| Шануй лікаря честю заради потреби у ньому, бо Господь створив його, | Honour a physician with the honour due unto him for the uses which ye may have of him: for the Lord hath created him. |

|
| і від Вишнього — зцілення, і від царя одержує він дар. | For of the most High cometh healing, and he shall receive honour of the king. |
|

|
3
|
| Знання лікаря піднесе його голову, і між вельможами він буде у пошані. | The skill of the physician shall lift up his head: and in the sight of great men he shall be in admiration. |
|

4
|
| Господь створив із землі зцілення, і розсудлива людина не буде зневажати їх. | The Lord hath created medicines out of the earth; and he that is wise will not abhor them. |
|

|
5
|
| Чи не від дерева вода зробилася солодкою, щоб пізнана була сила Його? | Was not the water made sweet with wood, that the virtue thereof might be known? |
|

|
| Для того Він і дав людям знання, щоб прославляли Його у дивних ділах Його: | And he hath given men skill, that he might be honoured in his marvellous works. |
|

|
| ними він зціляє людину і знищує хворобу її. | With such doth he heal men, and taketh away their pains. |
|

|
8
|
| Той, хто готує ліки, робить з них суміш, і заняття його не закінчуються, і через нього буває благо на лиці землі. | Of such doth the apothecary make a confection; and of his works there is no end; and from him is peace over all the earth. |

|
| Сину мій! у хворобі твоїй не будь недбалий, але молися Господу, і Він зцілить тебе. | My son, in thy sickness be not negligent: but pray unto the Lord, and he will make thee whole. |
|

|
| Залиш гріховне життя і виправи руки твої, і від усякого гріха очисти серце. | Leave off from sin, and order thine hands aright, and cleanse thy heart from all wickedness. |
|

|
| Вознеси пахощі й із семидала пам’ятну жертву і зроби приношення повне, ніби ти уже помираєш; | Give a sweet savour, and a memorial of fine flour; and make a fat offering, as not being. |
|

|
| і дай місце лікареві, бо і його створив Господь, і нехай не віддаляється він від тебе, бо він потрібен. | Then give place to the physician, for the Lord hath created him: let him not go from thee, for thou hast need of him. |
|

|
| У якийсь час і в їхніх руках буває успіх; | There is a time when in their hands there is good success. |
|
14
|
14
|
| бо і вони моляться Господу, щоб Він допоміг їм подати хворому полегшення і зцілення для продовження життя. | For they shall also pray unto the Lord, that he would prosper that which they give for ease and remedy to prolong life. |
|

|
15
|
| Але хто грішить перед Творцем його, нехай упаде у руки лікаря! | He that sinneth before his Maker, let him fall into the hand of the physician. |
|

|
| Сину мій! над померлим пролий сльози і, ніби ти зазнав жорстокого нещастя, почни плач; пристойно одягни тіло його і не зневаж поховання його; | My son, let tears fall down over the dead, and begin to lament, as if thou hadst suffered great harm thyself; and then cover his body according to the custom, and neglect not his burial. |

| гіркий нехай буде плач і ридання тепле, і продовж сумування за ним, за достоїнством його, день або два, щоб запобігти осуду, і тоді втішся від суму; | Weep bitterly, and make great moan, and use lamentation, as he is worthy, and that a day or two, lest thou be evil spoken of: and then comfort thyself for thy heaviness; |

| бо від суму буває смерть, і сум сердечний виснажить силу. | for of heaviness cometh death, and the heaviness of the heart breaketh strength. |

|
| З нещастям перебуває і сум, і життя убогого важке для серця. | In affliction also sorrow remaineth: and the life of the poor is the curse of the heart. |
|

|
| Не віддавай серця твого суму; віддаляй його від себе, згадуючи про кінець. | Take no heaviness to heart: drive it away, and remember the last end. |
|

|
| Не забувай про це, бо немає повернення; і йому ти не принесеш користи, а собі зашкодиш. | Forget him not, for there is no turning again: thou shalt not do him good, but hurt thyself. |
|

|
| «Згадуй про вирок наді мною, тому що він також і над тобою: мені учора, а тобі сьогодні». | Remember his judgment: for thine also shall be so; yesterday for me, and to day for thee. |

|
| З упокоєнням померлого заспокой і пам’ять про нього, й утішся про нього після відходу душі його. | When the dead is at rest, let his remembrance rest; and be comforted for him when his spirit is departed from him. |
|

|
| Мудрість книжна здобувається у сприятливий час дозвілля, і хто мало має своїх занять, може придбати мудрість. | The wisdom of a learned man cometh by opportunity of leisure: and he that hath little business shall become wise. |
|

|
| Як може зробитися мудрим той, хто править плугом і хвалиться бичем, ганяє волів і зайнятий роботами їх, і у якого розмова тільки про молодих волів? | How can he get wisdom that holdeth the plough, and that glorieth in the goad, that driveth oxen, and is occupied in their labours, and whose talk is of bullocks? |

| Серце його зайняте тим, щоб проводити борозни, і турбота його — про корм для телиць. | He giveth his mind to make furrows; and is diligent to give the kine fodder. |
|

|
| Так і усякий тесля і зодчий, що проводить ніч, як день: хто займається різьбленням, того старанність у тім, щоб урізноманітнити форму; | So every carpenter and workmaster, that laboureth night and day: and they that cut and grave seals, and are diligent to make great variety, and give themselves to counterfeit imagery, and watch to finish a work: |

| серце своє він спрямовує на те, щоб зображення було схоже, і турбота його — про те, щоб закінчити діло у досконалості. | The smith also sitting by the anvil, and considering the iron work, the vapour of the fire wasteth his flesh, and he fighteth with the heat of the furnace: the noise of the hammer and the anvil is ever in his ears, and his eyes look still upon the pattern of the thing that he maketh; he setteth his mind to finish his work, and watcheth to polish it perfectly: |

| Так і ковач, який сидить біля ковадла і думає про виріб із заліза: дим від вогню виснажує його тіло, і з жаром від печі бореться він; | So doth the potter sitting at his work, and turning the wheel about with his feet, who is alway carefully set at his work, and maketh all his work by number; |

|
| звук молота оглушає його слух, і очі його спрямовані на модель посудини; | he fashioneth the clay with his arm, and boweth down his strength before his feet; he applieth himself to lead it over; and he is diligent to make clean the furnace: |

|
| серце його спрямоване на закінчення діла, і турбота його — про те, щоб обробити його у досконалості. | all these trust to their hands; and every one is wise in his work. |

|
| Так і гончар, який сидить над своєю справою і ногами своїми крутить колесо, | Without these cannot a city be inhabited: and they shall not dwell where they will, nor go up and down: |
|

|
| який постійно в турботі про справу свою, і у якого обчислена вся робота його: | they shall not be sought for in public counsel, nor sit high in the congregation: they shall not sit on the judges' seat, nor understand the sentence of judgment: they cannot declare justice and judgment; and they shall not be found where parables are spoken. |

|
| рукою своєю він надає форму глині, а ногами пом’якшує її жорсткість; | But they will maintain the state of the world, and all their desire is in the work of their craft. But he that giveth his mind to the law of the most High, and is occupied in the meditation thereof, |
|

|
| він спрямовує серце до того, щоб добре закінчити посудину, і турбота його — про те, щоб очистити піч. | |
|

|
|
| Усі вони покладаються на свої руки, і кожен умудрюється у своїй справі; | |
|
37
|
|
| без них ні місто не побудується, ні жителі не населяться і не будуть жити в ньому; | |
|
38
|
|
| і однак же вони у зібрання не запрошуються, на судійському сідалищі не сидять і не розмірковують про судові постанови, не вимовляють виправдання й засудження і не займаються притчами; | |
|
39
|
|
| але підтримують побут житейський, і молитва їх — про успіх мистецтва їх. |
