| And Job continued and said in his parable, | І продовжував Іов піднесену промову свою і сказав: |

| Oh that I were as in months past, wherein God preserved me! | о, якби я був, як у минулі місяці, як у ті дні, коли Бог зберігав мене, |

| As when his lamp shone over my head; when by his light I walked through darkness. | коли світильник Його світив над головою моєю, і я при світлі Його ходив серед пітьми; |

|
| As when I steadfastly pursued my ways, when God took care of my house. | як був я у дні молодости моєї, коли милість Божа була над наметом моїм, |
|

|
| When I was very fruitful, and my children were about me; | коли ще Вседержитель був зі мною, і діти мої навколо мене, |
|

|
| when my ways were moistened with butter, and the mountains flowed for me with milk. | коли путі мої обливалися молоком, і скеля виточувала для мене струмки єлею! |
|

| When I went forth early in the city, and the seat was placed for me in the streets. | коли я виходив до воріт міста і на площі ставив сідалище своє, — |

| The young men saw me, and hid themselves: and all the old men stood up. | юнаки, побачивши мене, ховалися, а старці вставали і стояли; |

|
| And the great men ceased speaking, and laid their finger on their mouth. | князі утримувалися від розмови і персти клали на вуста свої; |
|

|
| And they that heard me blessed me, and their tongue clave to their throat. | голос знатних умовкав, і язик їх прилипав до гортані їх. |

|
| For the ear heard, and blessed me; and the eye saw me, and turned aside. | Вухо, яке чуло мене, ублажало мене; око, яке бачило, величало мене, |

|
| For I saved the poor out of the hand of the oppressor, and helped the fatherless who had no helper. | тому що я рятував страдника, який волав, і сироту безпомічного. |

|
| Let the blessing of the perishing one come upon me; yea, the mouth of the widow has blessed me. | Благословення того, хто гинув, сходило на мене, і серцю вдови давав я радість. |
|

|
| Also I put on righteousness, and clothed myself with judgment like a mantle. | Я одягався у правду, і суд мій прикрашав мене, як мантія й вінець. |
|

|
| I was the eye of the blind, and the foot of the lame. | Я був очима сліпому і ногами кульгавому; |
|

|
| I was the father of the helpless; and I searched out the cause which I knew not. | батьком був я для убогих і позов, якого я не знав, розбирав уважно. |
|

|
| And I broke the jaw-teeth of the unrighteous; I plucked the spoil out of the midst of their teeth. | Розтрощував я беззаконному щелепи і з зубів його виривав украдене. |

|
| And I said, My age shall continue as the stem of a palm-tree; I shall live a long while. | І говорив я: у гнізді моєму помру, і дні мої будуть численні, як пісок; |

|
| My root was spread out by the water, and the dew would lodge on my crop. | корінь мій відкритий для води, і роса ночує на гілках моїх; |
|

|
| My glory was fresh in me, and my bow prospered in his hand. | слава моя не старіє, лук мій міцний у руці моїй. |

|
| Men heard me, and gave heed, and they were silent at my counsel. | Слухали мене й очікували, і мовчали при пораді моїй. |
|

|
| At my word they spoke not again, and they were very glad whenever I spoke to them. | Після слів моїх уже не розмірковували; слова мої капали на них. |
|

|
| As the thirsty earth expecting the rain, so they waited for my speech. | Чекали на мене, як на дощ, і, як дощу пізньому, відкривали вуста свої. |

|
| Were I to laugh on them, they would not believe it; and the light of my face has not failed. | Бувало, усміхнуся їм — вони не вірять; і світлого лиця мого вони не затьмарювали. |

|
| I chose out their way, and sat chief, and dwelt as a king in the midst of warriors, as one comforting mourners. | Я призначав путі їм і сидів на чолі і жив, як цар у колі воїнів, як утішитель тих, хто плаче. |
