Глава 2	Chapter 2

У ті дні вийшов від кесаря Августа наказ зробити перепис по всій землі.	Now it came to pass in those days, there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be enrolled.

Цей перепис був перший за правління Квиринія Сирією.	This was the first enrollment made when Quirinius was governor of Syria.

І всі йшли записатися, кожен до свого міста.	And all went to enroll themselves, every one to his own city.

Пішов також і Йосиф з Галилеї, з міста Назарета, до Юдеї, до міста Давидового, що зветься Вифлеєм, бо він був з дому і роду Давидового,	And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David;

записатися з Марією, зарученою з ним жінкою, яка була вагітна.	to enroll himself with Mary, who was betrothed to him as his wife, being great with child.

Коли ж вони були там, надійшов час родити Їй;	And it came to pass, while they were there, the days were fulfilled that she should be delivered.

І народила Сина Свого Первістка, і сповила Його, і поклала Його в ясла, бо не було їм місця в гостиниці.	And she brought forth her firstborn son; and she wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in the manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

У тій стороні були на полі пастухи, які стерегли нічної пори отару свою.	And there were shepherds in the same country abiding in the field, and keeping watch by night over their flock.

Аж ось ангел Господній став між них, і слава Господня осяяла їх; злякалися вони страхом великим.	And lo, an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

І сказав їм ангел: не бійтеся; я благовіщу вам радість велику, яка буде всім людям.	And the angel said unto them, Be not afraid; for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to all the people:

Бо нині у місті Давидовому народився для вас Спаситель, Який є Христос Господь.	for there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

І ось вам знамення: ви знайдете сповите Немовля, Яке лежатиме в яслах.	And this is the sign unto you: Ye shall find a babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in the manger.

І раптом з’явилося біля ангела численне воїнство небесне, яке славило Бога і викликувало:	And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
14	14
слава у вишніх Богу і на землі мир, в людях благовоління!	Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, good pleasure among men.
15	15
І коли ангели відійшли від них на небо, пастухи сказали один одному: підемо до Вифлеєма і подивимось, що там сталося, про що сповістив нам Господь.	And it came to pass, when the angels went away from them into heaven, that the men, the shepherds, said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing that is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.

І, поспішивши, прийшли і знайшли Марію та Йосифа, і Немовля, Яке лежало в яслах.	And they came with haste, and found both Mary and Joseph, and the babe lying in the manger.

Побачивши ж, розповіли про те, що було сповіщено їм про Немовля Це.	And when they saw it, they made known abroad concerning the saying which was spoken to them about this child.

І всі, хто чув, дивувалися тому, що розповідали їм пастухи.	And all that heard it wondered at the things which were spoken unto them by the shepherds.

А Марія зберігала всі слова ці, складаючи в серці Своїм.	But Mary kept all these sayings, pondering them in her heart.
20	20
Пастухи ж повернулися, славлячи і хвалячи Бога за все те, що чули й бачили, як було сказано їм.	And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, even as it was spoken unto them.
21	21
А як минуло вісім днів, коли належало обрізати Його, дали Йому ім’я Ісус, наречене ангелом ще перед тим, як зачався Він в утробі.	And when eight days were fulfilled for circumcising him, his name was called JESUS, which was so called by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.

І коли настали дні очищення за законом Мойсеєвим, то принесли Його до Єрусалима, щоб поставити перед Господом,	And when the days of their purification according to the law of Moses were fulfilled, they brought him up to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord

як написано в законі Господньому, щоб усяка дитина чоловічої статі, яка розкриває утробу, була посвячена Господеві.	(as it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord),

І щоб принести в жертву, як сказано в законі Господньому, дві горлиці або двоє голуб’ят.	and to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.

Був тоді в Єрусалимі чоловік на ім’я Симеон. Він був муж праведний та благочестивий, що чекав утіхи Ізраїлевої, і Дух Святий був на ньому.	And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and this man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Spirit was upon him.

Йому було провіщено Духом Святим, що він не побачить смерти, доки не побачить Христа Господнього.	And it had been revealed unto him by the Holy Spirit, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.

І був він приведений Духом у храм. І коли батьки принесли Немовля Ісуса, щоб зробити з Ним за законним звичаєм,	And he came in the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, that they might do concerning him after the custom of the law,

він взяв Його на руки, благословив Бога і сказав:	then he received him into his arms, and blessed God, and said,

нині відпускаєш раба Твого, Владико, за словом Твоїм, з миром,	Now lettest thou thy servant depart, Lord, According to thy word, in peace;

бо бачили очі мої спасіння Твоє,	For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,
31	31
яке Ти приготував перед лицем усіх народів,	Which thou hast prepared before the face of all peoples;
32	32
світло на просвітлення язичників і славу народу Твого Ізраїля.	A light for revelation to the Gentiles, And the glory of thy people Israel.

Йосиф же і Мати Його дивувалися сказаному про Нього.	And Joseph and his mother were marveling at the things which were spoken concerning him;

І благословив їх Симеон і сказав Марії, Матері Його: ось лежить Цей на падіння і на піднесення багатьох в Ізраїлі і на знак сперечання, —	and Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the falling and the rising of many in Israel; and for a sign which is spoken against;

і Тобі Самій душу пройме меч, — щоб відкрилися помисли багатьох сердець.	yea and a sword shall pierce through thine own soul; that thoughts out of many hearts may be revealed.

Тут була й Анна-пророчиця, дочка Фануїлова, з коліна Асирова, яка досягла глибокої старости, проживши з чоловіком сім років від дівоцтва свого;	And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher (she was of a great age, having lived with a husband seven years from her virginity,

вдова вісімдесяти чотирьох років, яка не відходила від храму, постом і молитвою служачи день і ніч.	and she was a widow of about fourscore and four years), who departed not from the temple, worshiping with fastings and supplications night and day.

Прийшовши тієї години, вона славила Господа і говорила про Нього всім, хто чекав спасіння в Єрусалимі.	And she, coming up at that very hour, gave thanks unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that were looking for redemption in Jerusalem.

І коли виконали все за законом Господнім, повернулися до Галилеї, до міста свого Назарета.	And when they had accomplished all things that were according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth.

Дитя зростало і міцніло духом, сповнюючись премудрости, і благодать Божа була на Ньому.	And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.

Щороку батьки Його ходили до Єрусалима на свято Пасхи.	And his parents went every year to Jerusalem at the feast of the passover.

І коли було Йому дванадцять років, прийшли вони також за звичаєм до Єрусалима на свято.	And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast;

Як скінчилися дні свята, вони повертались, а Отрок Ісус залишився в Єрусалимі; і не помітили того Йосиф і Мати Його.	and when they had fulfilled the days, as they were returning, the boy Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew it not;

Думали, що Він іде з іншими; пройшовши ж день дороги, почали шукати Його серед родичів та знайомих.	but supposing him to be in the company, they went a day’s journey; and they sought for him among their kinsfolk and among their acquaintance:

І, не знайшовши Його, повернулись до Єрусалима, шукаючи Його.	and when they found him not, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking him.

Через три дні знайшли Його в храмі, де Він сидів серед учителів, слухав їх і розпитував;	And it came to pass, after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both hearing them, and asking them questions:

усі, хто слухав Його, дивувалися розуму і відповідям Його.	and all that heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers.

І, побачивши Його, здивувалися; і Мати Його сказала Йому: Чадо! Що Ти зробив з нами? Ось батько Твій і Я, вболіваючи, шукали Тебе.	And when they saw him, they were astonished; and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I sought thee sorrowing.

Він сказав їм: навіщо вам було шукати Мене? Хіба ви не знали, що Я маю бути в тому, що належить Отцю Моєму?	And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? knew ye not that I must be in my Father’s house?

Але вони не зрозуміли сказаних Ним слів.	And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.

І Він пішов з ними, і прийшов у Назарет, і корився їм. І Мати Його зберігала всі слова ці в серці Своєму.	And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth; and he was subject unto them: and his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.
52	52
Ісус же зростав у премудрості і віком, в любові у Бога і людей.	And Jesus advanced in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.
