Хто чинить милість, той дає у борг ближньому, і хто підтримує його своєю рукою, той дотримується заповіді.
|
He that is merciful will lend unto his neighbour; and he that strengtheneth his hand keepeth the commandments.

Давай у борг ближньому під час нестатку його і сам своєчасно повертай ближньому.
|
Lend to thy neighbour in time of his need, and pay thou thy neighbour again in due season.

|
Твердо тримай слово і будь вірний йому — і ти повсякчас знайдеш потрібне для тебе.
|
Keep thy word, and deal faithfully with him, and thou shalt always find the thing that is necessary for thee.

|
Багато хто вважав позичку знахідкою і засмутив тих, які допомогли йому.
|
Many, when a thing was lent them, reckoned it to be found, and put them to trouble that helped them.
|

|
|
Доки не одержить, він буде цілувати руку його і через гроші ближнього смирить голос;
|
Till he hath received, he will kiss a man's hand; and for his neighbour's money he will speak submissively: but when he should repay, he will prolong the time, and return words of grief, and complain of the time.
|

|
|
а у термін віддачі він буде тягнути час і буде відповідати сумно і скаржитися на час.
|
If he prevail, he shall hardly receive the half, and he will count as if he had found it: if not, he hath deprived him of his money, and he hath gotten him an enemy without cause: he payeth him with cursings and railings; and for honour he will pay him disgrace.

Якщо він буде у змозі, то ледь половину принесе — і це поставить йому за знахідку;
|
Many therefore have refused to lend for other men's ill dealing, fearing to be defrauded.
|

а якщо буде не у змозі, то позикодавець позбувся своїх грошей і без причини набув собі ворога у ньому:
|
Yet have thou patience with a man in poor estate, and delay not to shew him mercy.
|

|
він віддасть йому прокляттями і лихослів’ям і замість поваги віддасть нечестям.
|
Help the poor for the commandment's sake, and turn him not away because of his poverty.
|

|
Багато хто через таке лукавство ухиляється від позики, побоюючись дарма потерпіти втрату.
|
Lose thy money for thy brother and thy friend, and let it not rust under a stone to be lost.
|
|

|
Але до бідного ти будь поблажливий і з милостинею йому не барися;
|
Lay up thy treasure according to the commandments of the most High, and it shall bring thee more profit than gold.
|
|

|
заради заповіді допоможи бідному й у нестатку його не відпускай його ні з чим.
|
Shut up alms in thy storehouses: and it shall deliver thee from all affliction.
|
|

|
|
Витрачай срібло для брата і друга і не давай йому заіржавіти під каменем на погибель;
|
It shall fight for thee against thine enemies better than a mighty shield and strong spear.
|
|

|
|
використовуй скарб твій за заповідями Всевишнього, і він принесе тобі більше користи, ніж золото;
|
An honest man is surety for his neighbour: but he that is impudent will forsake him.
|
|

|
|
замкни у коморах твоїх милостиню, і вона позбавить тебе усякого нещастя:
|
Forget not the friendship of thy surety, for he hath given his life for thee.
|
|

|
|
краще за міцний щит і твердий спис вона захистить тебе проти ворога.
|
A sinner will overthrow the good estate of his surety:
|

|
Добра людина поручиться за ближнього, а хто втратив сором, той залишить його.
|
and he that is of an unthankful mind will leave him in danger that delivered him.
|
|

|
|
Не забувай благодіянь поручителя; бо він дав душу свою за тебе.
|
Suretyship hath undone many of good estate, and shaken them as a wave of the sea: mighty men hath it driven from their houses, so that they wandered among strange nations.

|
Грішник зруйнує майно поручителя, і невдячний у душі залишить свого спасителя.
|
A wicked man transgressing the commandments of the Lord shall fall into suretyship: and he that undertaketh and followeth other men's business for gain shall fall into suits.

|
|
Поручництво призвело до розорення багатьох людей з достатком і похитнуло їх, як хвиля морська;
|
Help thy neighbour according to thy power, and beware that thou thyself fall not into the same.
|
|

|
мужів могутніх вигнало з домів, і вони блукали між чужими народами.
|
The chief thing for life is water, and bread, and clothing, and a house to cover shame.
|
|

|
Грішник, який приймає на себе поручництво і шукає користи, впаде у тяжбу.
|
Better is the life of a poor man in a mean cottage, than delicate fare in another man's house.
|
|

|
Допомагай ближньому за силою твоєю і бережися, щоб тобі не впасти у те саме.
|
Be it little or much, hold thee contented,
|
|

|
|
Головна потреба для життя — вода і хліб, і одяг і дім, що прикриває наготу.
|
for it is a miserable life to go from house to house: for where thou art a stranger, thou darest not open thy mouth.
|
|

|
|
Краще життя бідного під дощатою покрівлею, ніж розкішні бенкети у чужих домах.
|
Thou shalt entertain, and feast, and have no thanks: moreover thou shalt hear bitter words:

|
Будь задоволений малим, як і многим.
|
Come, thou stranger, and furnish a table, and feed me of that thou hast ready.
|

|
Лихе життя — блукати з дому у дім, і де оселишся, не посмієш і рота відкрити;
|
Give place, thou stranger, to an honourable man; my brother cometh to be lodged, and I have need of mine house.

будеш подавати їжу і питво без подяки, та й зверх того ще почуєш гірке:
|
These things are grievous to a man of understanding; the upbraiding of houseroom, and reproaching of the lender.
|
|

|
|
«піди сюди, прибулець, приготуй стіл і, якщо є що у тебе, нагодуй мене»;
|
|
|
30
|
|
|
«відійди, прибулець, заради почесної особи: брат прийшов до мене у гості, дім потрібен».
|
|
|

|
|
|
Важкий для людини з почуттям докір за притулок у домі й осудження за послугу.
|
