| Глянув Яків і побачив, і ось, іде Ісав, [брат його,] і з ним чотириста чоловік. І розділив [Яків] дітей Лії, Рахилі і двох служниць. | And Jacob lifted up his eyes, and beheld, and lo! Esau his brother coming, and four hundred men with him; and Jacob divided the children to Lea and to Rachel, and the two handmaidens. |

| І поставив [двох] служниць і дітей їхніх попереду, Лію і дітей її за ними, а Рахиль і Йосифа позаду. | And he put the two handmaidens and their children with the first, and Lea and her children behind, and Rachel and Joseph last. |

| А сам пішов перед ними і поклонився до землі сім разів, підходячи до брата свого. | But he advanced himself before them, and did reverence to the ground seven times, until he drew near to his brother. |
|

| І побіг Ісав до нього назустріч і обійняв його, й упав на шию його і цілував його, і плакали [обидва]. | And Esau ran on to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him; and they both wept. |
|

|
| І глянув [Ісав] і побачив дружин і дітей і сказав: хто це у тебе? Яків сказав: діти, яких Бог дарував рабу твоєму. | And Esau looked up and saw the women and the children, and said, What are these to thee? And he said, The children with which God has mercifully blessed thy servant. |
|

| І підійшли служниці і діти їхні й поклонилися; | And the maid-servants and their children drew near and did reverence. |

| підійшли і Лія та діти її і поклонилися; в кінці підійшли Йосиф і Рахиль і поклонились. | And Lea and her children drew near and did reverence; and after this drew near Rachel and Joseph, and did reverence. |
|

| І сказав Ісав: для чого у тебе така кількість, яку я зустрів? І сказав Яків: щоб [рабу твоєму] придбати благовоління в очах господаря мого. | And he said, What are these things to thee, all these companies that I have met? And he said, That thy servant might find grace in thy sight, my lord. |
|

| Ісав сказав: у мене багато, брате мій; нехай буде твоє у тебе. | And Esau said, I have much, my brother; keep thine own. |
|

| Яків сказав: ні, якщо я придбав благовоління в очах твоїх, прийми дар мій від руки моєї, тому що я побачив лице твоє, наче хто побачив лице Боже, і ти був доброзичливим до мене; | And Jacob said, If I have found grace in thy sight, receive the gifts through my hands; therefore have I seen thy face, as if any one should see the face of God, and thou shalt be well-pleased with me. |

| прийми благословення моє, яке я приніс тобі, тому що Бог дарував мені, і є у мене все. І ублагав його, і той узяв | Receive my blessings, which I have brought thee, because God has had mercy on me, and I have all things; and he constrained him, and he took them. |

| і сказав: піднімемося і підемо; і я піду перед тобою. | And he said, Let us depart, and proceed right onward. |
|

| Яків сказав йому: господар мій знає, що діти ніжні, а дрібна і велика худоба у мене дійна: якщо погнати її один день, то помре вся худоба; | And he said to him, My lord knows, that the children are very tender, and the flocks and the herds with me are with young; if then I shall drive them hard one day, all the cattle will die. |

| нехай господар мій піде попереду раба свого, а я піду повільно, як піде худоба, що переді мною, і як підуть діти, і прийду до господаря мого у Сеїр. | Let my lord go on before his servant, and I shall have strength on the road according to the ease of the journey before me, and according to the strength of the children, until I come to my lord to Seir. |

| Ісав сказав: залишу я з тобою кілька людей, які при мені. Яків сказав: до чого це? тільки б мені придбати благовоління в очах господаря мого! | And Esau said, I will leave with thee some of the people who are with me. And he said, Why so? it is enough that I have found favour before thee, my lord. |

| І повернувся Ісав того ж дня шляхом своїм у Сеїр. | And Esau returned on that day on his journey to Seir. |

| А Яків рушив у Сокхоф, і побудував собі дім, і для худоби своєї зробив курені. Тому він нарік ім’я місцю: Сокхоф. | And Jacob departs to his tents; and he made for himself there habitations, and for his cattle he made booths; therefore he called the name of that place, Booths. |

| Яків, повернувшись з Месопотамії, благополучно прийшов до міста Сихема, що в землі Ханаанській, і розташувався перед містом. | And Jacob came to Salem, a city of Secima, which is in the land of Chanaan, when he departed out of Mesopotamia of Syria, and took up a position in front of the city. |

| І купив частину поля, на якому розкинув намет свій, у синів Еммора, батька Сихемового, за сто монет. | And he bought the portion of the field, where he pitched his tent, of Emmor the father of Sychem, for a hundred lambs. |
|

|
| І поставив там жертовник, і призвав ім’я Господа Бога Ізраїлевого. | And he set up there an altar, and called on the God of Israel. |
