| Так були створені небо і земля і все воїнство їх. | And the heavens and the earth were finished, and the whole world of them. |

| І звершив Бог до сьомого дня діла Свої, які Він робив, і спочив у день сьомий від усіх діл Своїх, які чинив. | And God finished on the sixth day his works which he made, and he ceased on the seventh day from all his works which he made. |
|

| І благословив Бог сьомий день, і освятив його, бо спочив від усіх діл Своїх, які Бог чинив і створював. | And God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it he ceased from all his works which God began to do. |
|

| Ось походження неба і землі, при створенні їх, у той час, коли Господь Бог створив землю і небо, | This is the book of the generation of heaven and earth, when they were made, in the day in which the Lord God made the heaven and the earth, |

| і всякий польовий чагарник, якого ще не було на землі, і всяку польову траву, що ще не росла, тому що Господь Бог не посилав дощу на землю, і не було людини для обробки землі, | and every herb of the field before it was on the earth, and all the grass of the field before it sprang up, for God had not rained on the earth, and there was not a man to cultivate it. |

| але пара піднімалася з землі й зрошувала усе лице землі. | But there rose a fountain out of the earth, and watered the whole face of the earth. |

| І створив Господь Бог людину з пороху земного, і вдихнув у лице її дихання життя, і стала людина душею живою. | And God formed the man of dust of the earth, and breathed upon his face the breath of life, and the man became a living soul. |

| І насадив Господь Бог рай у Едемі на сході, і примістив там людину, яку створив. | And God planted a garden eastward in Edem, and placed there the man whom he had formed. |
|

| І виростив Господь Бог із землі всяке дерево, приємне на вигляд і добре для їжі, і дерево життя посеред раю, і дерево пізнання добра і зла. | And God made to spring up also out of the earth every tree beautiful to the eye and good for food, and the tree of life in the midst of the garden, and the tree of learning the knowledge of good and evil. |

| З Едему витікала ріка для зрошення раю; і потім розділялася на чотири ріки. | And a river proceeds out of Edem to water the garden, thence it divides itself into four heads. |

| Ім’я однієї Фисон: вона обтікає всю землю Хавила, ту, де золото; | The name of the one, Phisom, this it is which encircles the whole land of Evilat, where there is gold. |
|

|
| і золото тієї землі добре; там бдолах і камень онікс. | And the gold of that land is good, there also is carbuncle and emerald. |
|

|
| Ім’я другої ріки Гихон [Геон]: вона обтікає всю землю Куш. | And the name of the second river is Geon, this it is which encircles the whole land of Ethiopia. |

| Ім’я третьої ріки Хиддекель [Тигр]: вона протікає перед Ассирією. Четверта ріка Євфрат. | And the third river is Tigris, this is that which flows forth over against the Assyrians. And the fourth river is Euphrates. |

| І взяв Господь Бог людину, [яку створив,] і оселив її в саду Едемському, щоб обробляти його й оберігати його. | And the Lord God took the man whom he had formed, and placed him in the garden of Delight, to cultivate and keep it. |

| І заповів Господь Бог людині, сказавши: від усякого дерева в саду ти будеш їсти, | And the Lord God gave a charge to Adam, saying, Of every tree which is in the garden thou mayest freely eat, |

| а від дерева пізнання добра і зла не їж від нього, бо в той день, коли ти з’їси від нього, смертю помреш. | but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil—of it ye shall not eat, but in whatsoever day ye eat of it, ye shall surely die. |

|
| І сказав Господь Бог: не добре бути чоловікові одному; створімо йому помічника, за його подобою. | And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone, let us make for him a help suitable to him. |
|

|
| Господь Бог створив із землі всіх тварин польових і всіх птахів небесних, і привів [їх] до людини, щоб бачити, як вона назве їх, і щоб, як назве людина всяку душу живу, так і було ім’я їй. | And God formed yet farther out of the earth all the wild beasts of the field, and all the birds of the sky, and he brought them to Adam, to see what he would call them, and whatever Adam called any living creature, that was the name of it. |

| І нарекла людина імена всій худобі і птахам небесним і всім звірам польовим; але для чоловіка не знайшлося помічника, подібного до нього. | And Adam gave names to all the cattle and to all the birds of the sky, and to all the wild beasts of the field, but for Adam there was not found a help like to himself. |

| І навів Господь Бог на чоловіка міцний сон; і, коли він заснув, узяв одне з ребер його, і закрив те місце плоттю. | And God brought a trance upon Adam, and he slept, and he took one of his ribs, and filled up the flesh instead thereof. |

| І створив Господь Бог з ребра, яке взяв у чоловіка, жінку, і привів її до чоловіка. | And God formed the rib which he took from Adam into a woman, and brought her to Adam. |
|

|
| І сказав чоловік: ось, це кістка від кісток моїх і плоть від плоті моєї; вона буде зватися жінкою, бо взята від чоловіка [свого]. | And Adam said, This now is bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman, because she was taken out of her husband. |

|
| Тому залишить чоловік батька свого і матір свою і пристане до жінки своєї; і стануть [два] однією плоттю. | Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother and shall cleave to his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. |
|

|
| І були вони обоє нагі, Адам і дружина його, і не соромилися. | And the two were naked, both Adam and his wife, and were not ashamed. |
