Діти, послухайте мене, батька, і чиніть так, щоб вам спастися,
|
Hear me your father, O children, and do thereafter, that ye may be safe.
|

|
бо Господь підняв батька над дітьми й утвердив суд матері над синами.
|
For the Lord hath given the father honour over the children, and hath confirmed the authority of the mother over the sons.
|
|

|
|
Хто шанує батька, той очиститься від гріхів,
|
Whoso honoureth his father maketh an atonement for his sins:
|
|

|

|
|
і хто поважає матір свою — як той, хто знаходить скарб.
|
and he that honoureth his mother is as one that layeth up treasure.
|
|

|

|
|
Хто поважає батька, той буде мати радість від дітей своїх і у день молитви своєї буде почутий.
|
Whoso honoureth his father shall have joy of his own children; and when he maketh his prayer, he shall be heard.
|
|

|
|
Хто поважає батька, буде довгоденствувати, і слухняний Господу заспокоїть матір свою.
|
He that honoureth his father shall have a long life; and he that is obedient unto the Lord shall be a comfort to his mother,
|
|

|
|
Хто боїться Господа, той вшанує батька і, як владикам, послужить тим, що народили його.
|
and will do service unto his parents, as to his masters.
|
|

|
|
Ділом і словом шануй батька твого і матір, щоб прийшло на тебе благословення від них,
|
Honour thy father and mother both in word and deed, that a blessing may come upon thee from them.
|
|

|
|
бо благословення батька утверджує доми дітей, а клятва матері руйнує дощенту.
|
For the blessing of the father establisheth the houses of children; but the curse of the mother rooteth out foundations.
|
|

|
|
Не шукай слави у нечесті батька твого, бо не слава тобі нечестя батька.
|
Glory not in the dishonour of thy father; for thy father's dishonour is no glory unto thee.
|
|

|
|
Слава людини — від чести батька її, і ганьба дітям — мати у неславі.
|
For the glory of a man is from the honour of his father; and a mother in dishonour is a reproach to the children.
|
|

|
|
Сину! прийми батька твого в старості його і не засмучуй його в житті його.
|
My son, help thy father in his age, and grieve him not as long as he liveth.
|
|
13
|

|
|
Хоча б він і збіднів розумом, май поблажливість і не нехтуй його у повноті сили твоєї,
|
And if his understanding fail, have patience with him; and despise him not when thou art in thy full strength.
|
|
14
|

|
|
бо милосердя до батька не забуте; незважаючи на гріхи твої, добробут твій примножиться.
|
For the relieving of thy father shall not be forgotten: and instead of sins it shall be added to build thee up.
|
|

|

|
|
У день скорботи твоєї згадається про тебе: як лід від теплоти, розв’яжуться гріхи твої.
|
In the day of thine affliction it shall be remembered; thy sins also shall melt away, as the ice in the fair warm weather.
|
|

|
|
Хто залишає батька, той — те саме, що богохульник, і проклятий від Господа той, хто дратує матір свою.
|
He that forsaketh his father is as a blasphemer; and he that angereth his mother is cursed of God.
|
|

|
|
Сину мій! веди діла твої з лагідністю, і буде любити тебе богоугодна людина.
|
My son, go on with thy business in meekness; so shalt thou be beloved of him that is approved.
|
|

|
|
Скільки ти великий, стільки смиряйся, і знайдеш благодать у Господа.
|
The greater thou art, the more humble thyself, and thou shalt find favour before the Lord.
|
|
19
|
20
|
|
Багато високих і славних, але таємниці відкриваються смиренним,
|
For the power of the Lord is great, and he is honoured of the lowly.
|
|
20
|
21
|
|
бо велика могутність Господа, і Він смиренними прославляється.
|
Seek not out the things that are too hard for thee, neither search the things that are above thy strength.
|
|

|
22
|
|
Понад міру важкого для себе не шукай, і що понад сили твої, того не випробовуй.
|
But what is commanded thee, think thereupon with reverence; for it is not needful for thee to see with thine eyes the things that are in secret.
|
|

|
|
Що заповідано тобі, про те розмірковуй; бо не потрібно тобі те, що приховано.
|
Be not curious in unnecessary matters; for more things are shewed unto thee than men understand.
|
|

|
|
При багатьох заняттях твоїх, про зайве не піклуйся: тобі відкрито дуже багато з людського знання;
|
For many are deceived by their own vain opinion; and an evil suspicion hath overthrown their judgment.
|
|

|
|
тому що багатьох ввели в оману їх припущення, і лукаві мрії похитнули розум їх.
|
A stubborn heart shall fare evil at the last; and he that loveth danger shall perish therein.
|
|
25
|
27
|
|
Хто любить небезпеку, той впаде у неї;
|
An obstinate heart shall be laden with sorrows; and the wicked man shall heap sin upon sin.
|
|

|
28
|
|
вперте серце напослідок потерпить зло:
|
In the punishment of the proud there is no remedy; for the plant of wickedness hath taken root in him.
|
|
27
|
29
|
|
вперте серце буде обтяжене скорботами, і грішник прикладе гріхи до гріхів.
|
The heart of the prudent will understand a parable; and an attentive ear is the desire of a wise man.
|
|
28
|
30
|
|
Випробування не служать лікуванням для гордого, тому що зла рослина укорінилася у ньому.
|
Water will quench a flaming fire; and alms maketh an atonement for sins.
|
|

|
31
|
|
Серце розумного обміркує притчу, й уважне вухо є бажання мудрого.
|
And he that requiteth good turns is mindful of that which may come hereafter; and when he falleth, he shall find a stay.
|
|
30
|
|
|
Вода погасить полум’я вогню, і милостиня очистить гріхи.
|
|
|
31
|
|
|
Хто відплачує за благодіяння, той помишляє про майбутнє і під час падіння знайде опору.
