| Hear these words, all ye nations, hearken, all ye that dwell upon the earth: | Слухайте це, всі народи. Почуйте всі, хто живе на світі, — |

|
| both the sons of mean men, and sons of great men; the rich and poor man together. | І прості, і знані, і багаті, й убогі. |
|

|
| My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall bring forth understanding. | Уста мої промовлятимуть премудрість, і помисли серця мого — розум. |
|

|
| I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my riddle on the harp. | Прихилю вухо моє до притчі і на гуслях пісні відкрию загадку мою. |

|
| Wherefore should I fear in the evil day? the iniquity of my heel shall compass me. | Чого боятися мені в день біди, коли обступлять мене злочинства тих, що доганяють мене? |

|
| They that trust in their strength, and boast themselves in the multitude of their wealth— | Ви, що надієтеся на силу свою та величаєтеся багатством своїм! |

|
| A brother does not redeem, shall a man redeem? he shall not give to God a ransom for himself, | Людина ніколи не викупить брата свого, не дасть Богові викупу за нього. |
|

|
| or the price of the redemption of his soul, though he labour for ever, | Дорога ціна викупу душ їхніх, і не буде того повіки, |
|

|
| and live to the end, so that he should not see corruption. | щоб залишився хтось жити вічно і не зазнав смерти. |

|
| When he shall see wise men dying, the fool and the senseless one shall perish together; and they shall leave their wealth to strangers. | Кожен бачить, що й розумні помирають так само, як і нерозумні та безумні гинуть, і багатства свої залишають іншим. |
|

|
| And their sepulchres are their houses for ever, even their tabernacles to all generations: they have called their lands after their own names. | Вони думають, що доми їхні вічні і оселі їхні з роду в рід, землі свої вони називають своїми іменами. |
|

| And man being in honour, understands not: he is compared to the senseless cattle, and is like to them. | І людина, будучи в честі, не розуміє, що вона зрівнялася з тваринами і уподібнюється їм. |
|

| This their way is an offence to them: yet afterwards men will commend their sayings. Pause. | Цей шлях їхній — спокуса їм, хоч після цього устами своїми будуть хвалити його. |
|

|
| They have laid them as sheep in Hades; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning, and their help shall fail in Hades from their glory. | Як овець, поглине їх безодня; смерть буде пасти їх, і ранком праведні будуть володіти ними; сила покине їх, і могила буде житлом їхнім. |

| But God shall deliver my soul from the power of Hades, when he shall receive me. Pause. | Але Господь спасе душу мою від пекла, коли прийме мене. |

| Fear not when a man is enriched, and when the glory of his house is increased. | Не бійся, коли розбагатіє людина, коли примножиться слава дому її. |
|

|
| For he shall take nothing when he dies; neither shall his glory descend with him. | Бо коли помре, то не візьме з собою нічого, не піде за нею слава її. |
|

|
| For his soul shall be blessed in his life: he shall give thanks to thee when thou dost well to him. | Хоч за життя вона ублажає душу свою, і славлять її за те, що догоджає собі, |
|

|
| Yet he shall go in to the generation of his fathers; he shall never see light. | але піде до роду батьків своїх, які ніколи не побачать світла. |

|
| Man that is in honour, understands not: he is compared to the senseless cattle, and is like them. | Так людина, будучи в честі, не розуміє, що вона зрівнялася з тваринами і уподібнюється їм. |
