| I have heard many such things: poor comforters are ye all. | чув я багато такого; жалюгідні утішителі всі ви! |

| What! is there any reason in vain words? or what will hinder thee from answering? | Чи буде кінець легковажним словам? і що спонукало тебе так відповідати? |

|
| I also will speak as ye do: if indeed your soul were in my soul's stead, then would I insult you with words, and I would shake my head at you. | І я міг би так само говорити, як ви, якби душа ваша була на місці душі моєї; ополчався б на вас словами і кивав би на вас головою моєю; |

| And would there were strength in my mouth, and I would not spare the movement of my lips. | підкріплював би вас язиком моїм і рухом губ утішав би. |

| For if I should speak, I shall not feel the pain of my wound: and if I should be silent, how shall I be wounded the less? | Чи говорю я, не стихає скорбота моя; чи перестаю, що відходить від мене? |

| But now he has made me weary, and a worn-out fool; and thou hast laid hold of me. | Але нині Він виснажив мене. Ти зруйнував усю родину мою. |

| In his anger he has cast me down; he has gnashed his teeth upon me: the weapons of his robbers have fallen upon me. | Гнів Його терзає і ворогує проти мене, скрегоче на мене зубами своїми; ворог мій гострить на мене очі свої. |

| He has attacked me with the keen glances of his eyes; with his sharp spear he has smitten me down upon my knees; and they have run upon me with one accord. | Розкрили на мене пащу свою; ганьблять і б’ють мене по щоках: усі змовилися проти мене. |

| For the Lord has delivered me into the hands of unrighteous men, and thrown me upon the ungodly. | Віддав мене Бог беззаконнику і у руки нечестивих кинув мене. |

| They sewed sackcloth upon my skin, and my strength has been spent on the ground. | Веретище зшив я на шкіру мою й у порох поклав голову мою. |

| My belly has been parched with wailing, and darkness is on my eyelids. | Обличчя моє почервоніло від плачу, і на повіках моїх тінь смерти, |

| Yet there was no injustice in my hands, and my prayer is pure. | попри все те, що немає вкраденого в руках моїх, і молитва моя чиста. |

| Earth, cover not over the blood of my flesh, and let my cry have no place. | Земле! не закрий моєї крови, і нехай не буде місця воланню моєму. |

| And now, behold, my witness is in heaven, and my advocate is on high. | І нині ось на небесах Свідок мій, і Заступник мій у вишніх! |

| Let my supplication come to the Lord, and let mine eye weep before him. | Багатомовні друзі мої! До Бога плачуть очі мої. |

| Oh that a man might plead before the Lord, even as the son of man with his neighbour! | О, якби чоловік міг змагатися з Богом, як син людський із ближнім своїм! |
|

|
| But my years are numbered and their end come, and I shall go by the way by which I shall not return. | Бо літам моїм приходить кінець, і я відходжу в путь безповоротну. |
