Chapter 31	Глава 30

Who shall find a virtuous woman? for such a one is more valuable than precious stones.	Не лихослов раба перед господарем його, щоб він не прокляв тебе, і ти не залишився винним.

The heart of her husband trusts in her: such a one shall stand in no need of fine spoils.	Є рід, який проклинає батька свого і не благословляє матері своєї.

For she employs all her living for her husband's good.	Є рід, який чистий в очах своїх, тоді як не омитий від нечистот своїх.

Gathering wool and flax, she makes it serviceable with her hands.	Є рід — о, які зарозумілі очі його, і як підняті вії його!

She is like a ship trading from a distance: so she procures her livelihood.	Є рід, у якого зуби — мечі, і щелепи — ножі, щоб пожирати бідних на землі й убогих між людьми.

And she rises by night, and gives food to her household, and appointed tasks to her maidens.	У ненаситності дві дочки: «давай, давай!» Ось три невситимих, і чотири, які не скажуть: «достатньо!»

She views a farm, and buys it: and with the fruit of her hands she plants a possession.	Пекло й утроба безплідна, земля, що не насичується водою, і вогонь, що не говорить: «досить!»

She strongly girds her loins, and strengthens her arms for work.	Око, що насміхається з батька і нехтує покірністю до матері, виклюють ворони дольні, і пожеруть пташенята орлині!

And she finds by experience that working is good; and her candle goes not out all night.	Три речі незбагненні для мене, і чотирьох я не розумію:

She reaches forth her arms to needful works, and applies her hands to the spindle.	путі орла на небі, путі змія на скелі, путі корабля серед моря і путі чоловіка до дівчини.

And she opens her hands to the needy, and reaches out fruit to the poor.	Така путь і дружини перелюбної; поїла й обтерла рот свій, і говорить: «я нічого поганого не зробила».

Her husband is not anxious about those at home when he tarries anywhere abroad: for all her household are clothed.	Від трьох трясеться земля, чотирьох вона не може носити:

She makes for her husband clothes of double texture, and garments for herself of fine linen and scarlet.	раба, коли він стає царем; нерозумного, коли він досита їсть хліб;

And her husband becomes a distinguished person in the gates, when he sits in council with the old inhabitants of the land.	ганебну жінку, коли вона виходить заміж, і служницю, коли вона займає місце пані своєї.

She makes fine linens, and sells girdles to the Chananites: she opens her mouth heedfully and with propriety, and controls her tongue.	Ось чотири малих на землі, але вони мудріші за мудрих:

She puts on strength and honour; and rejoices in the last days.	мурахи — народ несильний, але влітку заготовляють їжу свою;

The ways of her household are careful, and she eats not the bread of idleness.	гірські миші — народ слабкий, але ставлять доми свої на скелі;

But she opens her mouth wisely, and according to law.	у сарани немає царя, але виступає уся вона струнко;

And her kindness to them sets up her children for them, and they grow rich, and her husband praises her.	павук лапками чіпляється, але буває у царських чертогах.

Many daughters have obtained wealth, many have wrought valiantly; but thou hast exceeded, thou hast surpassed all.	Ось троє мають струнку ходу, і четверо струнко виступають:

Charms are false, and woman's beauty is vain: for it is a wise woman that is blessed, and let her praise the fear of the Lord.	лев, силач між звірами, не посторониться ні перед ким;
31	31
Give her of the fruit of her lips; and let her husband be praised in the gates.	кінь і козел, [проводир стада,] і цар серед народу свого.
