Do no evil, so shall no harm come unto thee.

Depart from the unjust, and iniquity shall turn away from thee.

Сину мій! не сій на борознах неправди, і не будеш у сім разів більше пожинати з них.

My son, sow not upon the furrows of unrighteousness, and thou shalt not reap them sevenfold.

|
Не проси у Господа влади, й у царя — почесного місця.
|
Seek not of the Lord preeminence, neither of the king the seat of honour.
|

|
|
Не виправдовуй себе перед Господом, і не мудруй перед царем.
|
Justify not thyself before the Lord; and boast not of thy wisdom before the king.
|

|
Не домагайся стати суддею, щоб не виявитися тобі неспроможним сокрушити неправду, щоб не убоятися коли-небудь лиця сильного і не покласти тіні на правоту твою.
|
Seek not to be judge, being not able to take away iniquity; lest at any time thou fear the person of the mighty, and lay a stumblingblock in the way of thy uprightness.

Не гріши проти міської громади, і не опускай себе перед народом.
|
Offend not against the multitude of a city, and then thou shalt not cast thyself down among the people.
|

|
Не додавай гріха до гріха, бо і за один не залишишся непокараним.
|
Bind not one sin upon another; for in one thou shalt not be unpunished.
|

|
Не говори: «Він спогляне на безліч дарів моїх, і, коли я принесу їх Богу Вишньому, Він прийме».
|
Say not, God will look upon the multitude of my oblations, and when I offer to the most high God, he will accept it.
|

|
Не будь слабкодухим у молитві твоїй і не нехтуй подавати милостиню.
|
Be not fainthearted when thou makest thy prayer, and neglect not to give alms.
|

|
Не насміхайся над людиною, яка знаходиться у тузі душевній її; бо є Той, Хто смиряє і підносить.
|
Laugh no man to scorn in the bitterness of his soul: for there is one which humbleth and exalteth.
|

|
Не вигадуй неправди на брата твого, і не роби того самого проти друга.
|
Devise not a lie against thy brother; neither do the like to thy friend.
|
|

|
|
Не бажай говорити яку б то не було неправду; бо повторення її не послужить до блага.
|
Use not to make any manner of lie: for the custom thereof is not good.
|
|

|
|
Перед зібранням старших не будь багатослівним, і не повторюй слова у проханні твоєму.
|
Use not many words in a multitude of elders, and make not much babbling when thou prayest.
|

|
|
Не відвертайся від важкої роботи і від землеробства, яке встановлене від Вишнього.
|
Hate not laborious work, neither husbandry, which the most High hath ordained.
|
|

|
Не приєднуйся до безлічі грішників.
|
Number not thyself among the multitude of sinners, but remember that wrath will not tarry long.
|

|
Глибоко смири душу твою.
|
Humble thy soul greatly: for the vengeance of the ungodly is fire and worms.
|
|

|
Пам’ятай, що гнів не забариться,
|
Change not a friend for any good by no means; neither a faithful brother for the gold of Suphir.
|
|

|
що покарання нечестивому — вогонь і черва.
|
Forego not a wise and good woman: for her grace is above gold.
|

|
Не міняй друга на скарб, і брата єдинокровного — на золото офирське.
|
Whereas thy servant worketh truly, entreat him not evil, nor the hireling that bestoweth himself wholly for thee.

|
Не залишай розумної і доброї дружини, бо достоїнство її коштовніше за золото.
|
Let thy soul love a good servant, and defraud him not of liberty.
|
|

|
|
Не кривдь раба, який трудиться старанно, ні найманця, відданого тобі душею.
|
Hast thou cattle? have an eye to them: and if they be for thy profit, keep them with thee.
|
|

|
|
Розумного раба нехай любить душа твоя, і не відмов йому у свободі.
|
Hast thou children? instruct them, and bow down their neck from their youth.
|
|

|
|
Є у тебе худоба? спостерігай за нею, і якщо вона корисна тобі, нехай залишається у тебе.
|
Hast thou daughters? have a care of their body, and shew not thyself cheerful toward them.
|
|

|
|
Є у тебе сини? навчай їх, і з юности нагинай шию їх.
|
Marry thy daughter, and so shalt thou have performed a weighty matter: but give her to a man of understanding.
|

|
|
Є у тебе дочки? май піклування про тіло їх, і не показуй їм веселого лиця твого.
|
Hast thou a wife after thy mind? forsake her not.
|
|

|
|
Видай дочку заміж, і зробиш велику справу, і подаруй її чоловіку розумному.
|
Honour thy father with thy whole heart, and forget not the sorrows of thy mother.
|
|

|
|
Є у тебе дружина до душі? не відганяй її.
|
Remember that thou wast begotten of them; and how canst thou recompense them the things that they have done for thee?

|

|
Усім серцем шануй батька твого і не забувай породильних болістей матері твоєї.
|
Fear the Lord with all thy soul, and reverence his priests.
|
|

|
|
Пам’ятай, що ти народжений від них: і що можеш ти віддати їм, як вони тобі?
|
Love him that made thee with all thy strength, and forsake not his ministers.
|
|

|
|
Усією душею твоєю благоговій перед Господом і поважай священиків Його.
|
Fear the Lord, and honour the priest: and give him his portion, as it is commanded thee: the firstfruits, and the trespass offering, and the gift of the shoulders, and the sacrifice of sanctification, and the firstfruits of the holy things.

Усією силою люби Творця твого, і не залишай служителів Його.
|
And stretch thine hand unto the poor, that thy blessing may be perfected.
|

|
Бійся Господа, і шануй священика, і давай йому частину, як заповідано тобі:
|
A gift hath grace in the sight of every man living; and for the dead detain it not.
|
|

|
|
початки, і за гріх, і пожертву пліч, і жертву освячення, і початки святих.
|
Fail not to be with them that weep, and mourn with them that mourn.
|
|

|
|
І до бідного простягай руку твою, щоб благословення твоє було довершене.
|
Be not slow to visit the sick: for that shall make thee to be beloved.
|
|

|
|
Милість даяння нехай буде до всякого, хто живе, але і померлого не позбавляй милости.
|
Whatsoever thou takest in hand, remember the end, and thou shalt never do amiss.
|
|

|
|
Не віддаляйся від тих, що плачуть, і з тими, хто сумує, сумуй.
|
|
|

|
|
|
Не лінуйся відвідувати хворого, бо за це ти будеш улюбленим.
|
|
|

|
|
|
У всіх ділах твоїх пам’ятай про кінець твій, і повік не згрішиш.
