| Зійди і сядь на порох, дівчино, дочко Вавилона; сиди на землі: престолу немає, дочко халдеїв, і надалі не будуть називати тебе ніжною і розкішною. | Come down, sit on the ground, O virgin daughter of Babylon: sit on the ground, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called tender and luxurious. |

| Візьми жорна і мели борошно; зніми покривало твоє, підбери поділ, відкрий гомілки, переходь через ріки: | Take a millstone, grind meal: remove thy veil, uncover thy white hairs, make bare the leg, pass through the rivers. |

| відкриється нагота твоя, і навіть видний буде сором твій. Звершу помсту і не пощаджу нікого. | Thy shame shall be uncovered, thy reproaches shall be brought to light: I will exact of thee due vengeance, I will no longer deliver thee to men. |

| Відкупитель ваш — Господь Саваоф ім’я Йому, Святий Ізраїлів. | Thy deliverer is the Lord of hosts, the Holy One of Israel is his name. |

| Сиди мовчки і піди у темряву, дочко халдеїв: бо надалі не будуть називати тебе господинею царств. | Sit thou down pierced with woe, go into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans: thou shalt no more be called the strength of a kingdom. |

| Я прогнівався на народ Мій, принизив спадщину Мою і віддав їх у руки твої; а ти не виявила їм милосердя, на старця накладала украй тяжке ярмо твоє. | I have been provoked with my people; thou hast defiled mine inheritance: I gave them into thy hand, but thou didst not extend mercy to them: thou madest the yoke of the aged man very heavy, |

| І ти говорила: «вічно буду господинею», а не уявляла того у розумі твоєму, не думала, що буде опісля. | and saidst, I shall be a princess for ever: thou didst not perceive these things in thine heart, nor didst thou remember the latter end. |

| Але нині вислухай це, зніжена, що живеш безтурботно, говориш у серці своєму: «я, — й іншої подібної до мене немає; не буду сидіти вдовою і не буду знати втрати дітей». | But now hear these words, thou luxurious one, who art the one that sits at ease, that is secure, that says in her heart, I am, and there is not another; I shall not sit a widow, neither shall I know bereavement. |

| Але раптово, в один день, прийде до тебе те й інше, втрата дітей і вдівство; повною мірою прийдуть вони на тебе, незважаючи на безліч чародійств твоїх і на велику силу чаклувань твоїх. | But now these two things shall come upon thee suddenly in one day, the loss of children and widowhood shall come suddenly upon thee, for thy sorcery, for the strength of thine enchantments, |

| Бо ти сподівалася на лиходійство твоє, говорила: «ніхто не бачить мене». Мудрість твоя і знання твоє — вони збили тебе з путі; і ти говорила у серці твоєму: «я, і ніхто, крім мене». | for thy trusting in wickedness: for thou saidst, I am, and there is not another: know thou, the understanding of these things and thy harlotry shall be thy shame; for thou saidst in thy heart, I am, and there is not another. |

| І прийде на тебе біда: ти не дізнаєшся, звідки вона підніметься; і нападе на тебе біда, якої ти не в силах будеш відвернути, і раптово прийде на тебе згуба, про яку ти і не думаєш. | And destruction shall come upon thee, and thou shalt not be aware; there shall be a pit, and thou shalt fall into it: and grief shall come upon thee, and thou shalt not be able to be clear; and destruction shall come suddenly upon thee, and thou shalt not know. |

| Залишайся ж зі своїми чаклуваннями і з безліччю чародійств твоїх, якими ти займалася від юности твоєї: можливо, допоможеш собі, можливо, встоїш. | Stand now with thine enchantments, and with the abundance of thy sorcery, which thou hast learned from thy youth; if thou canst be profited. |

| Ти стомлена безліччю порад твоїх; нехай же виступлять спостерігачі небес і звіздарі й віщуни по новомісяччях, і спасуть тебе від того, що повинно статися з тобою. | Thou art wearied in thy counsels. Let now the astrologers of the heaven stand and deliver thee, let them that see the stars tell thee what is about to come upon thee. |

| Ось вони, як солома: вогонь спалив їх, — не визволили душі своєї від полум’я; не залишилося ні вугілля, щоб погрітися, ні вогню, щоб посидіти біля нього. | Behold, they all shall be burnt up as sticks in the fire; neither shall they at all deliver their life from the flame. Because thou hast coals of fire, sit thou upon them; |

| Такими стали для тебе ті, з якими ти трудилася, з якими вела торгівлю від юности твоєї. Кожен побрів у свій бік; ніхто не рятує тебе. | these shall be thy help. Thou hast wearied thyself with traffic from thy youth: every man has wandered to his own home, but thou shalt have no deliverance. |
