| І почув [Яків] слова синів Лаванових, які говорили: Яків заволодів усім, що було у батька нашого, і з маєтку батька нашого склав усе багатство це. | And Jacob heard the words of the sons of Laban, saying, Jacob has taken all that was our father's, and of our father's property has he gotten all this glory. |

| І побачив Яків обличчя Лавана, і ось, воно не таке до нього, як було вчора і третього дня. | And Jacob saw the countenance of Laban, and behold it was not toward him as before. |
|

|
| І сказав Господь Якову: повернися в землю батьків твоїх і на батьківщину твою; і Я буду з тобою. | And the Lord said to Jacob, Return to the land of thy father, and to thy family, and I will be with thee. |
|

|
| І послав Яків, і покликав Рахиль і Лію в поле, до отари дрібної своєї худоби, | And Jacob sent and called Lea and Rachel to the plain where the flocks were. |
|

|
5
|
| і сказав їм: я бачу обличчя батька вашого, що воно до мене не таке, яким було вчора і третього дня; але Бог батька мого був зі мною; | And he said to them, I see the face of your father, that it is not toward me as before, but the God of my father was with me. |
|

|
| ви самі знаєте, що я всіма силами служив батьку вашому, | And ye too know that with all my might I have served your father. |
|

|

|
| а батько ваш обманював мене і разів десять переміняв нагороду мою; але Бог не попустив йому зробити мені зло. | But your father deceived me, and changed my wages for the ten lambs, yet God gave him not power to hurt me. |
|

|
8
|
| Коли сказав він, що худоба з цятками буде тобі в нагороду, то худоба вся народжувалася з цятками. А коли він сказав: строкаті будуть тобі в нагороду, то вся худоба народжувала строкатих. | If he should say thus, The speckled shall be thy reward, then all the cattle would bear speckled; and if he should say, The white shall be thy reward, then would all the cattle bear white. |

| І відібрав Бог [усю] худобу у батька вашого і дав [її] мені. | So God has taken away all the cattle of your father, and given them to me. |
|

|
| Одного разу в такий час, коли худоба зачинає, я глянув і побачив уві сні, і ось козли [і барани], що піднялися на худобу [на кіз і овець], строкаті, з цятками і плямами. | And it came to pass when the cattle conceived and were with young, that I beheld with mine eyes in sleep, and behold the he-goats and the rams leaping on the sheep and the she-goats, speckled and variegated and spotted with ash-coloured spots. |

| Ангел Божий сказав мені уві сні: Якове! Я сказав: ось я. | And the angel of God said to me in a dream, Jacob; and I said, What is it? |

| Він сказав: зведи очі твої і подивися: усі козли [і барани], що піднялися на худобу [на кіз і овець], строкаті, з цятками і з плямами, бо Я бачу все, що Лаван робить з тобою; | And he said, Look up with thine eyes, and behold the he-goats and the rams leaping on the sheep and the she-goats, speckled and variegated and spotted with ash-coloured spots; for I have seen all things that Laban does to thee. |

| Я Бог [Який явився тобі] у Вефилі, де ти возлив єлей на пам’ятник і де ти дав Мені обітницю; тепер встань, вийди з землі цієї і повернися в землю батьківщини твоєї [і Я буду з тобою]. | I am God that appeared to thee in the place of God, where thou anointedst a pillar to me, and vowedst to me there a vow; now then arise and depart out of this land, depart into the land of thy nativity, and I will be with thee. |

| Рахиль і Лія сказали йому у відповідь: чи є ще нам частка і спадщина в домі батька нашого? | And Rachel and Lea answered and said to him, Have we yet a part or inheritance in the house of our father? |

|
| чи не за чужих він нас вважає? бо він продав нас і з’їв навіть срібло наше; | Are we not considered strangers by him? for he has sold us, and quite devoured our money. |
|

|
| тому все [маєток і] багатство, що Бог відібрав у батька нашого, є наше і дітей наших; отже, роби все, що Бог сказав тобі. | All the wealth and the glory which God has taken from our father, it shall be our's and our children's; now then do whatsoever God has said to thee. |
|

|
| І встав Яків, і посадив дітей своїх і дружин своїх на верблюдів, | And Jacob arose and took his wives and his children up on the camels; |
|

|
18
|
| і взяв із собою всю худобу свою і все багатство своє, яке надбав, худобу власну його, яку він придбав у Месопотамії, [і все своє,] щоб іти до Ісаака, батька свого, в землю Ханаанську. | and he took away all his possessions and all his store, which he had gotten in Mesopotamia, and all that belonged to him, to depart to Isaac his father in the land of Chanaan. |

| І коли Лаван пішов стригти худобу свою, то Рахиль викрала ідолів, що були у батька її. | And Laban went to shear his sheep; and Rachel stole her father's images. |
|

|
| Яків же украв серце у Лавана арамеянина, тому що не сповістив його, що відходить. | And Jacob hid the matter from Laban the Syrian, so as not to tell him that he ran away. |
|

|
21
|
| І пішов з усім, що у нього було; і, вставши, перейшов ріку і попрямував до гори Галаад. | And he departed himself and all that belonged to him, and passed over the river, and went into the mountain Galaad. |
|
22
|
22
|
| На третій день сказали Лавану [арамеянину], що Яків пішов. | But it was told Laban the Syrian on the third day, that Jacob was fled. |
|

|
23
|
| Тоді він взяв із собою [синів і] родичів своїх, і гнався за ним сім днів, і наздогнав його на горі Галаад. | And having taken his brethren with him, he pursued after him seven days' journey, and overtook him on Mount Galaad. |
|

24
|
| І прийшов Бог до Лавана арамеянина вночі уві сні і сказав йому: бережися, не говори Якову ні доброго, ні злого. | And God came to Laban the Syrian in sleep by night, and said to him, Take heed to thyself that thou speak not at any time to Jacob evil things. |
|

25
|
| І наздогнав Лаван Якова; Яків же поставив намет свій на горі, і Лаван з родичами своїми поставив на горі Галаад. | And Laban overtook Jacob; and Jacob pitched his tent in the mountain; and Laban stationed his brothers in the mount Galaad. |
|

|
| І сказав Лаван Якову: що ти зробив? для чого ти обманув мене, і повів дочок моїх, як полонених зброєю? | And Laban said to Jacob, What hast thou done? wherefore didst thou run away secretly, and pillage me, and lead away my daughters as captives taken with the sword? |
|

27
|
| навіщо ти втік таємно, і сховався від мене, і не сказав мені? я відпустив би тебе з веселощами і з піснями, з тимпаном і з гуслами; | Whereas if thou hadst told me, I would have sent thee away with mirth, and with songs, and timbrels, and harp. |
|

28
|
| ти не дозволив мені навіть поцілувати онуків моїх і дочок моїх; нерозважливо ти зробив. | And I was not counted worthy to embrace my children and my daughters; now then thou hast wrought foolishly. |
|

|
| Є в руці моїй сила вчинити вам зло; але Бог батька вашого вчора говорив до мене і сказав: бережися, не говори Якову ні доброго, ні злого. | And now my hand has power to hurt thee; but the God of thy father spoke to me yesterday, saying, Take heed to thyself that thou speak not evil words to Jacob. |

| Але нехай би ти пішов, тому що ти нетерпляче захотів бути у домі батька твого, — навіщо ти украв богів моїх? | Now then go on thy way, for thou hast earnestly desired to depart to the house of thy father; wherefore hast thou stolen my gods? |

|
| Яків відповів Лавану і сказав: я боявся, тому що я думав, не відняв би ти в мене дочок своїх [і все моє]. | And Jacob answered and said to Laban, Because I was afraid; for I said, Lest at any time thou shouldest take away thy daughters from me, and all my possessions. |
|

|
| [І сказав Яків:] у кого знайдеш богів твоїх, той не буде живим; при родичах наших дізнавайся, що [є твого] у мене, і візьми собі. [Але він нічого від нього не дізнався.] Яків не знав, що Рахиль [дружина його] украла їх. | And Jacob said, With whomsoever thou shalt find thy gods, he shall not live in the presence of our brethren; take notice of what I have of thy property, and take it; and he observed nothing with him, but Jacob knew not that his wife Rachel had stolen them. |

| І ходив Лаван у намет Якова, і в намет Лії, і в намет двох рабинь, [і обшукував,] але не знайшов. І, вийшовши з намету Лії, ввійшов у намет Рахилі. | And Laban went in and searched in the house of Lea, and found them not; and he went out of the house of Lea, and searched in the house of Jacob, and in the house of the two maid-servants, and found them not; and he went also into the house of Rachel. |

|
| Рахиль же взяла ідолів, і поклала їх під верблюже сідло і сіла на них. І обшукав Лаван увесь намет; але не знайшов. | And Rachel took the idols, and cast them among the camels' packs, and sat upon them. |

|
| Вона ж сказала батькові своєму: нехай не прогнівається господар мій, що я не можу встати перед тобою, тому що в мене звичайне жіноче. І [Лаван] шукав [у всьому наметі], але не знайшов ідолів. | And she said to her father, Be not indignant, Sir; I cannot rise up before thee, for it is with me according to the manner of women. Laban searched in all the house, and found not the images. |

| Яків розсердився і вступив у суперечку з Лаваном. І почав Яків говорити і сказав Лавану: яка провина моя, який гріх мій, що ти переслідуєш мене? | And Jacob was angry, and strove with Laban; and Jacob answered and said to Laban, What is my injustice, and what my sin, that thou hast pursued after me, |

| ти оглянув у мене усі речі [в домі моєму], що знайшов ти з усіх речей твого дому? покажи тут перед родичами моїми і перед родичами твоїми; нехай вони розсудять між нами обома. | and that thou hast searched all the furniture of my house? what hast thou found of all the furniture of thine house? set it here between thy relations and my relations, and let them decide between us two. |

| Ось, двадцять років я був у тебе; вівці твої і кози твої не викидали; баранів отари твоєї я не їв; | These twenty years have I been with thee; thy sheep, and thy she-goats have not failed in bearing; I devoured not the rams of thy cattle. |
|

|
| роздертого звіром я не приносив до тебе, це був мій збиток; ти з мене стягував, чи вдень що пропадало, чи вночі пропадало; | That which was taken of beasts I brought not to thee; I made good of myself the thefts of the day, and the thefts of the night. |
|

|
| я знемагав удень від спеки, а вночі від холоду, і сон мій тікав від очей моїх. | I was parched with heat by day, and chilled with frost by night, and my sleep departed from my eyes. |
|

41
|
| Такі мої двадцять років у домі твоєму. Я служив тобі чотирнадцять років за двох дочок твоїх і шість років за худобу твою, а ти десять разів переміняв нагороду мою. | These twenty years have I been in thy house; I served thee fourteen years for thy two daughters, and six years among thy sheep, and thou didst falsely rate my wages for ten lambs. |

| Якби не був зі мною Бог батька мого, Бог Авраама і страх Ісаака, ти тепер відпустив би мене ні з чим. Бог побачив недолю мою і працю рук моїх і заступився за мене вчора. | Unless I had the God of my father Abraam, and the fear of Isaac, now thou wouldest have sent me away empty; God saw my humiliation, and the labour of my hands, and rebuked thee yesterday. |

| І відповів Лаван і сказав Якову: дочки — мої дочки; діти — мої діти; худоба — моя худоба, і все, що ти бачиш, це моє: чи можу я що зробити тепер з дочками моїми і з дітьми їхніми, які народжені ними? | And Laban answered and said to Jacob, The daughters are my daughters, and the sons my sons, and the cattle are my cattle, and all things which thou seest are mine, and the property of my daughters; what shall I do to them to-day, or their children which they bore? |

| Тепер укладімо союз я і ти, і це буде свідоцтвом між мною і тобою. [При цьому Яків сказав йому: ось, з нами немає нікого; дивися, Бог свідок між мною і тобою.] | Now then come, let me make a covenant, both I and thou, and it shall be for a witness between me and thee; and he said to him, Behold, there is no one with us; behold, God is witness between me and thee. |

| І взяв Яків камінь і поставив його пам’ятником. | And Jacob having taken a stone, set it up for a pillar. |
|

|
| І сказав Яків родичам своїм: наберіть каміння. Вони взяли каміння, і зробили пагорб, і їли [і пили] там на пагорбі. [І сказав йому Лаван: пагорб цей свідок сьогодні між мною і тобою.] | And Jacob said to his brethren, Gather stones; and they gathered stones and made a heap, and ate there upon the heap; and Laban said to him, This heap witnesses between me and thee to-day. |

| І назвав його Лаван: Ієгар-Сагадуфа; а Яків назвав його Галаадом. | And Laban called it, the Heap of Testimony; and Jacob called it, the Witness Heap. |

| І сказав Лаван [Якову]: сьогодні цей пагорб [і пам’ятник, що я поставив,] між мною і тобою свідок. Тому і наречено йому ім’я: Галаад, | And Laban said to Jacob, Behold this heap, and the pillar, which I have set between me and thee; this heap witnesses, and this pillar witnesses; therefore its name was called, the Heap witnesses. |

| також: Мицпа, від того, що Лаван сказав: нехай наглядає Господь за мною і за тобою, коли ми розійдемося один від одного; | And the vision of which he said—Let God look to it between me and thee, because we are about to depart from each other,— |

| якщо ти будеш чинити лихе з дочками моїми, або якщо візьмеш дружин, крім дочок моїх, то, хоч немає людини між нами, [яка б бачила,] але дивись, Бог свідок між мною і між тобою. | If thou shalt humble my daughters, if thou shouldest take wives in addition to my daughters, see, there is no one with us looking on. God is witness between me and thee. |

| І сказав Лаван Якову: ось пагорб цей і ось пам’ятник, який я поставив між мною і тобою; | |

|
| цей пагорб свідок, і цей пам’ятник свідок, що ні я не перейду до тебе за цей пагорб, ні ти не перейдеш до мене за цей пагорб і за цей пам’ятник, для зла; | For if I should not cross over unto thee, neither shouldest thou cross over to me, for mischief beyond this heap and this pillar. |

| Бог Авраамів і Бог Нахорів нехай судить між нами, Бог батька їхнього. Яків поклявся страхом батька свого Ісаака. | The God of Abraam and the God of Nachor judge between us; and Jacob swore by the Fear of his father Isaac. |

|
| І заколов Яків жертву на горі і покликав родичів своїх їсти хліб; і вони їли хліб [і пили] і ночували на горі. | And he offered a sacrifice in the mountain, and called his brethren, and they ate and drank, and slept in the mountain. |
|
55
|
|
| І встав Лаван рано-вранці і поцілував онуків своїх і дочок своїх, і благословив їх. І пішов і повернувся Лаван у своє місце. |
