These are the miscellaneous instructions of Solomon, which the friends of Ezekias king of Judea copied out.	І це притчі Соломона, які зібрали люди Єзекії, царя Юдейського.

The glory of God conceals a matter: but the glory of a king honours business.	Слава Божа — покривати таємницею справу, а слава царів — досліджувати справу.

Heaven is high, and earth is deep, and a king's heart is unsearchable.	Як небо у висоті й земля в глибині, так серце царів — недослідиме.

Beat the drossy silver, and it shall be made entirely pure.	Відокреми домішки від срібла, і вийде у срібника сосуд:

Slay the ungodly from before the king, and his throne shall prosper in righteousness.	віддали неправедного від царя, і престіл його утвердиться правдою.

Be not boastful in the presence of the king, and remain not in the places of princes;	Не величайся перед лицем царя, і на місці великих не ставай;

for it is better for thee that it should be said, Come up to me, than that one should humble thee in the presence of the prince; speak of that which thine eyes have seen.	тому що краще, коли скажуть тобі: «йди сюди вище», ніж коли понизять тебе перед знатним, якого бачили очі твої.

Get not suddenly into a quarrel, lest thou repent at last.	Не вступай поспішно в тяжбу: інакше що будеш робити після закінчення, коли суперник твій осоромить тебе?

Whenever thy friend shall reproach thee, retreat backward, despise him not;	Веди тяжбу із суперником твоїм, але таємниці іншого не відкривай,

lest thy friend continue to reproach thee, so thy quarrel and enmity shall not depart, but shall be to thee like death.	щоб не докорив тобі той, хто почує це, і тоді нечестя твоє не відійде від тебе. [Любов і дружба звільняють: збережи їх для себе, щоб не зробитися тобі достойним ганьби; збережи путі твої благовпорядкованими.]

Favour and friendship set a man free, which do thou keep for thyself, lest thou be made liable to reproach; but take heed to thy ways peaceably.

As a golden apple in a necklace of sardius, so is it to speak a wise word.	Золоті яблука у срібних прозорих посудинах — слово, сказане пристойно.

In an ear-ring of gold a precious sardius is also set; so is a wise word to an obedient ear.	Золота серга і прикраса з чистого золота — мудрий викривач для уважного вуха.

As a fall of snow in the time of harvest is good against heat, so a faithful messenger refreshes those that send him; for he helps the souls of his employers.	Що прохолода від снігу під час жнив, те вірний посланець для того, хто посилає його: він доставляє душі господаря свого відраду.

Having found honey, eat only what is enough, lest haply thou be filled, and vomit it up.	Знайшов ти мед, — їж, скільки тобі потрібно, щоб не пересититися ним і не виблювати його.

Enter sparingly into thy friend's house, lest he be satiated with thy company, and hate thee.	Не вчащай входити в дім друга твого, щоб ти не надокучив йому і він не зненавидів тебе.

As a club, and a dagger, and a pointed arrow, so also is a man who bears false witness against his friend.	Що молот і меч і гостра стріла, те людина, яка виголошує лжесвідчення проти ближнього свого.

The way of the wicked and the foot of the transgressor shall perish in an evil day.	Що зламаний зуб і розслаблена нога, те надія на ненадійну [людину] в день біди.

As vinegar is bad for a sore, so trouble befalling the body afflicts the heart.	Що холодний день, для того, хто знімає із себе одяг, що оцет на рану, те той, хто співає пісень сумному серцю. [Як міль одягу і черва дереву, так печаль шкодить серцю людини.]

As a moth in a garment, and a worm in wood, so the grief of a man hurts the heart.

If thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink;	Якщо голодний ворог твій, нагодуй його хлібом; і якщо він спраглий, напої його водою:

for so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the Lord shall reward thee with good.	тому що, [роблячи це,] ти збираєш палаюче вугілля на голову його, і Господь воздасть тобі.

The north wind raises clouds; so an impudent face provokes the tongue.	Північний вітер приносить дощ, а таємна мова — незадоволені обличчя.

It is better to dwell on a corner of the roof, than with a railing woman in an open house.	Краще жити в кутку на покрівлі, ніж із сварливою дружиною у просторому домі.

As cold water is agreeable to a thirsting soul, so is a good message from a land far off.	Що холодна вода для виснаженої спрагою душі, те добра звістка з далекої країни.

As if one should stop a well, and corrupt a spring of water, so is it unseemly for a righteous man to fall before an ungodly man.	Що збурене джерело й пошкоджена криниця, те праведник, що падає перед нечестивим.

It is not good to eat much honey; but it is right to honour venerable sayings.	Як недобре їсти багато меду, так домагатися слави не є слава.

As a city whose walls are broken down, and which is unfortified, so is a man who does anything without counsel.	Що місто зруйноване, без стін, те людина, що не володіє духом своїм.
