Трьома я прикрасилася і стала прекрасною перед Господом і людьми:

In three things I was beautified, and stood up beautiful both before God and men: the unity of brethren, the love of neighbours, a man and a wife that agree together.

|
це — однодумність між братами і любов між ближніми, і дружина і чоловік, які у згоді живуть між собою.
|
Three sorts of men my soul hateth, and I am greatly offended at their life: a poor man that is proud, a rich man that is a liar, and an old adulterer that doateth.

|
І три роди людей зненавиділа душа моя, і дуже огидне для мене життя їх:
|
If thou hast gathered nothing in thy youth, how canst thou find any thing in thine age?

|
гордовитого жебрака, неправдивого багатія і старого перелюбника, який слабшає розумом.
|
O how comely a thing is judgment for grey hairs, and for ancient men to know counsel!

|
Чого не зібрав ти в юності, — як же можеш придбати у старості твоїй?
|
O how comely is the wisdom of old men, and understanding and counsel to men of honour!

|
Як пристойно сивинам судити, і старцям — уміти давати пораду!
|
Much experience is the crown of old men, and the fear of God is their glory.
|

|
Як прекрасна мудрість старців і як личать людям поважним розсудливість і рада!
|
There be nine things which I have judged in mine heart to be happy, and the tenth I will utter with my tongue: A man that hath joy of his children; and he that liveth to see the fall of his enemy.

|
Вінець старців — багатобічна досвідченість, і хвала їх — страх Господній.
|
Well is he that dwelleth with a wife of understanding, and that hath not slipped with his tongue, and that hath not served a man more unworthy than himself.

Дев’ять помислів похвалив я у серці, а десяте висловлю язиком:

Well is he that hath found prudence, and he that speaketh in the ears of them that will hear:

|
це людина, яка радіє за дітей і за життя бачить падіння ворогів.
|
O how great is he that findeth wisdom! yet there is none above him that feareth the Lord.

|
Блаженний, хто живе з дружиною розумною, хто не грішить язиком і не служить недостойному себе.
|
But the love of the Lord passeth all things for illumination: he that holdeth it, whereto shall he be likened?
|
|

|
Блаженний, хто придбав мудрість і передає її у вуха слухачів.
|
Give me any plague, but the plague of the heart: and any wickedness, but the wickedness of a woman:
|

|
|
Який великий той, хто знайшов премудрість! але він не вищий за того, хто боїться Господа.
|
and any affliction, but the affliction from them that hate me: and any revenge, but the revenge of enemies.
|
|

|
Страх Господній усе перевершує, і хто має його, з ким може бути порівняний?
|
There is no head above the head of a serpent; and there is no wrath above the wrath of an enemy.
|
|

|
Можна перенести всяку рану, тільки не рану сердечну, і всяку злість, тільки не злість жіночу,
|
I had rather dwell with a lion and a dragon, than to keep house with a wicked woman.
|

|
усякий напад, тільки не напад від тих, що ненавидять, і всяку помсту, тільки не помсту ворогів;
|
The wickedness of a woman changeth her face, and darkeneth her countenance like sackcloth.
|

|
немає голови отруйнішої за голову змії, і немає люті сильнішої за лють ворога.
|
Her husband shall sit among his neighbours; and when he heareth it shall sigh bitterly.
|

|
Погоджуся краще жити з левом і драконом, ніж жити зі злою дружиною.
|
All wickedness is but little to the wickedness of a woman; let the portion of a sinner fall upon her.
|

|
Злість дружини змінює погляд її і робить лице її похмурим, як у ведмедя.
|
As the climbing up a sandy way is to the feet of the aged, so is a wife full of words to a quiet man.
|

|
Сяде чоловік її серед друзів своїх і, почувши про неї, гірко зітхне.
|
Stumble not at the beauty of a woman, and desire her not for pleasure.
|
|

|
Усяка злість мала у порівнянні зі злістю дружини; жереб грішника нехай упаде на неї.
|
A woman, if she maintain her husband, is full of anger, impudence, and much reproach.
|
|

|
Що сходження по піску для ніг старого, те сварлива дружина для тихого чоловіка.
|
A wicked woman abateth the courage, maketh an heavy countenance and a wounded heart: a woman that will not comfort her husband in distress maketh weak hands and feeble knees.

|
Не задивляйся на красу жіночу і не будь хтивим до дружини.
|
Of the woman came the beginning of sin, and through her we all die.
|

|
Досада, ганьба і великий сором, коли дружина буде переважати свого чоловіка.
|
Give the water no passage; neither a wicked woman liberty to gad abroad.
|
|

|
Серце зажурене й лице сумне і рана сердечна — зла дружина.
|
If she go not as thou wouldest have her, cut her off from thy flesh, and give her a bill of divorce, and let her go.
|

|
|
Опущені руки і розслаблені коліна — дружина, яка не щасливить свого чоловіка.
|
|
|

|
|
|
Від жінки початок гріха і через неї усі ми помираємо.
|
|
|
28
|
|
|
Не давай воді виходу, ні злій дружині — влади;
|
|
|
29
|
|
|
якщо вона не ходить під рукою твоєю, то відсічи її від плоті твоєї.
