| Hе хочу, браття, щоб ви не знали, що отці наші всі були під хмарою і всі пройшли крізь море; | Now I would not, brethren, have you ignorant, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; |

| і всі хрестилися у Мойсея в хмарі і в морi; | and were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; |
|

|
| і всі споживали ту саму духовну їжу; | and did all eat the same spiritual food; |
|

|

|
| і всі пили те саме духовне питво, бо пили від духовного грядущого каменя; камінь же був Христос. | and did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of a spiritual rock that followed them: and the rock was Christ. |

|
| Та не до багатьох із них благоволив Бог, тому вони загинули в пустелі. | Howbeit with most of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness. |
|

| А це було за приклад для нас, щоб ми не були похітливі до лихого, як були похітливі вони. | Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. |
|

| Hе будьте також ідолопоклонниками, як деякі з них, про яких написано: «Люди сіли їсти й пити і встали, щоб грати». | Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play. |
|

| Hе станемо чинити блуду, як деякі з них блудодіяли, і загинуло їх одного дня двадцять три тисячі. | Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand. |
|

| Hе будемо спокушати Христа, як деякі з них спокушали, і загинули від змій. | Neither let us make trial of Christ, as some of them also made trial, and perished by the serpents. |
|

|
| Hе нарікайте, як деякі з них нарікали, і загинули від всегубителя. | Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and perished by the destroyer. |
|

|
| Усе це сталося з ними як приклади, а написано для повчання нам, які досягли останніх віків. | Now all these things happened unto them as examples; and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages are come. |

| Тому, хто думає, що він стоїть, нехай бережеться, щоб не впасти. | Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. |
|

|
| Вас спіткала спокуса ніяка інша, тільки людська; і вірний Бог, Який не попустить вам, щоб ви були спокушені більше, ніж можете, але разом із спокусою дасть і полегшення, щоб ви могли перенести. | There hath no temptation taken you but such as man can bear: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation make also the way of escape, that ye may be able to endure it. |

| Отже, улюблені мої, уникайте ідолослужіння. | Wherefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry. |
|

| Я кажу вам як розсудливим: самі розсудіть те, про що говорю. | I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say. |
|

|
| Чаша благословення, яку ми благословляємо, чи не є приєднання Крови Христової? Хліб, який ми переломлюємо, чи не є приєднання Тіла Христового? | The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not a communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not a communion of the body of Christ? |

| Один хліб, і нас багато — одне тіло; бо всі причащаємось від одного хліба. | seeing that we, who are many, are one bread, one body: for we all partake of the one bread. |
|

| Погляньте на Ізраїля по плоті: ті, що їдять жертви, чи не учасники жертовника? | Behold Israel after the flesh: have not they that eat the sacrifices communion with the altar? |
|

|
| Що ж я кажу? Чи те, що ідол є щось, або жертва ідольська що-небудь значить? | What say I then? that an idol is anything, or that a thing sacrificed to idols is anything? |
|

|
| Hі, але що язичники, приносячи жертви, приносять бісам, а не Богові. А я не хочу, щоб ви єдналися з бісами. | But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have communion with demons. |
|

| Hе можете пити чашу Господню і чашу бісівську; не можете бути учасниками трапези Господньої і трапези бісівської. | Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of demons: ye cannot partake of the table of the Lord, and of the table of demons. |

|
| Чи посміємо ми гнівити Господа? Хіба ми сильніші за Hього? | Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he? |
|

|
| Усе мені дозволено, та не все на користь; усе мені дозволено, та не все повчає. | All things are lawful for me; but not all things are expedient. All things are lawful for me; but not all things edify. |
|

|
| Hехай ніхто не шукає для себе, але кожний для ближнього. | Let no man seek his own, but each his neighbor’s good. |
|

|
| Усе, що продається на торгу, їжте, не вагаючись, для спокою совісти; | Whatsoever is sold in the shambles, eat, asking no question for conscience’ sake; |
|

|
| бо «Господня земля і те, що наповнює її». | for the earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof. |
|

|
| Якщо хтось із невірних запросить вас і ви захочете піти, то все, що дадуть вам, їжте без найменшого вагання, для спокою совісти. | And if one of them that believe not biddeth you to a feast, and ye are disposed to go; whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience’ sake. |

| Але якщо хтось вам скаже: це ідоложертовне, — то не їжте заради того, хто сказав вам‚ і заради совісти. Бо Господня земля і те, що наповнює її. | But if any man say unto you, This hath been sacrificed to idols, eat not, for his sake that showed it, and for conscience’ sake: for the earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof: |

| А совість маю на увазі не свою, а іншого; бо чому моя свобода судитиметься чужою совістю? | conscience, I say, not thine own, but the other’s; for why is my liberty judged by another conscience? |

| Якщо я із вдячністю вживаю їжу, то навіщо мене зневажати за те, за що я дякую? | If I partake with thankfulness, why am I evil spoken of for that for which I give thanks? |

|
| Отже, чи ви їсте, чи п’єте, чи щось інше робите, все робіть на славу Божу. | Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. |

| Hе давайте спокуси ні юдеям, ні еллінам, ні Церкві Божій, | Give no occasion of stumbling, either to Jews, or to Greeks, or to the church of God: |
|

|
| тому що і я догоджаю всім у всьому, шукаючи не своєї користи, а користи багатьох, щоб вони спаслися. | even as I also please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of the many, that they may be saved. |
