Chapter 19	Глава 19

The folly of a man spoils his ways: and he blames God in his heart.	Глупота людини спотворює путь її, а серце її обурюється на Господа.

Wealth acquires many friends; but the poor is deserted even of the friend he has.	Багатство додає багато друзів, а бідного залишає і друг його.

A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that accuses unjustly shall not escape.	Лжесвідок не залишиться непокараним, і хто говорить неправду, не врятується.

Many court the favour of kings; but every bad man becomes a reproach to another man.	Багато хто запобігає перед знатними, і всякий — друг людині, яка дає подарунки.

Every one who hates his poor brother shall also be far from friendship. Good understanding will draw near to them that know it, and a sensible man will find it. He that does much harm perfects mischief; and he that uses provoking words shall not escape.	Бідного ненавидять усі брати його, тим більше друзі його віддаляються від нього: женеться за ними, щоб поговорити, але і цього немає.

He that procures wisdom loves himself; and he that keeps wisdom shall find good.	Хто здобуває розум, той любить душу свою; хто спостерігає розважливість, той знаходить благо.

A false witness shall not be unpunished; and whosoever shall kindle mischief shall perish by it.	Лжесвідок не залишиться непокараним, і хто говорить неправду, загине.

Delight does not suit a fool, nor is it seemly if a servant should begin to rule with haughtiness.	Непристойна нерозумному пишність, тим більше рабові панування над князями.

A merciful man is long-suffering; and his triumph overtakes transgressors.	Розсудливість робить людину повільною на гнів, і слава для неї — бути поблажливою до провин.

The threatening of a king is like the roaring of a lion; but as dew on the grass, so is his favour.	Гнів царя — як ревіння лева, а благовоління його — як роса на траву.

A foolish son is a disgrace to his father: vows paid out of the hire of a harlot are not pure.	Нерозумний син — руйнування для батька свого, і сварлива дружина — стічна труба.

Fathers divide house and substance to their children: but a wife is suited to a man by the Lord.	Дім і майно — спадщина від батьків, а розумна дружина — від Господа.

Cowardice possesses the effeminate man; and the soul of the sluggard shall hunger.	Лінощі занурюють у сонливість, і недбайлива душа буде терпіти голод.

He that keeps the commandment keeps his own soul; but he that despises his ways shall perish.	Хто зберігає заповідь, той зберігає душу свою, а хто не дбає про путі свої, — загине.

He that has pity on the poor lends to the Lord; and he will recompense to him according to his gift.	Хто благодіє бідному, дає в борг Господу, і Він воздасть йому за благодіяння його.

Chasten thy son, for so he shall be hopeful; and be not exalted in thy soul to haughtiness.	Карай сина свого, доки є надія, і не обурюйся криком його.

A malicious man shall be severely punished, and if he commit injury, he shall also lose his life.	Гнівливий нехай терпить покарання, тому що, коли пощадиш його, доведеться тобі ще більше карати його.

Hear, son, the instruction of thy father, that thou mayest be wise at thy latter end.	Слухайся поради і приймай викривання, щоб стати тобі згодом мудрим.

There are many thoughts in a man's heart; but the counsel of the Lord abides for ever.	Багато задумів у серці людини, але відбудеться тільки визначене Господом.

Mercy is a fruit to a man: and a poor man is better than a rich liar.	Радість людині — добродійність її, і бідна людина краще, ніж неправдива.

The fear of the Lord is life to a man: and he shall lodge without fear in places where knowledge is not seen.	Страх Господній веде до життя, і хто має його, завжди буде задоволений, і зло не осягне його.

He that unjustly hides his hands in his bosom, will not even bring them up to his mouth.	Лінивий опускає руку свою у чашу, і не хоче донести її до рота свого.

When a pestilent character is scourged, a simple man is made wiser: and if thou reprove a wise man, he will understand discretion.	Якщо ти покараєш кощунника, то і простий зробиться розсудливим; і якщо викриєш розумного, то він зрозуміє наставляння.

He that dishonours his father, and drives away his mother, shall be disgraced and shall be exposed to reproach.	Хто розоряє батька і виганяє матір, — син соромітний і безчесний.

A son who ceases to attend to the instruction of a father will cherish evil designs.	Перестань, сину мій, слухати напоумлення про відхилення від висловів розуму.

He that becomes surety for a foolish child will despise the ordinance: and the mouth of ungodly men shall drink down judgments.	Лукавий свідок знущається із суду, і вуста беззаконних ковтають неправду.

Scourges are preparing for the intemperate, and punishments likewise for fools.	Готові суди для кощунників, і побиття — на тіло нерозумних.
