|
| Не ревнуй злим людям і не бажай бути з ними, | My son, envy not bad men, nor desire to be with them. |
|

|
| тому що про насильство помишляє серце їх, і про зле говорять вуста їхні. | For their heart meditates falsehoods, and their lips speak mischiefs. |
|

|

|
| Мудрістю влаштовується дім і розумом утверджується, | A house is built by wisdom, and is set up by understanding. |
|

|
| і з умінням наповнюється він усередині всяким дорогоцінним і прекрасним майном. | By discretion the chambers are filled with all precious and excellent wealth. |
|

|
| Людина мудра сильна, і людина розумна зміцнює силу свою. | A wise man is better than a strong man; and a man who has prudence than a large estate. |
|

|
| Тому обдумано веди війну твою, і успіх буде при багатьох нарадах. | War is carried on with generalship, and aid is supplied to the heart of a counsellor. |
|

|
| Для нерозумного занадто високою є мудрість; біля воріт не відкриє він уст своїх. | Wisdom and good understanding are in the gates of the wise: the wise turn not aside from the mouth of the Lord, |

|
| Хто замишляє зробити зло, того називають зловмисником. | but deliberate in council. Death befalls uninstructed men. |
|

|
| Помисел глупоти — гріх, і кощунник — мерзота для людей. | The fool also dies in sins; and uncleanness attaches to a pestilent man. |
|

|
| Якщо ти в день нещастя виявився слабким, то бідна сила твоя. | He shall be defiled in the evil day, and in the day of affliction, until he be utterly consumed. |
|

|
| Рятуй узятих на смерть, і невже відмовишся від приречених на убиття? | Deliver them that are led away to death, and redeem them that are appointed to be slain; spare not thy help. |
|

|
| Чи скажеш: «ось, ми не знали цього»? А Той, Хто випробовує серця, хіба не знає? Той, Хто спостерігає за душею твоєю, знає це, і воздасть людині за ділами її. | But if thou shouldest say, I know not this man; know that the Lord knows the hearts of all; and he that formed breath for all, he knows all things, who renders to every man according to his works. |

| Їж, сину мій, мед, тому що він приємний, і стільник, який солодкий для гортані твоєї: | My son, eat honey, for the honeycomb is good, that thy throat may be sweetened. |
|

|
| таке і пізнання мудрости для душі твоєї. Якщо ти знайшов її, тобто майбутнє, і надія твоя не втрачена. | Thus shalt thou perceive wisdom in thy soul: for if thou find it, thine end shall be good, and hope shall not fail thee. |
|

|
| Не замислюй зла, нечестивий, проти житла праведника, не спустошуй місця спокою його, | Bring not an ungodly man into the dwelling of the righteous: neither be deceived by the feeding of the belly. |
|

|
| бо сім разів упаде праведник, і встане; а нечестиві впадуть у погибель. | For a righteous man will fall seven times, and rise again: but the ungodly shall be without strength in troubles. |
|

|
| Не радій, коли упаде ворог твій, і нехай не веселиться серце твоє, коли він спіткнеться. | If thine enemy should fall, rejoice not over him, neither be elated at his overthrow. |
|

|
| Інакше, побачить Господь, і неугодне буде це в очах Його, і Він відверне від нього гнів Свій. | For the Lord will see it, and it will not please him, and he will turn away his wrath from him. |
|

|
| Не обурюйся на злодіїв і не заздри нечестивим, | Rejoice not in evil-doers, neither be envious of sinners. |
|

|
| тому що злий не має майбуття, — світильник нечестивих погасне. | For the evil man shall have no posterity: and the light of the wicked shall be put out. |
|

|
| Бійся, сину мій, Господа і царя; із заколотниками не спілкуйся, | My son, fear God and the king; and do not disobey either of them. |
|

|
| тому що несподівано прийде погибель від них, і біду від них обох хто передбачить? | For they will suddenly punish the ungodly, and who can know the vengeance inflicted by both? |
|

|
| Сказано також мудрими: мати упередженість на суді — недобре. | And this thing I say to you that are wise for you to learn: It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment. |
|

|
| Хто говорить винному: «ти правий», того будуть проклинати народи, того будуть ненавидіти племена; | He that says of the ungodly, He is righteous, shall be cursed by peoples, and hateful among the nations. |
|

|
| а викривачів будуть любити, і на них прийде благословення. | But they that reprove him shall appear more excellent, and blessing shall come upon them; |
|

|
| В уста цілує той, хто відповідає словами вірними. | and men will kiss lips that answer well. |
|

|
27
|
| Зверши справи твої поза домом, закінчи їх на полі твоєму, і потім облаштовуй і дім твій. | Prepare thy works for thy going forth, and prepare thyself for the field; and come after me, and thou shalt rebuild thine house. |
|

|
| Не будь лжесвідком на ближнього твого: для чого тобі обманювати вустами твоїми? | Be not a false witness against thy fellow citizen, neither exaggerate with thy lips. |
|

|
| Не говори: «як він вчинив зі мною, так і я зроблю з ним, воздам людині за ділами її». | Say not, As he has treated me, so will I treat him, and I will avenge myself on him for that wherein he has injured me. |
|

| Проходив я мимо поля чоловіка лінивого і мимо виноградника чоловіка бідного на розум: | A foolish man is like a farm, and a senseless man is like a vineyard. |
|

| і ось, усе це заросло терням, поверхня його вкрилася кропивою, і кам’яна огорожа його зруйнувалася. | If thou let him alone, he will altogether remain barren and covered with weeds; and he becomes destitute, and his stone walls are broken down. |
|

| І подивився я, і взяв до серця свого, і подивився й отримав урок: | Afterwards I reflected, I looked that I might receive instruction. |
|

| «трохи поспиш, трохи подрімаєш, трохи, склавши руки, полежиш, — | The sluggard says, I slumber a little, and I sleep a little, and for a little while I fold my arms across my breast. |
|

|
| і прийде, як перехожий, бідність твоя, і нестаток твій — як людина озброєна». | But if thou do this, thy poverty will come speedily; and thy want like a swift courier. |
