| Бог сказав Якову: встань, піди у Вефиль і живи там, і зроби там жертовник Богу, Який явився тобі, коли ти тікав від лиця Ісава, брата твого. | And God said to Jacob, Arise, go up to the place, Bæthel, and dwell there; and make there an altar to the God that appeared to thee, when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother. |

| І сказав Яків дому своєму і всім, хто був з ним: киньте богів чужих, що знаходяться у вас, і очистіться, і перемініть одяг ваш; | And Jacob said to his house, and to all that were with him, Remove the strange gods that are with you from the midst of you, and purify yourselves, and change your clothes. |

| встанемо і підемо у Вефиль; там влаштую я жертовник Богу, Який почув мене в день біди моєї і був зі мною [й оберігав мене] в путі, якою я ходив. | And let us rise and go up to Bæthel, and let us there make an altar to God who hearkened to me in the day of calamity, who was with me, and preserved me throughout in the journey, by which I went. |

| І віддали Якову всіх богів чужих, що були в руках їх, і серги, що були у вухах їхніх, і закопав їх Яків під дубом, який поблизу Сихема. [І залишив їх невідомими навіть до нинішнього дня.] | And they gave to Jacob the strange gods, which were in their hands, and the ear-rings which were in their ears, and Jacob hid them under the turpentine tree which is in Secima, and destroyed them to this day. |

| І вирушили вони [від Сихема]. І був жах Божий на навколишніх містах, і не переслідували синів Яковових. | So Israel departed from Secima, and the fear of God was upon the cities round about them, and they did not pursue after the children of Israel. |
|

| І прийшов Яків у Луз, що в землі Ханаанській, тобто у Вефиль, сам і всі люди, що були з ним, | And Jacob came to Luza, which is in the land of Chanaan, which is Bæthel, he and all the people that were with him. |
|

|
| і влаштував там жертовник, і назвав це місце: Ел-Вефиль, бо тут явився йому Бог, коли він тікав від лиця [Ісава] брата свого. | And he built there an altar, and called the name of the place Bæthel; for there God appeared to him, when he fled from the face of his brother Esau. |
|

|
| І померла Девора, годувальниця Ревеккина, і поховали її нижче Вефиля під дубом, який і назвав Яків дубом плачу. | And Deborrha, Rebecca's nurse, died, and was buried below Bæthel under the oak; and Jacob called its name, The Oak of Mourning. |
|

| І явився Бог Якову [в Лузі] після повернення його з Месопотамії, і благословив його, | And God appeared to Jacob once more in Luza, when he came out of Mesopotamia of Syria, and God blessed him. |
|

| і сказав йому Бог: ім’я твоє Яків; відтепер ти не будеш називатися Яковом, але буде ім’я твоє: Ізраїль. І нарік йому ім’я: Ізраїль. | And God said to him, Thy name shall not be called Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name; and he called his name Israel. |

| І сказав йому Бог: Я Бог Всемогутній; плодись й розмножуйся; народ і безліч народів буде від тебе, і царі народяться із лона твого; | And God said to him, I am thy God; increase and multiply; for nations and gatherings of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins. |

| землю, яку Я дав Аврааму й Ісааку, Я дам тобі, і нащадкам твоїм після тебе дам землю цю. | And the land which I gave to Abraam and Isaac, I have given it to thee; and it shall come to pass that I will give this land also to thy seed after thee. |

| І відійшов від нього Бог з місця, на якому говорив йому. | And God went up from him from the place where he spoke with him. |
|

| І поставив Яків пам’ятник на місці, на якому говорив йому [Бог], пам’ятник кам’яний, і злив на нього узливання, і злив на нього єлей; | And Jacob set up a pillar in the place where God spoke with him, even a pillar of stone; and offered a libation upon it, and poured oil upon it. |

| і нарік Яків ім’я місцю, на якому Бог говорив йому: Вефиль. | And Jacob called the name of the place in which God spoke with him, Bæthel. |

|
| І вирушили з Вефиля. [І розкинув він намет свій за вежею Гадер.] І коли ще залишалася деяка відстань землі до Ефрафи, Рахиль народила, і пологи її були тяжкими. | And Jacob removed from Bæthel, and pitched his tent beyond the tower of Gader, and it came to pass when he drew nigh to Chabratha, to enter into Ephratha, Rachel travailed; and in her travail she was in hard labour. |

| Коли ж вона страждала в пологах, повитуха сказала їй: не бійся, бо і це тобі син. | And it came to pass in her hard labour, that the midwife said to her, Be of good courage, for thou shalt also have this son. |
|

| І коли виходила з неї душа, бо вона вмирала, то нарекла йому ім’я: Беноні. Але батько його назвав його Веніаміном. | And it came to pass in her giving up the ghost (for she was dying), that she called his name, The son of my pain; but his father called his name Benjamin. |

|
| І вмерла Рахиль, і похована була по дорозі у Ефрафу, тобто Вифлеєм. | So Rachel died, and was buried in the way of the course of Ephratha, this is Bethleem. |
|

|
| Яків поставив над гробом її пам’ятник. Це надгробний пам’ятник Рахилі до цього дня. | And Jacob set up a pillar on her tomb; this is the pillar on the tomb of Rachel, until this day. |
|

|
| І вирушив [звідти] Ізраїль і розкинув намет свій за вежею Гадер. | |

|
| Під час перебування Ізраїля в тій країні, Рувим пішов і переспав з Валлою, наложницею батька свого [Якова]. І почув Ізраїль [і прийняв це зі смутком]. Синів же в Якова було дванадцять. | And it came to pass when Israel dwelt in that land, that Ruben went and lay with Balla, the concubine of his father Jacob; and Israel heard, and the thing appeared grievous before him. And the sons of Jacob were twelve. |

| Сини Лії: первісток Якова Рувим, після нього Симеон, Левій, Іуда, Іссахар і Завулон. | The sons of Lea, the first-born of Jacob; Ruben, Symeon, Levi, Judas, Issachar, Zabulon. |

| Сини Рахилі: Йосиф і Веніамін. | And the sons of Rachel; Joseph and Benjamin. |
|

|
| Сини Валли, служниці Рахилиної: Дан і Неффалим. | And the sons of Balla, the hand-maid of Rachel; Dan and Nephthalim. |
|

|
| Сини Зелфи, служниці Ліїної: Гад і Асир. Ці сини Якова, які народилися йому в Месопотамії. | And the sons of Zelpha, the hand-maid of Lea; Gad and Aser. These are the sons of Jacob, which were born to him in Mesopotamia of Syria. |

| І прийшов Яків до Ісаака, батька свого, [бо він був ще живий,] у Мамре, у Кириаф-Арбу, тобто Хеврон [у землі Ханаанській,] де подорожували Авраам та Ісаак. | And Jacob came to Isaac his father to Mambre, to a city of the plain; this is Chebron in the land of Chanaan, where Abraam and Isaac sojourned. |

| І було днів [життя] Ісаакового сто вісімдесят років. | And the days of Isaac which he lived were an hundred and eighty years. |

|
| І спустив Ісаак дух і помер, і приєднався до народу свого, будучи старим і насиченим життям; і поховали його Ісав і Яків, сини його. | And Isaac gave up the ghost and died, and was laid to his family, old and full of days; and Esau and Jacob his sons buried him. |
