Chapter 21	Глава 21

As a rush of water, so is the king's heart in God's hand: he turns it whithersoever he may desire to point out.	Серце царя — у руці Господа, як потоки вод: куди захоче, туди Він направляє його.

Every man seems to himself righteous; but the Lord directs the hearts.	Усякий шлях людини прямий в очах її; але Господь зважує серця.

To do justly and to speak truth, are more pleasing to God than the blood of sacrifices.	Дотримання правди і правосуддя більш угодне Господу, ніж жертва.

A high-minded man is stout-hearted in his pride; and the lamp of the wicked is sin.	Гордість очей і зарозумілість серця, які відзначають нечестивих, — гріх.

He that gathers treasures with a lying tongue pursues vanity on to the snares of death.	Придбання скарбу неправдивим язиком — скороминучий подув тих, хто шукає смерти.

Destruction shall lodge with the ungodly; for they refuse to do justly.	Насильство нечестивих упаде на них, тому що вони зреклися дотримуватися правди.

To the froward God sends froward ways; for his works are pure and right.	Мінливий шлях у людини розбещеної; а хто чистий, того дія пряма.

It is better to dwell in a corner on the house-top, than in plastered rooms with unrighteousness, and in an open house.	Краще жити в кутку на покрівлі, ніж зі сварливою дружиною у просторому домі.

The soul of the ungodly shall not be pitied by any man.	Душа нечестивого бажає зла: не знайде милости в очах його і друг його.

When an intemperate man is punished the simple becomes wiser: and a wise man understanding will receive knowledge.	Коли карається кощунник, простий робиться мудрим; і коли врозумляється мудрий, то він здобуває знання.

A righteous man understands the hearts of the ungodly: and despises the ungodly for their wickedness.	Праведник спостерігає за домом нечестивого: як впадають нечестиві у нещастя.
13	13
He that stops his ears from hearing the poor, himself also shall cry, and there shall be none to hear him.	Хто затикає вухо своє від волання бідного, той і сам буде волати, — і не буде почутий.

A secret gift calms anger: but he that forbears to give stirs up strong wrath.	Подарунок таємний гасить гнів, і дарунок у пазуху — сильну лють.

It is the joy of the righteous to do judgment: but a holy man is abominable with evil-doers.	Дотримання правосуддя — радість для праведника і страх для тих, хто чинить зло.

A man that wanders out of the way of righteousness, shall rest in the congregation of giants.	Людина, що збилася з путі розуму, оселиться в зібранні мерців.

A poor man loves mirth, loving wine and oil in abundance;	Хто любить веселощі, зубожіє; а хто любить вино і жир, не розбагатіє.

and a transgressor is the abomination of a righteous man.	Викупом буде за праведного нечестивий і за прямодушного — лукавий.

It is better to dwell in a wilderness than with a quarrelsome and talkative and passionate woman.	Краще жити у землі пустельній, ніж з дружиною сварливою і сердитою.

A desirable treasure will rest on the mouth of the wise; but foolish men will swallow it up.	Жаданий скарб і жир — у домі мудрого; а нерозумна людина марнотратить їх.

The way of righteousness and mercy will find life and glory.	Хто дотримується правди і милости, той знайде життя, правду і славу.

A wise man assaults strong cities, and demolishes the fortress in which the ungodly trusted.	Мудрий входить у місто сильних і знищує укріплення, на яке вони сподівалися.

He that keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from trouble.	Хто зберігає вуста свої і язик свій, той зберігає від біди душу свою.

A bold and self-willed and insolent man is called a pest: and he that remembers injuries is a transgressor.	Зарозумілий злодій — кощунник ім’я йому — діє у запалі гордости.

Desires kill the sluggard; for his hands do not choose to do anything.	Жадоба лінивця уб’є його, тому що руки його відмовляються працювати;

An ungodly man entertains evil desires all the day: but the righteous is unsparingly merciful and compassionate.	кожного дня він сильно жадає, а праведник дає і не шкодує.

The sacrifices of the ungodly are abomination to the Lord, for they offer them wickedly.	Жертва нечестивих — мерзота, особливо коли з лукавством приносять її.

A false witness shall perish; but an obedient man will speak cautiously.	Лжесвідок загине; а людина, яка говорить те, що знає, буде говорити завжди.

An ungodly man impudently withstands with his face; but the upright man himself understands his ways.	Людина нечестива зухвала лицем своїм, а праведний тримає прямо путь свою.
30	30
There is no wisdom, there is no courage, there is no counsel against the ungodly.	Немає мудрости, і немає розуму, і немає ради всупереч Господу.

A horse is prepared for the day of battle; but help is of the Lord.	Коня готують на день битви, але перемога — від Господа.
