Глава 4	Chapter 4

Що ж, скажемо, Авраам, отець наш, здобув через плоть?	What then shall we say that Abraham, our father, hath found according to the flesh?

Якщо Авраам виправдався ділами, він має похвалу, але не у Бога.	For if Abraham was justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not toward God.

Бо що говорить Писання? Повірив Авраам Боговi‚ і це зараховано йому в праведність.	For what saith the scripture? And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned unto him for righteousness.

Hагорода тому, хто робить, дається не з ласки, а за обов’язком.	Now to him that worketh, the reward is not reckoned as of grace, but as of debt.

А тому, хто не робить, але вірує в Того, Хто виправдовує нечестивого, віра його зараховується в праведність.	But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is reckoned for righteousness.

Так само і Давид називає блаженним чоловіка, якому Бог зараховує праведність незалежно від діл:	Even as David also pronounceth blessing upon the man, unto whom God reckoneth righteousness apart from works,

«Блаженні ті, чиї беззаконня прощені і чиї гріхи відпущені.	saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, And whose sins are covered.

Блаженна людина, якій Господь не зарахує гріха».	Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not reckon sin.

Блаженство це належить до обрізання чи до необрізання? Ми говоримо, що Авраамові віра зарахована в праведність.	Is this blessing then pronounced upon the circumcision, or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness.

Коли зарахована? Після обрізання чи до обрізання? Hе після обрізання, а до обрізання.	How then was it reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision:

І знак обрізання він одержав як печать праведности через віру, яку мав під час необрізання, щоб стати отцем усіх віруючих у необрізанні, щоб і їм була зарахована праведність‚	and he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while he was in uncircumcision: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be in uncircumcision, that righteousness might be reckoned unto them also;

і отцем обрізаних, що не тільки прийняли обрізання‚ але і ходять по слідах віри отця нашого Авраама, яку він мав ще в необрізання.	and the father of circumcision to them who not only are of the circumcision, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham which he had in uncircumcision.

Бо не законом була дарована Авраамовi‚ чи нащадкам його‚ обітниця — бути спадкоємцем світу, але праведністю віри.	For not through the law was the promise to Abraham or to his seed that he should be heir of the world, but through the righteousness of faith.

Коли спадкоємцями є ті, що стверджуються законом, то даремна віра, обітниця недіюча;	For if they that are of the law are heirs, faith is made void, and the promise is made of none effect:
15	15
бо закон викликає гнів, тому що, де нема закону, нема і злочину.	for the law worketh wrath; for where there is no law, neither is there transgression.

Отже, по вірі, щоб було з ласки, щоб обітниця була непорушна для всіх, не тільки за законом, а й за вірою нащадків Авраама, який є отцем усім нам,	For this cause it is of faith, that it may be according to grace; to the end that the promise may be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all

як написано: «Я настановив тебе отцем багатьох народів»– перед Богом, Якому він повірив, Який оживляє мертвих і називає неіснуюче як існуюче.	(as it is written, A father of many nations have I made thee) before him whom he believed, even God, who giveth life to the dead, and calleth the things that are not, as though they were.

Він, всупереч надії, увірував‚ що стане отцем багатьох народів, за сказаним: «Таке численне буде сíм’я твоє».	Who in hope believed against hope, to the end that he might become a father of many nations, according to that which had been spoken, So shall thy seed be.

І не знеміг у вірі, і не вважав свого тіла, майже сторічного, за вже змертвіле, і утроби Сариної за омертвілу;	And without being weakened in faith he considered not his own body now as good as dead (he being about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb;

не засумнівався в обітниці Божій невірою, але зміцнився у вірі, віддавши славу Боговi‚	yet, looking unto the promise of God, he wavered not through unbelief, but waxed strong through faith, giving glory to God,
21	21
і був цілком упевнений, що Він має силу і виконати обіцяне.	and being fully assured that what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
22	22
Тому і зараховано йому у праведність.	Wherefore also it was reckoned unto him for righteousness.

Та не про нього одного написано, що зараховано йому,	Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was reckoned unto him;
24	24
але й стосовно нас; буде зараховано і нам, віруючим у Того, Хто воскресив із мертвих Ісуса Христа, Господа нашого,	but for our sake also, unto whom it shall be reckoned, who believe on him that raised Jesus our Lord from the dead,
25	25
Який був виданий за гріхи наші і воскрес для виправдання нашого.	who was delivered up for our trespasses, and was raised for our justification.
