| Усякий друг може сказати: «і я подружився з ним». Але буває друг тільки за іменем другом. | Every friend saith, I am his friend also: but there is a friend, which is only a friend in name. |

| Чи не є це скорбота до смерти, коли приятель і друг перетворюється на ворога? | Is it not a grief unto death, when a companion and friend is turned to an enemy? |

|
| О, зла думка! звідкіля взялася ти, щоб покрити землю підступністю? | O wicked imagination, whence camest thou in to cover the earth with deceit? |

|
| Приятель радіє, коли веселий друг, а під час скорботи його буде проти нього. | There is a companion, which rejoiceth in the prosperity of a friend, but in the time of trouble will be against him. |

|
| Приятель допомагає другові у трудах його заради утроби, а у випадку війни візьметься за щит. | There is a companion, which helpeth his friend for the belly, and taketh up the buckler against the enemy. |

|
| Не забувай друга у душі твоїй і не забувай його у маєтку твоєму. | Forget not thy friend in thy mind, and be not unmindful of him in thy riches. |
|

|
| Усякий радник хвалить свою пораду, але хтось радить на свою користь; | Every counsellor extolleth counsel; but there is some that counselleth for himself. |

|
| від радника охороняй душу твою і наперед довідайся, що йому потрібно; бо, може бути, він буде радити для самого себе; | Beware of a counsellor, and know before what need he hath; for he will counsel for himself; lest he cast the lot upon thee, |
|

|
| може бути, він кине на тебе жереб і скаже тобі: «шлях твій добрий»; а сам стане навпроти тебе, щоб подивитися, що трапиться з тобою. | and say unto thee, Thy way is good: and afterward he stand on the other side, to see what shall befall thee. |
|

|
| Не радься з недоброзичливцем твоїм і від заздрісників твоїх приховуй наміри. | Consult not with one that suspecteth thee: and hide thy counsel from such as envy thee. |
|

|
| Не радься з жінкою про суперницю її і з боязким — про війну, з продавцем — про обмін, з покупцем — про продаж, із заздрим — про подяку, | Neither consult with a woman touching her of whom she is jealous; neither with a coward in matters of war; nor with a merchant concerning exchange; nor with a buyer of selling; nor with an envious man of thankfulness; nor with an unmerciful man touching kindness; nor with the slothful for any work; nor with an hireling for a year of finishing work; nor with an idle servant of much business: hearken not unto these in any matter of counsel. |

| з немилосердним — про благодійність, з лінивим — про усяку справу, | But be continually with a godly man, whom thou knowest to keep the commandments of the Lord, whose mind is according to thy mind, and will sorrow with thee, if thou shalt miscarry. |

| з річним найманцем — про закінчення роботи, з лінивим рабом — про велику роботу: | And let the counsel of thine own heart stand: for there is no man more faithful unto thee than it; |

| не покладайся на таких ні при якій нараді, | for a man's mind is sometime wont to tell him more than seven watchmen, that sit above in an high tower. |

|
| але звертайся завжди тільки до мужа благочестивого, про якого дізнаєшся, що він дотримується заповідей Господніх, | And above all this pray to the most High, that he will direct thy way in truth. |

|
| який своєю душею — до душі тобі й, у випадку падіння твого, буде сумувати разом з тобою. | Let reason go before every enterprize, and counsel before every action. |
|

|
| Тримайся поради серця твого, бо немає нікого для тебе вірнішого за нього; | The countenance is a sign of changing of the heart. |
|

|
| душа людини іноді більше скаже, ніж сім спостерігачів, які сидять на високому місці для спостереження. | Four manners of things appear: good and evil, life and death: but the tongue ruleth over them continually. |

|
| Але при всьому цьому молися Всевишньому, щоб Він управив шлях твій в істині. | There is one that is wise and teacheth many, and yet is unprofitable to himself. |
|

|
| Початок усякої справи — розмірковування, а раніше за усяку дію — рада. | There is one that sheweth wisdom in words, and is hated: he shall be destitute of all food. |
|

|
| Виявлення сердечної зміни — лице. Чотири стани виявляються на ньому: добро і зло, життя і смерть, а панує завжди язик. | For grace is not given him from the Lord; because he is deprived of all wisdom. |
|

|
| Якась людина майстерна і багатьох вчить, а для своєї душі некорисна. | Another is wise to himself; and the fruits of understanding are commendable in his mouth. |

|
| Інший мудрує у промовах, а буває ненависний, — такий залишиться без усякої споживи; | A wise man instructeth his people; and the fruits of his understanding fail not. |

|
| бо не дана йому від Господа благодать, і він позбавлений усякої мудрости. | A wise man shall be filled with blessing; and all they that see him shall count him happy. |
|

|
| Хтось мудрий для душі своєї, і плоди знання на вустах його правильні. | The days of the life of man may be numbered; but the days of Israel are innumerable. |

|
| Мудрий муж повчає народ свій, і плоди знання його правильні. | A wise man shall inherit glory among his people, and his name shall be perpetual. |
|

|
| Мудрий муж буде багатим на благословення, і всі, що бачать його, будуть називати його блаженним. | My son, prove thy soul in thy life, and see what is evil for it, and give not that unto it. |
|

|
| Життя людини визначається кількістю днів, а дні Ізраїля незліченні. | For all things are not profitable for all men, neither hath every soul pleasure in every thing. |
|

|
| Мудрий придбає довіру у свого народу, й ім’я його буде жити повік. | Be not insatiable in any dainty thing, nor too greedy upon meats: |

|
| Сину мій! протягом життя випробовуй твою душу і спостерігай, що для неї шкідливо, і не давай їй того; | for excess of meats bringeth sickness, and surfeiting will turn into choler. |
|

|
| бо не все корисно для усіх, і не усяка душа до всього схильна. | By surfeiting have many perished; but he that taketh heed prolongeth his life. |
|

|
|
| Не пересичуйся всякими солодощами і не кидайся на різні страви, | |
|
33
|
|
| бо від переїдання буває хвороба, і пересичення доводить до холери; | |
|
34
|
|
| від пересичення багато хто помер, а стриманий додасть собі життя. |
