| І сказав Господь Авраму: піди з землі твоєї, від роду твого і з дому батька твого [і йди] у землю, яку Я покажу тобі; | And the Lord said to Abram, Go forth out of thy land and out of thy kindred, and out of the house of thy father, and come into the land which I shall shew thee. |
|

| і Я спороджу від тебе великий народ, і благословлю тебе, і звеличу ім’я твоє, і будеш ти благословенням; | And I will make thee a great nation, and I will bless thee and magnify thy name, and thou shalt be blessed. |
|

|
| Я благословлю тих, що благословляють тебе, і тих, що лихословлять тебе, прокляну; і благословляться у тобі всі племена земні. | And I will bless those that bless thee, and curse those that curse thee, and in thee shall all the tribes of the earth be blessed. |

| І пішов Аврам, як сказав йому Господь; і з ним пішов Лот. Аврам був сімдесяти п’яти років, коли вийшов з Харрана. | And Abram went as the Lord spoke to him, and Lot departed with him, and Abram was seventy-five years old, when he went out of Charrhan. |

| І взяв Аврам з собою Сару, дружину свою, Лота, сина брата свого, і все майно, яке вони придбали, і всіх людей, яких вони мали в Харрані; і вийшли, щоб іти в землю Ханаанську; і прийшли в землю Ханаанську. | And Abram took Sara his wife, and Lot the son of his brother, and all their possessions, as many as they had got, and every soul which they had got in Charrhan, and they went forth to go into the land of Chanaan. |

| І пройшов Аврам по землі цій [у довжину її] до місця Сихема, до діброви Море́. У цій землі тоді [жили] хананеї. | And Abram traversed the land lengthwise as far as the place Sychem, to the high oak, and the Chananites then inhabited the land. |

| І явився Господь Авраму і сказав [йому]: нащадкам твоїм віддам Я землю цю. І зробив там [Аврам] жертовник Господу, Який явився йому. | And the Lord appeared to Abram, and said to him, I will give this land to thy seed. And Abram built an altar there to the Lord, who appeared to him. |

| Звідти рушив він до гори, на схід від Вефиля; і поставив намет свій так, що від нього Вефиль був на захід, а Гай на схід; і зробив там жертовник Господу і закликав ім’я Господа [Який явився йому]. | And he departed thence to the mountain eastward of Bæthel, and there he pitched his tent in Bæthel near the sea, and Aggai toward the east, and there he built an altar to the Lord, and called on the name of the Lord. |

| І піднявся Аврам і продовжував йти на південь. | And Abram departed and went and encamped in the wilderness. |

| І був голод у тій землі. І прийшов Аврам у Єгипет, щоб пожити там, тому що посилився голод у землі тій. | And there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to sojourn there, because the famine prevailed in the land. |
|

| Коли ж він наближався до Єгипту, то сказав Сарі, дружині своїй: ось, я знаю, що ти жінка, прекрасна на вигляд; | And it came to pass when Abram drew nigh to enter into Egypt, Abram said to Sara his wife, I know that thou art a fair woman. |

| і коли єгиптяни побачать тебе, то скажуть: це дружина його; і вб’ють мене, а тебе залишать живою; | It shall come to pass then that when the Egyptians shall see thee, they shall say, This is his wife, and they shall slay me, but they shall save thee alive. |

|
| скажи ж, що ти моя сестра, щоб мені добре було заради тебе, і щоб жива була душа моя через тебе. | Say, therefore, I am his sister, that it may be well with me on account of thee, and my soul shall live because of thee. |

| І було, коли прийшов Аврам у Єгипет, єгиптяни побачили, що вона жінка дуже красива; | And it came to pass when Abram entered into Egypt—the Egyptians having seen his wife that she was very beautiful— |

|
| побачили її і вельможі фараонові і похвалили її перед фараоном; і взята вона була до дому фараонового. | that the princes of Pharao saw her, and praised her to Pharao and brought her into the house of Pharao. |

|
| І Авраму добре було заради неї; і була у нього дрібна і велика худоба й осли, і раби і рабині, і мули і верблюди. | And they treated Abram well on her account, and he had sheep, and calves, and asses, and men-servants, and women-servants, and mules, and camels. |
|

| Але Господь уразив тяжкими ударами фараона і дім його за Сару, дружину Аврамову. | And God afflicted Pharao with great and severe afflictions, and his house, because of Sara, Abram's wife. |
|

|
| І покликав фараон Аврама і сказав: що це ти зробив зі мною? чому не сказав мені, що вона дружина твоя? | And Pharao having called Abram, said, What is this thou hast done to me, that thou didst not tell me that she was thy wife? |
|

|
| чому ти сказав: вона сестра моя? і я взяв було її собі за дружину. І тепер ось дружина твоя; візьми [її] і йди. | Wherefore didst thou say, She is my sister? and I took her for a wife to myself; and now, behold, thy wife is before thee, take her and go quickly away. |
|

|
| І дав фараон повеління про нього людям, і провели його, і дружину його, й усе, що в нього було, [і Лота з ним]. | And Pharao gave charge to men concerning Abram, to join in sending him forward, and his wife, and all that he had. |
