Глава 11	Chapter 11

1	1
Віра ж є здійснення очікуваного і впевненість у невидимому.	Now faith is assurance of things hoped for, a conviction of things not seen.

Через неї були засвідчені древні.	For therein the elders had witness borne to them.

Вірою пізнаємо, що віки створені Словом Божим, так що з невидимого сталося видиме‚	By faith we understand that the worlds have been framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen have not been made out of things which appear.

вірою Авель приніс Богові жертву кращу, ніж Каїн, нею дістав свідчення, що він праведний, як засвідчив Бог про дари його; нею він і після смерти ще говорить.	By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he had witness borne to him that he was righteous, God bearing witness in respect of his gifts: and through it he being dead yet speaketh.

Вірою Енох переселений був так, що не бачив смерти; і не стало його, тому що Бог переселив його. Бо ще до свого переселення він мав свідчення, що догодив Богу.	By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and he was not found, because God translated him: for he hath had witness borne to him that before his translation he had been well-pleasing unto God:

А без віри догодити Богові неможливо, бо треба, щоб той, хто приходить до Бога, вірував, що Він є, і тим, хто шукає Його, дає винагороду.	and without faith it is impossible to be well-pleasing unto him; for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that seek after him.

Вірою Hой, діставши одкровення про те, що було ще невидиме, побожно приготував ковчег для врятування свого дому; нею осудив він увесь світ і зробився спадкоємцем праведности через віру.	By faith Noah, being warned of God concerning things not seen as yet, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; through which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.

Вірою Авраам скорився поклику йти в країну, яку мав одержати у спадок, і пішов, не знаючи, куди йде.	By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed to go out unto the place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.

Вірою жив він на землі обітованій, як на чужій, і жив у наметах з Ісааком та Яковом, співспадкоємцями тієї ж обітницi;	By faith he became a sojourner in the land of promise, as in a land not his own, dwelling in tents, with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:

бо він чекав міста, що має основу, художником і будівничим якого є Бог.	for he looked for the city which hath the foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

Вірою і сама Сарра‚ неплідна‚ одержала силу прийняти сім’я і, незважаючи на вік, народила, бо знала, що вірний Той, Хто обіцяв.	By faith even Sarah herself received power to conceive seed, and she bare a child when she was past age, since she counted him faithful who had promised:

І тому від одного, і до того ж омертвілого, народилось так багато, як багато зірок на небі і як незліченний пісок на морському березі.	wherefore also there sprang of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of heaven in multitude, and as the sand, which is by the seashore, innumerable.

Усі ці померли у вірі, не одержавши обітниць, а тільки здалеку бачили їх і раділи та говорили про себе, що вони подорожні й пришельці на землi;	These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them and greeted them from afar, and having confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

бо ті, які говорять так, показують, що вони шукають батьківщини.	For they that say such things make it manifest that they are seeking after a country of their own.
15	15
І коли б вони в думках мали ту батьківщину, з якої вийшли, то мали б час повернутися;	And if indeed they had been mindful of that country from which they went out, they would have had opportunity to return.
16	16
але вони прагнули кращого, тобто небесного; тому і Бог не соромиться їх, називаючи Себе їхнім Богом; бо Він приготував їм місто.	But now they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God; for he hath prepared for them a city.

Вірою Авраам, будучи випробуваним, приніс у жертву Ісаака, і, маючи обітницю, приніс єдинородного,	By faith Abraham, being tried, offered up Isaac: yea, he that had gladly received the promises was offering up his only begotten son;
18	18
про якого було сказано: «В Ісаакові назветься тобі сíм’я».	even he to whom it was said, In Isaac shall thy seed be called:

Бо він думав, що Бог має силу і з мертвих воскресити, тому і одержав його як передвістя.	accounting that God is able to raise up, even from the dead; from whence he did also in a figure receive him back.

Вірою в майбутнє Ісаак поблагословив Якова та Ісава.	By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come.
21	21
Вірою Яків, помираючи, поблагословив кожного сина Йосифового і поклонився на верх жезла свого.	By faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph; and worshiped, leaning upon the top of his staff.

Вірою Йосиф, при кончині, нагадував про вихід синів Ізраїлевих і про кістки свої заповідав.	By faith Joseph, when his end was nigh, made mention of the departure of the children of Israel; and gave commandment concerning his bones.

Вірою по народженні Мойсея батьки ховали його три місяці, бо вони бачили, що дитина дуже гарна, і не злякалися царського повеління.	By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden three months by his parents, because they saw he was a goodly child; and they were not afraid of the king’s commandment.

Вірою Мойсей, досягнувши віку, відмовився називатися сином дочки фараонової	By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter;

і захотів краще страждати з народом Божим, ніж мати тимчасову гріховну насолоду,	choosing rather to share ill treatment with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;

і ганьбу Христову вважав більшим для себе багатством, ніж єгипетські скарби; бо він дивився на нагороду.	accounting the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt: for he looked unto the recompense of reward.

Вірою залишив він Єгипет, не побоявшись царського гніву, бо він, мовби бачачи Hевидимого, був твердий.	By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.

Вірою він справив Пасху та пролиття крови, щоб винищувач первістків не торкнувся їх.	By faith he kept the passover, and the sprinkling of the blood, that the destroyer of the firstborn should not touch them.

Вірою перейшли вони Червоне море, як по суші, на що спокусившись, єгиптяни потопилися.	By faith they passed through the Red Sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were swallowed up.

Вірою впали єрихонські стіни після семиденного обходження.	By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they had been compassed about for seven days.

Вірою Раав‚ блудниця, з миром прийнявши підглядячів (та повівши їх іншою дорогою), не загинула з невірними.	By faith Rahab the harlot perished not with them that were disobedient, having received the spies with peace.

І що ще скажу? Hе вистачить мені часу, щоб розповісти про Гедеона, про Варака, про Самсона та Ієффая, про Давида, Самуїла та (інших) пророків,	And what shall I more say? for the time will fail me if I tell of Gideon, Barak also, and Samson, and Jephthah; of David and Samuel and the prophets:

які вірою перемагали царства, творили правду, одержували обітниці, затуляли пащі левів,	who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,

гасили силу вогню і уникали вістря меча, зміцнювалися від немочі, були сильні на війні, проганяли полки чужинців;	quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, from weakness were made strong, waxed mighty in war, turned to flight armies of aliens.

жінки одержували померлих своїх воскреслими; інші ж замучені були, не прийнявши визволення, щоб одержати краще — воскресіння;	Women received their dead by a resurrection: and others were tortured, not accepting their deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:

інші зазнали наруги та ран, а також кайданів і в’язниць,	and others had trial of mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:

були побиті камінням, перепилювані, зазнавали катування, помирали від меча, тинялися в овечих і козячих шкурах, терплячи нестатки, скорботи, озлоблення;	they were stoned, they were sawn asunder, they were tempted, they were slain with the sword: they went about in sheepskins, in goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, ill-treated

ті, яких увесь світ не був достойний, блукали по пустелях і горах, по печерах та ущелинах землі.	(of whom the world was not worthy), wandering in deserts and mountains and caves, and the holes of the earth.

І всі ці, засвідчені у вірі, не одержали обіцяного,	And these all, having had witness borne to them through their faith, received not the promise,
40	40
тому що Бог передбачив про нас щось краще, щоб вони не без нас досягли досконалости.	God having provided some better thing concerning us, that apart from us they should not be made perfect.
