| Сором батькові народження невихованого сина, дочка ж невихована народжується на приниження. | An evil-nurtured son is the dishonour of his father that begat him: and a foolish daughter is born to his loss. |

| Розумна дочка знаходить собі чоловіка, а безсоромна — печаль тому, хто її породив. | A wise daughter shall bring an inheritance to her husband: but she that liveth dishonestly is her father's heaviness. |

| Нахабна ганьбить батька і чоловіка, і в обох буде у презирстві. | She that is bold dishonoureth both her father and her husband, and they both shall despise her. |

| Невчасна розповідь — те саме, що музика під час суму; покарання ж і навчання мудрости годиться всякому часу. | A tale out of season is as music in mourning: but stripes and correction of wisdom are never out of time. |

| Легше понести пісок і сіль, і брилу заліза, ніж людину безглузду. | As timber girt and bound together in a building cannot be loosed with shaking: so the heart that is stablished by advised counsel shall fear at no time. |

| Як дерев’яна зв’язка у домі, міцно влаштована, не дає йому розпадатися при струсі, так серце, утверджене на обдуманій раді, не завагається у час страху. | A heart settled upon a thought of understanding is as a fair plaistering on the wall of a gallery. |

| Серце, утверджене на розумному міркуванні, — як ліпна прикраса на витесаній стіні. | Pales set on an high place will never stand against the wind: so a fearful heart in the imagination of a fool cannot stand against any fear. |

| Підпорка, поставлена на висоті, не встоїть проти вітру: | He that pricketh the eye will make tears to fall: and he that pricketh the heart maketh it to shew her knowledge. |

| так боязке серце, при дурному міркуванні, не устоїть проти страху. | Whoso casteth a stone at the birds frayeth them away: and he that upbraideth his friend breaketh friendship. |

| Хто наносить удар оку, викликає сльози, а хто наносить удар серцю, збуджує почуття болісне. | Though thou drewest a sword at thy friend, yet despair not: for there may be a returning to favour. |

| Хто кидає камінь у птахів, віджене їх; а хто паплюжить друга, розірве дружбу. | If thou hast opened thy mouth against thy friend, fear not; for there may be a reconciliation: except for upbraiding, or pride, or disclosing of secrets, or a treacherous wound: for for these things every friend will depart. |

| Якщо ти на друга витяг меч, не впадай у відчай, бо можливе повернення дружби. | Be faithful to thy neighbour in his poverty, that thou mayest rejoice in his prosperity: abide steadfast unto him in the time of his trouble, that thou mayest be heir with him in his heritage. |

| Якщо ти відкрив уста проти друга, не бійся, бо можливе примирення. | As the vapour and smoke of a furnace goeth before the fire; so reviling before blood. |

| Раніше полум’я буває у печі пара і дим: так раніше кровопролиття — сварки. | |

| Захищати друга я не посоромлюсь і не сховаюся від лиця його; | |

| а якщо скоїться зі мною через нього зло, то усякий, хто почує, буде остерігатися його. | |

| Хто дасть мені варту до вуст моїх і печатку розсудливости на вуста мої, щоб мені не впасти через них, і щоб язик мій не погубив мене! |
