарон народ до скелі, і сказав він їм: послухайте, непокірливі, хіба що нам з цієї скелі виточити для вас воду? | And Moses and Aaron assembled the congregation before the rock, and said to them, Hear me, ye disobedient ones; must we bring you water out of this rock? |

| І підняв Мойсей руку свою і вдарив у скелю жезлом своїм двічі, і потекло багато води, і пила громада і худоба її. | And Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock with his rod twice; and much water came forth, and the congregation drank, and their cattle. |

| І сказав Господь Мойсеєві й Аарону: за те, що ви не повірили Мені, щоб виявити святість Мою перед очима синів Ізраїлевих, не введете ви народ цей у землю, яку Я даю йому. | And the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, Because ye have not believed me to sanctify me before the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them. |

| Це вода Мериви, біля якої ввійшли в суперечку сини Ізраїлеві з Господом, і Він явив їм святість Свою. | This is the water of Strife, because the children of Israel spoke insolently before the Lord, and he was sanctified in them. |
|

| І послав Мойсей з Кадеса послів до царя Едомського [сказати]: так говорить брат твій Ізраїль: ти знаєш усі труднощі, що осягли нас; | And Moses sent messengers from Cades to the king of Edom, saying, Thus says thy brother Israel; Thou knowest all the distress that has come upon us. |

| батьки наші перейшли в Єгипет, і ми жили в Єгипті багато часу, і зле чинили єгиптяни з нами і батьками нашими; | And how our fathers went down into Egypt, and we sojourned in Egypt many days, and the Egyptians afflicted us and our fathers. |
|

| і воззвали ми до Господа, і почув Він голос наш, і послав ангела, і вивів нас з Єгипту; і ось, ми в Кадесі, місті біля самої межі твоєї; | And we cried to the Lord, and the Lord heard our voice, and sent an angel and brought us out of Egypt; and now we are in the city of Cades, at the extremity of thy coasts. |

| дозволь нам пройти землею твоєю: ми не підемо по полях і по виноградниках і не будемо пити води з колодязів [твоїх]; але підемо дорогою царською, не звернемо ні праворуч ні ліворуч, доки не перейдемо кордони твої. | We will pass through thy land: we will not go through the fields, nor through the vineyards, nor will we drink water out of thy cistern: we will go by the king's highway; we will not turn aside to the right hand or to the left, until we have passed thy borders. |

| Але Едом сказав йому: не проходь через мене, інакше я з мечем виступлю проти тебе. | And Edom said to him, Thou shalt not pass through me, and if otherwise, I will go forth to meet thee in war. |
|

| І сказали йому сини Ізраїлеві: ми підемо великою дорогою, і якщо будемо пити твою воду, я і худоба моя, то буду платити за неї; тільки ногами моїми пройду, що нічого не коштує. | And the children of Israel say to him, We will pass by the mountain; and if I and my cattle drink of thy water, I will pay thee: but it is no matter of importance, we will go by the mountain. |

| Але він сказав: не проходь [через мене]. І виступив проти нього Едом з численним народом і з сильною рукою. | And he said, Thou shalt not pass through me; and Edom went forth to meet him with a great host, and a mighty hand. |
|

| Отже, не погодився Едом дозволити Ізраїлю пройти через його край, і Ізраїль пішов убік від нього. | So Edom refused to allow Israel to pass through his borders, and Israel turned away from him. |
|

| І рушили сини Ізраїлеві з Кадеса, і прийшла вся громада до гори Ор. | And they departed from Cades; and the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, came to Mount Or. |
|

| І сказав Господь Мойсеєві та Аарону на горі Ор, біля кордону землі Едомської, говорячи: | And the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron in mount Or, on the borders of the land of Edom, saying, |
|

|
| нехай прилучиться Аарон до народу свого; бо він не ввійде в землю, яку Я даю синам Ізраїлевим, за те, що ви непокірними були велінню Моєму біля вод Мериви; | Let Aaron be added to his people; for ye shall certainly not go into the land which I have given the children of Israel, because ye provoked me at the water of strife. |

| і візьми Аарона [брата твого] і Єлеазара, сина його, і зведи їх на гору Ор [перед усією громадою]; | Take Aaron, and Eleazar his son, and bring them up to the mount Or before all the congregation; |
|

| і зніми з Аарона одяг його, і зодягни в нього Єлеазара, сина його, і нехай Аарон відійде і помре там. | and take Aaron's apparel from off him, and put it on Eleazar his son: and let Aaron die there and be added to his people. |
|

| І зробив Мойсей так, як повелів Господь. Пішли вони на гору Ор на очах усієї громади, | And Moses did as the Lord commanded him, and took him up to mount Or, before all the congregation. |
|

|
| і зняв Мойсей з Аарона одяг його, і зодягнув у нього Єлеазара, сина його; і вмер там Аарон на вершині гори. А Мойсей і Єлеазар зійшли з гори. | And he took Aaron's garments off him, and put them on Eleazar his son, and Aaron died on the top of the mountain; and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain. |

| І побачила вся громада, що Аарон умер, і оплакував Аарона весь дім Ізраїлів тридцять днів. | And all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead: and they wept for Aaron thirty days, even all the house of Israel. |
