| Слово, яке було до Єремії від Господа: | The word that came to Jeremias from the Lord, saying, |

| слухайте слова́ завіту цього і скажіть мужам Іуди і жителям Єрусалима; | Hear ye the words of this covenant, and thou shalt speak to the men of Juda, and to the dwellers in Jerusalem; |

|
| і скажи їм: так говорить Господь, Бог Ізраїлів: проклята людина, яка не послухає слів завіту цього, | and thou shalt say to them, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Cursed is the man, who shall not hearken to the words of this covenant, |

| який Я заповів батькам вашим, коли вивів їх із землі Єгипетської, із залізної печі, сказавши: «слухайтеся гласу Мого і робіть усе, що Я заповідаю вам, — і будете Моїм народом, і Я буду вашим Богом, | which I commanded your fathers, in the day wherein I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, out of the iron furnace, saying, Hearken to my voice, and do all things that I shall command you; so shall ye be to me a people, and I will be to you a God; |

| щоб виконати клятву, якою Я клявся батькам вашим, — дати їм землю, яка тече молоком і медом, як це нині». І відповів я, сказавши: амінь, Господи! | that I may confirm mine oath, which I sware to your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as it is this day. Then I answered and said, So be it, O Lord. |

| І сказав мені Господь: проголоси усі ці слова у містах Іуди і на вулицях Єрусалима і скажи: слухайте слова́ завіту цього і виконуйте їх. | And the Lord said to me, Read these words in the cities of Juda, and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying, Hear ye the words of this covenant, and do them. |

| Бо батьків ваших Я умовляв постійно з того дня, як вивів їх із землі Єгипетської, до цього дня; напоумлював їх з раннього ранку, говорячи: «слухайтеся гласу Мого». | |

| Але вони не слухалися і не прихиляли вуха свого, а ходили кожен за впертістю злого серця свого: тому Я навів на них усе сказане у завіті цьому, який Я заповів їм виконувати, а вони не виконували. | But they did them not. |
|

|
| І сказав мені Господь: є змова між мужами Іуди і жителями Єрусалима: | And the Lord said to me, A conspiracy is found among the men of Juda, and among the dwellers in Jerusalem. |
|

|
| вони знову повернулися до беззаконь праотців своїх, які зреклися слухатися слів Моїх і пішли слідом чужих богів, слугуючи їм. Дім Ізраїля і дім Іуди порушили завіт Мій, який Я уклав з батьками їх. | They are turned aside to the iniquities of their fathers that were of old, who would not hearken to my words: and, behold, they go after strange gods, to serve them: and the house of Israel and the house of Juda have broken my covenant, which I made with their fathers. |

| Тому так говорить Господь: ось, Я наведу на них біду, якої вони не можуть позбутися, і коли заволають до Мене, не почую їх. | Therefore thus saith the Lord, Behold, I bring evils upon this people, out of which they shall not be able to come forth; and they shall presently cry to me, but I will not hearken to them. |

| Тоді міста́ Іуди і жителі Єрусалима підуть і волатимуть до богів, яким вони кадять; але вони ніскільки не допоможуть їм під час біди їхньої. | And the cities of Juda and the dwellers in Jerusalem shall go, and cry to the gods to whom they burn incense; which shall not deliver them in the time of their troubles. |

| Бо скільки у тебе міст, стільки і богів у тебе, Іудо, і скільки вулиць в Єрусалимі, стільки ви наставили жертовників ганебному, жертовників для кадіння Ваалу. | For according to the number of thy cities were thy gods, O Juda; and according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem have ye set up altars to burn incense to Baal. |

| Ти ж не проси за цей народ і не піднось за них молитви і прохання; бо Я не почую, коли вони будуть волати до Мене у біді своїй. | And thou, pray not for this people, and intercede not for them in supplication and prayer: for I will not hear in the day in which they call upon me, in the day of their affliction. |

| Що улюбленому Моєму в домі Моєму, коли в ньому звершується безліч непотребств? і священні м’яса* не допоможуть тобі, коли, роблячи зло, ти радієш. | Why has my beloved wrought abomination in my house? will prayers and holy offerings take away thy wickedness from thee, or shalt thou escape by these things? |

| Зеленою маслиною, що красується приємними плодами, найменував тебе Господь. А нині, при шумі сильного сум’яття, Він запалив вогонь навколо неї, і скрушилися гілки її. | The Lord called thy name a fair olive tree, of a goodly shade in appearance, at the noise of its being lopped, fire was kindled against it; great is the affliction coming upon thee: her branches are become good for nothing. |

| Господь Саваоф, Який насадив тебе, вирік на тебе зле за зло дому Ізраїлевого і дому Іудиного, яке вони заподіяли собі тим, що викликали у Мені гнів кадінням Ваалу. | And the Lord that planted thee has pronounced evils against thee, because of the iniquity of the house of Israel and the house of Juda, whatsoever they have done against themselves to provoke me to anger by burning incense to Baal. |

| Господь відкрив мені, і я знаю; Ти показав мені діяння їх. | O Lord, teach me, and I shall know: then I saw their practices. |

|
| А я, як лагідний агнець, якого ведуть на заколення, і не знав, що вони складають задуми проти мене, говорячи: «покладемо отруйне дерево в їжу його й відірвемо його від землі живих, щоб і ім’я його більше не згадувалося». | But I as an innocent lamb led to the slaughter, knew not: against me they devised an evil device, saying, Come and let us put wood into his bread, and let us utterly destroy him from off the land of the living, and let his name not be remembered any more. |

| Але, Господи Саваофе, Судде праведний, Який випробовує серця й утроби! дай побачити мені помсту Твою над ними, бо Тобі довірив я діло моє. | O Lord, that judgest righteously, trying the reins and hearts, let me see thy vengeance taken upon them, for to thee I have declared my cause. |

| Тому так говорить Господь про мужів Анафофа, які шукають душі твоєї і говорять: «не пророкуй в ім’я Господа, щоб не померти тобі від рук наших»; | Therefore thus saith the Lord concerning the men of Anathoth, that seek my life, that say, Thou shalt not prophesy at all in the name of the Lord, but if thou dost, thou shalt die by our hands: |

| тому так говорить Господь Саваоф: ось, Я відвідаю їх: юнаки їхні помруть від меча; сини їхні і дочки їхні помруть від голоду. | behold, I will visit them: their young men shall die by the sword; and their sons and their daughters shall die of famine: |

| І залишку не буде від них; тому що Я наведу біду на мужів Анафофа у рік відвідування їх. | and there shall be no remnant left of them; for I will bring evil upon the dwellers in Anathoth, in the year of their visitation. |
