| And Job answered and said, | І відповів Іов і сказав: |

| So then ye alone are men, and wisdom shall die with you? | дійсно, тільки ви люди, і з вами помре мудрість! |

| But I also have a heart as well as you. | І у мене є серце, як у вас; не нижчий я за вас; і хто не знає того ж? |
|

|
| For a righteous and blameless man has become a subject for mockery. | Посміховищем став я для друга свого, я, що взивав до Бога, і якому Він відповідав, посміховиськом — чоловік праведний, непорочний. |
|

|
| For it had been ordained that he should fall under others at the appointed time, and that his houses should be spoiled by transgressors: let not however any one trust that, being evil, he shall be held guiltless, | Так знехтуваний за думками того, хто сидить у спокої, смолоскип, приготований для тих, що спотикаються ногами. |

| even as many as provoke the Lord, as if there were indeed to be no inquisition made of them. | Спокійні намети у грабіжників і безпечні у тих, хто прогнівляє Бога, які ніби Бога носять у руках своїх. |

| But ask now the beasts, if they may speak to thee; and the birds of the air, if they may declare to thee. | І справді: запитай у худоби, і навчить тебе, у птаха небесного, і сповістить тебе; |

| Tell the earth, if it may speak to thee: and the fishes of the sea shall explain to thee. | або поговори з землею, і наставить тебе, і скажуть тобі риби морські. |

|
| Who then has not known in all these things, that the hand of the Lord has made them? | Хто у всьому цьому не узнає, що рука Господа створила це? |

|
| Whereas the life of all living things is in his hand, and the breath of every man. | В Його руці душа всього, що живе, і дух усякої людської плоті. |

|
| For the ear tries words, and the palate tastes meats. | Чи не вухо розрізняє слова, і чи не язик розпізнає смак їжі? |
|

|
| In length of time is wisdom, and in long life knowledge. | У старцях — мудрість, і у довголітніх — розум. |
|

|
| With him are wisdom and power, with him counsel and understanding. | У Нього премудрість і сила; Його рада і розум. |
|

|
| If he should cast down, who will build up? if he should shut up against men, who shall open? | Що Він зруйнує, те не побудується; кого Він ув’язнить, той не звільниться. |
|

|
| If he should withhold the water, he will dry the earth: and if he should let it loose, he overthrows and destroys it. | Зупинить води, і все висохне; пустить їх, і перетворять землю. |
|

|
| With him are strength and power: he has knowledge and understanding. | У Нього могутність і премудрість, перед Ним той, хто помиляється і вводить в оману. |
|

|
| He leads counsellors away captive, and maddens the judges of the earth. | Він приводить радників до необміркованости і суддів робить нерозумними. |
|

|

|
| He seats kings upon thrones, and girds their loins with a girdle. | Він позбавляє перев’язів царів і поясом обв’язує стегна їхні; |
|

|

|
| He sends away priests into captivity, and overthrows the mighty ones of the earth. | князів позбавляє достоїнства і долає хоробрих; |
|
20
|
20
|
| He changes the lips of the trusty, and he knows the understanding of the elders. | віднімає язик у красномовців і старців позбавляє сенсу; |
|

|

|
| He pours dishonour upon princes, and heals the lowly. | покриває соромом знаменитих і силу могутніх ослаблює; |
|

|

|
| Revealing deep things out of darkness: and he has brought into light the shadow of death. | відкриває глибоке із середовища пітьми і виводить на світло тінь смертну; |

|
| Causing the nations to wander, and destroying them: overthrowing the nations, and leading them away. | примножує народи і знищує їх; розсіває народи і збирає їх; |

|
| Perplexing the minds of the princes of the earth: and he causes them to wander in a way they have not known, saying, | віднімає розум у глав народу землі і залишає їх блукати в пустелі, де немає шляхів: |

|
| Let them grope in darkness, and let there be no light, and let them wander as a drunken man. | навпомацки ходять вони у темряві без світла і тиняються, як п’яні. |
