| Працівник, схильний до пияцтва, не стане багатим, і той, хто ні у що ставить мале, мало-помалу прийде у занепад. | A labouring man that is given to drunkenness shall not be rich: and he that contemneth small things shall fall by little and little. |

| Вино і жінки розбестять розумних, а той, хто зв’язується з блудницями, зробиться ще нахабнішим; | Wine and women will make men of understanding to fall away: and he that cleaveth to harlots will become impudent. |

| гниль і черва успадкують його, і зухвала душа знищиться. | Moths and worms shall have him to heritage, and a bold man shall be taken away. |

| Хто швидко довіряє, той легковажний, і той, хто грішить, грішить проти душі своєї. | He that is hasty to give credit is light-minded; and he that sinneth shall offend against his own soul. |

| Відданий серцем задоволенням буде осуджений, а той, хто противиться похоті, увінчає життя своє. | Whoso taketh pleasure in wickedness shall be condemned: |

| Той, хто приборкує язик, буде жити мирно, і хто ненавидить балакучість, зменшить зло. | but he that hateth babbling hath less of evil. |

| Ніколи не повторюй слова, і нічого ти не втратиш. | Rehearse not unto another that which is told unto thee, and thou shalt fare never the worse. |

| Ні другові ні недругові не розповідай і, якщо це тобі не гріх, не відкривай; | Whether it be to friend or foe, talk not of other men's lives; and if thou canst not without offence, reveal them not. |

| бо він вислухає тебе, і буде остерігатися тебе, і з часом зненавидить тебе. | For he heard and observed thee, and when time cometh he will hate thee. |

| Вислухав ти слово, нехай помре воно з тобою: не бійся, не розірве воно тебе. | If thou hast heard a word, let it die with thee; and be bold, it will not burst thee. |

| Дурний від слова терпить таку ж муку, як та, що народжує, — від немовляти. | A fool travaileth with a word, as a woman in labour of a child. |

| Що стріла, устромлена у стегно, те слово у серці дурного. | As an arrow that sticketh in a man's thigh, so is a word within a fool's belly. |

| Розпитай друга твого, можливо, не зробив він того; і якщо зробив, то нехай надалі не робить. | Admonish a friend, it may be he hath not done it: and if he have done it, that he do it no more. |

| Розпитай друга, можливо, не говорив він того; і якщо сказав, те нехай не повторить того. | Admonish thy friend, it may be he hath not said it: and if he have, that he speak it not again. |

| Розпитай друга, бо часто буває наклеп. | Admonish a friend: for many times it is a slander, and believe not every tale. |

| Не всякому слову вір. | There is one that slippeth in his speech, but not from his heart; and who is he that hath not offended with his tongue? |

| Хтось згрішає словом, але не від душі; і хто не згрішав язиком своїм? | Admonish thy neighbour before thou threaten him; and give place to the law of the most High. |

| Розпитай ближнього твого перше, ніж погрожувати йому, і дай місце закону Всевишнього. Усяка мудрість — страх Господній, і в усякій мудрості — виконання закону. | |

| І не є мудрість — знання лихого. І немає розуму, де рада грішників. | |
|

| Є лукавство, і це мерзота; і є нерозумний, убогий мудрістю. | The fear of the Lord is all wisdom; and in all wisdom is the performance of the law. |

| Краще убогий знанням, але богобоязкий, ніж багатий знанням — і такий, що переступає закон. | |

| Є хитрість вишукана, але вона беззаконна, і є спотворюючий суд, щоб винести вирок. | The knowledge of wickedness is not wisdom, neither at any time the counsel of sinners prudence. |

| Є лукавий, який ходить зігнувшись, сумуючи, але всередині він повен підступу. | There is a wickedness, and the same an abomination; and there is a fool wanting in wisdom. |

| Він поник лицем і прикидається глухим, але він випередить тебе там, де і не думаєш. | He that hath small understanding, and feareth God, is better than one that hath much wisdom, and transgresseth the law of the most High. |

| І якщо нестача сили перешкодить йому зашкодити тобі, то він зробить тобі зло, коли знайде випадок. | There is an exquisite subtilty, and the same is unjust; and there is one that turneth aside to make judgment appear. |

| За виглядом пізнається людина, і за виразом обличчя при зустрічі пізнається розумний. | There is a wicked man that hangeth down his head sadly; but inwardly he is full of deceit, |

| Одяг і вискалювання зубів і хода людини показують властивість її. | casting down his countenance, and making as if he heard not: where he is not known, he will do thee a mischief before thou be aware. |

| Буває викриття, але невчасне, і буває, що хтось мовчить — і він розсудливий. | And if for want of power he be hindered from sinning, yet when he findeth opportunity he will do evil. |
