| Филистимляни воювали з Ізраїлем, і побігли ізраїльтяни від филистимлян, і падали уражені на горі Гелвуї. | Now the Philistines warred against Israel; and they fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gelbue. |

| І погналися филистимляни за Саулом і синами його, й убили филистимляни Іонафана й Авинадава і Мелхисуя, синів Саулових. | And the Philistines pursued after Saul, and after his sons; and the Philistines smote Jonathan, and Aminadab, and Melchisue, sons of Saul. |

| Битва проти Саула посилилася, і стрільці кинулися на нього, так що він зранений був стрільцями. | And the battle prevailed against Saul, and the archers hit him with bows and arrows, and they were wounded of the bows. |

| І сказав Саул зброєносцеві своєму: вийми меч твій і заколи мене ним, щоб не прийшли ці необрізані і не наглумилися з мене. Але зброєносець не наважився, тому що дуже злякався. Тоді Саул узяв меч і упав на нього. | And Saul said to his armour-bearer, Draw thy sword, and pierce me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and mock me. But his armour-bearer would not, for he was greatly afraid: so Saul took a sword, and fell upon it. |

| Зброєносець його, побачивши, що Саул помер, і сам упав на меч і помер. | And his armour-bearer saw that Saul was dead, and he also fell upon his sword. |

| І вмер Саул, і три сини його, і весь дім його разом з ним помер. | So Saul died, and his three sons on that day, and all his family died at the same time. |

| Коли побачили ізраїльтяни, які були в долині, що усі біжать і що Саул і сини його померли, то залишили міста свої і розбіглися; а филистимляни прийшли й оселилися в них. | And all the men of Israel that were in the valley saw that Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, and they left their cities, and fled: and the Philistines came and dwelt in them. |

| На другий день прийшли филистимляни оббирати вбитих, і знайшли Саула і синів його, які впали на горі Гелвуйській, | And it came to pass on the next day that the Philistines came to strip the slain, and they found Saul and his sons fallen on mount Gelbue. |

| і роздягли його, і зняли з нього голову його і зброю його, і послали по землі Филистимській, щоб сповістити про це перед ідолами їхніми і перед народом. | And they stripped him, and took his head, and his armour, and sent them into the land of the Philistines round about, to proclaim the glad tidings to their idols, and to the people. |

| І поклали зброю його в капищі богів своїх, і голову його встромили в домі Дагона. | And they put their armour in the house of their god, and they put his head in the house of Dagon. |

| І почув весь Іавис галаадський усе, що зробили филистимляни із Саулом. | And all the dwellers in Galaad heard of all that the Philistines had done to Saul and to Israel. |
|

| І піднялися всі люди сильні, взяли тіло Саулове і тіла синів його, і принесли їх в Іавис, і поховали кістки їхні під дубом в Іависі, і постилися сім днів. | And all the mighty men rose up from Galaad, and they took the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabis, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabis, and fasted seven days. |

| Так помер Саул за своє беззаконня, яке він учинив перед Господом, за те, що не дотримався слова Господнього і звернувся до чарівниці з запитанням, | So Saul died for his transgressions, wherein he transgressed against God, against the word of the Lord, forasmuch as he kept it not, because Saul enquired of a wizard to seek counsel, and Samuel the prophet answered him: |

| а не звертався до Господа. За те Він і умертвив його, і передав царство Давиду, синові Ієссеєвому. | and he sought not the Lord: so he slew him, and turned the kingdom to David the son of Jesse. |
