| І повстав Ілля пророк, як вогонь, і слово його горіло, як світильник. | Then stood up Elias the prophet as fire, and his word burned like a lamp. |

| Він навів на них голод і ревністю своєю зменшив число їх; | He brought a sore famine upon them, and by his zeal he diminished their number. |

|
| словом Господнім він закрив небо і тричі зводив вогонь. | By the word of the Lord he shut up the heaven, and also three times brought down fire. |
|

|
| Як прославився ти, Іллє, чудесами твоїми, і хто може зрівнятися з тобою у славі! | O Elias, how wast thou honoured in thy wondrous deeds! and who may glory like unto thee! |
|

|
| Ти воскресив мертвого від смерти і з пекла словом Всевишнього; | Who didst raise up a dead man from death, and his soul from the place of the dead, by the word of the most High: |

|
| ти зводив у загибель царів і знатних з ложа їх; | who broughtest kings to destruction, and honourable men from their bed: |

|
| ти чув на Синаї викриття їх і на Хориві суди помсти; | who heardest the rebuke of the Lord in Sinai, and in Horeb the judgment of vengeance: |

|
| ти помазав царів на воздаяння і пророків — у спадкоємці собі; | who anointedst kings to take revenge, and prophets to succeed after him: |

|
| ти захоплений був вогненним вихором на колісниці з вогненними конями; | who wast taken up in a whirlwind of fire, and in a chariot of fiery horses: |

|
| ти призначений був на викриття у свої часи, щоб утихомирити гнів, раніше ніж перейде він у лють, — навернути серце батька до сина і відновити коліна Якова. | who wast ordained for reproofs in their times, to pacify the wrath of the Lord's judgment, before it brake forth into fury, and to turn the heart of the father unto the son, and to restore the tribes of Jacob. |

| Блаженні ті, що бачили тебе і прикрашені любов’ю, — і ми життям поживемо. | Blessed are they that saw thee, and slept in love; for we shall surely live. |
|

|
| Ілля схований був вихором, — і Єлисей сповнився духом його | Elias it was, who was covered with a whirlwind; and Eliseus was filled with his spirit: whilst he lived, he was not moved with the presence of any prince, neither could any bring him into subjection. |

|
| й у дні свої не тремтів перед князем, і ніхто не пересилив його; | No word could overcome him; and after his death his body prophesied. |

|
| ніщо не здолало його, і після успіння його пророкувало тіло його. | He did wonders in his life, and at his death were his works marvellous. |
|

|
| І за життя свого творив він чудеса, і після смерти дивні були діла його. | For all this the people repented not, neither departed they from their sins, till they were spoiled and carried out of their land, and were scattered through all the earth: yet there remained a small people, and a ruler in the house of David: |

| Попри все те, народ не покаявся, і не відступили від гріхів своїх, доки не були полонені із землі своєї і розсіяні по всій землі. | of whom some did that which was pleasing to God, and some multiplied sins. |

| І залишилося дуже мало народу і князь із дому Давидового. | Ezekias fortified his city, and brought in water into the midst thereof: he digged the hard rock with iron, and made wells for waters. |
|

|
| Деякі з них робили угодне Богу, а деякі примножували гріхи. | In his time Sennacherib came up, and sent Rabsaces, and lifted up his hand against Sion, and boasted proudly. |

|
| Єзекія зміцнив місто своє і провів усередину його воду, пробив залізом скелю й улаштував сховища для води. | Then trembled their hearts and hands, and they were in pain, as women in travail. |
|

|
| У дні його зробив навалу Сеннахирим і послав до нього Рабсака, який підняв руку свою на Сион і дуже величався у гордості своїй. | But they called upon the Lord who is merciful, and stretched out their hands toward him: and immediately the Holy One heard them out of heaven, and delivered them by the ministry of Esay. |

| Тоді затремтіли серця і руки їх, і вони мучилися, як ті, що народжують; | He smote the host of the Assyrians, and his angel destroyed them. |

|
| і воззвали вони до Господа милосердного, простягнувши до Нього руки свої, | For Ezekias had done the thing that pleased the Lord, and was strong in the ways of David his father, as Esay the prophet, who was great and faithful in his vision, had commanded him. |
|

|
| і Святий скоро почув їх з неба і визволив їх рукою Ісаї; | In his time the sun went backward, and he lengthened the king's life. |
|

|
| Він уразив військо ассиріян, і ангел Його знищив їх, | He saw by an excellent spirit what should come to pass at the last, and he comforted them that mourned in Sion. |
|

|

|
| бо Єзекія робив угодне Господу і міцно тримався шляхів Давида, батька свого, як заповів пророк Ісая, великий і вірний у видіннях своїх. | He shewed what should come to pass for ever, and secret things or ever they came. |
|

|
|
| У його дні сонце відступило назад, і він додав життя цареві. | |
|
27
|
|
| Великим духом своїм він передбачив віддалене майбутнє і втішав тих, що тужили у Сионі; | |
|
28
|
|
| до віку сповіщав він майбутнє і потаємне, раніше, ніж воно сповнилося. |
