| Then Job answered and said, | І відповів Іов і сказав: |

| Yea, I know that pleading is out of my reach; and his hand has been made heavy upon my groaning. | ще і нині гіркі слова мої: страждання мої важчі за стогнання моє. |

|
| Who would then know that I might find him, and come to an end of the matter? | О, якби я знав, де знайти Його, і міг підійти до престолу Його! |
|

|
| And I would plead my own cause, and he would fill my mouth with arguments. | Я виклав би перед Ним справу мою і вуста мої наповнив би виправданнями; |
|

|
| And I would know the remedies which he would speak to me, and I would perceive what he would tell me. | спізнав би слова, якими Він відповість мені, і зрозумів би, що Він скаже мені. |
|

|
| Though he should come on me in his great strength, then he would not threaten me; | Невже Він у повній могутності став би змагатися зі мною? О, ні! Нехай Він тільки звернув би увагу на мене. |
|

|
| for truth and reproof are from him; and he would bring forth my judgment to an end. | Тоді праведник міг би змагатися з Ним, — і я назавжди одержав би свободу від Судді мого. |

|
| For if I shall go first, and exist no longer, still what do I know concerning the latter end? | Але ось, я йду вперед — і нема Його, назад — і не знаходжу Його; |

| When he wrought on the left hand, then I observed it not: his right hand shall encompass me but I shall not see it. | чи робить Він що на лівій стороні, я не бачу; чи ховається на правій, не вбачаю. |

|
| For he knows already my way; and he has tried me as gold. | Але Він знає путь мою; нехай випробує мене, — вийду, як золото. |

| And I will go forth according to his commandments, for I have kept his ways; and I shall not turn aside from his commandments, | Нога моя твердо тримається стежок Його; путі Його я зберігав і не ухилявся. |

|
| neither shall I transgress; but I have hid his words in my bosom. | Від заповіді вуст Його не відступав; слова вуст Його зберігав більше, ніж мої правила. |

|
| And if too he has thus judged, who is he that has contradicted, for he has both willed a thing and done it. | Але Він твердий; і хто відхилить Його? Він робить, чого хоче душа Його. |

|
| Therefore am I troubled at him; and when I was reproved, I thought of him. | Тому я тремчу перед лицем Його; розмірковую — і страшуся Його. |

| Therefore let me take good heed before him: I will consider, and be afraid of him. | |
|

|
| But the Lord has softened my heart, and the Almighty has troubled me. | Бог розслабив серце моє, і Вседержитель налякав мене. |

|
| For I knew not that darkness would come upon me, and thick darkness has covered me before my face. | Чому я не був знищений раніше цієї темряви, і Він не приховав мороку від лиця мого! |
