Так! у срібла є джерельна жила, й у золота місце, де його плавлять.

For there is a place for the silver, whence it comes, and a place for the gold, whence it is refined.
|

Залізо виробляється із землі; з каменю виплавляється мідь.
|
For iron comes out of the earth, and brass is hewn out like stone.
|

|
Людина кладе межу темряві і ретельно розшукує камінь у мороці і тіні смертній.
|
He has set a bound to darkness, and he searches out every limit: a stone is darkness, and the shadow of death.
|

|
|
Виконують рудокопний колодязь у місцях, де не ступала нога, спускаються в глибину, висять і колишуться далеко від людей.
|
There is a cutting off of the torrent by reason of dust: so they that forget the right way are weakened; they are removed from among men.
|

|
|
Земля, на якій виростає хліб, всередині розрита, неначе вогнем.
|
As for the earth, out of it shall come bread: under it has been turned up as it were fire.
|
|

|
|
Камені її — місце сапфіра, і в ній піщинки золота.
|
Her stones are the place of the sapphire: and her dust supplies man with gold.
|
|

|
|
Стежки туди не знає хижий птах, і не бачило її око шуліки;
|
There is a path, the fowl has not known it, neither has the eye of the vulture seen it:
|
|

|
|
не топтали її скимни, і не ходив по ній шакал.
|
neither have the sons of the proud trodden it, a lion has not passed upon it.
|
|

|
|
На граніт накладає вона (людина) руку свою, з коренем перевертає гори;
|
He has stretched forth his hand on the sharp rock, and turned up mountains by the roots:
|

|
|
у скелях просікає канали, і все дорогоцінне бачить око її;
|
and he has interrupted the whirlpools of rivers, and mine eye has seen every precious thing.
|
|

|
|
зупиняє плин потоків і таємне виносить на світло.
|
And he has laid bare the depths of rivers, and has brought his power to light.
|
|

|
|
Але де премудрість знаходиться? і де місце розуму?
|
But whence has wisdom been discovered? and what is the place of knowledge?
|
|

|
|
Не знає людина ціни її, і вона не знаходиться на землі живих.
|
A mortal has not known its way, neither indeed has it been discovered among men.
|
|

|

|
|
Безодня говорить: не у мені вона; і море говорить: не в мене.
|
The depth said, It is not in me: and the sea said, It is not with me.
|
|

|
15
|
|
Не дається вона за золото і не здобувається вона за вагу срібла;
|
One shall not give fine gold instead of it, neither shall silver be weighed in exchange for it.
|
|

|
|
не оцінюється вона золотом офірським, ні дорогоцінним оніксом, ні сапфіром;
|
Neither shall it be compared with gold of Sophir, with the precious onyx and sapphire.
|
|

|
|
не зрівнюється з нею золото і кристал, і не виміняєш її на сосуди з чистого золота.
|
Gold and crystal shall not be equalled to it, neither shall vessels of gold be its exchange.
|
|

|
|
А про корали і перли і згадувати нема чого, і придбання премудрости вище за рубіни.
|
Coral and fine pearl shall not be mentioned: but do thou esteem wisdom above the most precious things.
|
|

|
|
Не зрівнюється з нею топаз ефіопський; чистим золотом не оцінюється вона.
|
The topaz of Ethiopia shall not be equalled to it; it shall not be compared with pure gold.
|
|

|
|
Звідки ж виходить премудрість? і де місце розуму?
|
Whence then is wisdom found? and of what kind is the place of understanding?
|
|

|
|
Прихована вона від очей усього живого і від птахів небесних утаємничена.
|
It has escaped the notice of every man, and has been hidden from the birds of the sky.
|
|

|

|
|
Аваддон і смерть говорять: вухами нашими чули ми чутку про неї.
|
Destruction and Death said, We have heard the report of it.
|
|

|
|
Бог знає путь її, і Він відає місце її.
|
God has well ordered the way of it, and he knows the place of it.
|
|
24
|

|
|
Бо Він проглядає до кінців землі і бачить під усім небом.
|
For he surveys the whole earth under heaven, knowing the things in the earth:
|

|
|
Коли Він вітрові визначав вагу і воді надавав міру,
|
all that he has made; the weight of the winds, the measures of the water.
|
|

|

|
|
коли призначав закон дощу і путь для блискавки громоносної,
|
When he made them, thus he saw and numbered them, and made a way for the pealing of the thunder.
|
|

|
27
|
|
тоді Він бачив її і явив її, приготував її і ще випробував її
|
Then he saw it, and declared it: he prepared it and traced it out.
|
|
28
|
28
|
|
і сказав людині: ось, страх Господній є істинна премудрість, і віддалення від зла — розум.
|
And he said to man, Behold, godliness is wisdom; and to abstain from evil is understanding.
|
