Chapter 10	Глава 10

A wise son makes his father glad: but a foolish son is a grief to his mother.	Притчі Соломона. Син мудрий радує батька, а син нерозумний — засмучення для його матері.

Treasures shall not profit the lawless: but righteousness shall deliver from death.	Не приносять користи скарби неправедні, правда ж рятує від смерти.

The Lord will not famish a righteous soul: but he will overthrow the life of the ungodly.	Не допустить Господь терпіти голод душі праведного, надбання ж нечестивих вивергне.

Poverty brings a man low: but the hands of the vigorous make rich.	Лінива рука робить бідним, а рука старанна збагачує.

A son who is instructed shall be wise, and shall use the fool for a servant.

A wise son is saved from heat: but a lawless son is blighted of the winds in harvest.	Хто збирає влітку — син розумний, а хто спить під час жнив — син безпутний.

The blessing of the Lord is upon the head of the just: but untimely grief shall cover the mouth of the ungodly.	Благословення — на голові праведника, вуста ж беззаконних загородить насильство.

The memory of the just is praised; but the name of the ungodly man is extinguished.	Пам’ять праведника буде благословенна, а ім’я нечестивих мерзотним.

A wise man in heart will receive commandments; but he that is unguarded in his lips shall be overthrown in his perverseness.	Мудрий серцем приймає заповіді, а нерозумний устами спотикнеться.

He that walks simply, walks confidently; but he that perverts his ways shall be known.	Хто ходить у непорочності, той ходить безпечно; а хто спотворює путі свої, той буде покараний.

He that winks with his eyes deceitfully, procures griefs for men; but he that reproves boldly is a peacemaker.	Хто мигає очима, той викликає досаду, а нерозумний устами спотикнеться.

There is a fountain of life in the hand of a righteous man; but destruction shall cover the mouth of the ungodly.	Вуста праведника — джерело життя, вуста ж беззаконних загородить насильство.

Hatred stirs up strife; but affection covers all that do not love strife.	Ненависть збуджує розбрати, але любов покриває всі гріхи.

He that brings forth wisdom from his lips smites the fool with a rod.	У вустах розумного знаходиться мудрість, але на тілі нерозумного — різка.

The wise will hide discretion; but the mouth of the hasty draws near to ruin.	Мудрі зберігають знання, але вуста нерозумного — близька загибель.

The wealth of rich men is a strong city; but poverty is the ruin of the ungodly.	Майно багатого — міцне місто його, біда для бідних — убогість їх.

The works of the righteous produce life; but the fruits of the ungodly produce sins.	Труди праведного — до життя, успіх нечестивого — до гріха.

Instruction keeps the right ways of life; but instruction unchastened goes astray.	Хто зберігає настановлення, той на путі до життя; а той, хто відкидає викривання, — блукає.

Righteous lips cover enmity; but they that utter railings are most foolish.	Хто приховує ненависть, у того вуста неправдиві; і хто розголошує наклепи, той нерозумний.

By a multitude of words thou shalt not escape sin; but if thou refrain thy lips thou wilt be prudent.	При багатослів’ї не минути гріха, а той, хто стримує вуста свої, — розумний.

The tongue of the just is tried silver; but the heart of the ungodly shall fail.	Добірне срібло — язик праведного, серце ж нечестивих — нікчемність.

The lips of the righteous know sublime truths: but the foolish die in want.	Уста праведного пасуть багатьох, а нерозумні помирають від нестачі розуму.

The blessing of the Lord is upon the head of the righteous; it enriches him, and grief of heart shall not be added to it.	Благословення Господнє — воно збагачує і печалі з собою не приносить.

A fool does mischief in sport; but wisdom brings forth prudence for a man.	Для нерозумного злочинне діяння ніби забава, а людині розумній властива мудрість.

The ungodly is engulphed in destruction; but the desire of the righteous is acceptable.	Чого страшиться нечестивий, те й осягне його, а бажання праведників виконається.

When the storm passes by, the ungodly vanishes away; but the righteous turns aside and escapes for ever.	Як проноситься вихор, так немає більше нечестивого; а праведник — на вічній основі.

As a sour grape is hurtful to the teeth, and smoke to the eyes, so iniquity hurts those that practise it.	Що оцет для зубів і дим для очей, те лінивий для тих, хто посилає його.

The fear of the Lord adds length of days: but the years of the ungodly shall be shortened.	Страх Господній додає днів, літа ж нечестивих скоротяться.

Joy rests long with the righteous: but the hope of the ungodly shall perish.	Очікування праведників — радість, а надія нечестивих загине.

The fear of the Lord is a strong hold of the saints: but ruin comes to them that work wickedness.	Путь Господня — твердиня для непорочного і страх для тих, що чинять беззаконня.

The righteous shall never fail: but the ungodly shall not dwell in the earth.	Праведник повіки не завагається, нечестиві ж не будуть жити на землі.

The mouth of the righteous drops wisdom: but the tongue of the unjust shall perish.	Вуста праведника виточують мудрість, а язик зловредний відсічеться.

The lips of just men drop grace: but the mouth of the ungodly is perverse.	Вуста праведного знають благоприємне, а вуста нечестивих — розбещене.
