| Багато хто грішив заради маловажливих речей, і той, хто шукає багатства, відвертає очі. | Many have sinned for a small matter; and he that seeketh for abundance will turn his eyes away. |

| Посередині скріплень каменів вбивається цвях: так посередині продажу і купівлі входить гріх. | As a nail sticketh fast between the joinings of the stones; so doth sin stick close between buying and selling. |

| Якщо хто не утримується старанно у страху Господньому, то швидко зруйнується дім його. | Unless a man hold himself diligently in the fear of the Lord, his house shall soon be overthrown. |

| При трясінні решета залишається сміття: так нечистота людини — при розмірковуванні її. | As when one sifteth with a sieve, the refuse remaineth; so the filth of man in his talk. |

|
| Глиняний посуд випробовується у печі, а випробовування людини — у розмові її. | The furnace proveth the potter's vessels; so the trial of man is in his reasoning. |

|
| Догляд за деревом виявляється у плоді його: так у слові — помисли серця людського. | The fruit declareth if the tree have been dressed; so is the utterance of a conceit in the heart of man. |

|
| Раніше бесіди не хвали людину, тому що вона є випробовуванням людей. | Praise no man before thou hearest him speak; for this is the trial of men. |

|
| Якщо ти ретельно будеш шукати правду, то знайдеш її й одягнешся нею, як подиром слави. | If thou followest righteousness, thou shalt obtain her, and put her on, as a glorious long robe. |

|
| Птахи злітаються до подібних собі, й істина навертається до тих, які вправляються у ній. | The birds will resort unto their like; so will truth return unto them that practise in her. |

|
| Як лев підстерігає здобич, так і гріхи — тих, що чинять неправду. | As the lion lieth in wait for the prey; so sin for them that work iniquity. |

|
| Бесіда благочестивого — завжди мудрість, а безумний змінюється, як місяць. | The discourse of a godly man is always with wisdom; but a fool changeth as the moon. |

| Серед нерозумних не гай часу, а проводь його постійно серед розсудливих. | If thou be among the indiscreet, observe the time; but be continually among men of understanding. |

| Бесіда дурнів огидна, і сміх їх — у забаві гріхом. | The discourse of fools is irksome, and their sport is the wantonness of sin. |

| Марнослів’я тих, хто багато клянеться, підніме сторчма волосся, а суперечка їх заткне вуха. | The talk of him that sweareth much maketh the hair stand upright; and their brawls make one stop his ears. |

|
| Сварка гордовитих — кровопролиття, і лайка їх нестерпна для слуху. | The strife of the proud is bloodshedding, and their revilings are grievous to the ear. |
|

| Той, хто відкриває таємниці, втрачає довіру і не знайде друга до душі собі. | Whoso discovereth secrets loseth his credit; and shall never find friend to his mind. |

|
| Люби друга і будь вірний йому; | Love thy friend, and be faithful unto him: but if thou betrayest his secrets, follow no more after him. |
|

|
| а якщо відкриєш таємниці його, не женися більше за ним: | For as a man hath destroyed his enemy; so hast thou lost the love of thy neighbour. |

|
| бо як людина убиває свого ворога, так ти убив дружбу ближнього; | As one that letteth a bird go out of his hand, so hast thou let thy neighbour go, and shalt not get him again. |
|

| і як ти випустив би з рук своїх птаха, так ти упустив друга і не впіймаєш його; | Follow after him no more, for he is too far off; he is as a roe escaped out of the snare. |

| не женися за ним, бо він далеко пішов і втік, як сарна з сіті. | As for a wound, it may be bound up; and after reviling there may be reconcilement: but he that betrayeth secrets is without hope. |

| Рану можна перев’язати, і після сварки можливе примирення; | He that winketh with the eyes worketh evil: and he that knoweth him will depart from him. |

| але хто відкрив таємниці, той утратив надію на примирення. | When thou art present, he will speak sweetly, and will admire thy words: but at the last he will writhe his mouth, and slander thy sayings. |

| Хто мигає оком, той будує підступи, і ніхто не втримає його від того; | I have hated many things, but nothing like him; for the Lord will hate him. |

| перед очима твоїми він буде говорити солодко і буде дивуватися словам твоїм, | Whoso casteth a stone on high casteth it on his own head; and a deceitful stroke shall make wounds. |

|
| а опісля перекрутить вуста свої і у словах твоїх відкриє спокусу; | Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: and he that setteth a trap shall be taken therein. |

|
| багато чого я ненавиджу, але не стільки, як його; і Господь зненавидить його. | He that worketh mischief, it shall fall upon him, and he shall not know whence it cometh. |
|

|
| Хто кидає камінь угору, кидає його на свою голову, і підступний удар розділить рани. | Mockery and reproach are from the proud; but vengeance, as a lion, shall lie in wait for him. |
|

|
| Хто риє яму, сам упаде у неї, і хто ставить сіть, сам буде уловлений нею. | They that rejoice at the fall of the righteous shall be taken in the snare; and anguish shall consume them before they die. |

|
| Хто робить зло, на того обернеться воно, і він не довідається, звідки воно прийшло до нього; | Malice and wrath, even these are abominations; and the sinful man shall have them both. |

| посміяння і ганьба від гордих і помста, як лев, підстереже його. | |
|

|
|
| Уловлені будуть сіткою ті, що радіють від падіння благочестивих, і скорбота виснажить їх раніше смерти їх. | |
|

|
|
| Злість і гнів — теж мерзота, і вони будуть володіти чоловіком грішним. |
