| Усе взагалі створив Той, Хто живе повіки; Господь один праведний. | He that liveth for ever created all things in general. |

| Нікому не надав Він пояснювати Його. | The Lord only is righteous. |
|

| І хто може дослідити великі Його? | |
|

|

|
| Хто може виміряти силу величі Його? і хто може також проректи милості Його? | To none hath he given power to declare his works; and who shall find out his noble acts? |
|

|
| Неможливо ні применшити, ні збільшити, і неможливо дослідити дивні діла Господа. | Who shall number the strength of his majesty? and who shall also tell out his mercies? |
|

|
| Коли людина закінчила б, тоді вона тільки починає, і коли перестане, прийде у здивування. | As for the wondrous works of the Lord, there may nothing be taken from them, neither may any thing be put unto them, neither can the ground of them be found out. |

| Що є людина і що користь її? що благо її і що зло її? | When a man hath done, then he beginneth; and when he leaveth off, then he shall be doubtful. |
|

|
| Число днів людини — багато, якщо сто років: як крапля води з моря або дрібка піску, так малі літа її у дні вічности. | What is man, and whereto serveth he; what is his good, and what is his evil? |
|

|
| Тому Господь довготерпеливий до людей і виливає на них милість Свою. | The number of a man's days at the most is an hundred years. |
|

|
| Він бачить і знає, що кінець їх дуже тяжкий, | As a drop of water unto the sea, and a gravel-stone in comparison of the sand; so are a thousand years to the days of eternity. |

|
| і тому примножує милості Свої. | Therefore is God patient with them, and poureth forth his mercy upon them. |

|
| Милість людини — до ближнього її, а милість Господа — на всяку плоть. | He saw and perceived their end to be evil; therefore he multiplied his compassion. |
|

|
| Він викриває і напоумляє, і повчає і навертає, як пастир стадо своє. | The mercy of man is toward his neighbour; but the mercy of the Lord is upon all flesh: he reproveth, and nurtureth, and teacheth, and bringeth again, as a shepherd his flock. |

|
| Він милує тих, хто приймає напоумлення і ревно навертається до закону Його. | He hath mercy on them that receive discipline, and that diligently seek after his judgments. |
|

|
| Сину мій! при благодійності не роби докорів, і при всякому дарі не ображай словами. | My son, blemish not thy good deeds, neither use uncomfortable words when thou givest any thing. |
|

|
| Чи не прохолоджує роса спеки? так слово — краще, ніж дар. | Shall not the dew assuage the heat? so is a word better than a gift. |
|

|
| Тому чи не вище доброго дару слово? а у людині доброзичливій те й інше. | Lo, is not a word better than a gift? but both are with a gracious man. |
|

|
| Нерозумний немилосердно докоряє, і подаяння від неприхильного висушує очі. | A fool will upbraid churlishly, and a gift of the envious consumeth the eyes. |
|

|
| Перше, ніж почнеш говорити, обдумуй, і раніше хвороби турбуйся про себе. | Learn before thou speak, and use physic or ever thou be sick. |
|

|
| Випробовуй себе раніше суду, і під час відвідування знайдеш милість. | Before judgment examine thyself, and in the day of visitation thou shalt find mercy. |
|

|
| Перше, ніж відчуєш слабкість, смиряйся, і під час гріхів покажи навернення. | Humble thyself before thou be sick, and in the time of sins shew repentance. |
|

|
| Ніщо нехай не перешкоджає тобі виконати обітницю благовчасно, і не відкладай виправдання до смерти. | Let nothing hinder thee to pay thy vow in due time, and defer not until death to be justified. |
|

|
| Перше, ніж почнеш молитися, приготуй себе, і не будь як людина, яка спокушає Господа. | Before thou prayest, prepare thyself; and be not as one that tempteth the Lord. |
|

|
| Пригадуй про гнів у день смерти і про час помсти, коли Господь відверне лице Своє. | Think upon the wrath that shall be at the end, and the time of vengeance, when he shall turn away his face. |
|

|
| Під час ситости згадуй про час голоду, й у дні багатства — про бідність і нестатки. | When thou hast enough, remember the time of hunger: and when thou art rich, think upon poverty and need. |
|

|
| Від ранку до вечора змінюється час, і все швидкоплинне перед Господом. | From the morning until the evening the time is changed, and all things are soon done before the Lord. |
|

|
| Людина мудра в усьому буде обережна, й у дні гріхів утримається від безтурботности. | A wise man will fear in every thing, and in the day of sinning he will beware of offence: but a fool will not observe time. |

| Усякий розумний пізнає премудрість і тому, хто знайде її, воздасть хвалу. | Every man of understanding knoweth wisdom, and will give praise unto him that found her. |
|

| Розважливі у словах і самі умудрюються, і виточують змістовні притчі. | They that had understanding in sayings became also wise themselves, and poured forth exquisite parables. |
|

|
| Не ходи услід за похотями твоїми і стримуйся від побажань твоїх. | Go not after thy lusts, but refrain thyself from thine appetites. |
|

|
| Якщо будеш доставляти душі твоїй приємне для хтивости, то вона зробить тебе потіхою для ворогів твоїх. | If thou givest thy soul the desires that please her, she will make thee a laughingstock to thine enemies that malign thee. |
|

|
| Не шукай розваги у великій розкоші і не прив’язуйся до бенкетів. | Take not pleasure in much good cheer, neither be tied to the expence thereof. |
|

|
| Не зробися жебраком, бенкетуючи на позичені гроші, коли нічого немає у тебе у гаманці. | Be not made a beggar by banqueting upon borrowing, when thou hast nothing in thy purse. |
