| Сину мій! дослухайся до мудрости моєї, і прихили вухо твоє до розуму мого, | My son, attend to my wisdom, and apply thine ear to my words; |

| щоб дотриматися розсудливости, і щоб вуста твої зберегли знання. [Не слухай улесливої жінки;] | that thou mayest keep good understanding, and the discretion of my lips gives thee a charge. Give no heed to a worthless woman; |
|

|
| тому що мед виливають вуста чужої дружини, і м’якша за єлей мова її; | for honey drops from the lips of a harlot, who for a season pleases thy palate: |
|

|
| але наслідки від неї гіркі, як полинь, гострі, як меч двогострий; | but afterwards thou wilt find her more bitter than gall, and sharper than a two-edged sword. |
|

|
| ноги її сходять до смерти, стопи її досягають пекла. | For the feet of folly lead those who deal with her down to the grave with death; and her steps are not established. |
|

|
| Якби ти захотів осягнути стежку життя її, то путі її непостійні, і ти не узнаєш їх. | For she goes not upon the paths of life; but her ways are slippery, and not easily known. |
|

|
| Отже, діти, слухайте мене і не відступайте від слів уст моїх. | Now then, my son, hear me, and make not my words of none effect. |
|

|
| Тримай далі від неї путь твою і не підходь близько до дверей дому її, | Remove thy way far from her; draw not near to the doors of her house: |
|

|
| щоб здоров’я твого не віддати іншим і років твоїх мучителеві; | lest thou give away thy life to others, and thy substance to the merciless: |
|

|

|
| щоб не насичувалися силою твоєю чужі, і труди твої не були для чужого дому. | lest strangers be filled with thy strength, and thy labours come into the houses of strangers; |
|

|
| І ти будеш стогнати після, коли плоть твоя і тіло твоє будуть виснажені, — | and thou repent at last, when the flesh of thy body is consumed, |
|

|
| і скажеш: «навіщо я ненавидів наставляння, і серце моє зневажало викривання, | and thou shalt say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart avoided reproofs! |
|

|
| і я не слухав голоси вчителів моїх, не прихиляв вуха мого до наставників моїх: | I heard not the voice of him that instructed me, and taught me, neither did I apply mine ear. |
|

|
| ледь не впав я у всяке зло серед зібрання і суспільства!» | I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly. |
|

|
| Пий воду з твоєї водойми і ту, яка тече з твого колодязя. | Drink waters out of thine own vessels, and out of thine own springing wells. |
|

|
| Нехай [не] розливаються джерела твої по вулиці, потоки вод — по площах; | Let not waters out of thy fountain be spilt by thee, but let thy waters go into thy streets. |
|

|
| нехай вони будуть належати тобі одному, а не чужим з тобою. | Let them be only thine own, and let no stranger partake with thee. |
|

|
| Джерело твоє нехай буде благословенним; і утішайся дружиною юности твоєї, | Let thy fountain of water be truly thine own; and rejoice with the wife of thy youth. |
|

|
| улюбленою ланню і прекрасною сарною: груди її нехай напувають тебе повсякчас, любов’ю її насолоджуйся постійно. | Let thy loving hart and thy graceful colt company with thee, and let her be considered thine own, and be with thee at all times; for ravished with her love thou shalt be greatly increased. |

| І для чого тобі, сину мій, захоплюватися сторонньою й обіймати груди чужої? | Be not intimate with a strange woman, neither fold thyself in the arms of a woman not thine own. |
|

|
| Бо перед очима Господа путі людини, і Він вимірює всі стежки її. | For the ways of a man are before the eyes of God, and he looks on all his paths. |
|

|
| Беззаконного уловлюють власні беззаконня його, і в кайданах гріха свого він утримується: | Iniquities ensnare a man, and every one is bound in the chains of his own sins. |
|

|
| він помирає без наставляння, і від великого безумства свого губиться. | Such a man dies with the uninstructed; and he is cast forth from the abundance of his own substance, and has perished through folly. |
