| У третій місяць після виходу синів Ізраїля з землі Єгипетської, у самий день нового молодого місяця, прийшли вони в пустелю Синайську. | And in the third month of the departure of the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt, on the same day, they came into the wilderness of Sina. |

| І рушили вони з Рефидима, і прийшли в пустелю Синайську, і розташувалися там станом у пустелі; і розташувався там Ізраїль станом навпроти гори. | And they departed from Raphidin, and came into the wilderness of Sina, and there Israel encamped before the mountain. |
|

| Мойсей зійшов до Бога [на гору], і воззвав до нього Господь з гори, говорячи: так скажи дому Якова і звісти синів Ізраїлевих: | And Moses went up to the mount of God, and God called him out of the mountain, saying, These things shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and thou shalt report them to the children of Israel. |

| ви бачили, що Я зробив єгиптянам, і як Я носив вас [ніби] на орлиних крилах, і приніс вас до Себе; | Ye have seen all that I have done to the Egyptians, and I took you up as upon eagles' wings, and I brought you near to myself. |
|

| отже, якщо ви будете слухатися гласу Мого і дотримувати завіт Мій, то будете Моїм уділом з усіх народів, тому що Моя вся земля, | And now if ye will indeed hear my voice, and keep my covenant, ye shall be to me a peculiar people above all nations; for the whole earth is mine. |

| а ви будете у Мене царством священиків і народом святим; ось слова, які ти скажеш синам Ізраїлевим. | And ye shall be to me a royal priesthood and a holy nation: these words shalt thou speak to the children of Israel. |

| І прийшов Мойсей і скликав старійшин народу і переповів їм усі ці слова, що заповів йому Господь. | And Moses came and called the elders of the people, and he set before them all these words, which God appointed them. |
|

| І весь народ відповідав одностайно, говорячи: усе, що сказав Господь, виконаємо [і будемо слухняні]. І доніс Мойсей слова народу Господу. | And all the people answered with one accord, and said, All things that God has spoken, we will do and hearken to: and Moses reported these words to God. |
|

| І сказав Господь Мойсеєві: ось, Я прийду до тебе в густій хмарі, щоб чув народ, як Я буду говорити з тобою, і повірив тобі назавжди. І Мойсей оголосив слова народу Господу. | And the Lord said to Moses, Lo! I come to thee in a pillar of a cloud, that the people may hear me speaking to thee, and may believe thee for ever: and Moses reported the words of the people to the Lord. |

| І сказав Господь Мойсею: піди до народу, [оголоси] й освяти його сьогодні і завтра; нехай вимиють одяг свій, | And the Lord said to Moses, Go down and solemnly charge the people, and sanctify them to-day and to-morrow, and let them wash their garments. |
|

|
| щоб бути готовими до третього дня: тому що в третій день зійде Господь перед очима всього народу на гору Синай; | And let them be ready against the third day, for on the third day the Lord will descend upon mount Sina before all the people. |
|

|
| і проведи для народу смугу з усіх боків і скажи: стережіться підніматися на гору і доторкатися до підошви її; всякий, хто доторкнеться до гори, відданий буде на смерть, | And thou shalt separate the people round about, saying, Take heed to yourselves that ye go not up into the mountain, nor touch any part of it: every one that touches the mountain shall surely die. |

| рука нехай не доторкнеться до нього, а нехай поб’ють його камінням, або застрелять стрілою; чи то худоба, чи людина, нехай не залишиться в живих; під час протяжного трубного звуку, [коли хмара відійде від гори,] можуть вони піднятися на гору. | A hand shall not touch it, for every one that touches shall be stoned with stones or shot through with a dart, whether beast or whether man, it shall not live: when the voices and trumpets and cloud depart from off the mountain, they shall come up on the mountain. |

| І зійшов Мойсей з гори до народу й освятив народ, і вони вимили одяг свій. | And Moses went down from the mountain to the people, and sanctified them, and they washed their clothes. |

|
| І сказав народу: будьте готові до третього дня; не доторкайтеся до дружин. | And he said to the people, Be ready: for three days come not near to a woman. |
|

|
| На третій день, коли настав ранок, були громи і блискавки, і густа хмара над горою [Синайською], і трубний звук дуже сильний; і затремтів увесь народ, що був у стані. | And it came to pass on the third day, as the morning drew nigh, there were voices and lightnings and a dark cloud on mount Sina: the voice of the trumpet sounded loud, and all the people in the camp trembled. |

| І вивів Мойсей народ зі стану назустріч Богу, і стали біля підошви гори. | And Moses led the people forth out of the camp to meet God, and they stood by under the mountain. |
|

| Гора ж Синай уся димілася від того, що Господь зійшов на неї у вогні; і піднімався від неї дим, як дим з печі, і вся гора сильно коливалася; | The mount of Sina was altogether on a smoke, because God had descended upon it in fire; and the smoke went up as the smoke of a furnace, and the people were exceedingly amazed. |

| і звук трубний ставав сильнішим і сильнішим. Мойсей говорив, і Бог відповідав йому голосом. | And the sounds of the trumpet were waxing very much louder. Moses spoke, and God answered him with a voice. |
|

| І зійшов Господь на гору Синай, на вершину гори, і прикликав Господь Мойсея на вершину гори, і зійшов Мойсей. | And the Lord came down upon mount Sina on the top of the mountain; and the Lord called Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up. |
|

| І сказав Господь Мойсеєві: зійди і підтвердь народу, щоб він не поривався до Господа бачити Його, і щоб не впав багато хто з нього; | And God spoke to Moses, saying, Go down, and solemnly charge the people, lest at any time they draw nigh to God to gaze, and a multitude of them fall. |

|
| священики ж, що наближаються до Господа [Бога], повинні освятити себе, щоб не уразив їх Господь. | And let the priests that draw nigh to the Lord God sanctify themselves, lest he destroy some of them. |
|

|
| І сказав Мойсей Господу: не може народ підняться на гору Синай, тому що Ти застеріг нас, сказавши: проведи смугу навколо гори й освяти її. | And Moses said to God, The people will not be able to approach to the mount of Sina, for thou hast solemnly charged us, saying, Set bounds to the mountain and sanctify it. |

| І Господь сказав йому: піди, зійди, потім піднімись ти і з тобою Аарон; а священики і народ нехай не пориваються сходити до Господа, щоб [Господь] не уразив їх. | And the Lord said to him, Go, descend, and come up thou and Aaron with thee; but let not the priests and the people force their way to come up to God, lest the Lord destroy some of them. |

| І зійшов Мойсей до народу і переповів йому. | And Moses went down to the people, and spoke to them. |
